It was so hot inside. M: Terrible, wasn’t it? Well, what do you think of the film Wutherine Heights? W: It is a good film, but not as good as the book. I feel something is missing in the film. M: Yes, but you can’t possibly fit everything that happens in the novel into a 2-hour film. There isn’t enough time. W: I know, but the director should at least try to follow the story. With this film he left out some important people and even changed the end. M: Well, perhaps he thought he was improving the story. We’ll be looking for six girls to play the female parts, ranging from young women to old ladies. There are also a couple of male parts: Alexander Ford and Joe White. The original play was set in the U.S. , but our writers decided to move the action to Australia, so we could use our own accents. There are passages of Shakespeare throughout the play, for which we’ll use British accents. Tryouts are on Friday. Jason Isaacs, who plays Cary Grant in a coming ITV biopic (传记片), said that although setting his mind on figuring out the actor’s real accent, he had become upset by the absence of interviews with Cary Grant. The star, whose death aged 82 in 1986 brought to an end one of the 20th century’s greatest screen careers, rarely spoke in public and would always adopt a mid-American accent for the cameras. Isaacs, 60, said this week that after some “detective work”, he found out about an interview Cary Grant gave to a student from the University of Iowa months before his death. The student’s classmate secretly recorded the interview in which Cary Grant spoke about his hatred (厌恶) of being approached by fans. The secret recording reveals Cary Grant’s true accent. At the launch of the ITV drama Archie-after Cary Grant’s birth name Archibald Leach — Isaacs said that when he landed the role, “the first thing I did was look for interviews of Cary Grant.” Isaacs added, “He didn’t want to be seen and he didn’t want to be known. There was nothing at all. Only the films. And that’s not what he spoke like. His accent changed a lot in the films.” Isaacs said of listening to the tape: “I felt like I’d finally made a real connection with him and that’s the voice you hear on screen in Archie. It’s more English than he is in the movies. People think they remember Cary Grant’s voice but what they remember is Tony Curtis in Some Like It Hot.” The ITV biopic focuses on Grant’s troubled family relationships. Jennifer Grant, Grant’s daughter, said her father had rarely spoken about his childhood. “Sadly I think there was so much shame wrapped up in it,” Jennifer Grant said. 24.(2.5分)Why did Jason Isaacs attempt to get a recording of Cary Grant? That’s something most of us have experienced, or probably will. After all, it’s part of human life. But the experience can be hard to get over. But research shows there are pathways through the heartache. Listening to sad music is a major one. It can help you begin to feel joy and hopefulness about your life again. It can arouse the desire to connect with others. Sad music can help heal and uplift you from your broken heart. A recent study from Germany found the emotional influence of listening to sad music is an arousal of feelings of empathy (同情), and a desire for positive connection with others. That, itself, is psychologically healing. It draws you away from concentration on yourself, and possibly towards helping others in need of comfort. Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was “beautiful but sad” improved their mood. In fact, it did so when the person first consciously accept the situation causing their sadness, and then began listening to the sad music. That is, when they intended that the sad music might help, they found that it did. These findings link with other studies that show accepting your sad situation emotionally leads to healing and growth beyond it. It seems unbelievable but it does make sense. For example, research from Cornell University found that accepting discomfort about a life experience or new situation, and viewing it as a step towards growth and change, encourages people to find a pathway through it, beyond it. As Churchill famously said, “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” That discomfort points you towards creating a plan, a new action. It brings hope. 28.(2.5分)What can we learn from Paragraph 3&4? A.Sad music can make people help others. B.Sad music can make sad people feel better. C.Sad music can make people believe in themselves. D.Sad music can make people concentrate on themselves. 29.