at a restaurant. His mother taught him basic sewing skills, and he turned his home into a small
workshop, making and selling hats on the street.
Later, his three childhood friends joined him to develop the business. However, they met
huge difficulties.Daymond tried 27 times to get bank loans (but all failed,as banks
doubted his project. Finally, his mother supported him greally. She mortgaged ()their house
and raised $100.000 for him, helping him build a mini factory at home.
At that time, most fashion brands ignored the hip-hop community. But FUBU welcomed it.
Starting out broke forced Daymond to think more creatively, use resources more efficiently and
connect with customers more honestly.A big break came when LL Cool J was talked into wearing
FUBU clothes in public shows and on TV by Daymond, which helped FUBU get wide attention
and made it well-known nationwide. In 1995,Daymond went into partnership with Samsung and in
5 years,the sales reached 200 million.Shortly after the deal with Samsung,FUBU even
established a clothing line with the NBA.

Strong family ties, emotional support and open communication play a central role in
promoting teenagers'mental and social well-being,according to the Doha International Family
Institute (DIFI).DIFI in its recent newsletter said that family cohesion (is not simply
determined by family members living together or the amount of time they spend under one roof,
but by the quality of relationships, communication, mutual(相互的)respect,
emotional
support, shared responsibilities and involvement in decision-making.
According to data quoted by DIFI,97.13 percent of family members said they enjoy
spending time together.Meanwhile,95.01 percent expressed satisfaction with the quality of
communication within their families, and 98.89 percent said they feel a strong sense of belonging
to their families. The findings also point to the importance of parents'presence and emotional
support in teenagers'lives.DIFI said 57 percent of parents spend about 30 hours a week with their
children, while 71.56 percent of teenagers receive emotional support from their fathers.
DIFI stressed that teenagers'well-being extends beyond academic achievement and material
resources,including mental well-being,quality of life,family relationships,a sense of belonging
and confidence in building the future. It added that spending more time with children does not
automatically translate into family cohesion.Rather, meaningful interaction based on dialogue,
emotional support and mutual respect is key to strengthening family relationships.Similarly,
meeting teenagers'material needs alone cannot ensure their well-being.According to DIFI,
emotional security, effective communication and a sense of belonging are equally important in
helping young people develop and deal with challenges.
The institute advised parents to encourage open dialogue with their children, particularly
teenagers, listen attentively to their concerns and make time for meaningful family interactions
away from distractions.Parents were also encouraged to provide emotional support through
appreciation and active listening, take part in activities and interests with their children, and
involve them in suitable family decisions to develop their confidence and sense of responsibility.
DIFI warned against allowing electronic devices and social media to replace direct family
communication,relying on constant criticism,or ignoring children's feelings and opinions.Among
its recommendations, the institute called for guidance programmes to strengthen parents'skills in
adopting positive parenting approaches.
28.What do we know about family closeness?
A.It grows with shared roof time.
B.It needs quality interaction.
C.It depends on parental income.
D.It comes from timely understanding.
@第4页(共8页)

B.To compare family satisfaction levels.
C.To question parents'communication quality.
D.To stress academic achievement's importance.
30.What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on?
A.What matters for teenagers'well-being.
B.Why effective communication is important.

Life has improved greatly for humanity since soft paper products like tissues and toilet paper
came into wide use.Personal hygiene (has never been so convenient for ordinary people.
However, this comfort comes at an environmental cost, because most of these products are made
from trees.Fortunately, this situation may soon change. One of the biggest producers of tissue
products has discovered a potential replacement for wood fiber in a desert plant called
hesperaloe(红丝兰).
In its search for a practical,eco-friendly option, the company researched 70 potential
materials, including wheat straw, leftover corn and seaweed. In the end, hesperaloe,a plant that
grows well in dry climates, was considered the best choice.
For years, producers have experimented with materials such as bamboo and recycled paper.
However, they are less attractive to consumers because they are typically more costly. In addition,
some products marketed as bamboo-based were actually made mostly of wood fibers.Given that
environmental groups claim that over 1 million trees are cut down every day to produce toilet
paper, the need for a greener option is becoming more urgent.
Now the company is building a piece of equipment in Arizona, working with local growers to
test whether hesperaloe can be used commercially ()For the company,it is the result of
many years of effort."This represents an exciting moonshot for our company after more than 20
years of research into materials and plant science,a researcher in charge of the project said.
Though there are still years of work ahead before hesperaloe products reach store shelves, the
very fact that a major producer is taking the need to move away from wood fiber seriously is
encouraging. The search for more environmentally friendly tissues may have found a promising new
solution.Perhaps the desert plant could help reduce our dependence on trees.Only time will tell
whether it can truly live up to people's high expectations.
32.Why are bamboo-based tissue products less popular?
A.They look less attractive.
B.They are hard to produce.
C.They are more expensive.
D.They harm the environment.
33.What does the underlined word"moonshot"in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.A scientific mistake.
B.A risky but great attempt.
C.A common daily task.
D.A time-consuming experiment.
34.What can be inferred about hesperaloe products?
A.They are already on the market.
B.They will replace all wood fibers.
C.They still need tests before sale.
D.They are softer than wood fibers.
④第5页(共8页)
35.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.The disadvantages of traditional tissues.
B.A new material for greener tissue products.
C.The prospect of eco-friendly plant materials
D.The efforts to protect trees from being cut down.

