In the list below, you’ll find a mix of summer AI programs in both in-person and online formats. These programs are dedicated to AI and generally geared toward teens. If you don’t have an in-person program near you, online is a great option. In-Person Camps There are a number of companies with a national reach that offer AI summer camps around the country. iD Tech, which kicked off AI summer camps a few years ago, has now expanded to offer a variety of programs. Other companies offering AI camps include Lavner Education, the Coder School and iCode School. But you don’t have to confine (限制) your search to this list alone. There may be organizations in your community that offer AI camps. You can search for programs in your community to find even more. Online-Only The Coding School offers a 5-week national research program for rising grades 9 — 12 (and college freshmen) to conduct research in AI. Mentors (导师) provide personal feedback to help students conduct research and develop college-level projects and presentations. MehtA + offers two summer camps in AI/ Machine Learning — an intensive 6-week machine learning research boot camp for grades 8 — 12. In the camp, students will be able to work closely with top university professors to complete an AI research project in the sciences or the humanities. Veritas AI is an AI program for high school students. I can see faces, but the individual details, such as the distance between the eyes or the shape of the nose, are fuzzy. As a result, recognizing faces — something so instant and unconscious for most — is a major challenge. Over the years I developed my own ways of dealing with the problem. To distinguish people, I relied on cues — like the way a person walks and a habitual lunch spot. There were many embarrassing moments as I pursued my career. But overall, I was managing. Then, I often worked at home. As interactions moved online, suddenly everyone became a stranger. For my peace of mind, I needed to get to the bottom of why I see the world so differently from most people. Through a combination of luck and privilege, I connected with a specialist who gave me an official diagnosis (诊断). Even though I had already essentially diagnosed myself, it was a relief to have a professional put a formal name to it. More importantly, I realized I had to face reality. Now if I’m going to an event where I’m expected to know people, I send an e-mail explaining that if I ignore them, it won’t be intentional. I’ve found that people are less likely to be offended when they know beforehand. But sometimes I feel like something out of a science-fiction plot. A recent presentation titled You Don’t Belong Here was intended to show how some environments can be exclusionary (排斥的) and what can be done to address that. As the presenters alternated between acting out scenes and commenting on them, I left feeling exactly as the title said. It would have been a great help if they had explained at the beginning that they were going to switch roles. People with disabilities exist, and we need our co-workers to think broadly about accessibility and inclusion. Let’s create an environment where we all feel like we belong. 4. What is wrong with the author? A. She can’t tell faces apart. B. She can’t see faces instantly. C. She lacks facial expressions. D. She always keeps a straight face. 5. What made the author decide to seek professional help? A. Her wrong self-diagnosis. B. The rise in online interactions. C. A specialist’s recommendation. D. The chance of a promotion. 6. Which is mentioned as the author’s way of handling face blindness? A. Sending others an e-mail ahead of time. B. Learning the style people like to wear. C. Meeting more friends in regular places. D. Drawing co-workers’ faces in a notebook. 7. What can we infer from paragraph 5? A. The author is bad at getting along with others. B. Science fiction is an inspiration for the author. C. The author loses a sense of belonging in some environments. D. Having face blindness makes the author stand out in public. A 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段中“I can see faces, but the individual details, such as the distance between the eyes or the shape of the nose, are fuzzy. (我能看到脸,但个人细节,如眼睛之间的距离或鼻子的形状,是模糊的。)”可知,作者有脸盲症,她无法辨别人们的脸。故选A。 