Food waste is a pressing global crisis (危机) with serious environmental, social and economic impacts. Roughly one-third of all food produced worldwide — approximately 1.3 billion tons — goes to waste every year, squandering (挥霍) precious resources and worsening climate change and global hunger. This problem exists across the entire food supply chain, from farm fields where unmarketable crops are plowed under, to retail stores that discard expired food, and finally to family dinner tables where leftover meals are thrown away.
Uneaten food in landfills decomposes (分解) without oxygen and releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that is 28 times more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period. Additionally, the production, processing and transportation of food consume huge amounts of water, energy and land; wasting a single kilogram of beef means wasting over 15,000 liters of water used to raise the cow. This inefficiency adds extra pressure to the already strained global ecosystem, accelerating environmental degradation (恶化) and raising food production costs for everyone.
Socially, 828 million people suffer from hunger worldwide, while 1.3 billion tons of food are wasted annually. This stark imbalance highlights the moral failure of a system that allows food to rot (腐烂) while people go hungry. It calls for better food management systems, from reducing overproduction by matching supply to demand, to improving storage facilities in developing countries where lack of refrigeration causes 40% of crop losses.
Fortunately, practical solutions exist. Individuals can plan meals in advance, store food properly and reuse leftovers in creative dishes. Restaurants and supermarkets can donate unsold but safe food to local charities; governments can implement laws to ban food waste and encourage sustainable practices. Working together, we can build a more efficient, equitable and sustainable food system for all.
8. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. How to store food properly. B. The causes of food waste.
C. How to donate food to charities. D. Food waste problems and solutions.
9. Why is food waste harmful to the environment?
A. It increases water pollution. B. It reduces the demand for food.
C. It uses too much land for farming. D. It releases powerful greenhouse gases.
10. What can individuals do to reduce food waste?
A. Plan meals and use leftovers. B. Pass laws to ban food waste.
C. Donate unsold food to charities. D. Build better food distribution systems.
11. How can a school cafeteria practically reduce food waste?
A. Serve larger portions to avoid hunger.
B. Offer a “small plate” option for students.
C. Throw away all unsold food after meals.
D. Stop serving vegetables that are not popular.
D 9. D 10. A 11. B

根据文章第二段“Uneaten food in landfills decomposes (分解) without oxygen and releases methane, a powerful greenhouse gas that is 28 times more effective at trapping heat than carbon dioxide over a 100-year period.(垃圾填埋场中未被食用的食物在无氧条件下分解,释放出甲烷,甲烷是一种强效温室气体,在100年期间其保温效果是二氧化碳的28倍。)”
根据文章最后一段“Individuals can plan meals in advance, store food properly and reuse leftovers in creative dishes.(人们可以提前规划餐食,妥善储存食物,并将剩菜做成创意菜肴加以再利用)”可知,个人可以通过提前计划膳食、妥善储存食物以及利用剩菜来减少浪费。
根据文章第三段中“It calls for better food management systems, from reducing overproduction by matching supply to demand…(这需要建立更完善的粮食管理体系,从通过供需匹配减少过度生产……)”

