It’s a funny, heartwarming story of a group of theater-loving women who decide to perform an all-female version of William Shakespeare’s play, while all the men are away fighting in World War II. We’ll be looking for six girls to play the female parts, ranging from young women to old ladies. There are also a couple of male parts: Alexander Ford and Joe White. The original play was set in the U.S. , but our writers decided to move the action to Australia, so we could use our own accents. There are passages of Shakespeare throughout the play, for which we’ll use British accents. Tryouts are on Friday. You’ll be asked to read a scene from the play, as well as perform a short Shakespeare speech. I hope to see you all there!

(本题10分)I thought I knew a lot about Hamlet. As a high school student with English literature as one of my main subjects, I have to! Shakespeare’s Hamlet is probably the most important play by the most important writer in English. Almost everybody knows “To be, or not to be”, right? Having seen quite a few productions of Hamlet and read the play many times, I was full of confidence-until the Peking Opera came to town!
Dating back to the 18th century, Peking Opera has over two hundred years of history. Does this mean it’s easier than a Shakespeare play to understand? To find out the answer, I just had to go and see The Revenge of Prince Zidan — the Peking Opera version of Hamlet.
...The costumes and masks were amazing. The performers of course sang in Chinese, but the music, exaggerated movements and mime helped get the meaning across to the audience. The voices themselves sounded really unique-some of the female voices were so high that I was sure they could break glass! And the stage was really simple: a decorated whip represented a horse, and a screen with Chinese characters, a study. Using such techniques, the opera had transformed a small stage into the whole universe. Easily my favourite part of the show was how the characters moved on stage. I had never seen Prince Hamlet do a backflip before! That was simply incredible. It was so dazzling and energetic that I wasn’t sure if the characters were performers or athletes!
Before experiencing The Revenge of Prince Zidan, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it. But, in fact, I was on the edge of my seat! Feeling the strong emotions of love, anger, fear and grief in the performance, I could easily recognize theme of Hamlet. So, if you want to see a show that combines music, singing, drama, poetry and costume design with explosive effect, The Revenge of Prince Zidan ticks all the right boxes.
Why was the writer full of confidence?
A.He had read much about Peking Opera before.
B.He came from the same country as Shakespeare.
C.He thought he had a good knowledge of Hamlet.
D.He knew various operas in the world.
Which was the favourite part about the performance?
A.Its explosive effect. B.The traditional Chinese instruments.
C.The characters’ movement on stage. D.The story itself.
As a Westerner, how could the writer understand and enjoy the performance?
A.With the help of other audience mumbers. B.Through the music, movements and mime.
C.Through the performers’ costumes and masks. D.By observing the audience’s reactions.
What is the relationship between Shakespeare’s Hamlet and the Peking Opera version?
A.The two operas had the same theme.
B.They came from the same story in history.
C.The Peking Opera version was adapted from Hamlet.
D.The two operas used almost the same techniques.

(本题10分)Beaverton is home to a large group of hair-covered, wood-chewing creatures. The mayor decides their forest should be removed for a highway. Mabel, a teenage activist, is angry about this. After she discovers a project allowing her to transfer her awareness into a robotic animal, she befriends the creatures and encourages them to fight with teeth and nails.
This is the fun setting of the film Hoppers. Animation films (动画电影) are typically aimed at small children, but they are hugely popular with audiences of all ages. In 2024, Inside Out 2 became the highest-earning animated film of all time, taking $1.7 billion globally. In early 2025, it was overtaken by Ne Zha 2, which went on to earn over $2 billion. Zootopia 2, released later that year, made $1.9 billion. How did animation become such a draw?
One reason is that storytellers have aimed for wide appeal. Many animated films touch on universal themes — the struggles of growing up or the experience of losing a loved one. The best movies usually follow the “22 Rules for Storytelling” created by a Pixar artist. She advised focusing on characters and emotion. Viewers admire a character for trying more than for their successes.
