I’d never heard of it, but all of the other options were sequels (续集) or Christmas movies. Flow had a great trailer (预告片), excellent reviews, and won many awards. I was told. It is about the adventures of a black cat, a yellow dog, and several other animals that band together to survive a catastrophic flood. There are no people in the film. In fact, there is no dialogue at all in the hour and a half. You would think that a movie without any human characters or dialogue would be boring. Well, Flow is anything BUT. On the contrary, I was often on the edge of my seat, terrified for the danger these little guys faced. They’re constantly escaping enemies and rising water. Eventually, our black cat finds himself in a new land. At the start of the movie he is alone, but by the end he is surrounded by new friends. What, if anything, does this movie “mean”? Clearly, one of the basic themes is unity — different species that initially don’t get along eventually learn to help each other survive. But I think the fact that humans are completely absent seems intentional. The animals pass through run-down, abandoned towns, implying that humanity may have been wiped out by a disaster. Combined with the flood, this suggests a metaphor about climate change and sea level rise. The movie’s metaphors are subtle: water is an ever-present symbol in the film, and it is constantly flowing forward, pushing the action and our characters. With the title literally named Flow, temporariness seems to be the main message: things constantly changing, the world moves on. We often can’t control storms of life. What we can control are our own actions. You can choose to fight the current or go with it and make the best of what you find down river. Or it could mean something else completely different to you! Like the best poems, this movie is open to multiple interpretations. 4. What initially motivated the author to watch the film Flow? A. Recommendations from strangers. B. Its positive reception and many awards. C. Curiosity about an unknown movie. D. Its unique theme concerning animals. 5. Which of the following is a distinctive feature of Flow? A. It involves more than human characters. B. It contains no spoken dialogue. C. It is a short animation within 90 minutes. D. It is primarily a Christmas-themed story. 6. In the author’s opinion, what does humans’ absence from the film imply? A. The loss of humanity. B. The difficulty of survival. C. The unpredictability of life. D. The unity of diverse species. 7. Where is the text probably from? A. A textbook on animation. B. An eco-tour journal. C. An editorial on global warming. D. An entertainment website. B 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段中“Flow had a great trailer, excellent reviews, and won many awards. I was told.(Flow有精彩的预告片、极佳的口碑,还斩获了许多奖项。我是听说的)”可知,作者最初是被这部电影的良好反响和众多奖项所吸引才去观看的。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“In fact, there is no dialogue at all in the hour and a half.(事实上,在这一个半小时里,电影完全没有对白)”可知,没有任何口头对话是该片最鲜明的特色。 根据第四段中“The animals pass through run-down, abandoned towns, implying that humanity may have been wiped out by a disaster.(动物们穿过了破败荒废的城镇,暗示人类可能已被一场灾难消灭)”可知,作者认为人类在影片中的缺席暗示了人类的覆灭。 C An ancient Latin proverb says “Aquila non capit muscas” — eagles don’t hunt flies — meaning that important ones shouldn’t concern themselves with small, insignificant matters. But the lions in East Africa should concern themselves with the seemingly insignificant ants, because these ants are changing their lifestyles. The story starts with the acacia trees (金合欢树) in an African wildlife area in central Kenya. Some of these acacia trees provide food and shelter for specific ant species, which in turn defend the tree against herbivores The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves. This is highly effective; the ants not only physically harm the herbivores but also release chemicals that can deter other potential attackers. But these ants are in trouble. Another species called the “big-headed” ant is destroying entire groups of tree-protecting ants. This, in turn, sets off an entire chain of events that ends up influencing when and how lions can hunt. This ant invasion (入侵) affects one thing after the other. It leaves the acacia trees defenseless against herbivores especially elephants. The elephants come