The Smartest Tech Devices Released This Month
The Nothing Phone with E-Ink Display Concept
An exciting concept has been presented this year that suggests making the back of the phone functional by designing the Glyph Matrix as an active E-Ink display. Thanks to the second display, the device works quite efficiently. It shows all necessary information, such as notifications, weather forecasts, calendars, and caller ID, with extremely low power consumption.
PLAUD NotePin
The PLAUD NotePin is designed to simplify note-taking for professionals, students, journalists, and content creators. This lightweight wearable voice recorder combines advanced recording technology with artificial intelligence to automatically transcribe (转录) conversations, summarise meetings, and organise important information into easy-to-read notes.
Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000
Typically, portable (便携的) chargers require you to choose between portability and capacity, but Xiaomi’s UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank has changed that trend. It measures only 6 mm and weighs 98 grams, making it one of the thinnest magnetic power banks in existence.
Roborock Saros Z70 Robot Vacuum Cleaner
What sets it apart from traditional robot vacuum cleaners is the Omni-Grip robotic arm, which can detect, grab, and move small objects like socks and tissues before cleaning. With this innovation, the vacuum can handle areas traditional models usually ignore. Equipped with AI vision and LiDAR navigation, the Saros Z70 identifies obstacles intelligently and adjusts its cleaning routes based on home furniture and floor types.

B
Last spring, I watched a video promising that anyone could grow a “mini vegetable garden” on a balcony in ten minutes. The presenter spoke so confidently that my usual doubts disappeared. The video had thousands of likes, and the presenter promised that even a “plant killer” like me could succeed. That should have been a warning. Within an hour I had ordered seeds, pots, and a bag of soil large enough to bury a small dog. My mother raised an eyebrow. “You know plants need more than enthusiasm,” she said. I assured her that enthusiasm, combined with a good video, was basically a scientific method.
The first week went smoothly. I watered my seeds twice a day—three times when I felt affectionate—and checked them every morning as if they might have grown overnight into a salad. They hadn’t. By the second week, tiny green shoots appeared, and my optimism, already bordering on delusion (近乎妄想), became unbearable. I bought fertilizer, convinced that more food meant faster growth. My neighbor, an actual gardener, watched me from her balcony with the expression of a doctor observing a patient ignoring medical advice.
Sadly, plants do not share this logic. My seedlings turned yellow, drooped (萎蔫), and began to resemble the botanical equivalent of a horror film. One by one they gave up. Only a single chili plant survived, bent like a question mark, producing one small, suspicious pepper.
When I finally harvested it, I invited my family to taste my “success.” We each took a cautious bite. The pepper was so hot that my father drank three glasses of water and my mother joked that I had tried to kill them.
Still, I kept that tiny pepper’s photo on my phone. Gardening taught me a humbling (令人谦卑的) lesson: nature does not obey enthusiasm, and failure can be strangely delicious—provided you keep a glass of water nearby.
24. Why did the author buy gardening supplies?
A. His mother asked him to grow a garden. B. A video convinced him gardening was easy.
C. He wanted to surprise his neighbor. D. He was preparing for a school experiment.
25. What does the neighbor’s expression suggest?
A. She thought the author was making a mistake.
B. She wanted to sell the author more plants.
C. She was impressed by the author’s hard work.
D. She believed the author would soon succeed.
26. What does the author mainly realize from his gardening experience?
A. Online videos are always misleading.
B. Chili peppers are hard to grow on balconies.
C. Passion cannot replace practical knowledge.
D. Failure can be a rewarding experience.
27. What would be the best title for the text?
A. When a Video Misleads You B. Ways to Grow a Vegetable Garden
C. Passion Brought Me Success D. A Gardener’s Hard Lesson
C
For years, a strange story has circulated in the rainforests of Borneo. According to local Dayak hunters, a small creature with sharp, saw-like teeth waits on a low branch, leaps onto the back of a deer, and bites its neck to drink its blood. The animal is the tufted ground squirrel, and the tale has earned it a frightening nickname: the “vampire (吸血鬼) squirrel”.
Now, field research has finally offered a different picture. Scientists from Kayan Mentarang National Park have used camera traps and long-range photography to observe the squirrel in the wild. What they found was far less dramatic—and far more interesting. The squirrel’s long, grooved incisors (门齿) are not designed for cutting blood vessels. They are built for cracking open extremely hard forest seeds. In fact, the animal feeds almost entirely on the nuts of a few specific trees, making it a highly specialized seed eater rather than a blood-drinker.
