(本题10分)Sitting on the sofa, I started checking on my phone. It was the winter of 2017 and my best friend Jacob, 25, who I lived with, was getting on my nerves, and I on his. I needed a hobby to get me out of the house. On Facebook, I came across a beginners’ course for underwater rugby which gained appeal as a means of developing teamwork through non-verbal (非语言的) communication.
I’d always loved the water, so I went along. I was greeted by an enthusiastic coach Bobby. He got me swimming lengths on the surface, then from the top to the bottom. On the other side of the pool, advanced players were having a session. That they scored goals underwater got me excited.
Within weeks, I was playing matches. The sport was played in 3D, meaning you could pass the ball in any direction, even up and down, and opponents could come at you from anywhere. Tackles involved grabbing hold of someone to slow them down and trying to get the ball off them. Often, I’d be so engaged that I wouldn’t think about my breathing until I’d pushed myself too far. I’d then rapidly make my way to the surface for breath, hoping my teammates had taken possession.
With each game, my lung capacity increased until I could hold my breath for a full minute while playing. We formed a team called the Raiders, and in November we went to Berlin to compete against teams from other countries. It was the first Australian men’s team and although we came second-last, we had so much fun. My teammates have become close friends.
“I want to try it,” Jacob said when he saw how many new friends I had. The classes were inclusive for all levels, and he picked it up as he went. He loved it and because we were both out of the house more, we no longer got on each other’s nerves. There are now hundreds of people playing underwater rugby around Australia, ranging in age from 17 into their late 50s. So I encourage anyone who can to give it a try.

(本题10分)Have you ever wondered what astronauts eat in space and how those recipes (食谱) are developed? Every year, HUNCH challenges high schools around the world to develop delicious recipes to support astronauts in space. The HUNCH Culinary (烹饪的) Competition provides students the opportunity to create dishes for astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS). Students must create tasty recipes following a specific food processing procedure and meeting certain dietary requirements.
Each year, high schools receive a theme (主题), and students develop recipes accordingly. Then, student groups present their works to local space centers for taste tests conducted by industry professionals and center staff. After those early competitions, student teams with the highest scores from across the country are invited to Space Center Houston, which has hosted the event for 11 years. During the finals, all visitors to the center are invited to cheer on student groups.
This year’s dish theme was traditional Mexican food: tacos. Ten high school culinary teams were selected to compete in the final round of the competition, which celebrated the mix of science and culinary creativity. Their work was judged by Food Lab staff, industry professionals, the ISS program office, and astronauts based on quality, taste, research paper, and presentation video.
Space Center Houston President and CEO William T. Harris said students had to consider “the chemistry behind the dish, food preservation, and dietary needs” when making their dishes. He added that the strict limit on salt intake in space makes it difficult to achieve rich taste, so students must find other ways to season their recipes.
Through this program, students build culinary skills while developing experience in research and professional presentations. The winning dish will be processed by the Johnson Space Center Food Lab and sent to the ISS for astronauts to enjoy.
What happens to the best-performing students after the early competitions?

A.It valued taste over dietary needs.
B.It closed the final round to the public.
C.It mixed practical and academic work.
D.It required individual work in the finals.
What makes it hard to create tasty food in space?
A.The limited space for cooking. B.The low amount of salt allowed.
C.The difficulty in keeping food fresh. D.The strict food processing procedure.
What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To present challenges in space. B.To promote new food products.
C.To announce competition results. D.To introduce a cooking competition.
根据文章第二段“After those early competitions, student teams with the highest scores from across the country are invited to Space Center Houston, which has hosted the event for 11 years.(在初赛结束后,全国各地得分最高的学生队伍会被邀请至已经主办该赛事11年的休斯顿航天中心。)”
根据文章第三段“...which celebrated the mix of science and culinary creativity. Their work was judged by Food Lab staff, industry professionals, the ISS program office, and astronauts based on quality, taste, research paper, and presentation video.(……该赛事融合了科学与烹饪创造力。参赛作品会由食品实验室工作人员、行业专家、国际空间站项目办公室和宇航员根据菜品品质、口味、研究论文和展示视频进行评分。)”,结合第五段“Through this program, students build culinary skills while developing experience in research and professional presentations.(通过该项目,学生们在锻炼烹饪技能的同时,也积累了研究和专业展示的经验。)”