For some time, “dazi” — a Chinese expression often translated as “partner” or “buddy” — has quietly become a typical social and cultural phenomenon among China’s younger generation.
On a Saturday morning at a hiking trailhead in Beijing’s Mentougou district, a dozen young people greeted (打招呼) each other, having traveled from all over the city. Not having known each other before, they first connected by commenting under a hiking meetup post on social media platform Xiaohongshu and then joined a hiking group.
“Rather than joining into each other’s entire lives, hiking buddies focus on sharing the activity itself, like completing a route together, sharing tools and snacks, and then returning to their own orbits. Each event is just an informal arrangement, just based on a few people being free. Missing one out doesn’t make you less active, as there’s no fixed promise or strict structure,” said Li Zile, administrator of this hiking group.
According to the Beijing Youth Daily, in 2024, discussions around “buddy culture” on social media recorded a total of 12.99 million mentions, with an engagement volume reaching 3.33 billion interactions. Industries related to this cultural phenomenon are growing rapidly. The Chinese “buddy socializing” sector has increased to 150 billion yuan ($ 20.8 billion) in market size, with more than 23,000 new buddy groups created daily.
According to a report on “dazi” socializing published by Just So Soul, a research institute of Chinese social networking platform, companionship (陪伴) categories centered on daily routines, dining out, entertainment, working out and study activities have become the most popular, with some addressing the anxiety of doing things alone, and others helping to share the costs of activities and the stress of decision-making.
Rather than being a “downgrade” of a traditional friendship, “dazi” culture is a flexible addition to close relations, reflecting the younger generation’s creative approach to managing “emotional resources”. This means keeping deep emotional connection for close friends, while using a variety of “dazi” networks to gain richer life experiences and companionship at a lower cost and higher efficiency.
12. Which would Li Zile most likely agree with?
A. Hiking buddies should be close friends.
B. Hiking groups are to build long-term relationship.
C. Missing an event means you are no longer part of the group.
D. Hiking buddies care more about the activity than deep connection.
13. Why does the author list the numbers in paragraph 4?
A. To compare which “dazi” activities are most liked.
B. To show how social media records the news of “dazi”.
C. To illustrate how popular “dazi” culture has become.
D. To stress young people spend too much on socializing.
14. What does the underlined word “addressing” probably mean in paragraph 5?
A. Dealing with. B. Writing down. C. Escaping from. D. Reflecting on.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. How Social Media Shapes Friendship
B. Hiking Together: A New Trend in Beijing
C. Young People Increasingly Embrace “dazi”
D. The Weakening of Deep Friendship in China
D 13. C 14. A 15. C
根据第三段中Li Zile的话“Rather than joining into each other’s entire lives, hiking buddies focus on sharing the activity itself, like completing a route together, sharing tools and snacks, and then returning to their own orbits. (徒步搭子们并非介入彼此的全部生活,而是专注于共享活动本身,比如一起完成一条路线、分享工具和零食,然后回到各自的生活轨道。)”可知, Li Zile认为徒步搭子们并非介入彼此的全部生活,而是专注于共享活动本身,所以他会认同“徒步搭子更注重活动本身而非深层联系”这一说法。故选D项。
【13题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“According to the Beijing Youth Daily, in 2024, discussions around “buddy culture” on social media recorded a total of 12.99 million mentions, with an engagement volume reaching 3.33 billion interactions. (据《北京青年报》报道,2024年,社交媒体上关于“搭子文化”的讨论总计有1299万条提及,互动量达到33.3亿次。)”以及“The Chinese “buddy socializing” sector has increased to 150 billion yuan ($ 20.8 billion) in market size, with more than 23,000 new buddy groups created daily. (中国“搭子社交”行业的市场规模已增至1500亿元人民币,每天有超过2.3万个新的搭子群成立。)”可知,作者列出这些数字是为了说明“搭子”文化有多么受欢迎。故选C项。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段中“According to a report on “dazi” socializing published by Just So Soul, a research institute of Chinese social networking platform, companionship (陪伴) categories centered on daily routines, dining out, entertainment, working out and study activities have become the most popular, with some addressing the anxiety of doing things alone, and others helping to share the costs of activities and the stress of decision-making. (根据中国社交平台研究机构Just So Soul发布的一份关于“搭子”社交的报告,以日常生活、外出就餐、娱乐、健身和学习活动为中心的陪伴类型最为流行,其中一些addressing独自做事的焦虑,另一些则帮助分摊活动成本和决策压力。)”可知,“搭子”关系通过陪伴来“应对”独自做事的焦虑。故划线词意为“应对;处理”,与“Dealing with”同义。故选A项。
通读全文,结合第一段“For some time, “dazi” — a Chinese expression often translated as “partner” or “buddy” — has quietly become a typical social and cultural phenomenon among China’s younger generation.

Asad was a 13-year-old boy who was very honest and hardworking. Recently, he had entered a new school, so he had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended his cousin’s wedding and reached home late, which was why he couldn’t get up on time as usual.
At school, Asad could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, Asad quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.
Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen. He saw a few of his classmates there, among them was Fahad. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant (傲慢的) boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as Asad was new, he didn’t know much about Fahad.
When he went towards Fahad and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Fahad laughed a lot and said, “I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar?” Fahad laughed out so loud that other kids also heard and made fun of the situation. He didn’t answer Fahad, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.
When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it as Fahad’s, as he remembered Fahad showing it to his friends and telling that his uncle bought it for him from the UK. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.
At first, Asad wanted to keep it a secret and punish Fahad.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Then Fahad said, “Why are you giving back?”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At first, Asad wanted to keep it a secret and punish Fahad. At least he could afford the lunch now. However, another voice popped up, urging him to give it back to Fahad, which made him feel torn. “I should never keep the wallet at the cost of my honesty, and Fahad would be extremely embarrassed without any money in the presence of so many classmates?” Asad convinced himself. Once he made up his mind, he caught him up. “Fahad, it’s your wallet and I found it on the bench.” Taking over the wallet, Fahad stared into Asad’s eyes with a puzzled look written on his face.
Then Fahad said,“Why are you giving it back?” He even looked into his wallet, obviously doubtful about Asad’s act. Calmly and patiently, Asad explained, “I had originally wanted to keep it secret as a punishment for your arrogance, but being honest matters more.” Hearing that, Fahad felt his face burning with shame. He bent, thanking Asad for saving him from the embarrassing situation and apologizing to the classmates around for calling them losers. “And the lunch is on me. You all are my friends?” Fahad announced.
①归还:give back/ return
②说服:convince/persuade

D

Then Fahad said, “Why are you giving back?”