The squirrel is unusual in other ways, too. Its tail is about 30 percent larger than its body, the largest tail-to-body ratio of any squirrel in the world. Researchers believe the oversized tail helps it balance while moving through the trees.
The research team set up dozens of camera traps across the park, recording the squirrel’s activity from midday until late afternoon, mostly on the forest floor where it searches for seeds. The park’s head noted that only about 20 percent of the area has been surveyed so far, meaning many more surprises may still be hidden in the forest.
The Borneo tufted ground squirrel is currently listed as endangered, threatened by habitat loss and hunting. For scientists, the study is a reminder that stories passed down through generations can be fascinating, but they are not always reliable. Sometimes the truth about nature is stranger—and gentler—than the legend.
28. What was the local belief about the tufted ground squirrel?
A. It fed mainly on hard forest seeds. B. It attacked deer to drink their blood.
C. It used its tail to attract game. D. It lived only in the highest trees.
29. What does the research reveal about the squirrel’s teeth?
A. They are used for fighting other squirrels.
B. They are too weak to break hard nuts.
C. They are specially adapted for cracking seeds.
D. They are similar to those of deer.
30. What does the underlined word “specialized” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Different from other squirrels’ diet. B. Able to survive in many environments.
C. Dependent on human protection. D. Limited to a particular type of food.
31. Why does the author mention that only 20 percent of the park has been surveyed?
A. To criticize the park for poor management.
B. To suggest the squirrel is in danger of dying out.
C. To show that the research is far from complete.
D. To prove that camera traps are ineffective.
D
We always convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated (懊恼) that the kids aren’t old enough and we’ll be more content when they are. After that we’re frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage.
We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse (配偶) gets his or her act together, when we get a nice car, and are able to go on a nice vacation, and when we retire. The truth is there’s no better time than right now. If not now, when? Our life will always be filled with challenges. It’s best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D. Souza. He said, “For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin—real life. But there were always some obstacles in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.”
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment that you have. And remember that time waits for no one. So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school; until you get married, until you get divorced; until you have kids; until you retire; until you get a new car or home; until spring; until you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.
Happiness is a journey, not a destination (目的地). So work like you don’t need money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching.
32. What does the author want to tell us in the first two paragraphs?
A. Family life often brings more challenges than rewards.
B. People tend to delay happiness until everything is in place.
C. Happiness depends largely on one’s stage of life.
D. Parents often feel frustrated with teenage children.
33. What does the author advise readers to do?
A. Focus on the present moments. B. Remove all obstacles around you.
C. Work hard to achieve your goals. D. Wait for happiness to come later.
34. How should we understand the last paragraph?
A. People should ignore money, pain and social judgment.
B. Happiness means engaging fully despite external conditions.
C. Work, love and dance are life’s most important parts.
D. Avoiding others’ judgment is the key to happiness.
35. What is the author’s tone in this passage?
A. Critical and humorous. B. Doubtful and cautious.
C. Calm and unconcerned. D. Positive and inspiring.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The hot sun on your skin, sweat going into your eyes—anyone who has played a sport in the middle of summer knows it’s not easy. And some people even think adding heat is a good way to get a better workout—like in hot yoga or hot Pilates, which are done in rooms as hot as 38 degrees Celsius. ___36___
The answer isn’t as simple as a yes or no. There may be some benefits of exercising in high temperatures. It is believed that these works warm the muscles, which can help you avoid injuries. ___37___ This is because they make your heart work a bit harder.
But before you turn the heat up, it’s not all good news. For one thing, your body might not be able to work as hard in high heat as it can in cooler temperatures, meaning your workout won’t be as good as you might like.
___38___ Because the body sweats more, it’s easy to get dehydrated (脱水). Sweating also means losing important salts, so you may feel tightening and discomfort in your muscles or stomach.
___ 39___ It is a dangerous state of extreme overheating which happens when your body gets too hot and its temperature goes over 40 degrees Celsius. This situation of high body temperature, like heatstroke (中暑), can cause serious damage to different parts of your body, like your brain, heart, liver and kidneys and in extreme cases, even death.
If you do want to try heated exercise, there are ways to make it safer. Drinking lots of water helps stop you from getting dehydrated. ___40___ And try to wear light clothes — and take breaks when you need to!
