Unit 4 Stage and screen Understanding Ideas
When Hamlet Meets Peking Opera 作业设计
外研版高中英语必修第二册
一、Homework Task 1写作
题目要求:Write a short review (about 100 words) of The Revenge of Prince Zidan using at least four expressions from the text.
参考范文
A Night That Ticked All the Right Boxes
Last Friday, I watched The Revenge of Prince Zidan, the Peking Opera version of Hamlet, and it was an unforgettable experience. Starting with an orchestra playing traditional Chinese instruments, the opera brought a completely new sound to my ears. The costumes and masks were amazing, and the performers' movements were so dazzling and energetic that I sat on the edge of my seat the whole time. Though the stage was really simple, it transformed the small stage into the whole universe. Combining music, singing, drama and poetry with explosive effect, this show truly ticks all the right boxes. Don't miss it!
范文使用的课文短语(4 处以上):
1. a completely new sound
2. be amazing
3. dazzling and energetic
4. transformed...into...
5. ticks all the right boxes
写作要点提示:
结构:总体评价(1 句)→ 唱腔音乐(1–2 句)→ 服饰与动作(1–2 句)→ 舞台艺术(1 句)→ 总结推荐(1 句)。词组须自然嵌入句中,不可生硬堆砌;建议每词组各成一处,前后加自己的观点。时态:记述观感用过去时,评价用一般现在时。
二、Homework Task 2
题目要求:Find one more example of tradition meeting innovation in art, and share it next lesson.
示例 1:数字敦煌(Digital Dunhuang)
A good example of tradition meeting innovation is the Digital Dunhuang project. The Mogao Caves hold murals that are over a thousand years old, but visiting them used to be limited in order to protect the paintings. Now, with high-definition photography and 3-D modelling, people can enjoy the murals online and even "walk through" the caves in virtual reality. Modern technology protects the ancient art and, at the same time, brings it to millions of viewers around the world – just as Peking Opera uses new ways to tell an old story.
要点:传统(千年壁画)+创新(数字采集、VR 展示)→ 保护与传播双赢,可联系课文"小舞台变全宇宙"的表达。
示例 2:故宫文创与《只此青绿》
Another example is the dance poem drama Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting, which is based on the Song Dynasty painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains. The dancers' movements copy the hills and rivers in the painting, and modern stage lighting turns the whole theatre into a landscape. Through this creative form, an ancient painting has come alive on stage, and more young people have begun to love traditional Chinese art.
要点:传统(宋代名画)+创新(舞蹈诗剧、现代舞美)→ 让古画"活"起来。
分享提示:按"是什么(what)— 传统元素(tradition)— 创新之处(innovation)— 我的感受或推荐(feeling or recommendation)"四步组织 1–2 分钟口头分享,可准备一张图片配合展示。

Think & Share: The Sound
Why is the jinghu so important in Peking Opera?
1. It follows the singer's voice like a conversation.
2. Its high, bright sound expresses joy, anger and sorrow.
3. It sets the rhythm for every movement on stage.
Music without words can still tell a story. Do you agree? Why?

Critical Thinking
Should traditional art forms change with the times, or
stay exactly as they are?
Side A — Keep it pure
Changing the form may lose the original spirit. Classic art should be protected, not remixed.
Side B — Let it grow
Art that never changes slowly disappears. New forms bring new audiences and new life.
Work in pairs · Choose a side · Give at least two reasons
Post-reading: Your Stage
Group work — design a "fusion performance":
1
Choose one Western story your group knows well.
2
Choose one traditional Chinese art form to present it.