in and eat the acacias at five to seven times the rate observed in uninvaded areas. The lions, while hunting for food, have no more trees to use for hiding. This reduced tree cover makes lions less successful at hunting and pushes them to find different areas to hunt in. “These tiny invaders are pulling on the ties that put an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,” said Todd Palmer, an ecologist from Florida. The lions, which are already endangered, are managing to cope with this by no longer focusing their attention on zebras. The zebras, of course, can see them much better on the approach given the lack of cover. Instead, they are targeting water buffalo. But this also isn’t the end of the story. Who knows what the lions’ changing strategy will mean for the ecosystem down the line? 8. What does the underlined word “deter” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Direct. B. Discourage. C. Identify. D. Seek. 9. What role do the elephants play in the chain reaction? A. Cooperating with “big-headed” ants. B. Damaging the hiding place for lions. C. Protecting the acacias from herbivores. D. Starting off the disturbance of the chain. 10. The author mentions lions, zebras and water buffalo to show that ________. A. animals fall victim to bigger ones B. the ecology is on the road to recovery C. animals are correlated in the ecosystem D. species are firmly positioned in the food chain 11. Which of the following is probably the best title for the passage? A. How ants and buffalo defeated lions. B. How elephants landed zebra in trouble. C. How trees changed lions’ dinner menu. D. How tiny ants affect the way lions hunt. B 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“The ants are actively attacking and driving away herbivores that attempt to feed on the tree’s leaves. This is highly effective; the ants not only physically harm the herbivores but also release chemicals that can deter other potential attackers.(蚂蚁会主动攻击并驱赶那些试图啃食树叶的食草动物。这种防御方式效果显著;蚂蚁不仅会对食草动物造成物理伤害,还会释放化学物质,以deter其他潜在的入侵者。)”可知,蚂蚁对合欢树具有保护作用,蚂蚁不仅会对食草动物造成物理伤害,还会释放化学物质,以威慑其他潜在的入侵者。由此猜测deter意为“阻止”,与discourage同义。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第四段中“This ant invasion (入侵) affects one thing after the other. It leaves the acacia trees defenseless against herbivores especially elephants. The elephants come in and eat the acacias at five to seven times the rate observed in uninvaded areas. The lions, while hunting for food, have no more trees to use for hiding.(蚂蚁的入侵影响了一件又一件事。这使得金合欢树无法抵御食草动物,尤其是大象。大象吃金合欢的速度是未被入侵地区的5到7倍。狮子在寻找食物的时候,没有更多的树可以用来躲藏。)”可知,在食物链中大象破坏狮子的藏身之处。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“But these ants are in trouble. Another species called the “big-headed” ant is destroying entire groups of tree-protecting ants. This, in turn, sets off an entire chain of events that ends up influencing when and how lions can hunt.(但是这类护树蚂蚁遇到了麻烦。另一种叫做“大头蚁”的物种正在大批消灭护树蚂蚁。这进而引发一连串连锁反应,最终影响狮子捕猎的时机和方式。)”、倒数第二段““These tiny invaders are pulling on the ties that put an African ecosystem together, determining who is eaten and where,” said Todd Palmer, an ecologist from Florida.(来自佛罗里达州的生态学家Todd Palmer说:“这些微小的入侵者正在拉动非洲生态系统的纽带,决定谁被吃掉,在哪里被吃掉。”)”和最后一段中“The lions, which are already endangered, are managing to cope with this by no longer focusing their attention on zebras. The zebras, of course, can see them much better on the approach given the lack of cover. Instead, they are targeting water buffalo.(已经濒临灭绝的狮子正在设法解决这个问题,不再把注意力集中在斑马身上。斑马,当然,可以更好地看到它们靠近,因为缺乏掩护。相反,它们的目标是水牛。)”可知,蚂蚁的入侵导致金合欢树大量被吃,使得狮子在狩猎时失去掩护,这导致以斑马为主食的狮子转而猎杀水牛。由此推知,作者提到狮子、斑马和水牛是为了说明动物在生态系统中是相互关联的。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据文章第一段“But the lions in East Africa should concern themselves with the seemingly insignificant ants, because these ants are changing their lifestyles.(但是东非的狮子应该关注这些看起来微不足道的蚂蚁,因为这些蚂蚁正在改变它们的生活方式。)” “How tiny ants affect the way lions hunt.(微小的蚂蚁如何影响狮子的捕猎方式)”符合题意。 