A. But are high-temperature workouts really better?
B. The biggest risk of exercising in heat is heatstroke.
C. But why do people like high-temperature workouts?
D. Heated workouts may also help you burn more calories.
E. This is why many people prefer to exercise in the cool evening.
F. There are also health risks related to exercising in high temperatures.
G. Sports drinks will replace any of those important salts you lose from sweat too.

Last spring,I watched a video promising that anyone could grow a"mini vegetable garden"
on a balcony in ten minutes. The presenter spoke so confidently that my usual doubts disappeared.
高一英语第3页共11页
The video had thousands of likes, and the presenter promised that even a"plant killer"like me
could succeed. That should have been a warning.Within an hour I had ordered seeds, pots, and
a bag of soil large enough to bury a small dog.My mother raised an eyebrow."You know plants
need more than enthusiasm,"she said.I assured her that enthusiasm, combined with a good video,
was basically a scientific method.
The first week went smoothly.I watered my seeds twice a day-three times when I felt
affectionateand checked them every morning as if they might have grown overnight into a
salad.They hadn't.By the second week,tiny green shoots appeared,and my optimism,already
bordering on delusion(近乎妄想),became unbearable.I bought fertilizer,.convinced that more
food meant faster growth. My neighbor,an actual gardener, watched me from her balcony with
the expression of a doctor observing a patient ignoring medical advice.
Sadly, plants do not share this logic. My seedlings turnedyellow, drooped ()and began
to resemble the botanical equivalent of a horror film. One by one they gave up.Only a single
chili plant survived, bent like a question mark, producing one small, suspicious pepper.
When I finally harvested it,I invited my family to taste my"success."We each took a
cautious bite. The pepper was so hot that my father drank three glasses of water and my
mother joked that I had tried to kill them.
Still,I kept that tiny pepper's photo on my phone.Gardening taught me a humbling
lesson:nature does not obey enthusiasm, and failure can be strangely delicious-
provided you keep a glass of water nearby.
24.Why did the author buy gardening supplies?
A.His mother asked him to grow a garden.B.A video convinced him gardening was easy.
C.He wanted to surprise his neighbor.
D.He was preparing for a school experiment.
25.What does the neighbor's expression suggest?
A.She thought the author was making a mistake.
B.She wanted to sell the author more plants.
C.She was impressed by the author's hard work
D.She believed the author would soon succeed.
26.What does the author mainly realize from his gardening experience?
A.Online videos are always misleading.
B.Chili peppers are hard to grow on balconies.
C.Passion cannot replace practical knowledge.
D.Failure can be a rewarding experience.
27.What would be the best title for the text?
A.When a Video Misleads You
B.Ways to Grow a Vegetable Garden
C.Passion Brought Me Success
D.A Gardener's Hard Lesson

For years,a strange story has circulated in the rainforests of Borneo.According to local
Dayak hunters,a small creature with sharp,saw-like teeth waits on a low branch, leaps onto the
back of a deer, and bites its neck to drink its blood. The animal is the tufted ground squirrel, and
the tale has earned it a frightening nickname:the“vampire(吸血鬼)squirrel'.
Now,field research has finally offered a different picture.Scientists from Kay an Mentarang
National Park have used camera traps and long-range photography to observe the squirrel in the
wild. What they found was far less dramatic-and far more interesting. The squirrel's long,
grooved incisors (are not designed for cutting blood vessels. They are built for cracking
open extremely hard forest seeds. In fact, the animal feeds almost entirely on the nuts of a few
specific trees, making it a highly specialized seed eater rather than a blood-drinker
The squirrel is unusual in other ways, too. Its tail is about 30 percent larger than its body,
the largest tail-to-body ratio of any squirrel in the world.Researchers believe the oversized tail
helps it balance while moving through the trees.
The research team set up dozens of camera traps across the park, recording the squirrel's
activity from midday until late afternoon, mostly on the forest floor where it searches for seeds.
The park's head noted that only about 20 percent of the area has been surveyed so far, meaning
many more surprises may still be hidden in the forest.
The Borneo tufted ground squirrel is currently listed as endangered, threatened by habitat
loss and hunting. For scientists, the study is a reminder that stories passed down through
generations can be fascinating, but they are not always reliable.Sometimes the truth about nature
is stranger-and gentler-than the legend.
28.What was the local belief about the tufted ground squirrel?
A.It fed mainly on hard forest seeds.
B.It attacked deer to drink their blood.
C.It used its tail to attract game.
D.It lived only in the highest trees.
29.What does the research reveal about the squirrel's teeth?
