The leaves on many plants also use this code.
The Fibonacci Sequence is very useful. People use it in many fields like physics, biology, and computer science. Here’s how it starts: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, ________, 34…Can you find the next numbers? The secret is: each number is the sum of the two numbers before it.
24. What does the underlined word “them” refer to (指代)?
A. The leaves. B. The plants. C. The petals. D. The numbers.
25. Which number can be put into the underlined part “________”?

How many steps should you walk each day to stay healthy and live a long life? Many people believe the magic number is 10,000 steps. However, a study shows that fewer steps can be just as good, especially if you are 60 or over.
The idea of walking 10,000 steps came from a Japanese company selling a device (设备) to count steps back in 1965.The company called it the “Manpo Metre”, which means the “10,000-step metre”. Walking 10,000 steps is a well-known daily walking goal, but scientists say it isn’t a rule.
Scientists looked at 15 studies with nearly 48,000 people. They found that the more the people walk, the longer they live. However, older and younger people need different numbers of steps. For people over 60, walking more than 6,000 to 8,000 steps a day doesn’t make the risk (风险) of early death go down any more. For people between 18 and 59, the risk stops going down after 8,000 to 10,000 steps.
The scientists also grouped people according to their step count. The lowest group walked about 3,500 steps every day, and the highest group took about 10,900 steps every day. The people in the group doing the most steps had a 40% to 53% lower risk of early death than those who walked the least.
The scientists said that knowing the best number of steps for different ages could help give better advice for staying healthy.
27. How does the writer start to talk about the “magic number” of steps?
A. He tells stories. B. He uses pictures.
C. He gives an example. D. He asks a question.
28. Where did the idea of walking 10,000 steps come from?
A. A book on health. B. A Japanese company.
C. A scientist’s study. D. A player’s daily routine.
29. How many steps each day are enough for people over 60 to cut down the risk of early death?
A. 10,900 steps. B. 6,000 to 8,000 steps.
C. 8,000 to 10,000 steps. D. 10,000 to 12,000 steps.
30. Which of the following questions does the writer answer in Paragraph 4?
A. Does walking more steps help people live longer?
B. Is walking the only way to help people stay healthy?
C. Is the group of people who walked the least steps unhealthy?
D. Does the number of daily walking steps change people’s lives?

How can you remember numbers quickly? Have you ever used your fingers to count numbers or do you have any other ways to count them? In fact, numbers are important in our daily lives.
Many people think numbers and maths are the same all over the world, but scientists found that it was not true. People in different parts of the world use their fingers to count and the ways they use are different. In the United States, people begin counting with their first finger, and they use the rest of their fingers to count to five. Next they do this again with the other hand to get to ten. In China, people count by using different finger positions (位置). In this way, a Chinese person can easily count to ten on only one hand.
Besides the ways of counting, scientists have found that cultures and languages are also different when we talk about numbers. Some languages have only a few words for numbers, and others have no words for numbers. For example, some people in Australia don’t have any hand movements to stand for numbers. They don’t even have any words for numbers. However, they are still able to understand different ideas about numbers.
We need to use numbers in our daily lives, so numbers appear. Now we know numbers and maths are different all over the world.

It refers to “____________”.
52. What did the scientists find in the second paragraph?
