M: My name is Adam and I'd like to welcome you to this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Let me tell you a little bit about the festival itself. When it originally started back in 1976, it was actually called the Festival of Festivals. The aim back then has not changed much. The original organizers wanted to show films from other festivals around the world. They wanted to build a cultural center for international films in Canada. The festival then grew in size and became well known among both filmmakers and film industry professionals. After that, it changed its name in 1994 to what we have now. In 2010, we moved into our own building, the TIFF Bell Lightbox, which has five floors filled with cinemas, galleries of film art, as well as a film library. The festival runs in September, but the building is open all year round. It runs workshops with local filmmakers and helps raise money for films from first-time directors. Now, let’s see some parts from all the films on offer this year.

根据第二段“And if you’re interested in songwriting, there are dedicated workshops waiting for you to release your creativity. (如果你对写歌感兴趣,有专门的工作坊等着你释放创造力。)”可知,除了享受音乐和美食,游客还可以参加工作坊创作原创歌曲。
22.细节理解题。根据Ticket Prices部分“Disability Concessions £93 (残疾人优惠票价93英镑)”以及Accommodation & Camping部分“camping tickets must be purchased separately at a rate of £45 per tent. A single camping ticket provides one plot (露营票必须单独购买,每个帐篷45英镑。一张露营票提供一个地块)”可知,一个露营地块需要£45。因此,该残疾成年人需要支付的总费用是93+45=138英镑。
23.细节理解题。根据Parking & Drop-Off部分“Free authorized drop-off access is reserved for three groups of visitors only, but prior application is required. (免费授权下客区仅限三类游客使用,但需要提前申请)”可知,提前申请是必要条件。
(本题10分)Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions: Listening to Christmas music while decorating the tree, going to look at Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa Claus. Well, forget about that last one. At least for my family.
Parents think about how fun it will be at first to take their kids to see Santa, or tell them gifts are on their way from Santa, but this comes with a series of annoying questions about Mr. Claus like how he makes it to all the houses in one night, as well as the broken trust after revealing the truth. I didn’t want that.
You may think that our Christmases were rigid, and without any warmth or magic. I don’t think so. Part of that is due to what I taught my kids about Christmas. Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. Netflix’s 2021 movie A Boy Called Christmas is a useful tool for helping kids connect Christmas myths and traditions with reality while keeping the spirit of generosity alive.
The month of December is filled with movie and game nights, plays and concerts. These family traditions have added flavor to my kids’ entire childhood. Hopefully, they know now that it’s the time with family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond just one day — and that magic, wonder and awe (敬畏) can happen any time with family, especially if we remain generous and grateful.
My kids are older now, and they’re glad they didn’t believe the myth of Santa. It was one fewer bad memory for them, one fewer blow to their innocent childhood.
What makes the author’s family Christmas different?
A.Skipping visiting Santa Claus. B.Appreciating Christmas lights.
C.Exploring Santa Claus’s house. D.Helping Santa Claus deliver gifts.
What message does the author want to convey to her kids in Paragraph 3?
A.St. Nicholas sets a good example of kindness.
B.Christmas is about generosity rooted in real history.
C.Myths are necessary to keep the holiday spirit alive.
D.Christmas traditions have lost their magic over time.
Why does the author keep mentioning “magic” in paragraph 4?
A.To prove the Santa myth is not necessary for Christmas.
B.To explain family entertainments are popular in December.
C.To show Christmas is the most magical festival for families.
D.To stress shared family time is the core of Christmas’ charm.
Which of the following can best describe the author?
A.Generous and devoted. B.Strict but caring.
C.Thoughtful and insightful. D.Distant but creative.
