Most people think laughing at your own small mistakes is a ___1___ way to look friendly and relaxed around others. Scientists are now studying the ___2___ effects of making fun of ourselves, and warning us about the risks of too much self-mockery (自嘲).
If you spill a drink by accident in public, a light joke about your clumsiness (笨拙) ___3___ works fine. It tells people you don't take yourself too seriously, and makes everyone feel less stressed about the small accident. But if you often joke about important parts of yourself — like saying "I'm terrible at everything" when you fail a small task — it causes problems.
First, other people will start to ___4___ you as less talented or hardworking than you really are. If you always say you're bad at your job, your teachers or boss will finally start to ___5___ that. Worse, if you keep saying negative things about yourself, you will slowly start to believe them. Studies found people who often mock (嘲讽) their own serious flaws feel much more ___6___ about their abilities later.
So how to use self humor correctly? Only joke about ___7___, unimportant mistakes (like dropping your pen, not failing an important exam). Never make jokes that attack your own core (核心) ___8___. If you find yourself making the same negative self-joke again and again, ___9___ right away. Also, if people stop laughing and just ___10___ what you say about yourself, that's a sign you've gone too far.
Self humor can be a useful tool, but only if you use it to connect with people, not to ___11___ yourself. Being kind to yourself is just as ___12___ as being funny.

Nowadays, plenty of teenagers spend large amounts of time on short-video apps. This habit brings influences on teenagers' mental state and daily study. Parents want to know what bad effects short-video usage brings to teenagers. Here are several main influences.
Sleep
Watching short videos before bedtime influences teenagers' sleep quality. This also influences grown-ups. Using short-video apps for more than one hour every day is regarded as over-usage for teenagers. Over-screen time will cut teenagers' total sleeping hours shorter.

____________
A research shows that teenagers spending over 6 hours on short-videos each day are more likely to feel upset and anxious. Too much short-video time connects closely with teenagers' low sense of happiness.
Attention
Short videos change teenagers' ways of receiving information. It is hard for them to focus on long texts or difficult tasks for a long time. Their attention span becomes shorter. Gradually, they may fall behind in school subjects because they cannot keep their minds on learning tasks.

In May 2026, Chinese astronauts on Tiangong Space Station successfully grew tomato plants in the space greenhouse. This marks another important step for China's space-plant-growing research. Different from common soil planting on Earth, the experiment uses an advanced nutrient liquid system (营养液系统) to feed plants under the special micro-gravity environment in space.
The experiment began in February 2026. Astronauts planted tomato seeds in special nutrient liquid. To help the seeds grow well, astronauts checked temperature and light conditions inside the greenhouse every single day. They also adjusted the specially-designed LED light to fit the needs of the plants. The first small shoots came out within 9 days, two days quicker than the same type of tomatoes grown on Earth. This surprised scientists because micro-gravity usually slows down plant development in many cases.
During the following months, astronauts carefully looked after these plants. They controlled plant height and collected information about plant growth, leaf condition and nutrient intake. Besides daily observation, they carried out manual pollination (人工授粉), a necessary step for tomatoes to bear fruit in space. In late May, these tomato plants produced ripe fruits, which were collected and sealed for bringing back to Earth. Once back on the ground, researchers will compare the space-grown tomatoes with Earth samples to study the influence of space environment.
Space-research scientists say this experiment helps them develop new types of crops for future space trips. "If we can grow fresh vegetables in space, astronauts can stay in space for much longer without depending totally on supplies sent from Earth," said the leading researcher. Plants grown in space can also produce oxygen and take in carbon dioxide, helping create a better living environment inside the station. The team also hopes this technology can help improve crop output in poor-soil areas on Earth. Apart from tomatoes, China has also carried out experiments with rice and lettuce on Tiangong to build a complete "space farm" for long-term space exploration.
