We flew on a small plane to a faraway village. We did not speak the local language, did not know the customs, and more often than not, did not entirely recognize the food. We could not have felt more foreign. We were raised on books and computers, highways and cell phones, but now we were living in a village without running water or electricity. It was easy for us to go to sleep at the end of the day feeling a little misunderstood. Then one perfect Amazonian evening, with monkeys calling from beyond the village green, we played soccer. I am not good at soccer, but that evening it was wonderful. Everyone knew the rules. We all spoke the same language of passes and shots. We understood one another perfectly. As darkness came over the field and the match ended, the goal keeper, Juan, walked over to me and said in a matter-of-fact way, “In your home, do you have a moon too?” I was surprised. After I explained to Juan that yes, we did have a moon and yes, it was very similar to his, I felt a sort of awe (敬畏) at the possibilities that existed in his world. In Juan’s world, each village could have its own moon. In Juan’s world, the unknown and undiscovered was vast and marvelous. Anything was possible. In our society, we know that Earth has only one moon. We have looked at our planet from every angle and found all of the wildest things left to find. I can, from my computer at home, pull up satellite images of Juan’s village. There are no more continents and no more moons to search for, little left to discover. At least it seems that way. Yet, as I thought about Juan’s question, I was not sure how much more we could really rule out. I am, in part, an ant biologist, so my thoughts turned to what we know about insect life and I knew that much in the world of insects remains unknown. How much, though? How ignorant (无知的) are we? The question of what we know and do not know constantly bothered me. I began collecting newspaper articles about new species, new monkey, new spider…, and on and on they appear. My drawer quickly filled. I began a second drawer for more general discoveries: new cave system discovered with dozens of nameless species, four hundred species of bacteria found in the human stomach. The second drawer began to fill and as it did, I wondered whether there were bigger discoveries out there, not just species, but life that depends on things thought to be useless, life even without DNA. I started a third drawer for these big discoveries. It fills more slowly, but all the same, it fills. In looking into the stories of biological discovery, I also began to find something else, a collection of scientists, usually brilliant, occasionally half-mad, who made the discoveries. Those scientists very often see the same things that other scientists see, but they pay more attention to them, and they focus on them to the point of exhaustion (穷尽), and at the risk of the ridicule of their peers. In looking for the stories of discovery, I found the stories of these people and how their lives changed our view of the world. We are repeatedly willing to imagine we have found most of what is left to discover. We used to think that insects were the smallest organisms (生物), and that nothing lived deeper than six hundred meters. Yet, when something new turns up, more often than not, we do not even know its name. 41. How did the author feel on his arrival in the Amazon? A. Out of place.  B. Full of joy.  C. Sleepy.  D. Regretful. 42. What made that Amazonian evening wonderful? A. He learned more about the local language.  B. They had a nice conversation with each other. C. They understood each other while playing.  D. He won the soccer game with the goal keeper. 43. Why was the author surprised at Juan’s question about the moon? A. The question was too straightforward.  B. Juan knew so little about the world. C. The author didn’t know how to answer.  D. The author didn’t think Juan was sincere. 44. What was the author’s initial purpose of collecting newspaper articles? A. To sort out what we have known.  B. To deepen his research into Amazonians. C. To improve his reputation as a biologist.  D. To learn more about local cultures. 45. How did those brilliant scientists make great discoveries? A. They shifted their viewpoints frequently.  B. They followed other scientists closely. C. They often criticized their fellow scientists.  