Dear Frank,
I’ve just moved to a new school in America, and everything feels so different. The teachers speak so fast, and my classmates already have their own friends. I’m worried that I won’t fit in (融入). I don’t know who to ask for help. Besides, I have poor memory. I forget new words easily. Sometimes I even forget what the teacher said just hours ago. What should I do?
Yours,
David

Dear David,
I’m sorry to hear that. Getting used to a new environment is never easy, but things will get better.
Ask your teachers if you don’t understand something. They will be happy to help. For making friends, try joining a club or sports team. It’s a great way to meet people with similar interests.
As for memory, don’t worry too much. When you feel worried or tired, it’s harder to remember what you’ve learned. Try to keep a notebook to write down new words and key points from each class. Go over them for five minutes before you go to bed. Also, don’t forget to get enough sleep and eat well.
You’re stronger than you realize. Give yourself time to get used to it. You’ve already taken the first step by asking for help.
Yours,
Frank

“It’s not that piercing (穿透) through the Tianshan Mountains is easy, but that on the other side of the mountains lie the people.” These touching words belong to Dilinur Tursunjan, a tour guide from Xinjiang.
Dilinur grew up in Artux, a small city at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. In the past, Dilinur spent 18 hours travelling from Artux to Urumqi for college. Then, in December 2025, everything changed. The 22.13-km Tianshan Shengli Tunnel opened to traffic. Thanks to this, Dilinur’s trip home now takes five hours less than before. Dilinur said with a smile, “It makes home so much closer.”
As a guide, Dilinur loves telling the tunnel’s story to her tourists. Her eyes light up as she talks about the builders. “They worked at over 4,000 metres above sea level, fighting thin air, freezing cold and falling rocks,” she said. “They went all out to bring the dream to life. It was about improving people’s lives rather than simply breaking records.”
Ms Lin first noticed Dilinur online. She joined her tours in northern Xinjiang in October 2025 and southern Xinjiang in March this year. During her stays, she recorded Dilinur’s touching speech, and the video got very popular online. Dilinur even invited Ms Lin and her family to her home for a traditional meal. As they departed, they expressed hope for a third trip.
Stories like this remind Dilinur why her work matters. For her, the tunnel is more than a road; it’s a bridge connecting hearts. She hopes to use her voice to show the world the real, beautiful, and developing Xinjiang.
20. How long does it take Dilinur to travel from Artux to Urumqi now?
A. About 5 hours. B. About 13 hours. C. About 18 hours.
21. Why does Dilinur often share the tunnel’s story with tourists?
A. To show its builders’ effort. B. To introduce its basic information. C. To show her love for it.
22. What does the underlined word “departed” probably mean?
A. Arrived. B. Left. C. Returned.
23. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The development of traffic B. A warm welcome to Xinjiang C. A shorter road, a closer heart

You might think enjoying a happy memory is just a nice feeling. But science shows it actually benefits your brain in deep ways.
When you experience happiness, your brain sends out dopamine (多巴胺) and serotonin (血清素). These not only make you feel good right away, but also help to build up brain connections for that happy memory. Your brain can change and grow all through your life. Each time you recall a happy moment, you restart those same brain connections, like exercise for your brain. This keeps your brain strong and healthy. Research shows that people who often recall positive memories can get over negative experiences more quickly.
Besides these brain benefits, recalling happy memories creates an emotional resource you can use at any time. Think of it as your own emotional safety net. When you recall joyful moments, you are fully immersing (沉浸) yourself in positive experiences. This simple practice reduces stress and cheers you up, even during hard times. Happy memories also help balance your thinking when life gets difficult. A hard day feels easier to deal with when you remind yourself of beautiful moments you’ve experienced. As people age, many of them value meaningful memories more. These emotional treasures become more and more valuable over time. They bring comfort (慰藉) and remind you of your true self. This sense stays strong, no matter how your body changes.
So, recalling happy moments is not just fun. It’s a powerful tool for keeping the brain healthy. By collecting and recalling joyful experiences, you’re improving brain connections and building a stronger mind. Start today, and your brain will thank you for years to come.
24. What happens to your brain when you feel joy?
A. It reduces brain connections. B. It creates a safety net for the body. C. It produces dopamine and serotonin.
25. Why does the writer compare recalling happy memories to exercise?
A. Because both make you healthier. B. Because both are difficult to start. C. Because both need special tools.
26. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. Enjoying good moments is a difficult skill.
B. Happy memories are emotional resources.
C. Happy memories make physical pain disappear.
27. What is the main purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To introduce new discoveries about the brain.
B. To compare different ways of keeping the brain healthy.
C. To show the value of happy memories and call for action.

China has been carrying out its “toilet revolution” for years. Now, toilets across the country have seen quiet changes.
At Changbai Mountain in Jilin, there’s a special public toilet. Though in a busy scenic area (景区), the toilet is beautiful and practical. Both men’s and women’s sections include nearly everything a tourist might need. Besides toilet paper and hand dryers, they even provide drinking water and heating. “Although it’s freezing outside, it’s warm inside,” said one tourist.
In Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, the Qingcheng Rest Spot has improved its public toilet too. It has accessible toilets (无障碍厕所), a baby care room, a drinking room and even a reading area. Such designs help Hohhot reach its goal of making everyone use toilets easily.
Besides the two places mentioned above, many families in the countryside are leaving their old toilets behind. The Chen family from Wuhan is one example. “Our toilet used to be so smelly that you could hardly stand near it,” Chen said. “On rainy days, my grandfather would even fall over on the rough and muddy roads around it.” But now, everything has changed. Their new bathroom is tiled. “We can even take a shower and wash clothes in it,” Chen said happily.