(本题10分)Second place is just the first loser. While the competitive spirit may be as natural as breathing air, it doesn’t always lead to human flourishing and can create misery. Fortunately, there is a formula to solve this problem: instead of always going for gold, shoot for the bronze.
Though second place may be the first loser, third place can be the real winner regarding happiness and longevity. In a 1995 study, scholars systematically coded the emotional reactions of silver and bronze medalists in the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. Using slow-motion footage captured both immediately after their events and later on the awards podium (领奖台), researchers found the bronze winners appeared consistently happier on average than the silver medalists. Over 80% of bronze medalists exhibited genuine smiles, a figure that was nearly double that observed among silver medalists. Moreover, every bronze medalist’s smile lasted longer than the average smile observed among the silver medalists. More recent research has looked at the life span of all three medalist categories. A 2018 study found that the athlete whose best performance was silver lived to 72. Gold medalists beat this by four years, living to 76. But first prize in longevity went to the bronze medalists, who lived to 78.
The study had a handy explanation for this discrepancy: “Unsatisfactory competition outcomes may adversely affect health.” In other words, silver medalists see themselves as the first loser because they look up to the top step and compare themselves only with the gold medalists, whereas the bronze winners compare themselves favorably with all the others who never made it onto the podium at all. This theory shows the difference between upward and downward social comparison.
The worldly happiness strategy of striving for gold every day is foolish. It tends to lower the intrinsic motivation, and thus enjoyment that people obtain from their activities. The principle at work here is trying to improve your own past performance and the only person to whom you will have to compare yourself is you.
What can be learned from the 1995 study?
A.Both medalists’ emotions were unchanged from the events to the podium.
B.Silver medalists smiled as frequently as bronze medalists.
C.Bronze medalists’ smiles lasted longer than every silver medalists.
D.Bronze winners appeared happier than silver medalists.
What is the cause of the difference in medalists’ life span?
A.The stress from downward social comparison.
B.The effect of different types of social comparison.
C.The motivation from upward social comparison.
D.The failure to look up to the top after the competition.
What does the writer advise us to do to achieve happiness?
A.Learn from the top performers.
B.Strengthen our achievement motivation.
C.Try to be the best in every field.
D.Commit to our consistent personal growth.
Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Social Comparison: A Double-Edged Sword for Athletes
B.Coming in Third: The Advantages of Being “Good Enough”
C.Coming in Third: The Unexpected Secret to Longevity
D.Social Comparison: The Root of Misery in Human Competition
根据第二段中“Using slow-motion footage captured both immediately after their events and later on the awards podium (领奖台), researchers found the bronze winners appeared consistently happier on average than the silver medalists. (通过分别在比赛刚结束时以及之后颁奖台上拍摄的慢镜头,研究人员发现铜牌获得者平均来看始终显得比银牌获得者更开心。)”可知,该研究发现铜牌得主看起来比银牌得主更快乐。
33.细节理解题。根据第三段中“In other words, silver medalists see themselves as the first loser because they look up to the top step and compare themselves only with the gold medalists, whereas the bronze winners compare themselves favorably with all the others who never made it onto the podium at all. This theory shows the difference between upward and downward social comparison. (换句话说,银牌得主把自己视为第一失败者,因为他们仰望最高领奖台,只与金牌得主比较;而铜牌得主则会和所有根本没能站上领奖台的人进行更有利的自我比较。这一理论显示了向上社会比较与向下社会比较之间的差异。)”可知,这种寿命差异的原因在于不同社会比较类型的影响。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“The principle at work here is trying to improve your own past performance and the only person to whom you will have to compare yourself is you. (这里适用的原则是努力提升你过去的表现,而唯一需要与之比较的人,就是你自己。)”可知,作者建议我们致力于持续的个人成长。
35.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Fortunately, there is a formula to solve this problem: instead of always going for gold, shoot for the bronze. (幸运的是,这个问题有一个解决方法:与其总是追求金牌,不如争取铜牌。)”可知,文章基于奥运奖牌研究,指出获得铜牌的优势,建议采纳铜牌代表的人生智慧——满足于“足够好”,并专注于自我成长。因此,“获得第三名:‘足够好’的优势”最契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。
(本题12.5分)The Winter Olympics will introduce several new events, with ski mountaineering making its first appearance as a new sport. Known as “skimo”, it requires athletes to hike up a mountain before skiing down. Three events will be held: a women’s sprint, a men’s sprint, and a mixed relay. The competition will take place in Bormio, Italy, at the same site used for Alpine skiing.
Other new events are also being added. These are variations of existing sports and aim to give more athletes, especially women, a chance to compete. One such event is dual moguls Two skiers compete side by side on a bumpy course, performing aerial (空中的) tricks. 36(2.5分) Traditional moguls have been part of the Winter Games since the 1990s.
This event pairs one man and one woman from the same country. They race down an ice track head-first on a small sled. This format adds a new dynamic to the sport.
This year also marks the first time women’s doubles luge will appear. 38(2.5分) They race down the track feet-first on the same sled. This event highlights the importance of teamwork.
It’s not easy for teams to qualify for the Games. The U.S. team narrowly qualified for the Games in a high-stakes race in Utah in early December. 39(2.5分) The pressure was intense, as it was the last chance for teams to earn Olympic ranking points.
These additions show the Winter Olympics’ commitment to evolution and inclusion. 40(2.5分) They also bring fresh excitement to the Games, attracting new audiences and showcasing the athletes’ skills.
A.Another new event is mixed team skeleton.
B.Two women from the same country team up on a single sled.
C.Athletes must navigate sharp turns and maintain high speeds.
D.Ski mountaineering requires both endurance and technical skill.
E.Both men’s and women’s dual moguls will be featured this year.
F.This was the final opportunity for teams to secure their spot in the Olympics.
G.They offer a platform for athletes to demonstrate their abilities in new formats.

