Many people used to believe that crying means weakness, especially for men. However, holding back tears can harm our bodies, while sometimes crying actually helps us relax and stay healthy.
Scientists did research on tears. At first, they asked volunteers to watch a sad movie and collected their tears. Secondly, they made the same people cry by cutting onions. The results were very different. Tears from sadness can take away harmful chemicals If the chemicals stay in our bodies for too long, they may cause heart and blood problems. But tears from cutting onions can’t.
More studies show that crying also creates another helpful chemical. This chemical helps wounds heal (愈合) faster. In fact, the more a person cries after getting hurt, the sooner he or she will recover. So crying is not that bad. It is natural medicine for our bodies.
Anybody may meet difficulties or feel sad from time to time. We do not need to pretend (假装) to be strong. Remember that people who allow themselves to cry are healthier.
So, just let tears drop when you feel down!
36. How did scientists make the volunteers cry in the second experiment?
A. By reading a book. B. By cutting onions.
C. By watching a sad movie. D. By listening to music.
37. What will happen if harmful chemicals stay in our bodies for too long?
A. People will feel very happy. B. People will cry more often.
C. They may bring heart and blood problems. D. They will help wounds heal faster.
38. What does the word “recover” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Get better. B. Get worse. C. Get excited. D. Get hurt.
39. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Tears from onions have harmful chemicals. B. Tears can always be good for eyes.
C. Crying when you are sad is good for health. D. Crying is always bad.
40. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. How to Control Our Feelings B. Why We Keep Our Feelings Secret
C. Hiding Feelings Is Necessary D. Let Tears Drop When You Feel Down
B 37. C 38. A 39. C 40. D
根据第二段中“Secondly, they made the same people cry by cutting onions.”
根据第二段中“If the chemicals stay in our bodies for too long, they may cause heart and blood problems.”
根据第三段中“This chemical helps wounds heal faster.”
根据第一段中“while sometimes crying actually helps us relax and stay healthy”以及全文内容可知,难过时哭泣对健康有益,因此C选项表述正确。

根据上文A问“How are you these days?”,此处B应回答自己的近况。选项A“Not bad.”
I took part in a running race.”,说明A的问句是一般疑问句且涉及参加项目。选项G“Did you take part in any events?”,能直接引出B的回答,符合对话衔接。
A问B“Did you win?” F“I only got the fourth place.”,表明未获胜,与上文“Did you win?”
根据“ I was a little sad when I learned about the result.”可知,B表达得知结果后的失落,A应该先安慰,再补充“After all, you had an unforgettable experience.”
根据上文A说“Wish you good luck next time.”,面对他人的祝福,礼貌的回答应该是表示感谢。