根据第三段中“As interactions moved online, suddenly everyone became a stranger. For my peace of mind, I needed to get to the bottom of why I see the world so differently from most people. Through a combination of luck and privilege, I connected with a specialist who gave me an official diagnosis (诊断). (随着社交互动转移到线上,突然间,每个人都成了陌生人。为了让自己内心安宁,我必须弄清楚为何我看待世界的角度与大多数人如此不同。凭借运气与自身具备的优越条件,我联系到了一位专家,他给我做出了正式诊断。)”可知,使作者决定向专家寻求帮助的是网上交流的兴起。故选B。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Now if I’m going to an event where I’m expected to know people, I send an e-mail explaining that if I ignore them, it won’t be intentional. (现在,如果我要去参加一个我应该认识的人的活动,我会发一封电子邮件解释说,如果我忽略了他们,那不是故意的。)”可知,作者对待自己脸盲症的一个方法是提前给别人发一封关于自己问题的电子邮件说明情况,故选A。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“A recent presentation titled You Don’t Belong Here was intended to show how some environments can be exclusionary (排斥的) and what can be done to address that. As the presenters alternated between acting out scenes and commenting on them, I left feeling exactly as the title said. (最近一场题为《你不属于这里》的演讲,旨在揭示某些环境是如何具有排斥性的,以及可以采取哪些措施来解决这一问题。当演讲者交替进行场景演绎与评论时,我离开时的感受正如演讲标题所言。)”可推知,作者在某些环境中会失去归属感。故选C。 C Tristan Yates has no doubt about her first memory. “I was about three and a half,” she remembers,“ just running around with my twin sister trying to pick up Easter eggs.” But she has zero memories before that, which is typical. Is that because we don’t make memories when we’ re babies, or is there something else responsible? Now, a new research published by Yates and her colleagues in the journal Science suggests babies are able to form memories, even if they become accessible later in life. To shed light on the issue, one of the best ways is to look deep in the brain with an fMRI machine, which requires a person to remain still for an extended period of time, but babies don’t understand instructions and have short attention spans. Therefore, the team had to adapt and come up with diverse tricks to keep them happy and engaged. Here’s how this experiment went down. The babies viewed an image they have never seen before for two seconds, like a canyon or a dog toy. About a minute later, researchers showed them one image they had just seen alongside a different image from the same category. That could be the canyon, say, alongside a waterfall. If the baby remembered seeing the canyon earlier, the child would look longer at the canyon than at the waterfall. This procedure gave the researchers an indication as to which images the baby remembered, and which they forgot. Meanwhile, the fMRI was shooting pictures of the baby’s brain, including its hippocampus (海马体), a region important for memory. The scans revealed that starting at about 12 months of age, the more activity there was in the baby’s hippocampus when seeing an image for the first time, the more likely they were to remember that image later. “What we can conclude is that the hippocampus can encode (编码) individual memories, even in human infants. It’s evidence that a memory has formed in the baby’s hippocampus.” says Yates. These results allow scientists to put the time stamp of our first memory a little bit earlier than when we thought possible. 8. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph? A. By quotation an article. B. By defining a concept. C. By giving an example. D. By providing a finding. 9. What did researchers do to test babies’ memory? A. They asked babies to describe images. B. They scanned babies’ brains during sleep. C. They presented toys to babies repeatedly. D. They compared babies’ image-viewing time. 10. What does the research show? A. babies prefer seeing new images. B. Active brains lead to good memory. C. Hippocampus functions after age 3. D. Memory loss occurs more over time. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Mystery of Infant Memories. B. Unlocking the Brain’s Secrets. C. The Science of Early Childhood. D. fMRI: A Window into Infant Mind 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第一段中的“Tristan Yates has no doubt about her first memory. “I was about three and a half,” she remembers, “just running around with my twin sister trying to pick up Easter eggs.”(特里斯坦·耶茨对自己的第一个记忆深信不疑。“我大概三岁半的时候,”她回忆道,“只是和双胞胎妹妹到处跑,想捡复活节彩蛋。”)”可知,作者通过举特里斯坦·耶茨的例子引出话题。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“If the baby remembered seeing the canyon earlier, the child would look longer at the canyon than at the waterfall. This procedure gave the researchers an indication as to which images the baby remembered, and which they forgot.(如果婴儿记得之前见过峡谷,那么他看峡谷的时间会比看瀑布的时间长。