D. They conducted in-depth and close studies. 41. A 42. C 43. B 44. A 45. 根据第三段守门员Juan的问题中“In your home, do you have a moon too?( 你们家乡也有月亮吗?)”以及第五段中“In our society, we know that Earth has only one moon.( 在我们的社会中,我们知道地球只有一个月亮。)” 根据第六段末尾“The question of what we know and do not know constantly bothered me.( 我们知道什么和不知道什么的问题一直困扰着我。)”紧接着第七段中“I began collecting newspaper articles about new species, new monkey, new spider…, and on and on they appear.( 我开始收集报纸上关于新物种、新猴子、新蜘蛛…… 根据第八段中的“Those scientists very often see the same things that other scientists see, but they pay more attention to them, and they focus on them to the point of exhaustion (穷尽), and at the risk of the ridicule of their peers.( 这些科学家往往能看到其他科学家所见的同样事物,但他们更加关注这些事物,甚至会为此付出到极尽的努力,冒着被同行嘲笑的风险。)” C To err is human. To blame the other guy is even more human. Common sense is not all that common. Why tell the truth when you can come up with a good excuse? These three popular misquotes(戏谑的引语)are meant to be jokes, and yet they tell us a lot about human nature .To err, or to make mistakes, is indeed a part of being human, but it seems that most people don’t want to accept the responsibility for the problem. Perhaps it is the natural thing to do .The original quote about human nature went like this:” To err is human, to forgive, divine(神圣的).”This saying mirrors an deal people should be forgiving of others’ mistakes. Instead, we tend to do the opposite –find someone else to pass the blame on to. However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a making of great maturity. Common sense is what we call clear thought. Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan. Commonsense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm, but you leave the umbrella home when you hear a weather forecast for sunshine.Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everything. People say that in a large company,”the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.” And what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art? One of the common problems with making excuses is that people, especially young people. get the idea that it’s okay not to be totally honest all the time. There is a corollary(直接推论)to that: if good excuse is “good”even if it isn’t honest, then where is the place of the truth? 46. According to title passage, which of following seems the most human? A. To search for truth. B. To achieve one’s ideal C. To make fun of others’mistakes. D. To criticize others for one’s own error. 47. According to the author, what is a sign of a man’s maturity? A. Doing things his own way. B. Bearing responsibility for his mistakes. C. Making as few mistakes as possible. D. Thinking seriously about his wrongdoing. 48. Which of the following isN0Tbased on common sense? A. A man tries to take charge of everything in a large company. B. A student goes out with an umbrella in stormy weather. C. A company’s next move follows a good plan. D. A lawyer acts on fine judgments. 49. What is the author’s opinion about a good excuse? A. Making a good excuse is sometimes a better policy. B. Inventing a good excuse needs creative ideas. C. A good excuse is as rewarding as honesty. D. Bitter truth is better than a good excuse. 50. What would be the best title for his passage? A. A Mirror of Human Nature B. To Blame or to Forgive C. A Mark of Maturity D. Truth or Excuse 【答案】46. D 47. B 48. A 49. D 50. 从引言后第一段倒数第三句话“The original quote about human nature went like this:” To err is human, to forgive, divine(神圣的).”This saying mirrors an deal people should be forgiving of others’ mistakes. Instead, we tend to do the opposite –find someone else to pass the blame on to. However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a making of great maturity.“(关于人性的起初说法是犯错是人,宽恕是神。 引言后第一段最后一句“ However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a making of great maturity.”(然而,勇于承担错误带来的责任就是成熟的标志。) 倒数第二段“Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everything.”(常识似乎对于一个大的组织并不适合,因为有太多的事情要处理以至于一个人不可能负责全部工作。) 从“Common sense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm”(常识告诉你,暴风雨时应该带把伞出门)得出B项正确。“Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan. 故选A。 从最后一段最后一句话“if good excuse is “good” even if it isn’t honest, then where is the place of the truth? 得出D项是正确答案;C项一个好的借口和诚实一样的有价值 是错的;从“what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art?”(认为编一个好的理由就是在创造一件艺术品,这样的社会怎么了?) 选A。 