A.They are used for fighting other squirrels.
B.They are too weak to break hard nuts.
C.They are specially adapted for cracking seeds
D.They are similar to those of deer.
30.What does the underlined word"specialized"in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Different from other squirrels'diet.
B.Able to survive in many environments.
C.Dependent on human protection.
D.Limited to a particular type of food.
31.Why does the author mention that only 20 percent of the park has been surveyed?
A.To criticize the park for poor management.
B.To suggest the squirrel is in danger of dying out.
C.To show that the research is far from complete
D.To prove that camera traps are ineffective.

We always convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then
another. Then we are frustrated()that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content
when they are. After that we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with.We will certainly
be happy when they are out of that stage.
We always tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse (gets his or
her act together, when we get a nice car,and are able to go on a nice vacation, and when we
retire. The truth is there's no better time than right now.If not now, when? Our life will always
be filled with challenges. It's best to admit this to ourselves and decide to be happy anyway.
One of my favorite quotes comes from Alfred D.Souza.He said,"For a long time it had
seemed to me that life was about to begin-real life. But there were always some obstacles in
the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served,
a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my
life.”
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness.Happiness is the
way.So treasure every moment that you have. And remember that time waits for no one.So stop
waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school;until you get married, until you get
divorced;until you have kids;until you retire;until you get a new car or home;until spring;until
you are born again to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.
Happiness is a journey, not a destination ()So work like you don't need money,
love like you've never been hurt, and dance like no one is watching

The hot sun on your skin, sweat going into your eyes-anyone who has played a sport in
the middle of summer knows it's not easy. And some people even think adding heat is a good
way to get a better workout-like in hot yoga or hot Pilates, which are done in rooms as hot as
38 degrees Celsius.36
The answer isn't as simple as a yes or no.There may be some benefits of exercising in high
temperatures. It is believed that these works warm the muscles, which can help you avoid injuries.
_37 This is because they make your heart work a bit harder.
But before you turn the heat up,it's not all good news. For one thing, your body might not
be able to work as hard in high heat as it can in cooler temperatures, meaning your workout won't
be as good as you might like.
_38Because the body sweats more,it's easy to get dehydrated ()Sweating also
means losing important salts,so you may feel tightening and discomfort in your muscles or
stomach.
_39 It is a dangerous state of extreme overheating which happens when your body
gets too hot and its temperature goes over 40 degrees Celsius. This situation of high body
temperature, like heatstroke ()can cause serious damage to different parts of your body,
like your brain, heart, liver and kidneys and in extreme cases, even death.
If you do want to try heated exercise, there are ways to make it safer.Drinking lots of water
helps stop you from getting dehydrated.40 And try to wear light clothes-and take
breaks when you need to!
A.But are high-temperature workouts really better?
B.The biggest risk of exercising in heat is heatstroke.
C.But why do people like high-temperature workouts?
D.Heated workouts may also help you burn more calories.
E.This is why many people prefer to exercise in the cool evening.
F.There are also health risks related to exercising in high temperatures.
G.Sports drinks will replace any of those important salts you lose from sweat too.

Version 1
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am terribly sorry that I failed to give my five-minute speech in your class today as scheduled. I am writing to apologize to you.
This morning, I suddenly had a bad stomachache on my way to school. My teacher sent me to the school clinic immediately, so I had no chance to inform you ahead of time. That is why I missed the speech. I have already finished preparing my speech. Could I deliver it in your next class? If it is convenient for you, I can also send my script to you for a look in advance.
Once again, I apologize for the trouble I have caused.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
Version 2
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to apologize for missing my five-minute pre-class speech today. I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience it caused.
I suddenly had a high fever this morning and had to see the doctor, which kept me from attending the speech. I know the speech was my responsibility, and I feel bad about letting you and the class down. To make up for it, I would like to give the speech at the beginning of your next class. If that is not convenient, I can send you a recorded video or my speech script instead. Please let me know which you prefer.
Once again, I am sorry for my absence.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Text 1 订火车票
M: There are direct trains to Leeds on February 15th at 7:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Which one would you like to book?
W: The earlier, the better. Thanks.
Text 2 看牙医
W: I’m having a tooth pulled tomorrow. Will you go with me? I remember you need a filling.
M: Sure. But what I need is not a filling, but a cleaning. You got it wrong.
Text 3 发型
W: Long time no see! You’ve grown your hair. You actually look like an artist now!
M: Ha-ha. You had your hair cut from shoulder-length to ear-length, and you’ve even had it straightened.