Another factor is animation’s global reach. Such films generally avoid unsuitable content (内容). They also translate well across cultures, with fantastic settings or simple ideas that are not culturally specific. Characters’ faces are also stylised and expressive.
Also, distributors (经销商) have chosen the time wisely. The biggest animated films are released during school holidays. In 2022, 44% of animated films from top American studios went straight to streaming; in 2025 just 8% did. “A trip to the cinema is an easy win for parents who want to get their children out of the house,” says an industry analyst.
Moreover, clever scriptwriters include jokes for adults to enjoy — with or without kids together. Film series tap into nostalgia (怀旧) too. Audiences become less interested when studios go too far from these rules. It turns out to be a great idea to work with animals and children.
How does the author lead into the topic?
A.By listing box office data. B.By comparing hit movies.

What matters most in Pixar’s “22 Rules”?
A.Hot topics for all age groups. B.Rich storyline and social meaning.
C.Perfect and successful endings. D.Figures’ emotions and personalities.
What does the author highlight about animated films in the last two paragraphs?
A.Their global influence and great popularity.
B.Their content features and release strategies.
C.Their wise balance between traditions and box office.
D.Their cultural adaptability and comments received.
【答案】28.C 29.A 30.D 31.B
根据第一段中的“Beaverton is home to a large group of hair-covered, wood-chewing creatures. The mayor decides their forest should be removed for a highway. Mabel, a teenage activist, is angry about this. After she discovers a project allowing her to transfer her awareness into a robotic animal, she befriends the creatures and encourages them to fight with teeth and nails. (比弗顿是一大群浑身长毛、啃咬木头生物的栖息地。市长决定清除它们的森林来修建公路。少女活动家梅布尔对此感到愤慨。当她发现一项能够将自身意识转移到机器动物身上的项目之后,她与这些生物结交,鼓励它们拼命抗争。)”和第二段第一句“This is the fun setting of the film Hoppers.(这是电影《霍珀斯》的有趣场景。)”
根据第二段中的“In 2024, Inside Out 2 became the highest-earning animated film of all time, taking $1.7 billion globally. In early 2025, it was overtaken by Ne Zha 2, which went on to earn over $2 billion. Zootopia 2, released later that year, made $1.9 billion.(2024年《头脑特工队2》成为史上票房最高动画电影,全球收获17亿美元;2025年初被《哪吒2》超越,票房突破20亿美元;同年晚些上映的《疯狂动物城2》取得19亿美元票房。)”
根据第三段中的“The best movies usually follow the “22 Rules for Storytelling” created by a Pixar artist. She advised focusing on characters and emotion. Viewers admire a character for trying more than for their successes.(最优秀的电影通常遵循由皮克斯一位艺术家制定的“22条讲故事法则”。她建议要聚焦人物与情感。观众敬佩一个角色,更多是因为其不懈努力,而非其所取得的成功。)”可知,皮克斯22条讲故事准则最看重人物的情感与性格特质。
31.推理判断题。根据第五段中的“Also, distributors (经销商) have chosen the time wisely. The biggest animated films are released during school holidays.(另外,经销商明智地选定了上映时间。最大的动画片都在学校假期期间上映。)”以及第六段中的“Moreover, clever scriptwriters include jokes for adults to enjoy — with or without kids together.(而且,聪明的编剧会加入可供成年人欣赏的笑话——不论是否和孩子一同观看。)”
(本题10分)Shakespeare’s plays were so popular in the 16th and 17th centuries because they were good — and because they were cheap. Productions at the Globe, the cultural landmark of London, saw audiences crowd in, with the cheapest “seats” being no seats at all, but standing places in the “pit (观众观演池)” below the stage. Few complained, even as their knees no doubt protested (抗议), thanks to the quality of what unfolded in front of them.
