B I started my first sewing class when I was 10 years old. Despite the fact that I grew up sewing with family members, it was left on the sidelines as my life took on new interests and challenges. I didn’t own a sewing machine (缝纫机), so my sewing ideas and projects got filed under “when I have time and a sewing machine in the future”. I rarely got around to them. Years ago, I decided that I would do my best not to buy new things, especially clothes. What started as a no-buy challenge led to finding the joy and excitement again, which I experience when I engage in crafts like darning (缝补). While I had sewing experience, darning was new to me. I got my first darning needles at a local shop called Spun to practise darning some old socks with holes. The people working there told me about community meetings that they host for people who like darning. A few days later, I came back because I was eager to show someone how my first darning project turned out. They gave me the biggest smile and praise for what I achieved. What I discovered was not just a way to save my clothes or a new skill, but a community of darning lovers who are excited to welcome new people so they can experience darning and crafting together. The interest alone was enough for one to gain access and many were eager to help out beginners and share the joy, driving away the loneliness and anxiety about lacking skills. I have darning projects that I am embarrassed about, but the quality does not matter, especially for a beginner. You can always begin with small tasks on clothes you only wear at home, not forcing yourself to complete them without faults. It’s all about taking a moment to think about the objects you own and adopting a practice of not throwing something away without considering a way of darning creatively. 4. What made the author start darning? A. Experiences in a sewing class. B. The access to a sewing machine. C. Memories of family members. D. The determination to stop purchases. 5. Why did the author return to Spun? A. To learn darning from others. B. To get more darning tools. C. To present her darning progress. D. To join a darning community. 6. What does the author think of the darning lovers according to paragraph 4? A. Friendly and enthusiastic. B. Inspiring but lonely. C. Creative and hardworking. D. Professional but modest. 7. What does the author advise beginners to do? A. Focus on the quality. B. Reuse clothes cautiously. C. Practise darning at home. D. Accept the imperfections. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第二段中的“Years ago, I decided that I would do my best not to buy new things, especially clothes. What started as a no‑buy challenge led to finding the joy and excitement again, which I experience when I engage in crafts like darning.(多年以前,我决定要尽量不去买新物品,尤其是衣服。 根据第三段中的“A few days later, I came back because I was eager to show someone how my first darning project turned out.(几天之后,我又回到这家店铺,因为我迫切想要向别人展示自己第一次缝补作品的成果。)” 根据第四段中的“What I discovered was not just a way to save my clothes or a new skill, but a community of darning lovers who are excited to welcome new people so they can experience darning and crafting together. The interest alone was enough for one to gain access and many were eager to help out beginners and share the joy, driving away the loneliness and anxiety about lacking skills.(我所收获的不只是修补衣物的方法或是一项新技能,还有一个织补爱好者社群。 根据第五段中的“I have darning projects that I am embarrassed about, but the quality does not matter, especially for a beginner. You can always begin with small tasks on clothes you only wear at home, not forcing yourself to complete them without faults.(我也有让自己难为情的缝补作品,但质量并不重要,对初学者尤其如此。 C We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or lunch queue? Social networking sites have become virtual extensions of the school hallways, so would you add your parents as “friends” and allow them to view your online activities and conversations with friends? In the past the generation gap included a technology gap, where children were up to date with the latest technology and parents were left behind, content to continue their day-to-day lives as they always had because they had no need to be tech-savvy However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites. These days many people are attracted to social networking sites because they can choose who they have around them; there’s also a certain amount of control over privacy that we don’t get in real life. Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. It’s a difficult choice whether or not to allow a parent to become a part of our online lives. On the one hand we don’t want to “reject” their request because that might hurt their feelings or make them feel you have something to hide. On the other hand, if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before. A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to exert (运用) their independence.” Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list. 8. Why do many parents want to learn about social networking sites? A. Because they are eager to explore technologies. B. Because they start to realize their importance. C. Because they feel bored with their daily life. D. Because they want to watch their children. 9. What might be the reason for teens to reject their parents’ friend request? A. They are controlled by their parents. B. Their choice of friends is removed. C. They don’t want to teach their parents. D. Their privacy cannot be guaranteed. 