D Think of how many surfaces you touch daily, from your work desk to the bus handrails and your phone screen. Viruses can easily spread via these surfaces. Infection typically occurs by touching a contaminated (污染的) surface — and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Now a team of researchers led by Elena Ivanova created a thin plastic surface with tiny nanoscale features, billionths of a metre in size, that copy the nanostructured surface of insect wings and can physically burst viruses the moment they land. Current methods for preventing virus spread via surfaces usually involves cleaning and disinfection. Disinfectant must remain wet for some time to kill bacteria. This can be challenging in some real-world settings. Surfaces can also be recontaminated quickly when touched by others. And disinfection often requires harsh chemicals which can damage equipment and the environment. Nature offers examples of bacteria-free surfaces, such as the thin water-resistant wings of dragonflies. While these wings are self-cleaning, they act less by pushing bacteria away and more as natural bacteria killers. Experiments the team did with gold-coated wings, which resemble the wings of dragonflies, confirmed this bacteria-killing effect is not driven by surface chemistry, but rather by the physical nanostructures on the surface which essentially force bacterial cell walls to stretch and burst. In this new study, the researchers created a virus-bursting material that was lightweight and flexible: a thin plastic film covered in thousands of tiny pillars (柱子). These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force. The mould (模具) they used to create this material can be easily scaled for industrial use, from food packaging to hospital equipment and office desks. Nanostructured surfaces are built for durability. But they will degrade over time under physical, chemical, and environmental stressors. Much remains to be discovered in the search for bacteria-free surfaces. But these nanostructured surfaces have enormous potential in the fight against viruses and provide an alternative to traditional methods. 12. What does paragraph 2 focus on? A. The impact of chemicals. B. The risk of recontamination. C. The challenges of cleaning. D. The disadvantages of disinfectants. 13. What determines the bacteria-killing effect of dragonflies’ wings? A. Their surface structure. B. Their physical composition. C. Their exceptional thinness. D. Their water-resistant property. 14. What is paragraph 4 mainly about regarding the material? A. Its key components. B. Its working principle. C. Its potential applications. D. Its production process. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Killing Bacteria: The Role of Chemicals B. Plastic Film Stops Viruses from Sticking C. Preventing Infection: The Magic of Nature D. Nanopillars Tear Apart Viruses on Contact 【答案】12. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段“Current methods for preventing virus spread via surfaces usually involves cleaning and disinfection. Disinfectant must remain wet for some time to kill bacteria. This can be challenging in some real-world settings. Surfaces can also be recontaminated quickly when touched by others. And disinfection often requires harsh chemicals which can damage equipment and the environment.(目前通过物体表面预防病毒传播的常用手段,通常包括清洁与消毒。消毒剂必须在表面保持湿润一段时间,才能杀灭病菌。这在一些实际应用场景中很难做到。物体表面一旦被其他人触碰,还会很快再次受到污染。而且消毒过程往往需要使用刺激性强的化学药剂,这类药剂还会损坏设备、破坏环境。)”可知,第二段主要介绍传统消毒剂及消毒方式存在的各类弊端。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Experiments the team did with gold-coated wings, which resemble the wings of dragonflies, confirmed this bacteria-killing effect is not driven by surface chemistry, but rather by the physical nanostructures on the surface which essentially force bacterial cell walls to stretch and burst.(该团队利用仿蜻蜓翅膀结构的镀金翅片开展实验,证实这种杀菌效果并非由表面化学作用驱动,而是源自表面的物理纳米结构;这类纳米结构会从根本上迫使细菌细胞壁拉伸并破裂。)” 根据第四段“These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force.(这些纳米柱会抓住并拉伸病毒外壳直至使其破裂,依靠机械力杀灭病毒。)” 通读全文特别是根据第一段“Now a team of researchers led by Elena Ivanova created a thin plastic surface with tiny nanoscale features, billionths of a metre in size, that copy the nanostructured surface of insect wings and can physically burst viruses the moment they land.(如今,由埃琳娜·伊万诺娃带领的一组研究人员研发出一种带有微小纳米级结构的薄塑料表层,其尺寸仅为十亿分之一米;该表层复刻了昆虫翅膀的纳米结构表面,病毒一旦落在上面,就会被物理方式裂解。)”以及第四段“In this new study, the researchers created a virus-bursting material that was lightweight and flexible: a thin plastic film covered in thousands of tiny pillars (柱子). These nanopillars grab and stretch a virus’s outer shell until it bursts, killing viruses through mechanical force.(在这项新研究中,研究人员研制出一种可裂解病毒的轻质柔性材料:一种布满数千根微型柱体的塑料薄膜。 