When he was 17, Lin dreamed of becoming a skilled calligrapher. He begged Mr. Wang, his teacher, to teach him, and the teacher agreed — on one condition: Lin had to plant a bamboo seed and look after it every day until it grew tall. Although confused, Lin decided to do it at his teacher’s request.
Every morning, Lin watered the seed and loosened the soil. Two weeks passed, but there was no sign of life. Gradually, Lin became impatient. “Mr. Wang, why am I wasting time on a seed that may not grow?” he complained.
The teacher smiled, “To grow a bamboo, we need patience. It may take several months before it finally breaks through the soil. If you rush it, you might destroy it. Calligraphy is the same — you are supposed to practice every day, even when you couldn’t see any progress, to develop your skills.”
Lin kept the teacher’s words in mind. He continued to take care of the seed, and practiced calligraphy day after day. After three months, a tiny green shoot came out from the soil. At the same time, his calligraphy was improved — his strokes (笔划) were smoother, and his characters were nicer. Lin finally realized: patience is not about waiting for results, but about sticking to something with all your heart, even when progress is slow.
31. How did Lin feel about Mr. Wang’s request?

33. What is the key to building calligraphy skills according to the text?
A. Making a rush. B. Waiting for results.
C. Practicing patiently. D. Growing a bamboo.
34. Which is true according to the text?
A. Mr. Wang loved bamboo. B. Lin became a top calligrapher.
C. Mr. Wang was satisfied with Lin. D. Lin made progress in calligraphy.
35. What does the writer want to tell us?