这个过程让研究人员知道婴儿记得哪些图像,忘记了哪些。)”可知,研究人员通过比较婴儿观看图像的时间来测试他们的记忆。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The scans revealed that starting at about 12 months of age, the more activity there was in the baby’s hippocampus when seeing an image for the first time, the more likely they were to remember that image later.(扫描显示,从大约12个月大开始,婴儿第一次看到图像时海马体的活动越活跃,他们后来就越有可能记住该图像。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段中的“Now, a new research published by Yates and her colleagues in the journal Science suggests babies are able to form memories, even if they become accessible later in life.(现在,耶茨和她的同事在《科学》杂志上发表的一项新研究表明,婴儿能够形成记忆,即使这些记忆在后来的生活中才会被唤起。)” 故选A项。 D A new report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism raises concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) in news production, as the rise of AI tools for news production, coupled with existing struggles to engage audiences, presents a fresh challenge for newsrooms worldwide. The report, based on a survey of nearly 100,000 people across 47 countries, highlights audience anxieties surrounding AI-generated news content and notes this is particularly true for sensitive topics like politics. News organizations are dealing with the rise of Generative AI, with tech giants like Google and startups developing tools that summarize information and potentially divert (转移) traffic from news websites. However, the report reveals a public distrust of AI-generated news, raising questions about its viability and impact on profits. The report also looked at audience perceptions of AI-generated news. A significant part of respondents (调查对象) to the survey expressed discomfort with news primarily produced by AI. This feeling was particularly strong in the UK (63 percent) and the US (52 percent). The report finds that people were more accepting of AI being used behind the scenes to enhance journalistic efficiency. Nic Newman, lead author of the Digital News Report, said, “It was surprising to see the level of suspicion. People broadly had fears about what might happen to content reliability and trust.” The survey also reveals a continuing worry about online misinformation. Concerns rose by 3 percent compared to the previous year, with 59 percent of respondents expressing worry. This anxiety was particularly conspicuous in countries like South Africa (81 percent) and the US (72 percent). The report also highlights the difficulties news organizations face in securing paying subscribers. “The findings show that newsrooms need to build a direct relationship with their audiences while also strategically using the platforms to connect with people who are trickier to reach, like younger audiences,” Newman said. “We see that news influencers have a bigger role on the popular platforms.” 12. How is newsrooms’ current situation? A. Difficult.  B. Distinctive.  C. Promising.  D. Competitive. 13. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. Some disadvantages of AI editors.  B. An analysis of the research results. C. Possible application of AI in news.  D. Respondents’ attitude to AI in news. 14. What does the underlined word “conspicuous” in paragraph 6 mean? A. Doubtful.  B. Similar.  C. Obvious.  D. Limited. 15. What does Nic Newman advise newsrooms to do? A. Employ famous influencers to spread news by AI. B. Encourage more younger people to make use of AI. C. Distinguish accurately true news from disinformation. D. Take advantage of popular platforms to attract audiences. A 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第一段“A new report from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism raises concerns about artificial intelligence (AI) in news production, as the rise of AI tools for news production, coupled with existing struggles to engage audiences, presents a fresh challenge for newsrooms worldwide.(路透社新闻研究所的一份新报告对新闻生产中的人工智能(AI)提出担忧:随着新闻生产AI工具兴起,再加上原本就难以吸引受众的困境,这给全球新闻编辑部带来了新挑战。)” 根据第四段“A significant part of respondents (调查对象) to the survey expressed discomfort with news primarily produced by AI.(很大一部分调查对象对主要由人工智能生成的新闻感到不适。)”以及“The report finds that people were more accepting of AI being used behind the scenes to enhance journalistic efficiency.(报告发现,人们更能接受人工智能在幕后使用,用来提升新闻工作效率。)” 根据第六段“Concerns rose by 3 percent compared to the previous year, with 59 percent of respondents expressing worry.(与去年相比,担忧比例上升了3%,59%的调查对象表示感到担忧。)”以及“This anxiety was particularly conspicuous in countries like South Africa (81 percent) and the US (72 percent).