When the Globe reopened in 1997, the £5 “groundling” ticket was big news, giving theatre-goers the ability to stand as Shakespeare’s working-class people once did. The same holds true in 2025: standing tickets are still only £10, or £5 if you book early enough, and the theatre remains as impressive and wonderful as ever. This summer’s Romeo and Juliet, for instance, is full of life. The audience roars with laughter at all the right moments. It is very different from the miscommunication and heavy-handed teaching at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) that has put generations of students off Shakespeare.
For Michelle Terry, the artistic director at Shakespeare’s Globe, making theatre accessible is extremely important to turning around opinions, and the cheap tickets certainly help. The pricing, Terry believes, gives audiences the chance to make up their mind about Shakespeare without pressure. The low entry fee gives audiences “the right to have an opinion”. “You can say, I am not having a good time, and I can afford to leave,” she says.
While access for all is the goal, the team are aware of the role that Shakespeare plays in the national curriculum (课程) and make every effort to ensure as many students as possible can see its plays. Each year it tries to programme at least one of the GCSE texts, and in 2023-24 more than 120,000 students visited the Globe to see Shakespeare live, 26,000 of them for free.
School visitors aren’t the only ones eager to see Shakespeare. Today the Globe truly lives up to its name, with a third of visitors last year coming from abroad, from 147 different countries. For Terry, bringing people together from all walks of life is central to making theatre accessible — especially in today’s world.
Why would the audience accep
t watching a play while standing?
A.The audience could get free tickets by standing.
B.It provided the most comfortable view.
C.Performances were truly excellent.
D.It was a popular way to show support to actors.
What has turned many students off Shakespeare according to the text?
A.Few funny moments in shows. B.The poor way it is taught in class.
C.High price of theatre tickets. D.Old style of Shakespeare’s plays.
What does the underlined word “accessible” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Easy to enjoy and attend. B.Simple to understand fully.
C.Worth high public praise. D.Free from negative comments.
What does the Globe’s current visitor mix mainly reflect?
A.Local people’s great love. B.Wide global popularity.
C.Cheap ticket advantages. D.School education influence.
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.B
根据第一段中的“Productions at the Globe, the cultural landmark of London, saw audiences crowd in, with the cheapest “seats” being no seats at all, but standing places in the “pit (观众观演池)” below the stage. Few complained, even as their knees no doubt protested(抗议), thanks to the quality of what unfolded in front of them.(环球剧院是伦敦的文化地标,剧院上演剧目时观众蜂拥而至。最便宜的“座位”根本没有座椅,只是舞台下方“观众观演池”里的站立区域。尽管观众的膝盖无疑会叫苦,但几乎没人抱怨,只因眼前上演的剧目足够精彩。)”可知,观众愿意站着看戏是因为表演本身十分精彩。
33.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“It is very different from the miscommunication and heavy‑handed teaching at General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) that has put generations of students off Shakespeare.(这和普通中等教育证书课程中对作品内容的错误传达与生硬僵化的教学截然不同,正是这种教学让一代又一代学生对莎士比亚产生抵触。)”
根据第三段中的“For Michelle Terry, the artistic director at Shakespeare’s Globe, making theatre accessible is extremely important to turning around opinions, and the cheap tickets certainly help.(对莎士比亚环球剧院艺术总监米歇尔·特里而言,让戏剧accessible对于扭转大众看法至关重要,低价票对此大有帮助。)”
根据第五段中的“Today the Globe truly lives up to its name, with a third of visitors last year coming from abroad, from 147 different countries.(如今环球剧院名副其实,去年三分之一的游客来自海外,涵盖147个不同国家。)”
(本题12.5分)Watching a film critically is a skill worth developing because it helps you learn what makes a film good according to your own tastes. What makes the early films of a director great fun while the later ones a total mess? 36(2.5分) Here, we take a look at how you can watch films more critically.
Give the film your undivided attention at least once. Filmmakers accept that they won’t always have their audience’s undivided attention. Significant plot points will be highlighted with incidental music so that you focus. 37(2.5分) Try, just once, to watch the film as they intended.