【答案】24.A 25.B 26.D 27.C
根据第一段中的“Well, forget about that last one. At least for my family.(好吧,忘了最后一个吧。至少对我的家人来说是这样)”以及第二段中的“Parents think about how fun it will be at first to take their kids to see Santa, or tell them gifts are on their way from Santa, but this comes with a series of annoying questions about Mr.Claus like how he makes it to all the houses in one night, as well as the broken trust after revealing the truth. I didn’t want that.(父母们一开始会想,带他们的孩子去看圣诞老人,或者告诉他们礼物是圣诞老人送来的,会有多有趣,但这会带来一系列关于圣诞老人的恼人问题,比如他如何在一夜之间到达所有的房子,以及在揭示真相后失去的信任。我不想那样)”可知,作者家庭与众不同的圣诞节传统是跳过拜访圣诞老人这一环节。
25.推理判断题。 根据第三段中的“Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. Netflix’s 2021 movie A Boy Called Christmas is a useful tool for helping kids connect Christmas myths and traditions with reality while keeping the spirit of generosity alive.(我没有告诉他们圣诞老人是真的,而是告诉他们圣诞老人很可能起源于圣尼古拉斯,一个对需要帮助的孩子很善良和慷慨的人。Netflix 2021年的电影《一个叫圣诞的男孩》是一个有用的工具,可以帮助孩子们将圣诞神话和传统与现实联系起来,同时保持慷慨的精神)”可知,作者想向孩子们传达的信息是,圣诞节是关于慷慨的节日,而这种慷慨精神是植根于真实历史的。
26.推理判断题。 根据第四段中的“Hopefully, they know now that it’s the time with family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond just one day — and that magic, wonder and awe(敬畏) can happen any time with family, especially if we remain generous and grateful.(希望他们现在知道,正是与家人共度时光,一起做特别的事情,才创造了这种魔力,而我对他们的爱远远不止一天——这种魔力、奇迹和敬畏可以随时与家人一起发生,特别是如果我们保持慷慨和感激的话)”可知,作者不断提到“magic”是为了强调与家人共度时光是圣诞节魅力的核心。
通读全文,结合第一段中“Christmas time with kids is filled with warm traditions: Listening to Christmas music while decorating the tree, going to look at Christmas lights with hot chocolate in hand, and taking the kids to visit Santa Claus. Well, forget about that last one. At least for my family.(与孩子们共度的圣诞节充满了温馨的传统:在装饰圣诞树的同时听圣诞音乐,手里拿着热巧克力看圣诞灯,带孩子们去拜访圣诞老人。好吧,忘了最后一个吧。至少对我的家人来说)”以及第三段中“Instead of telling them Santa is real, I told them it most likely has its origins in St. Nicholas, a man who was kind and generous to children in need. (我没有给他们说圣诞老人是真的,而是告诉他们圣诞老人很可能起源于圣尼古拉斯,一个对贫困儿童友善和慷慨的人)”和第四段中“Hopefully, they know now that it’s the time with family, doing special things together, that creates the magic and that my love for them goes well beyond just one day — and that magic, wonder and awe(敬畏) can happen any time with family, especially if we remain generous and grateful.(希望他们现在知道,正是与家人共度时光,一起做特别的事情,才创造了这种魔力,我对他们的爱远远超出了一天——这种魔力、奇迹和敬畏可以在任何时候和家人一起发生,特别是如果我们保持慷慨和感激)”可知,作者深思熟虑地选择不让孩子相信圣诞老人神话,并通过讲述圣尼古拉斯的故事和创造家庭传统来传递节日的真正意义,这表明她是一位考虑周全且富有洞察力的母亲。
Cinco de Mayo is probably the holiday most often celebrated that no one understands.
Literally (根据字面意思) “Fifth of May”, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. In 1861, France sent a big army to invade Mexico, as they wanted to collect some war debts. The French army was much larger, better trained and equipped than the Mexicans struggling to defend (保卫) the road to Mexico City. The French army reached Puebla, where the Mexicans won a huge victory. The victory was shortlived, as the French army regrouped and continued, and eventually took Mexico City, but the joy of an unlikely victory against France is remembered every May fifth.
Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16, because it was on that day in 1810 that Miguel Hidalgo invited his people to take up arms and join him in fighting against Spanish rulers. Independence Day is a much more important holiday in Mexico. For some reason, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in the United States of America, by Mexicans and Americans alike, than it is in Mexico. One theory for why it is more popular in the USA is that at one time, it was celebrated in all of Mexico and by Mexicans living in former Mexican areas such as Texas and California. It was ignored in Mexico after a while but still celebrated in the north of the border, which never got out of the habit of remembering the famous battle.
