Others went to the city library to search for all photos and notes. We spent much time on these materials to show the moving stories. We made simple and beautiful posters. We drew pictures and recorded the stories we collected. We worked carefully and learned a lot about the value of traditional culture. Finally, we held a small exhibition in our school hall so that we could share our findings with teachers and classmates. Through this project, I learned that old buildings are not just old. They hold memories and stories. We should value and protect our traditional culture. Our school held many wonderful activities. Last term, I joined a special history project with my classmates.

Persons of “Touching China” bring us warm power with their strong will in common life. Pang Zhongwang is such an inspiring role model. On August 16, 2025, he was named one of the “Touching China’s 2024 Persons of the Year”. His story, from a poor boy facing many difficulties to a role model, has touched and encouraged many people.
Pang was born into a very poor family. His father has a mental illness, and his mother who was born with a serious back problem, could hardly move. Pang himself has had heart disease since his birth. To help his mother, he once walked around the village to borrow money for her treatment and even picked up old things to sell for money. But no matter how hard life got, Pang stayed happy. He always believed that studying hard could change his life.
In 2017, Pang entered Tsinghua University with top scores. At first, he worried he might not do well, but he soon found his passion (激情) in scientific research. Even when experiments failed many times, he kept trying. His mother always told him to stay strong. “My mom smiles every day — why should I be sad?” he once said.
Unluckily, his mother passed away in 2020, just before he got the chance to study for a doctorate (博士学位) at Tsinghua. Today, he has published many important research papers. He hopes to use science to help the country. It’s a dream he works hard for every day.
As the award said, “You leave difficulties behind, face life with a smile, and keep moving forward.” Pang’s story teaches us that with courage and hope, we can all get over challenges and shine brightly.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), China is using AI and robots in the field of elderly care, offering new ways to work out the challenges of an aging population. The latest data shows that China’s population aged 60 and above reached 310 million by the end of 2024. It makes up about 22 percent of its total population. A large number of elderly people bring great pressure to traditional elderly care services, so AI technology is playing an important role.
Although elderly care robots are still in the early stage compared to industrial robots, some users have already begun to experience the convenience (便利) they offer. To serve the users better, China helped create the first international standard for elderly care robots, setting strict rules for their design and safety.
In Shenzhen, elderly care robots are widely used in nursing homes. They play chess with the old, give simple treatment, and help old people with movement. “These robots improve our lives and show us new ideas,” said Li Xipo, a nursing home director. During the Spring Festival, special robots even helped elderly people climb mountains, showing their great potential in making our lives better.
Other cities are also using elderly care robots. In Shenyang, a patient learned to walk again with the robot’s help. In Chengdu, a companion (陪伴) robot named Yang Yang wakes the old each morning and reminds them of their daily activities. Soon, more elderly care robots like Yang Yang will enter the market.

Our earth is facing many environmental problems. Desertification (沙漠化) is one of the serious problems. Today more than 20% of land is desert, but this is growing year by year. There is a picture, for example, from a cave in Algeria It shows cows and people working on the land. The area was very green, and plants and grass grew there. Many types of animals lived there. The picture is more than three thousand years old. Today, the cave is in a dry desert. Why are the deserts growing? There are three main reasons for land desertification.
One reason is climate. The climate changed and rain did not come every year. The sun was very hot and all the water in the land disappeared slowly. Without enough water, green land could not stay alive.
Another one is animals. For hundreds of years, people who lived near deserts kept goats. Goats like eating plants. They ate the plants, and there weren’t any plants to stop the wind. When the wind blew, it blew all the good soil away. Soon, there wasn’t any good soil and it was very difficult for plants to grow back. Once the top rich soil is gone, the land will turn into desert quickly.
The third is people. People cut down trees, so no trees stopped the wind. Also, in some countries, people wanted to make electricity. They changed the direction of the rivers and they built dams (堤坝). This changed the direction of the water underground in other countries. Human activities greatly influence the balance of nature.
In many places this is a very big problem. In the Sahel in Africa, thousands of people died between 1968 and 1974 because there was no water. Lots of local people lost their homes and farmland as deserts spread. We have to be very careful about what we do to nature. Small actions can make a big difference to protect our earth.

It is believed that government support and progress in AI will push the development of elderly care robots. In the future, the care robots will be able to predict health risks and provide proactive (主动的) care just like family members.