At his old school, Rohan was always picked first. He was the best dribbler (运球者) and fastest runner, and every team hoped to have him on their side. However, at his new school in Pune, none of that seemed to matter. Nobody here had ever seen him play before.
“Trials are Thursday,” his new coach, Mr. Subramaniam, said on his first day. “Everyone starts equal.” Rohan almost laughed. He’d never had to try out for anything in his life.
Thursday came, and so did a surprise. There was a boy named Vihaan who could read the game better than anyone Rohan had ever played with — always in the right space, always one step ahead, even though he wasn’t particularly fast or showy. Rohan, used to being the obvious star, found himself constantly a half-second behind. He misjudged a pass, then another. By the end of trials, he wasn’t sure where he stood anymore.
The team list was posted on Friday morning. Rohan scanned it twice before he found his name — not in the starting eleven, but on the bench. Second string (替补队员). “You’ll get your chance,” Mr. Subramaniam said, noticing his face. “Use practice this week to learn from Vihaan. He sees things most boys your age don’t.”
Rohan wanted to feel annoyed. Instead, watching Vihaan during practice that week, he found himself actually paying attention — really watching, the way he didn’t need to at his old school. He noticed Vihaan checking his shoulder before every pass. He noticed how he never panicked, even under pressure, just moved the ball simply and smartly to someone better placed. By watching and learning from this teammate, he discovered a new way of playing.
By Saturday’s match, Rohan came on as a substitute in the second half, his team down by one goal.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
He didn’t try to be the star this time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
But Vihaan jogged over, smiling broadly, and embraced Rohan warmly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
He didn’t try to be the star this time. He checked his shoulder, the way Vihaan did. He found the meaning of the simple pass instead of the showy run. He felt a connection with his team, knowing exactly when to pass, when to make his decisions. With ten minutes left, he slipped a quiet, perfectly timed pass through to a teammate, who scored a goal that was important in helping them turn the game around. People at the gym cheered for the teammate loudly. Nobody noticed Rohan. Nobody chanted his name.
But Vihaan jogged over, smiling broadly, and embraced Rohan warmly. “Good ball,” Vihaan said. “Learned it from you,” Rohan said, and meant it completely. Rohan no longer cared about being the center of attention as he used to. Walking side by side with Vihaan off the field, he sincerely told Vihaan he owed the brilliant assist to his guidance. Walking home that evening, Rohan realised something: being the best had once felt like the whole point. Being useful, it turned out, felt better.
①注意:notice/pay attention to
②意识到:realise/be aware of
①真诚:sincerely/genuinely
②欢呼:cheer/hail

C.The motivation from upward social comparison.
D.The failure to look up to the top after the competition.
What does the writer advise us to do to achieve happiness?

(本题12.5分)The Winter Olympics will introduce several new events, with ski mountaineering making its first appearance as a new sport. Known as “skimo”, it requires athletes to hike up a mountain before skiing down. Three events will be held: a women’s sprint, a men’s sprint, and a mixed relay. The competition will take place in Bormio, Italy, at the same site used for Alpine skiing.
Other new events are also being added. These are variations of existing sports and aim to give more athletes, especially women, a chance to compete. One such event is dual moguls
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
He didn’t try to be the star this time. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
