The 20th Asian Games (亚运会) opened in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 19, 2026. When people talked about the Games, they often connected them with medals, records and exciting matches. But this year, there was another part worth paying attention to: people could also discover Asia through food, music and cultures.
During the Games, an official celebration fan zone called One Asia World was held in Nagoya. The cultural event ran from September 19 to October 4, the same time as the Asian Games. Visitors could watch performances, taste food and learn about different Asian cultures. The event showed that a sports festival could be much more than just a competition.

In Chinese history, there are Four Great Inventions: the compass, gunpowder, paper-making, and printing. They have made people’s lives easier and better.

Desertification (荒漠化) is a difficult problem for the whole world. For many years, Chinese scientists have had rich experience in dealing with desertification in Northwest China. Now they are working to help African countries turn their sandy areas into green ones.
China has made great progress through hard work, though it is seriously influenced by desertification. Until November 2024, China built a long wall of trees, which caught the world’s attention. It is 3,046 km long! And China has created 32 million hectares (公顷) of new forest.
Chinese scientists shared the technologies with Mauritania, an African country. They introduced different kinds of plants from China and used straw checkerboards to stop sand from moving. They developed new ways to save water for farming. Smart technologies such as robots, drones and sand-blocking systems (阻沙系统) driven by solar panels also helped a lot.
The China-Africa Green Technology Park was built in Mauritania. In 2024, the park was an empty land swept by wind and sand. Just one year later, there were grasses, fruits and vegetables. Wang Yongdong, a senior engineer from China, said, “The goal of the park is not only to protect the environment but also to help local people.” So far, China has trained 45 skilled workers and created 120 jobs for the local community.

In 2026, Chinese mathematician Wang Hong won this award, becoming only the third female winner in its 90-year history. Together with scholar Deng Yu, they made history as the first Chinese to claim two Fields Medals at the same conference.
Wang Hong’s learning experience is extraordinary (特别的). Born in 1991, she skipped grades, entered high school at 13 years old and was admitted to Peking University at 16.