第Ⅱ卷(共30分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) It is said that a person's high school years are some of the most important they will experience, and are often seen as a critical and life-shaping time. I couldn't agree more. My high school life has been filled with many ups and downs, whether it was social or academic. Even though my current high school was not my first choice, I never regretted attending Southside High School. “Since you have chosen it, then it is the best for you,” said my parents. Up until the junior year I did not realize my capabilities(能力) as a student. Being in the IB Program, I was told that my junior year would be the toughest in all the years of high school. With this “little” piece of information, I walked into my junior year, scared of my grades. As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong. My grades were rapidly declining and by the end of the first term I had had five Cs in seven of my classes! I could not believe it—I did not want to believe it. I tried my best to get my grades up myself without any help from anyone, but my pride just made my grades worse. And I had to miss out on one of the most important speech and debate competitions all year: States. I was heartbroken. I realized that I could not survive my junior year on my own, so I had to get help fast. Once I got a tutor, my grades went from Cs, Ds, and even some Fs, to nothing but As and Bs. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself. By the time the third and fourth quarter came around, I had been on the honor roll twice, and I was receiving awards from speeches and debates, tennis and school. Southside has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me. I am proud to be a Southside Tiger. 51. What does the underlined part mean in Paragraph 2? (no more than 5 words) 52. How did the writer feel when she walked into her junior year? (no more than 5words) 53. Why were the writer s grades rapidly declining? (no more than 10 words) 54. What important lesson has the writer learned at Southside High School?(no more than 10 words) 55. What do you think of your high school life? Please give your reason.(no more than 25 words) 【答案】51. Good and bad things/ aspects/experiences/ situations/. Joys and sorrows. 52. She felt upset / worried / It was tough. / She was scared of grades 53. Because she didn't get prepared for the junior year./She didn't expect the junior year to be that hard. 54. She should face difficulties bravely./ always keep your head up and never give up. 55. It was good, because I managed to learn a lot, and met a lot of great people. 根据下文中作者对于高中生活的回忆以及第四段“my grades went from Cs, Ds, and even some Fs, to nothing but As and Bs. I slowly started to gain my confidence back in all of my classes and even myself.(我的分数从C、D甚至是F到了A和B,我慢慢开始重拾我对所有课程甚至是自己的信心)”可知,上文“ups and downs”说的是好事和坏事,喜悦或悲伤。 Good and bad things/ aspects/experiences/ situations/. Joys and sorrows. 根据第三段“I walked into my junior year, scared of my grades.(我进入我的高中生活,担心着自己的分数)”可知,作者的心情是担心,恐惧的,故答案为She felt upset / worried / It was tough. / She was scared of grades 【53题详解】 考查细节理解。根据第三段“As weeks went by, I started to believe that the junior year was not as hard as everyone had said, but I was wrong.(几周过去了,我开始相信高中没有别人说的那么难,但是我错了)”可知,作者因为没有预料到高中这么难,而没有做好准备,所以成绩才会下降,故答案为Because she didn't get prepared for the junior year./She didn't expect the junior year to be that hard. 根据最后一段“Southside has taught me to always keep my head up and never give up on myself no matter what life throws at me(南方学校教会了我不管生活扔给我什么,我都要永远抬起头,永远不放弃自己)”可知,作者在学校里学会了如何面对困难,永不言弃,故答案为She should face difficulties bravely./ always keep your head up and never give up. It was good, because I managed to learn a lot, and met a lot of great people.(结合自身感受,合理即可) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 天津钢管公司中学2026—2027学年度第一学期质量检测(一) 高三英语 本试卷分第Ⅰ卷和第Ⅱ卷两部分,共120分,考试时间90分钟 第Ⅰ卷(共90分) 第一节:听力(共15小题;15分) 听下面5段对话。 1.How will the speakers travel? On a gym notice B I was in the middle of the Amazon (亚马逊) with my wife, who was there as a medical researcher. C To err is human. To blame the other guy is even more human. Common sense is not all that common. Truth or Excuse 第Ⅱ卷(共30分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) It is said that a person's high school years are some of the most important they will experience, and are often seen as a critical and life-shaping time. 51.