Miscommunications can be funny, frustrating,or upsetting. When you put some effort into
your conversations, you can lower your risk of miscommunicating. Here are some tips for you to
avoid miscommunications.
Think before you speak.
Thinking about your words allows you to organize your thoughts and prepare to say something
meaningful, especially for important conversations.36 If you have trouble expressing
yourself, write down some key points to make sure you cover all you want to say.Take an
intentional pause before speaking. This helps you take a moment to compose your thoughts and
make your communication clear.
Get their attention.
Having a person's attention means making sure they are listening and understanding what you
say.Make eye contact and check in to ensure they are listening. If other persons are distracted or
busy, ask for their attention by saying,"I'd appreciate your full attention."37 Avoid calling
out to get attention-approach them and speak face to face whenever possible.
38
You might assume that people understand what you're saying or asking them to do.However,
explain anything that the person might be unsure about. You may overestimate or underestimate
the amount of knowledge or ability someone has,so it's best to ask. This is especially true if you're
talking to someone from a different culture. You might assume they understand slang ()but
it doesn't hurt to ask.39
Check for understanding.
40 This can be as simple as saying "Do you have any questions?",which gives them
the opportunity to voice any concerns or problems they have. This can help people feel comfortable
to ask questions or seek an explanation. For example,if you're giving directions, ask them to
repeat back to you to ensure understanding.
A.Remove your assumptions.
B.Learn about foreign slangs.
C.If they look confused, try explaining it better.
D.Distractions often lead to poor communication.
E.Check in with the person to ensure they have understood you.
F.If necessary, you can talk later when they are more available.
G.Remember to keep your focus narrow and try not to get off topic.

第二节(满分25分)】
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At the beginning of my second year of high school,I stepped through the front doors with my
heavy backpack and my slightly oversized T-shirt,wearing an air of confidence.
I had spent the previous year building a name for myself as the kid who always had the
answer.I raised my hand in every class, passed every test with high scores, and never once let my
smile fade. But that confidence was a carefully constructed facade ()and it was starting to
crack under the pressure of my own expectations.
The breaking point came during a particularly hard week in October.I had three major tests,
a debate tournament ()and an upcoming deadline for the school newspaper.I had stayed
up until two in the morning each night that week, fueled by coffee and a strong need to prove that
I could handle everything.By Thursday,I was womn out.I did badly in a math test I had studied
hours for, forgot to hand in an English essay, and nearly broke down in tears in the middle of the
hallway when a friend asked me how I was doing.
I didn't know how to answer that question."Fine"had been my automatic response for so
long that saying anything else felt like admitting defeat. But I wasn't fine.I was tired, and terrified
that everyone would see through the act I had been performing for years.
That night,I called my older sister, who was in her second year of college.I expected her to
tell me to push through,to work harder.Instead, she was quiet for a moment and then said
something I've never forgotten:"You don't have to be the strongest person in every room.
Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is ask for help."
I didn't fully understand what she meant at first.Asking for help felt like weakness. It felt
like giving up.But the more I thought about it,the more I realized that I had been holding myself
to an impossible standard.I wasn't Superman.I was a fifteen-year-old kid who was trying his best
and failing sometimes. And that was okay. The next moming,I did something I had never done before.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I walked into my English teacher's office and told her I had missed the deadline.
Thanks to my English teacher's kindness,I stopped trying to be perfect and started trying to ask
for help.

Text 10
Good morning, everyone.I'm Leo Chen.We are gathered here today to mark the fifteenth anniversary of the Sunrise
Future Project. Many of you have offered your time-whether by working at the community center or tutoring at the local
learning center. On behalf of everyone whose life has been touched by this project,I extend our heartfelt thanks to each
of you.
I speak from my own experience. At sixteen,I faced a difficult family situation and had no stable home.It was then
that a social worker connected me with a Sunrise volunteer. That was the turning point.Through the project,I received not
only a safe place to stay but also the steady academic guidance and help in developing practical skills.
Today,I am pursuing further studies at a college, spending several hours each week as a volunteer at the very same
community center. There,I meet teenagers who are going through challenges similar to what I once faced. It reminds me
daily how powerful your generosity can be.
Now,it is my great honor to invite our Chairman,Elena Wright, who will share with us the inspiring story of how the
Sunrise Future Project began.