Consider the themes the film explored. Picking out the themes and assessing how the film treats them is a central point of film criticism. It might be an uncomfortable allegory (讽喻). 38(2.5分) For instance, The Lion King drew on the plot of Hamlet. Does it breathe new life into the story and take it in an interesting direction?
Analyze sound, lighting and production. You may only notice sound if the levels are all wrong and the incidental music drowns out the dialog. Lighting, similarly, you may only notice if everything is so bright that it looks like the action is taking place in a dentist’s office. 39(2.5分) You might consider how the choice of costume brightens a character.
40(2.5分) It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is something that is objectively good or bad. But if you find yourself loving a film that other people seem to dislike, that isn’t necessarily a sign that there’s something wrong with your taste. It could be that a film’s sense of humor agrees with your own, or that a film reflects your life experiences.
A.Don’t forget that it’s all subjective.
B.Think about why you did or didn’t enjoy it.
C.Try to train yourself to see these aspects of a film every time.
D.Why do some films excite people while others send people to sleep?
E.How was the film constructed to provide a new insight into the theme?
F.Characters’ names might be repeated to make sure that you’ve heard them.
G.You can also consider if the film has drawn any inspiration from other source material.
【答案】36.D 37.F 38.G 39.C 40.A
根据前文“What makes the early films of a director great fun while the later ones a total mess?(是什么让一个导演的早期电影非常有趣,而后来的电影却一团糟?)”可知,空前是问句,后文要么是对本句的回答,要么继续提问,形成排比句,所以D项“Why do some films excite people while others send people to sleep?(为什么有些电影让人兴奋,而有些电影让人昏昏欲睡?)”
37.根据前文“Give the film your undivided attention at least once. Filmmakers accept that they won’t always have their audience’s undivided attention. Significant plot points will be highlighted with incidental music so that you focus.(至少一次专心致志地看这部电影。电影制作人承认,他们并不总是能吸引观众的注意力。关键剧情节点会搭配配乐加以烘托,以此让观众集中注意力。)”可知,此处主要讲述了电影制作人用各种方法去吸引观众的注意力,所以F项“Characters’ names might be repeated to make sure that you’ve heard them.(角色的名字可能会被重复,以确保你听到了他们的名字)”符合此处主题,都是吸引观众的注意力的方法。故选F项。
38.根据前文“Consider the themes the film explored. Picking out the themes and assessing how the film treats them is a central point of film criticism. It might be an uncomfortable allegory (讽喻).(想想这部电影探讨的主题。挑选出电影的主题并评估影片如何处理这些主题是影评的核心。这可能是一个令人不舒服的讽喻)”可知,本段讲述电影如何表达主题,根据后文“For instance, The Lion King drew on the plot of Hamlet. Does it breathe new life into the story and take it in an interesting direction?(例如,《狮子王》借鉴了《哈姆雷特》情节。它是否为故事注入了新的活力,并把它带向一个有趣的方向?)”可知,后文举例,讲述了主题借鉴其他作品,所以G项“You can also consider if the film has drawn any inspiration from other source material.(你也可以考虑这部电影是否从其他材料中获得了灵感)”符合本段主题,后文是对此句的举例。故选G项。
39.根据前文“Analyze sound, lighting and production. You may only notice sound if the levels are all wrong and the incidental music drowns out the dialog. Lighting, similarly, you may only notice if everything is so bright that it looks like the action is taking place in a dentist’s office.(分析音响、灯光及制作效果。只有当音量严重失调或配乐盖过对白时,你才会注意到音响问题;同理,只有当灯光亮如牙科诊所时,你才会意识到布光的存在)”可知,C项“Try to train yourself to see these aspects of a film every time.(试着训练自己每次都能看到电影的这些方面)”可知,本句中“这些方面”指的就是音响、灯光及制作效果,是对前文的总结,符合文意。故选C项。
40.设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there is something that is objectively good or bad. But if you find yourself loving a film that other people seem to dislike, that isn’t necessarily a sign that there’s something wrong with your taste. It could be that a film’s sense of humor agrees with your own, or that a film reflects your life experiences.(我们很容易陷入这样的思维陷阱,认为客观存在着好坏之分。但是,如果你发现自己喜欢一部别人似乎不喜欢的电影,这并不一定表明你的品味有问题。它可能是一部电影的幽默感与你自己的幽默感一致,或者一部电影反映了你的生活经历)”可知,本段主要讲述,电影的好坏是主观的印象而不是客观的,所以A项“Don’t forget that it’s all subjective.(别忘了这都是主观的)”符合本段主题。故选A项。

Since making its first international appearance in 1993可知,此处使用现在完成时,其结构为“have/has+过去分词”,主语it是第三人称单数,所以谓语动词为has won。

One possible version:
Good morning! I feel honored to deliver a speech today. Does listening to music disturb our study? Absolutely not! Actually, it can serve as a fantastic study companion.