(2.5分)What does the phrase underlined in the last paragraph mean? A.Hearing a swear word used by enemies. B.Avoiding a place to go after death. C.Getting an extremely pleasant time. D.Having an unbearable experience. 30.(2.5分)How does the author develop this article? A.By presenting research findings. B.By giving directions. C.By listing authoritative figures. D.By comparing examples. 31.(2.5分)Which of the following can be the best title for the article? A.How to Find Pathways through Heartaches B.How We React to a Broken Heart Matters a Lot C.What We Can Do to Overcome Discomfort in Life D.Why Listening to Sad Music Heals Your Broken Heart 【答案】28.B 29.D 30.A 31.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第三段中“Sad music can help heal and uplift you from your broken heart. (悲伤的音乐可以帮助你从破碎的心灵中治愈和振作起来。)”和第四段中“Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was ‘beautiful but sad’ improved their mood. (肯特大学的另一项实验发现,当人们感到悲伤时,听‘美丽但悲伤’的音乐可以改善他们的情绪。)”可知,悲伤的音乐对悲伤的人而言有治愈作用,能改善他们的情绪,即可以让他们感觉好一些。故选B项。 29.词句猜测题。根据画线词的下文“That discomfort points you towards creating a plan, a new action. It brings hope.  (这种不适会让你制定一个计划,一个新的行动。它带来了希望。)”可推知,此处描述的一种不适的、糟糕的经历。结合选项内容可知,画线短语意思应该是“有难以忍受的经历”。故选D项。 30. 推理判断题。根据第三段中“A recent study from Germany found the emotional influence of listening to sad music is an arousal of feelings of empathy (同情), and a desire for positive connection with others. (德国最近的一项研究发现,听悲伤的音乐对情绪的影响是一种同理心的唤起,以及与他人建立积极联系的渴望。)”、第四段中“Another experiment, from the University of Kent, found that when people were experiencing sadness, listening to music that was ‘beautiful but sad’ improved their mood. (肯特大学的另一项实验发现,当人们感到悲伤时,听‘美丽但悲伤’的音乐可以改善他们的情绪。)”和最后一段中“For example, research from Cornell University found that accepting discomfort about a life experience or new situation, and viewing it as a step towards growth and change, encourages people to find a pathway through it, beyond it. (例如,康奈尔大学的研究发现,接受对生活经历或新情况的不适,并将其视为迈向成长和改变的一步,会鼓励人们找到克服和超越它的途径。)”可知,文章呈现了多个研究结果,来表明听悲伤音乐的积极作用。故选A项。 31. 通读全文,尤其是第二段中“But research shows there are pathways through the heartache. Listening to sad music is a major one. (但研究表明,心痛是有缓解途径的。听悲伤的音乐是主要的一种途径。)”可知,文章主要介绍了听悲伤的音乐在治愈心灵创伤中的作用,这些作用包括帮助人们重新感受到生活的快乐和希望,唤起同理心,并激发与他人建立积极联系的欲望等。因此,D项“为什么听悲伤的音乐能治愈你破碎的心”契合文章主旨,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。 (本题10分)A speech in a play by Shakespeare can be as short as a word or as long as several hundred. But what is the most common length? Staying away from Shakespeare himself for a moment, we can take Ben Jonson’s play Volpone (1606) and count the number of speeches and their lengths. The most common length is four words. The next most common length is five words. Of the other 16 Jonson’s plays, 12 also have a speech length mode (模式) of four. It was not just Jonson; it was everybody. After 1602, four-word speeches were the most common kind across all the early modern plays that survived. The London theatre industry took off in the late 1580s and early 1590s and we see a concentration of speech length modes of nine or ten. After 1602, the mode of four predominated. If we look just at Shakespeare’s plays, we find him doing what everyone else did: changing from favoring nine-word speeches to favouring four-word speeches around 1597-1602 and never going back. Our suggestion is that the playwrights (剧作家) learned progressively from one another how to represent more closely the speech lengths of everyday exchanges and found that audiences responded well to these. They started to focus less on strict writing rules and more on the liveliness of everyday speech. Another way to think of this is offered by the Russian literary scholar Boris Yarkho. He put forward an “index (指数) of liveliness” — the ratio of the number of speeches to the total number of lines in a play. He researched the works of the 17th-century French playwright Pierre Corneille and found that his comedies have a higher index because of their shorter speeches. The move from a mode of nine words to a mode of four represents the shortened average speech, and thus a move to livelier drama in Yarkho’s terms. Nevertheless, we have no record of any dramatist or playgoer reflecting on the shortening of average speech lengths; our only knowledge of it comes from counting the words in the plays for ourselves. 32.(2.5分)What happened in English plays around the 1600s? A.Their storylines were about famous writers. B.They were influenced by a poetic writing style. C.They featured different storytelling techniques. D.Their speeches were generally shorter in length. 33.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “predominated” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Remained unique. B.Took the leading position. C.Disappeared slowly. D.Played an educational role. 34.