(这种焦虑在南非(81%)和美国(72%)等国家尤其conspicuous。)” 根据最后一段“The findings show that newsrooms need to build a direct relationship with their audiences while also strategically using the platforms to connect with people who are trickier to reach, like younger audiences,(研究结果表明,新闻编辑部需要与受众建立直接联系,同时有策略地利用这些平台去接触更难触达的人群,比如年轻受众,)”以及“We see that news influencers have a bigger role on the popular platforms.(我们发现,资讯博主在各大热门平台上发挥着更大的作用。)” How do you feel about exams? ____16____ On the contrary, is it an experience you enjoy because it’s your time to shine? Every year, many young people sit exams and whether they love or hate them, most of them will face some anxiety before the big day. If you’re anxious about your exams, don’t worry. You’re not alone. ____17____ When the pressure is on to pass that all-important test, take a deep breath and absorb some good advice from people who’ve been through the same experience as you. ____18____ Nutritional therapist Kerry Torrens recommends making breakfast the most important meal of the day. She recommends eating energy-giving oats and eggs. Some research even suggests students who take water into the exam hall may even improve their grades. One thing I know I always need is a good night’s sleep to help me work and think better the next day. ____19____ If you get good sleep your memory is better and that means you can retain the information you have revised. According to Lisa Artis from the Sleep Council, sitting on your bed when you’re cramming is not a good idea because then you associate that place with stress. Revising for exams can also sometimes seem cruel, so it’s good to take breaks and reward yourself with a small treat, like a cake or a quick run around the block. There comes a point when your brain can’t absorb any more information. ____20____ A. However, your brain is free of tiredness. B. Is it the one thing you are frightened of? C. Thus, you’ll also need to know when to stop. D. Is it the only thing that you are really keen on? E. Eating the right food can feed your brain and keep you energetic. F. It might seem like a stressful time for everyone in the same situation. G. And that’s what’s recommended for anyone preparing for their exams. B 17. F 18. E 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“How do you feel about exams?(你对考试有什么看法?)”以及后文“On the contrary, is it an experience you enjoy because it’s your time to shine?(相反,你喜欢这段经历是因为这是你闪耀的时刻吗?)”可知,前后都是问句,所以空处应是问句,且空处提到的事和后文相反,B项“Is it the one thing you are frightened of?(这是你唯一害怕的事吗?)” 【17题详解】 根据前文“If you’re anxious about your exams, don’t worry. You’re not alone.(如果你对考试感到焦虑,别担心。你并不孤单)”可知,对考试感到焦虑是常见的。F项“It might seem like a stressful time for everyone in the same situation.(对于处于相同情况的每个人来说,这似乎都是一个充满压力的时刻)”是对前句的进一步说明,符合文意。故选F项。 【18题详解】 设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Nutritional therapist Kerry Torrens recommends making breakfast the most important meal of the day. She recommends eating energy-giving oats and eggs. Some research even suggests students who take water into the exam hall may even improve their grades.(养治疗师克里·托伦斯建议把早餐作为一天中最重要的一餐。她建议吃能提供能量的燕麦和鸡蛋。一些研究甚至表明,带水进考场的学生甚至可以提高他们的成绩)”可知,本段主要介绍吃正确食物能让你精力充沛,所以E项“Eating the right food can feed your brain and keep you energetic.(吃正确的食物可以滋养你的大脑,让你充满活力)”符合本段主题。故选E项。 【19题详解】 根据前文“One thing I know I always need is a good night’s sleep to help me work and think better the next day.(我知道我总是需要一个好的睡眠来帮助我第二天更好地工作和思考)”可知,好的睡眠有助于思考,G项“And that’s what’s recommended for anyone preparing for their exams.(这也是我们推荐给准备考试的人的方法)”承接上文,其中that指代前文中的a good night’s sleep,符合文意。故选G项。 【20题详解】 设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“According to Lisa Artis from the Sleep Council, sitting on your bed when you’re cramming is not a good idea because then you associate that place with stress. Revising for exams can also sometimes seem cruel, so it’s good to take breaks and reward yourself with a small treat, like a cake or a quick run around the block. There comes a point when your brain can’t absorb any more information.(据睡眠委员会的丽莎·阿蒂斯说,坐在床上死记硬背不是个好主意,因为那样你就会把那个地方和压力联系在一起。 I met Carla in the darkest days of life 15 years ago, when I was in a bad ____21____. B Though I am a female scientist, I have face blindness. C Tristan Yates has no doubt about her first memory. A. How do you feel about exams? ____16____ On the contrary, is it an experience you enjoy because it’s your time to shine?
