Learning that you’ll be visiting Jingzhou soon, I feel more than delighted. Now I’m writing to offer you some recommendations on your schedule here.
You can begin your exploration with the most famous tourist attractions, such as the city wall, Guan Yuan Temple and so on. I believe these sights will definitely leave a deep impression on you. Besides, Jingzhou Museum is also a must-see, where you can have a taste of the long history and profound culture of our city. Apart from enjoying a journey of history and culture, what you can’t afford to miss in Jingzhou is its typical local foods like dalian noodles and fish cake.
I do hope that you can enjoy your stay in Jingzhou. I’m eagerly looking forward to your coming.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: Mr. Peterson said we should study alone, but Mr. Owen advised us to get into a study group.
2.W: Hello. Can I help you?
M: I’m in Room 423 and my bag should have been taken to my room but it’s not there.
W: Sorry, sir. I’ll check what happened right now.
3.W: The holiday is coming. What are you going to do, Andrew?
M: No more traveling this year. And I don’t get any homework to do. Maybe I’ll play with my new-born brother at home.
4.M: Lisa, let’s do something fun this afternoon. How about going skating?
W: David, shall we turn to another sport?
M: Come on! It’s not difficult to learn.
W: I know, but I don’t want to get hurt.
5.M: How was the weather for your climbing trip last Saturday?
W: It rained a little in the morning, but got sunny in the afternoon.
M: Did you have a lot of fun?
W: Sure.
听第6段材料,回答第6、7题。
M: You just came back from Chongqing a week ago, and now you are going to travel again. Are you joking?
W: No. I only came back to Nanjing to deal with something. Now that it has been settled, I want to set out again. This time I’ve decided to see the flag-raising ceremony in Tian’anmen Square, which I’ve never seen in person.
M: All right. When are you leaving?
W: I’ll leave at this time the day after tomorrow, that is, this Wednesday.
M: I wish you a good trip.
听第7段材料,回答第8至10题。
W: Hey, your birthday is coming up next month. What do you want for your present?

M: No, I’ve got plenty of shoes and books, and my phone is only half a year old.
W: Well, we’ve got to celebrate your birthday somehow.
M: Mom, I’ve been reading a lot about kids in other countries who don’t have enough food to eat. It seems wrong to get a lot of expensive presents. Other people can’t even afford a meal.
W: You’ve got such a big heart, honey. Hey, I know! Why don’t we do some research on the Internet and find some charities to donate money to? We can take whatever we would spend on a gift and give it to some kids in need instead!
M: That’s a great idea. You’re the best mom!

M: That’s nice. Do you have a big yard?
W: Yes. I have planted some flowers, vegetables and fruit trees in the yard. The old yard was so small that only a few flowers could be planted.
M: Wow, so nice. The view of your new yard must be good in spring.
W: Yes. It’ll be quite beautiful.
M: Oh, how many rooms are there in your new house?

W: But now it’s just the first week of this term. You really like to get a jump on things. Well, I’m a little tired. Would you like to get some coffee with me?
M: Sure. Let me get my things together. Where are my notes? I thought they were in my bag.
W: You lost your notebook?
M: No, I don’t use a notebook. I take notes on paper cards.
W: Now, think about your steps in your mind since you came in the library.

May I have your attention, please? This is Vice Principal Peter White with a special announcement. Because of icy road conditions, all after-school activities today have been canceled. If you are in one of these activities and normally ride the special activity bus, listen carefully. The special activity bus will leave today directly after the final bell rings, and it will leave from the east parking lot. Regular buses will leave from the west parking lot. If you are being picked up by a parent today instead of riding the bus, your parent must come to the main office first and sign you out. Please do not leave school with your parent unless you are signed out at the office. All buses will be on snow roads this afternoon. They will drop you at your snow bus stop. Thank you.

You can either travel or read, but either your body or soul must be on the way. The popular saying has inspired many people to read or go sightseeing. Traveling just like reading, is a refreshing journey from the busy world. Books, brain food, can keep you company on your travel.

