Maya came to China from Toronto in March. She had read about Chinese festivals in a thin school book. The Dragon Boat Festival still felt far away. Then Grandma Li put a big bowl of rice on the table and said, “Today we wrap zongzi.”
The rice was so sticky that it held Maya’s fingers together. She tried to fold the bamboo leaf the way Grandma did. Her first zongzi looked like a small, tired pillow. Grandma only laughed and pushed a plate of dates toward her. “The taste will still be sweet,” she said. Maya’s host brother sat opposite them and counted the finished ones, as if he were keeping score.
In the afternoon it rained hard, so they did not walk to the river. They sat on the sofa and watched the dragon boat race on television. Maya had thought a dragon was something to fear. On the screen, the “dragon” was only a long boat full of people. The drums kept them moving as one team from the first bend to the finish.
“Why do they race?” Maya asked. Grandma told her the story of a poet, and of rice thrown into the river. Maya did not remember every name. She understood one thing: people do this so that they will not forget someone they love.
When the rain stopped, they ate the ugly zongzi together with hot tea. “Being in the same room,” Grandma said, “matters more than the shape.” Maya took a photo of the two plates. She would send it home and write: I know this festival now, not from a book, but from a kitchen table. The smell of the leaves stayed on her fingers until evening. She washed the bowls and hummed the drum tune from the race.

A.The rain was too heavy.
B.Maya was afraid of water.
C.The boats were too far.
D.Grandma lost the tickets.
24.What mattered more, according to Grandma?
A.The shape of zongzi.
B.Sitting together.
C.Winning the boat race.
D.Sending photos home.
25.What did Maya learn that day?

B.Dragons are real animals.
C.Rain ruins every big festival.
D.It lives at the table.

C
Got the wrong size from an online shop? Don’t send a long, angry message first. A short, clear phone call often works better, and it saves both sides a lot of time.
Before you call, find your order number and one photo of the problem. Write two short sentences about what is wrong. Put the number on a piece of paper next to the phone. If you speak too fast and put three different complaints into one long breath, the worker may miss the one fact that can really start the repair.
When the call begins, say your name and the order number first. Then describe the problem in slow, short sentences. Do not mix the size, the color and the delivery into one breath. If you can, add the day you received the item and what you hope they will do next.
While you listen, note down the worker’s name, the time, and the next step they promise. A few words on paper will help you if you need to call again tomorrow. One clear note is more useful than a long but messy memory that fades as soon as you put the phone down.
Most shops will give you an answer in two or three days if your words are calm and complete. Stay polite even if you feel upset. Keep the photo on your phone until the new item arrives. Remember: you are not trying to win a fight, but to make the problem easy to see.
26.What should you do before the call?
A.Write a long letter.
B.Find the order number.
C.Visit the shop at once.
D.Post an angry photo.
27.What may happen if you speak too fast?
A.You get a big free gift.
B.The shop closes the phone line.
C.The price goes down fast.
D.The worker misses the key fact.
28.What does the underlined phrase “note down” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Sing a short song.
B.Throw the paper away.
C.Write a few words.
D.Read the menu aloud.
29.What should you write down during the call?
A.The worker’s next step.
B.Your favorite color.
C.The shop’s old address.
D.A joke you heard.
30.What is the best title for the passage?
A.How to Buy Cheap Clothes B.How to Win Every Argument
C.How to Take Better Photos D.Clear Phone Calls for Problems
【答案】26.B 27.D 28.C 29.A 30.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章说明网购出问题后如何打电话把情况说清楚:先备单号、慢说要点、记下工号与下一步。

