考点 01  方位词与in the north / south / east / west of...

I come from Guangzhou, a big city in the south of China.  我来自广州，一个位于中国南方的城市。

It's in the north of the city.  它在城市的北部。

▸ north（北）、east（东）、south（南）、west（西）是四个方位词。in the + 方位词 + of + 地点表示"在某地的某个方位"。

解析：看地图要知道"上北下南，左西右东"。说某个地方在某地的哪个方向，用in the + 方位词 + of结构，方位词前一定要加the。

一、认识四个方位词

north北、east东、south南、west西。地图上通常是上北下南、左西右东。太阳从东方升起，在西方落下。

例句：Beijing is in the north of China. 北京在中国的北部。

二、in the + 方位词 + of + 地点

说一个地方在某地的南部，用in the south of：It's in the south of China.（它在中国的南部。）说北部用in the north of。

例句：It's in the north of the city. 它在城市的北部。

⚠ 易错提醒：It's in south of China.(✗) 方位词前面不能漏掉the：It's in the south of China.(√)

【拓展】in the middle of表示"在……中间"：In the middle of the lake, there is a small island.（在湖的中央，有一座小岛。）

考点 02  方位介词：next to / between...and... / opposite

Is it next to the river?  它在河边吗？

It's between the train station and the shopping centre.  它在火车站和购物中心之间。

▸ next to（在旁边）、between...and...（在两者之间）、opposite（在对面）、in the middle of（在中间）、far away from（离……远）都是表示位置的介词短语。

解析：说两个地方的位置关系要用方位介词。紧挨着用next to，在两者之间用between...and...，在对面用opposite。

一、next to和opposite

next to表示"紧挨着"：The bank is next to the school.（银行在学校旁边。）opposite表示"在……对面"，前面不加to：The park is opposite the market.（公园在市场对面。）

例句：Is it next to the river? 它在河边吗？