W: It suits my face shape better this way.
Text 4 忘记晾衣服
W: Did you forget to do the laundry?
M: No, I did start the washing machine.
W: But there are no clothes hanging in the yard.
M: Oh no! The clothes are still in the washing machine!
Text 5 误以为身份证丢失
M: We’re about to board the plane!
W: Yeah. Oh no, where’s my ID card? It’s not in my pocket or my bag!
M: We handed them all to Jason after security. Remember?
W: Phew, I can breathe again.
Text 6 爬山防猴建议
W: I’m going hiking tomorrow. ⑥I heard that monkeys on the mountain often steal things from tourists, like sunglasses and sun hats. Maybe I’d better just use sunscreen and skip the hat and sunglasses.
M: ⑥Yeah. It’s wise to be careful. ⑥Last time, a monkey even ran off with my camera.
W: That’s terrible! ⑦Any other tips?
M: Avoid carrying food or drinks in plastic bags. ⑦Also, walk in a group—monkeys are less likely to approach people walking together.
Text 7 调岗
M: ⑧I heard you’ve been transferred to the marketing team.
W: Yeah, ⑧I’ve been officially working there since last Wednesday.
M: ⑨Before that, you worked in the service team for two years, answering client calls, right? And you had weekends off.
W: Exactly. My new job is to create social media posts and to plan promotions, ⑨instead of talking to clients. Now, the marketing team has me work every Saturday.
M: That’s a whole different ball game. ⑩Are you used to it?
W: ⑩Not at all. I love two-day breaks more. I’ve already asked HR if there’s a chance to transfer back when a position opens up. I’d be thankful if I could go back to my old position.
Text 8 自我挑战
M: ⑪Nicole, sign your name here. Here’s a pen.
W: ⑪Thanks.
M: ⑪Wait. Why are you using your left hand? You’re not left-handed.
W: ⑪It’s a personal challenge. I’ll do this for a week. Breaking routines can help keep the brain active. I challenged myself to draw pictures and use the mouse with my left hand a while ago.
M: I have heard that doing simple tasks in different ways, like taking a new route to school, can boost creativity. Do you reward yourself for finishing these challenges?
W: ⑫Absolutely. I’ve already rewarded myself with a mystery box. If I succeed this time, I’ll reward myself with a phone case. Would you like to join me? The next challenge is not checking social media for a week.
M: Well, maybe I’ll try something simpler.
W: ⑬The “meal-time phone silence” challenge is a good start—just no screens while eating.
M: ⑬Okay, that’s my challenge: phone-free meals!
Text 9 独特新奇的博物馆
W: It’s really impressive that the United States is home to over 35,000 museums!
M: Tell me about it. ⑭California alone has over 700, the most of any state, while Rhode Island, despite having just 44, has the most museums per square mile. Speaking of which, have you ever been to any novel museums?
W: Yeah, ⑮I visited the International Banana Museum last year.
M: That sounds fun. I’ve been to the Museum of Bad Art in Massachusetts. ⑯It collects, exhibits and celebrates art that wouldn’t be welcomed to any traditional art museums.
W: I know it. ⑯One of its highlights, Lucy in the Field with Flowers, has stuck in my mind.
M: ⑯This painting was found leaning against a rubbish can in 1993, waiting to be collected by a rubbish truck. And have you heard of the Museum of Motherhood? It covers the art, science and history of mothers…
Text 10 配音演员的一天
M: ⑰Have you ever wondered whose voice brings your favorite cartoon characters to life or tells the stories in documentaries? None of this would be possible without the hard work of people like Lucas. Let’s follow Lucas through a typical workday.
⑰A voice actor’s day begins long before they step into the recording studio. Lucas’ day starts with a light breakfast at around 7:00 a.m. ⑱He usually drinks honey water and warm tea in the mornings. Coffee is a big no-no, as it can make his throat dry and tight. Then he spends an hour reviewing his scripts for the day. Today, he has two work projects: a TV drama and a video game.
By 9:30 a.m., Lucas arrives at the recording studio. ⑲The first project, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is for the TV drama. With the director and the sound engineer in the recording studio, he voices his character.
⑳After a 30-minute lunch, Lucas’ second project begins. This one is for the video game. It ends at 3:00 p.m. Then he takes a short online vocal coaching class. He finishes his workday at 6:00 p.m., but keeps up his voice care routine—avoiding loud noises and drinking plenty of water.