When I’m wrestling with tough problems, soft background music tends to ease my tension, blocking out random distractions. Whenever I get lost in their catchy tunes and vibrant lyrics, it’s like opening a door to a linguistic and cultural wonderland. This not only improves my language skills but also gives me a deeper understanding of Western culture.
Personally, music doesn’t merely make studying less of a chore; it transforms studying into a more enjoyable and fruitful experience. Let’s embrace music and make learning a truly delightful journey. Thank you for listening!

My father, a music teacher, and I lived in silence that was louder than any noise. Since Mom’s passing, the piano in our living room has stayed closed. His world was built upon Bach and Chopin, while mine was filled with the electric energy of rock music. We were two musicians speaking different languages under the same roof.
The breaking point came on a rainy evening. I was practicing for the school festival. “Must you mess up the chords (和弦) like that?” Dad stood there, “That’s not music — it’s noise!” The words hurt, and I fired back, “At least I’m creating something new! You’re just reproducing what’s already been written!” The moment the words left my mouth, I saw the hurt in his eyes.
In the following days, the silence between us grew heavier. I’d heard him giving online lessons to his students — always patient, encouraging — and my heart ached remembering how he once guided my small hands across the keyboard.
One evening, as I passed by the living room, I noticed the piano was slightly open — something I hadn’t seen since Mom passed away. Curious, I leaned closer and saw a handwritten score. It was a duet (二重奏), with both piano and guitar parts woven together. At the top, in his handwriting, he’d written: “Variations on a Theme — For My Son.” Below it was a line Mom used to say: “Music is how we speak when words aren’t enough.” My breath caught in my throat. This wasn’t just sheet music; it was an apology (道歉), a bridge, an invitation.
The next morning, I found him in the garden, tending Mom’s roses. “Dad, I saw what you’re writing. I… I’m sorry I didn’t respect your music.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
He looked up, his eyes tired but soft.

With our co-written score in hand, I invited Dad to perform with me at the school festival.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
He looked up, his eyes tired but soft. “And I’m sorry I dismissed yours,” he replied. “I’ve listened to your recordings — there’s raw emotion in them that moved me.” He gestured toward the house. “Your mother always said music builds bridges, not walls.” That night at the piano, Dad played classical themes as I added rock variations. Our first attempts were awkward, but soon a beautiful harmony emerged — discipline and freedom, tradition and innovation intertwined. The piano and guitar, once symbols of our divide, now wove a melody of understanding that felt like coming home.
With our co-written score in hand, I invited Dad to perform with me at the school festival. He nodded, a warm smile spreading across his face. On the festival night, under the stage’s bright glow, my father played the opening notes of our co-written piece. My guitar responded with chords of electric rock. As our music intertwined — classical elegance meeting youthful energy — I saw his focused expression soften into a genuine smile. The audience’s applause was thunderous, and in that moment, I knew the music had truly built a bridge between our hearts.