10. Why is the survey mentioned in the passage? A. To comfort parents. B. To warn parents. C. To criticize parents. D. To challenge parents. 11. What is most likely to be talked about next? A. How to bridge the generation gap. B. How to make friends on social networks. C. How to explain to parents about the rejection. D. How to use the social networking sites wisely. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“However, more and more parents are beginning to realize just how important social networks are in their lives. This realization has given many parents the motivation to educate themselves about social networking sites.(然而,越来越多的父母开始意识到社交网络在他们的生活中有多么重要。 根据第三段“Sometimes we feel that privacy is violated when we must accept a “friend” request from a parent or family member. (有时当我们必须接受父母或家人的“好友”请求时,我们会觉得隐私受到了侵犯)”以及第四段“On the other hand, if you do accept, then you could have a sense of being watched and no longer feel free to comment or communicate the way you did before.(另一方面,如果你真的接受了,你可能会有被监视的感觉,不再能像以前那样自由地评论或交流)”可知,青少年拒绝父母好友请求的原因可能是他们的隐私无法得到保证。 根据第五段“A recent survey suggested that parents shouldn’t take it personally if their child ignores their request: “When a teen ignores a parent’s friend request, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are hiding something, but it could mean that this is one part of their life where they want to exert(运用) their independence.”(最近的一项调查表明,如果孩子忽略了父母的好友请求,父母不应该觉得是针对自己:“当青少年忽略父母的好友请求时,并不一定意味着他们在隐瞒什么,但这可能意味着这是他们生活中想要行使独立性的一个部分。”)” 根据最后一段“Perhaps talking with parents and giving explanations would help soften the blow when you do choose not to add them to your friends list. D When Brandon Contino and co-founder Dan Chi were developing Four Growers’ produce-harvesting robots, they practically lived in a greenhouse for an entire year. “We actually started just running everything off a laptop, and I would be there in the row coding. Chi would be making changes mechanically,” Contino, now CEO, told TechCrunch. The result was Four Growers, which builds robots designed to autonomously harvest plants in greenhouses. The robots are programmed to identify produce at the right level of ripeness — which varies depending on a farmer’s needs — by using multiple stereo cameras to see the crops and help operate the robot’s arms to avoid nonripe fruit on the vine. The tech currently works with tomatoes and will be commercially available to harvest other crops like cucumbers in the near future. Having enough labor to harvest crops is crucial because if crops can’t be harvested when they are ready, they rot and result in lost profits for the farm. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s 2024 labor report said the industry is facing a “critical shortage” of workers, and it won’t get better anytime soon. Contino said they were intentional about focusing on greenhouse farms. Unlike outdoor farms, greenhouses can grow almost all year round, and are more efficient than outside farms. They also harvest on a much more frequent schedule than outdoor farms, which makes them a good candidate to buy tech. Four Growers now works with five customers, and its robots have picked millions of tomatoes. Contino said that the company is working to expand its technology beyond just harvesting and is looking to expand into outdoor farms in the coming years. “It’s not really a labor replacement. It’s more of an augmentation (增强),” Contino said. “As the labor force shrinks, and there are fewer people willing to do it, it’s putting them to more comfortable positions and allowing one person to be able to do a lot more.” 12. What are the cameras used to do in the greenhouse? A. Identify crops’ maturity. B. Take pictures for the ripe fruit. C. Monitor the surroundings. D. Distinguish tomatoes from other plants. 13. Why does the author mention the 2024 labor report in paragraph 3? A. To express concern about the farm profits. B. To stress the necessity of harvesting robots. C. To show the achievements of Four Growers. D. To call for public support for the farm industry. 14. According to Contino, what makes greenhouse farms a better target for Four Growers? A. A wider range of crops. B. Greener than outside farms. C. A greater number of consumers. D. Higher harvesting frequency. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Autonomous Tech is Coming to Farming. B. Seed for a Farm’s Future — Farm Management. C. Four Growers Robots Help Greenhouse Harvest. D. Labor Shortages and Farmer Adaptation Strategies. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段“  The robots are programmed to identify produce at the right level of ripeness — which varies depending on a farmer’s needs — by using multiple stereo cameras to see the crops and help operate the robot’s arms to avoid nonripe fruit on the vine.(这些机器人被设定为通过多台立体相机观测作物,识别出符合农户需求的成熟度等级的农产品——不同农户对成熟度的判定标准存在差异,以此辅助操作机械臂避开藤蔓上尚未成熟的果实。)” 根据第三段“Having enough labor to harvest crops is crucial because if crops can’t be harvested when they are ready, they rot and result in lost profits for the farm. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture’s 2024 labor report said the industry is facing a “critical shortage” of workers, and it won’t get better anytime soon.(拥有足够的劳动力来采收作物至关重要,因为如果作物在成熟时无法被及时采收,它们就会腐烂,给农场造成利润损失。 根据第四段“Unlike outdoor farms, greenhouses can grow almost all year round, and are more efficient than outside farms. They also harvest on a much more frequent schedule than outdoor farms, which makes them a good candidate to buy tech.