D
When you travel, an AI translation app can turn a street sign or a menu into your own language in a second. For a tired visitor who cannot read a single Chinese character, that small box on the phone feels like a quiet friend at the next table.
The app is good at names of stations, opening hours, and simple dishes. You point the camera, wait one second, and the words appear. Some apps can even read the sign aloud, which helps when the street is dark and the print is small.
However, the app does not know the place the way a local person does. A joke on a shop sign, or a dish name that comes from an old story, may come out misleading if the app only knows the separate words. “Lion’s head” is not a lion, and “ants climbing a tree” is only noodles with a little meat. If you order by the English line alone, you may get a surprise you did not want.
A better plan is to treat the app as a first guess, not as the only answer. Ask the waiter, look at the pictures on the wall, or show the Chinese line with your finger. Keep the translation, but keep your eyes open too.
Remember: the app can read the sign, but you are still the traveler who must decide.
31.What can an AI translation app do well?
A.Cook a full meal.
B.Pay the waiter.
C.Read station names.
D.Drive you to a hotel.
32.Why can’t you trust the app fully?
A.It always costs too much.
B.It may misread special names.
C.It never works at night.
D.It cannot open the camera.
33.What does the underlined word “misleading” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Making people laugh.
B.Helping you walk faster.
C.Giving the wrong idea.
D.Showing a clear map.
34.What is “lion’s head” in the passage?
A.A dish name.
B.A real lion.
C.A street sign.
D.A kind of tea.
35.What is a better plan for the app?
A.Treat it as a guess.
B.Follow every English line.
C.Never open the camera once.
D.Ask the app to order food.
【答案】31.C 32.B 33.C 34.A 35.A
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍旅行中用AI翻译路牌和菜单能帮什么、为何不能全信,并建议把它当作第一猜测而非唯一答案。
31.细节理解题。根据第二段中“The app is good at names of stations, opening hours, and simple dishes (这款应用擅长识别站名、开放时间和简单菜名)”可知,AI翻译软件能较好地识别站名。故选C。
32.细节理解题。根据第三段中“A joke on a shop sign, or a dish name that comes from an old story, may come out misleading (店招上的玩笑或来自旧故事的菜名,译出来可能造成误解)”可知,特殊名称可能被误读,所以不能完全相信软件。故选B。
33.词义猜测题。根据第三段中“‘Lion’s head’ is not a lion (‘狮子头’并不是一头狮子)”可知,软件可能给出错误理解,misleading意为“误导的、让人理解错”。故选C。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段中“‘Lion’s head’ is not a lion, and ‘ants climbing a tree’ is only noodles with a little meat (‘狮子头’不是狮子,‘蚂蚁上树’只是带一点肉的面条)”可知,lion’s head是菜名。故选A。
35.细节理解题。根据第四段中“A better plan is to treat the app as a first guess, not as the only answer (更好的办法是把软件当作第一次猜测,而不是唯一答案)”可知,应把翻译结果当作初步参考。故选A。

Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】例文:
Dear Maya,
Thank you for your letter. I am glad to answer your three questions about the Dragon Boat Festival. I hope my words will make the day feel closer to you.
People race dragon boats to remember a great poet named Qu Yuan. The boats move as one team, and the drums keep everyone together from start to finish. We eat zongzi because the old story says people threw rice into the river to keep fish away from him. The rice is wrapped in leaves, so it smells fresh and holds together.
You do not need special clothes by the river. A clean T-shirt and a pair of comfortable shoes are enough. If you like, you may wear something red for good luck. Write back if you need more details. I hope you will enjoy the festival with us next June.
Yours,
Li Hua

21.What was Maya’s first zongzi like?
A.Round and red.
B.Like a tired pillow.
C.Too hard to eat.
D.Big and perfect.
22.What does the underlined word “sticky” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Cold and rather hard.
B.Dry and very light.
C.Holding together.
D.Too salty to eat.
23.Why did they watch the race on television?
A.The rain was too heavy.
B.Maya was afraid of water.

D.Grandma lost the tickets.
24.What mattered more, according to Grandma?
A.The shape of zongzi.
B.Sitting together.
C.Winning the boat race.
D.Sending photos home.
25.What did Maya learn that day?
A.Books are always enough.
B.Dragons are real animals.
C.Rain ruins every big festival.
D.It lives at the table.