B
I work with Volunteers for Wildlife, a rescue and education organization at Bailey Arboretum in Locust Valley. Trying to help injured, displaced or sick creatures can be heartbreaking; survival is never certain. However, when it works, it is simply beautiful.
I got a rescue call from a woman in Muttontown. She had found a young owl(猫头鹰) on the ground. When I arrived, I saw a 2-to 3-week-old owl. It had already been placed in a carrier for safety.
I examined the chick(雏鸟) and it seemed fine. If I could locate the nest, I might have been able to put it back, but no luck. My next work was to construct a nest and fix it in a tree.
The homeowner was very helpful. A wire basket was found. I put some pine branches into the basket to make this nest safe and comfortable. I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down.
Now all that was needed were the parents, but they were absent. I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. These advertise the presence of chicks to adults; they might also encourage our chick to start calling as well. I gave the owner as much information as possible and headed home to see what news the night might bring.
A nervous night to be sure, but sometimes the spirits of nature smile on us all! The homeowner called to say that the parents had responded to the recordings. I drove over and saw the chick in the nest looking healthy and active. And it was accompanied in the nest by the greatest sight of all — LUNCH! The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so.
24. What is unavoidable in the author’s rescue work according to paragraph 1?
A. Efforts made in vain. B. Getting injured in his work.
C. Feeling uncertain about his future. D. Creatures forced out of their homes.
25. Why was the author called to Muttontown?
A. To rescue a woman. B. To cure a young owl.
C. To look at a baby owl. D. To take care of a woman.
26. What made the chick calm down?
A. The new nest. B. Some food. C. A recording. D. Its parents.
27. How would the author feel about the outcome of the event?
A. It’s unexpected. B. It’s beautiful. C. It’s humorous. D. It’s discouraging.
C
Getting hugged by someone you care about can be a wonderfully encouraging experience. Research has shown that hugs can strengthen our social connections, improve our emotional state and reduce feelings of loneliness and sadness. They can even help to lower stress levels and improve our health.
Unluckily, not everyone has the chance to receive hugs whenever they need them. So, how can this problem be solved? One idea that scientists have suggested is developing social robots that can hug people. These robots could probably offer lonely people the positive benefits of getting hugged without the need to know a person who hug them.
However, creating a hug robot that is well received by people and leads to positive feelings and reduced stress is no simple task. For example, if the robot is too large or has a design like something intimidating, people may feel uneasy about hugging it. Therefore, it is important for researchers to carry out further studies to ensure that hug robots are designed in a way that supports acceptance and comfort.
A recent study published in International Journal of Social Robotics focused on the development of Moffully-Ⅱ, a newly developed hug robot. It looks like a large, human-shaped teddy bear and stands at two meters tall. During a hug, it is able to move its arms and perform different gestures (手势). Copying the actions that humans usually do during hugs, such as tapping someone on the back, is necessary for making the hug feel real.
During the study, volunteers who received hugs from Moffully-Ⅱ showed a preference for hugs with gestures over those without gestures. They sensed the robot as friendlier and safer when it performed gestures, and they found the hugs to be more enjoyable in general.
While some people may feel uncomfortable with the idea of hugging a robot instead of a human, hug robots show possibilities for improving the well-being of those who are short of hugs. This includes persons in nursing homes who may benefit from the comforting effects of hugs, even if they are provided by a robot.
28. What is one of the possible benefits of receiving hugs?
A. Increasing loneliness. B. Lowering emotional state.
C. Controlling social connections. D. Reducing stress and improving health.
29. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “intimidating” in paragraph 3?
A. terrible B. cool C. friendly D. convenient
30. What can we learn about Moffully-Ⅱ according to the study?
A. It is as small as a common teddy bear.
B. Volunteers liked its hugs with gestures better.
C. It can talk to volunteers while hugging them.
D. Most volunteers felt uneasy when hugging it.
31. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Are You Ready to Hug a Robot?
B. Is It Strange for Robots to Give Hugs?
C. Are Robots Good at Giving Comforting Hugs?
D. Do Robot Hugs Feel the Same as Human Hugs?
D
There used to be four common life stages: childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. Now, there are at least six: childhood, adolescence, odyssey(奥德赛), adulthood, active retirement and old age. Of the new ones, the least understood is odyssey: the decade of wandering that frequently happens between adolescence and adulthood.
During this decade, 20-somethings go to school and take breaks from school. They live with friends and they live at home. They fall in and out of love. They try one career and then try another. Their parents grow increasingly anxious. They understand that there’s bound to be a transition phase(过渡期) between student life and adult life. But when they look at their own grown children, they see the things are being delayed. They see that people in this age group are delaying marriage. They’re delaying having children. They’re delaying lifelong employment.
Actually, this transitional period is a sensible response to new conditions. Young people grow up in tightly scheduled childhoods, but then graduate into a world characterized by uncertainty, diversity and searching. Old success methods don’t apply, new rules have not been formed and everything seems to give way to a less long-lasting type of itself. Marriage gives way to just living together. Having children gives way to keeping pets. The job market is changeable.
The odyssey years are not about being lazy. There are great pressures as vast numbers of people are chasing(追逐) relatively few opportunities. Moreover, surveys show that people living through these years have highly traditional desires (they rate parenthood more highly than their own parents did). Actually, what we’re seeing is the creation of a new life phase, just as adolescence came into being a century ago.
And as the new generational structure forms, social businessmen will create new customs and rules. Someday people will look back and wonder at the vast social changes brought by the rising social group.
32. What is a feature of people in the odyssey phase?
A. They welcome changes. B. They dislike living alone.
C. They are in an unsettled state. D. They have the most job opportunities.
33. What leads to the appearance of odyssey?
A. Outdated traditions. B. An uncertain adult world.
C. Lack of success in childhoods. D. Newly made rules and approaches.
34. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about concerning the odyssey years?
A. Its nature. B. Its effects. C. Its importance. D. Its development.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards the odyssey phase?
A. Critical. B. Encouraging. C. Understanding. D. Doubtful.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Green exercise is a term used to describe any type of physical exercise that takes place in a natural environment, rather than in a health club or gym. 36 Instead, it relies on the use of natural means of taking part in activities that improve strength and endurance with as little reliance on equipment as possible.
37 For example, some consider a truly natural exercise experience requires that the individual wear clothing only made from natural fibers. Others consider barefoot (赤脚的) running or walking would be greener and thus be more desirable than running or walking with shoes.
A slightly different approach to green exercise puts more stress on fresh air, sunshine, and involvement with the natural world, rather than the equipment or clothing. 38 Similarly, climbing a mountain using standard equipment and protective clothing would also be considered green exercise.
Many consider green exercise helps to reconnect human beings with the natural world. The interaction with nature helps to lower people’s blood pressure, refresh their mind, and actually improve their self-esteem (自尊). 39
Not everyone believes that green exercise is more beneficial than working out in a health club or gym. 40 Meanwhile, the use of fitness devices may result in more challenging workouts, which help strengthen the heart and lungs in ways that more simplistic exercise in a natural setting would be difficult to manage.
A. All forms of green exercise are good for you.
B. A green gym uses as little equipment as possible.
C. Spirits are also believed to be positively affected.
D. Opinions on what truly green exercise means differ.
E. So riding a bicycle in a forest can be called a type of green exercise.
F. Besides, it usually doesn’t use fitness equipment that is normally found in a gym.
G. Some point out that many health clubs are constructed to make full use of natural light.