In Puebla and in many American cities with large Mexican populations, there are parades, dancing and festivals. Traditional Mexican food is often served or sold. Mariachi (街头音乐) bands fill town squares, and a lot of beers are served. It’s a fun holiday, really more about celebrating the Mexican way of life than about remembering the battle which happened 157 years ago. In the USA, schoolchildren decorate their classrooms and try their hand at cooking some basic Mexican food. All over the world, Mexican restaurants bring in mariachi bands and offer specials for what’s almost certain to be a packed house.
Why do more Americans celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
A.Some American areas once belonged to Mexico.
B.Americans are influenced by Mexican culture.
C.Mexicans don’t form the habit of having a holiday.
D.Many Mexicans value Independence Day.
How can schoolchildren celebrate Cinco de Mayo?
A.By performing music at restaurants.
B.By trying making some Mexican food.
C.By turning the classroom into a battlefield.
D.By offering special gifts to their teachers.
By celebrating Cinco de Mayo, people mainly show ________.
A.where the history is honored most
B.what special customs they have
C.how Mexicans gained independence
D.who should be remembered forever
According to the passage, people celebrate Cinco de Mayo because Mexicans ________.
A.paid off their war debts
B.succeeded in defending Mexico City
C.gained independence from Spanish
D.defeated the French army in Puebla
【答案】28.A 29.B 30.B 31.D
根据第三段中“One theory for why it is more popular in the USA is that at one time, it was celebrated in all of Mexico and by Mexicans living in former Mexican areas such as Texas and California. (为什么它在美国更受欢迎的一个理论是,有一段时间,整个墨西哥以及生活在德克萨斯州和加利福尼亚州等前墨西哥地区的墨西哥人都会庆祝这个节日。)”可知,更多的美国人庆祝Cinco de Mayo是因为美国的德克萨斯州和加利福尼亚州等地区之前属于墨西哥,那里的墨西哥人会庆祝这个节日,即因为一些美国地区曾经属于墨西哥。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“In the USA, schoolchildren decorate their classrooms and try their hand at cooking some basic Mexican food. (在美国,学生们装饰他们的教室,并尝试自己做一些基本的墨西哥食物。)”可知,学生们可以通过尝试做一些墨西哥食物来庆祝这个节日。故选B项。
30.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“It’s a fun holiday, really more about celebrating the Mexican way of life than about remembering the battle which happened 157 years ago. (这是一个有趣的节日,更多的是庆祝墨西哥人的生活方式,而不是纪念157年前发生的那场战争。)”可知,人们在这个节日更多的是庆祝墨西哥人的生活方式,也就是展示他们特殊的风俗习惯。故选B项。
31.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Literally (根据字面意思) “Fifth of May”, Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday celebrating the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862. (字面意思是“五月五日”,Cinco de Mayo是墨西哥的节日,庆祝1862年5月5日发生的普埃布拉战役。)”和“The French army reached Puebla, where the Mexicans won a huge victory. The victory was shortlived, as the French army regrouped and continued, and eventually took Mexico City, but the joy of an unlikely victory against France is remembered every May fifth. (法国军队到达了普埃布拉,墨西哥人在那里取得了巨大的胜利。这场胜利是短暂的,因为法国军队重新集结并继续前进,最终占领了墨西哥城,但每年的5月5日,人们都会记住这场对法国不太可能的胜利带来的喜悦。)”可知,人们庆祝这个节日是因为墨西哥人曾在历史上的这一天在普埃布拉击败了法国军队。故选D项。
(本题10分)Leaving the childhood comforts of kindergarten (幼儿园) and moving on to “real school” can be “scary”. So, on their first day of school when entering the first grade, German children traditionally receive a cone-shaped (锥形的) bag. And the bag, called the Schultute, is always filled with treats and toys to make starting school much sweeter.
In the early 1800s in Jena, children were told there was a candy tree in the teacher’s yard, and that when they were old enough to reach it, they could start school. From there the custom spread to Berlin. Back then, the cone was simply a paper one — like those from candy stores — filled with sugary treats. After World War I, the custom spread south and west in Germany. The well-known German author Erich Kastner wrote in his 1957 book, When I Was a Young Man, “When I was a child, I received a bag filled with sweets…” But up through the 1960s, it was not a common practice.