(与户外农场不同,温室农场几乎全年都可以种植作物,生产效率也比户外农场更高。 通读全文,并结合第一段中“When Brandon Contino and co-founder Dan Chi were developing Four Growers’ produce-harvesting robots, they practically lived in a greenhouse for an entire year. Picture this: everyone’s gathered around the table, plates full, but half the family stares at glowing screens instead of each other’s faces. This scene plays out in countless homes across America every single night. What started as occasional phone checks has evolved into overall device dependency that follows families right to their dining table. Remember when meals meant storytelling, laughter, and actual eye contact? ____16____ Before smartphones existed, families naturally gathered around the dining table to share their day, discuss plans, and enjoy each other’s company. ____17____ Research shows that the average American family spends less than 20 minutes eating dinner together, with much of that time spent interacting with screens. The cell phone transformed from a communication tool into a dining companion. ____18____ Unlike real conversation, screens demand attention without giving anything meaningful back to the family dynamic. The physical health consequences are equally concerning. Mindless eating becomes the norm when attention splits between food and screens. People eat faster, chew less, and often consume more calories without realizing it. ____19____ Creating a phone-free zone can transform food time from a rushed obligation into genuine family time that everyone looks forward to. When screens disappear from the table, something magical happens: People start noticing each other again. ____20____ Even the food tastes better when everyone is fully engaged in what they’re eating. A. Frankly, it’s not great company. B. Those days weren’t that long ago. C. That dinner wasn’t unique, and that’s the problem. D. Dinner conversations teach children essential skills. E. Technology has slowly but surely entered our dining spaces. F. Conversations flow more naturally and laughter comes more easily. G. This habit contributes to poor digestion and unhealthy eating patterns. 16. B 17. E 18. A 19. G 20. Niesha could not forget the way she had frozen in front of the class. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today had been Niesha’s turn. However, her hands had shaken so badly that she couldn’t read her notes. Her voice had become softer to the point of silence. Mr. Roberts had kindly ended Niesha’s part of the presentation, even though she had clearly not finished. He had also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment. “Niesha, I know you’re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Then Mr. Roberts hesitated, before saying, “If I give you another chance until tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage?” Niesha nodded, grateful for the chance. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon. When she reached the back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Mom was baking. Mom studied Niesha’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Niesha?” Tears shone in Niesha’s brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Mom was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake. “Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Mom asked. She set the timer (计时器) and then said, “Let me show you something.” Niesha followed Mom to her bedroom. There Mom showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon (丝带) that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents. “I won it for public speaking (演讲). When I started on the speech team I was quiet as a mouse, but I ended the year as the winner. It wasn’t easy at first — I wasn’t sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.” Hearing Mom’s words, Niesha gazed at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文参考 Hearing Mom’s words, Niesha gazed at the precious blue ribbon, lost in thought. She imagined the scene where her Mom tried her best to overcome her fears and pluck up her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. Perceiving Niesha’s anxiety, Mom reassured her and reached out her hand to tie the blue ribbon onto Niesha’s wrist with a disarming smile. Restored and determined, she gritted her teeth to find her courage. In front of the mirror parked Neisha continuously practicing from pronunciation to tone, even gesture. “Try harder,” she perked herself up when drowsiness fell upon her. The next day Niesha again walked to the front of the classroom to give her presentation. Shy, she customarily lowered her head and averted her gaze, numb there for seconds. Shortly afterwards, courage found its way back the moment she caught sight of the blue ribbon. Comforted and inspired, she took a deep breath, and summoned up her courage, “Dear fellow students, …” Niesha cast a glance at Mr Roberts standing in the corner smiling at her. A self-reassuring smile spread across Niesha’s face. She knew for sure that she had found her courage in the adversity. 词类激活: 行为类: 想象:imagine/picture 克服:overcome/get over 情绪类 担忧:anxiety/concern 受鼓舞的:inspired/motivated 【点睛】【高分句型1】She imagined the scene where her Mom tried her best to overcome her fears and pluck up her courage to deliver a fantastic speech to the audience. C We all love our parents and turn to them when we’re in need, but would you like them to hear the conversations you have with your friends in the school playground or lunch queue? G. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
