Scientist Margaret Morris studied mice’s memory. She found that some mice had better memories because they ate low-fat and healthy food. Some mice often ate junk food such as cakes, meat pies, and chips, and they were more forgetful.
This can happen to people too. “If you like eating junk food and don’t eat enough fruit and vegetables,” Morris said, “the changes in your stomach may make your brain not work well.” Scientists found the brain talks with the stomach. Recently, they have found that the stomach talks back. It may even tell the brain what to do.
In the stomach, there are tiny living things-bacteria. Together, they make up the microbiome (菌群). They help us digest (消化) food and send messages to our brain. Most salty and sugary foods can make these good bacteria in our stomach go away. This can make us feel not so good and maybe even sad.
Another scientist Rob Knight, suggests eating yogurt because it has healthy bacteria. Does that mean no hamburgers? “Having them sometimes is okay,” Knight says.“ But there are no really healthy benefits if you often have them. Being good to your microbiome is a lot more important than what you ate yesterday, or what you eat tomorrow.”
14. How does the writer start the text?
A. By giving facts. B. By telling stories. C. By showing numbers.
15. What kind of mice can have better memories?
A. Mice that have healthy food.
B. Mice that like junk food.
C. Mice that often have meat pies.
16. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 likely refer to?
A. The stomachs. B. The community of good bacteria. C. Our brains.
17. How can we “be good to our microbiome” according to the text?
A. Have hamburgers as often as possible.
B. Say no to yogurt from now on.
C. Eat less salty or sugary food.
【答案】14. A 15. A 16. B 17. C

【17题详解】
推理判断题。原文第三段“Most salty and sugary foods can make these good bacteria in our stomach go away.”,高盐高糖食物会让有益菌消失,想要善待菌群就要少吃这类食物;原文第四段“Another scientist Rob Knight, suggests eating yogurt because it has healthy bacteria.”以及“But there are no really healthy benefits if you often have them.”,说明可以吃酸奶、汉堡不能经常吃。

阅读短文,根据短文内容,完成下列各题。
What is a dream? Scientists explain that during sleep time your brain reviews your experiences in the day. It tries to connect your new experiences with the old memories. As your brain connects things, it turns them into a story, and then you get a dream.
Dreams may help you deal with worries and fears. What has happened during the day may be painful. While you are sleeping, however, the brain will replay the painful memories in a safe dream space. There the bad memories become less painful. And you will feel better after waking up.
Dreams also seem to be able to help you learn. This idea is supported by a study. So scientists advise you not to stay up all night studying, especially when an exam is coming. They say a sweet dream might help you get higher marks.
Dreams may make you more creative too. It was reported that a famous songwriter came up with his best song in a dream, and wrote it down as soon as he woke up. However, dreams alone can’t bring about creativity. In fact, the songwriter spent a lot of time thinking about the song before the dream. In a word, hard work matters more for creativity, though dreams also have a role to play.
18. When does the brain review your experiences in the day?
_____________________________________________________
19. How many advantages of dreams are mentioned in the passage?
_____________________________________________________
20. What plays a more important part in creativity, dreams or hard work?
_____________________________________________________
21. Will you stay up late to study before exams? Why?
_____________________________________________________
【答案】18. During sleep time.
19. Three. 20. Hard work.
21. No, I won’t. Because dreams can help me study well. And enough sleep is good for my health.