(2.5分)Why did playwrights change their writing styles according to paragraph 4? A.To challenge traditional writing rules. B.To stand out by applying their unique style. C.To avoid being affected by social values. D.To create realistic and acceptable speeches. 35.(2.5分)Which of the following is Yarkho’s opinion on the change in plays? A.It saved actors the trouble of memorizing their lines. B.It reflected people's preference for serious dialogues. C.It helped present dramas in an active and pleasant way. D.It made the characters express their feelings effectively. 根据文章第三段“The London theatre industry took off in the late 1580s and early 1590s and we see a concentration of speech length modes of nine or ten.(伦敦戏剧产业在1580年代末和1590年代初开始发展,我们看到演讲长度模式集中在9词或10词)”及“If we look just at Shakespeare’s plays, we find him doing what everyone else did: changing from favoring nine-word speeches to favouring four-word speeches around 1597-1602 and never going back.(如果我们只看莎士比亚的戏剧,我们会发现他做的和其他人一样:在1597-1602年左右,他从喜欢9个词的演讲变成了喜欢4个词的演讲,并且再也没有回去过)”可知,16世纪末尾,话语长度多为9词,10词,17世纪后,话语长度转向4词,话语长度变短。故选D。 33. 根据划线词下文“If we look just at Shakespeare’s plays, we find him doing what everyone else did: changing from favoring nine-word speeches to favouring four-word speeches around 1597-1602 and never going back.(如果我们只看莎士比亚的戏剧,我们会发现他做的和其他人一样:在1597-1602年左右,他从喜欢9个词的演讲变成了喜欢4个词的演讲,并且再也没有回去过)”可知,划线词后以莎士比亚的戏剧为例,说明话语长度变短,并且再没有变长,推知,4词模式从此处于主流领导地位,划线词意思为:处于领先地位。故选B。 34. 根据文章第四段“Our suggestion is that the playwrights(剧作家)learned progressively from one another how to represent more closely the speech lengths of everyday exchanges and found that audiences responded well to these. They started to focus less on strict writing rules and more on the liveliness of everyday speech.(我们的建议是,剧作家们逐渐从彼此学习如何更紧密地表达日常交流中的讲话长度,并发现观众对此反应良好。他们开始不那么关注严格的写作规则,而更多地关注日常讲话的生动活泼)”可知,剧作家写作时更加重视日常用语的生动性,因此,他们改变写作风格创造现实和可接受的演讲。故选D。 35.推理判断题。根据文章第五段“The move from a mode of nine words to a mode of four represents the shortened average speech, and thus a move to livelier drama in Yarkho’s terms.(从9个词的模式到4个词的模式代表了缩短的平均讲话,因此用Yarkho的话说,这是一种更生动的戏剧)”可知,Yarkho认为,将戏剧的词数变短,有助于以一种积极愉快的方式呈现戏剧。故选C。 (本题12.5分)Music and Its Role in Human Life Music is one of the most universal forms of human expression. From ancient songs to modern pop, it has been an important part of every culture around the world. But why does music play such an important role in our daily lives? 36(2.5分) One reason is that music helps us deal with our emotions in a healthy way. When people feel happy, sad, or angry, they often listen to music that matches or changes how they feel. 37(2.5分) A sad song can bring comfort during difficult times, while an upbeat song can make us feel energetic and hopeful again. Sometimes, when we cannot find the right words, music speaks for us instead. Music can bring people together. Think of concerts, festivals, or singing with friends. 38(2.5分) These shared moments create a feeling of belonging. Scientists have found that making music in a group releases chemicals in our brains that increase trust and teamwork. Music training improves memory, attention, and problem-solving. For adults, listening to music while working can help them focus and even make boring tasks more enjoyable. Personal taste, cultural background, and past experiences all affect how we feel about a piece of music. 40(2.5分) Some people find energy in rock, while others prefer the calm of classical music. A.To recreate his accent for real. B.To show sincere respect to him. C.To get the role of Cary Grant easily. (本题12.5分)Music and Its Role in Human Life Music is one of the most universal forms of human expression. Even strangers can become friends through a shared love of a song. 39(2.5分) Studies show that children who learn an instrument often do better in subjects like math and language. Music training improves memory, attention, and problem-solving. For adults, listening to music while working can help them focus and even make boring tasks more enjoyable. However, not everyone reacts to music in the same way. Personal taste, cultural background, and past experiences all affect how we feel about a piece of music. 40(2.5分) Some people find energy in rock, while others prefer the calm of classical music. But one thing is clear: music will always be an important part of human life. A.Music is also good for the brain. B.Music can be a way to celebrate. C.The answer lies in its effects on us. D.Different people like different music. E.You don’t need special skills to enjoy music. F.These activities connect people in a special way.
