A One-Day Trip to the Ancient City of Xi’an
Last National Day holiday, my parents took me to Xi’an, one of the most famous ancient cities in China. We had only one day there, but it was full of amazing experiences.
Our first stop was the ancient city wall. It is one of the best-preserved city walls in the world. We rented two bikes and cycled along the top of the wall. From there, we could see the whole city—modern buildings beside old houses, busy streets among quiet parks. The view was really impressive.
At noon, we went to the Muslim Quarter. The narrow streets were crowded with people, and the air was filled with the smell of delicious food. We tried local specialties like roujiamo and biangbiang noodles. My mother kept taking photos of everything.
In the afternoon, we visited the world-famous Terracotta Army. Standing in front of the thousands of life-size statues, I could hardly believe my eyes. Each soldier had a different face and expression, as if they were guarding the tomb of the first emperor. I felt the power of Chinese civilization at that moment.
Although the trip was short, it made me want to explore more of our country. As my father said, “China is a book, and every city is a chapter.”

I woke up early and rushed out of the door in my eagerness to get to know my new school. The campus was still quiet when I arrived, so I decided to explore a bit. I was looking at the photos on the noticeboard when I heard a voice behind me. “New here?” Turning around, I saw a white-haired man. “Yes,” I replied. “I’m wondering what life is going to be like here.” “Don’t worry,” he gave me a smile. “You’ll soon find out.”
How true these words were! When the class began, the teacher asked us to introduce ourselves one by one. “It’s your turn!” the girl next to me gave me a nudge. I tried to organise my words in my head. With butterflies in my stomach, I breathed deeply. “Hi, I’m Meng Hao.” Everyone started laughing. I looked at them in panic. “Nice to know we share the same name,” said my new teacher. I had been too nervous to pay attention when he introduced himself!