As the college entrance examination was approaching, I was under great pressure in senior three. His father, now in his seventies, had run the place for decades but never offered delivery — there wasn’t enough help, and he was too tired. Wanting to bring something new while keeping the old spirit, Tom started a free delivery service for the elderly and busy neighbours. As he looked for delivery riders, one person came to mind: Mike, his deaf neighbour who stayed home making small crafts. Jobs were hard to find for Mike, and Tom knew he needed steady work. He went to Mike’s house and showed him a note: “Come work with me. Be my delivery rider. Good pay.” Mike read it, eyes wide, then nodded firmly. The first day he worked, Mike checked each order twice before leaving. He’d already spent days studying the neighbourhood map and cycling around to learn the quickest routes. But problems came quickly. On his last delivery that evening, he knocked loudly on a customer’s door — trying to get attention without speaking. The resident complained about the noise and rudeness. Later that week, while biking through the market, a hurried pedestrian stepped into his path. Mike fell, and the food spilled. Unable to explain, he rushed back for a new meal. By the time he arrived — nearly 40 minutes late — the customer was very angry. He refused the food and shouted at Mike, who could only stand there, silent and helpless. That evening, Mike sat alone, head down, feeling he’d let Tom down. When Tom knew what happened, his heart sank — not with anger, but with guilt. He’d wanted to help, yet never truly thought about Mike’s challenges: the silence, the misunderstandings, the moments when being unable to speak left him defenseless. Tom knew he had to do more than offer a job — he needed to help Mike do well. He soon came up with a plan to help Mike. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Mike took a deep breath and smiled as the angry customer opened his door. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 He soon came up with a plan to help Mike. Tom prepared a set of small cards explaining Mike’s condition in simple, friendly language: “Hello! I’m Mike. I’m deaf and can’t speak, but I’m happy to be your delivery rider. Thank you for your patience.” He also set up a simple text system on Mike’s phone, allowing him to quickly send pre-written messages to customers with just a tap. That evening, he showed Mike how to use both, walking him through each step with patience. Mike practised handing over the card with a smile until it felt natural. The next day, Mike went back directly to the same door, determined to clear up the misunderstanding. Mike took a deep breath and smiled as the angry customer opened his door. Before the man could react, Mike handed him the card with both hands. The customer frowned, glanced down, and read it slowly. Then his expression changed — first softening, then clouding with shame. He looked at Mike, who quickly showed the pre-written message on his phone, explaining the earlier accident. The man stood silent for a moment, then nodded, took the food, and gave Mike a sincere thumbs-up, mouthing a silent “Sorry — and thank you.” As Mike walked back to his bike, he looked down at the card and smiled to himself. This small piece of paper had given him something he thought he never had: a voice. 词类激活 行为类 ①解释,说明:explain/illustrate ②使能够:allow/enable ③递:hand/deliver 情绪类 ①开心的:happy/delighted/thrilled ②真诚的:sincere/genuine/earnest 【点睛】【高分句型1】He also set up a simple text system on Mike’s phone, allowing him to quickly send pre-written messages to customers with just a tap. 2】 He looked at Mike, who quickly showed the pre-written message on his phone, explaining the earlier accident.(运用了who引导非限制性定语从句和现在分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语期中测试 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段录音。 1. B This weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the Latvian animated film Flow in the theater. C An ancient Latin proverb says “Aquila non capit muscas” — eagles don’t hunt flies — meaning that important ones shouldn’t concern themselves with small, insignificant matters. D Think of how many surfaces you touch daily, from your work desk to the bus handrails and your phone screen. A. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