One thing to note: the Schultute is always opened at home, not at school. This practice was especially meaningful during difficult times, when the cone might hold some simple handmade gifts. And at home, with no one else watching, the child could see how much thought went into every little gift — each one saying, “You matter!”.
Today, parents in Germany still buy the Schultute and fill it with a mix of practical school supplies — like pencils, crayons, and notebooks — along with small toys and sweets. Some parents choose to add surprises, such as colorful stickers, fun erasers, or a special book, while others prefer to keep it simple. It’s up to the parents to decide the contents (内容物).
In my opinion, the Schultute doesn’t need to be expensive but remains necessary, as it is a lovely tradition that celebrates a child growing up.
What is the main purpose of the Schultute tradition?
A.To provide school supplies for kids.
B.To celebrate the end of kindergarten.
C.To praise kids for their good performances.
D.To make kids less worried about the new start.
What is mainly discussed about the Schultute tradition in paragraph 2?
A.Its important changes. B.The way of celebrating it.
C.Its historical development. D.The reason for its popularity.
Why was it meaningful to open the Schultute at home in hard times?
A.It could save money. B.It made kids feel valued.
C.It avoided showing off. D.It kept the gifts a secret.
What can be learned about the contents of the Schultute?
A.They show kids’ preferences.
B.They meet certain standards.
C.They can be both useful and enjoyable.
D.They are expected to be shared among kids.
根据第一段“So, on their first day of school when entering the first grade, German children traditionally receive a cone-shaped (锥形的) bag. And the bag, called the Schultute, is always filled with treats and toys to make starting school much sweeter.(因此,按照德国传统,孩子升入一年级开学第一天,会收到一个锥形袋子,叫做Schultute(开学礼包)。袋子里装满零食和玩具,让开学这件事变得美好愉快。)”可知,“Schultute”传统的主要目的是让孩子对新学期的到来不再担忧。
33.主旨大意题。根据第二段“In the early 1800s in Jena, children were told there was a candy tree in the teacher’s yard, and that when they were old enough to reach it, they could start school. From there the custom spread to Berlin.(19 世纪初,在耶拿,大人们告诉孩子们,老师的院子里长着一棵糖果树。等孩子长到够得到这棵树的时候,就可以去上学。这个习俗从耶拿传到柏林。)”可知,第二段主要讲的是“Schultute”的历史发展。
34.细节理解题。根据第三段“This practice was especially meaningful during difficult times, when the cone might hold some simple handmade gifts. And at home, with no one else watching, the child could see how much thought went into every little gift — each one saying, “You matter!”.(在物资匮乏的年代,这一习惯意义非凡,袋子里装的或许只是简单的手工礼物。在家中,没有旁人围观,孩子能够感受到每一件小礼物所倾注的心意,每一份礼物都在传递:“你很重要!”)”可知,在困难时期,在家中举行“Schultute”仪式可以让孩子们感到被重视。
35.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Today, parents in Germany still buy the Schultute and fill it with a mix of practical school supplies — like pencils, crayons, and notebooks — along with small toys and sweets. Some parents choose to add surprises, such as colorful stickers, fun erasers, or a special book, while others prefer to keep it simple.(如今德国父母依旧会购置 Schultute,里面既有铅笔、蜡笔、笔记本这类实用学习用品,也搭配小玩具和糖果。有些家长会放上彩色贴纸、趣味橡皮、特别的书籍这类惊喜小物件,也有些家长喜欢简简单单。)”可知,“Schultute”的内容物既实用又有趣。
(本题12.5分)The differences between American and British English have developed over centuries. 36(2.5分) They also include using the same word and special phrases in different ways.
Take the word “football”, for example. The British Broadcasting Corporation, or BBC, says that for British people, as for most people in the world, this word means a very popular game played with a round ball. But in America this word actually means a sport played with an egg-shaped ball. 37(2.5分) Similarly, the Americans eat potato chips as a snack, while the British eat crisps (薯片). For example, in the well-known British dish, fish and chips, the chips are long pieces of fried potatoes.
Another word that has almost opposite meanings for American and British people is “quite”. For Americans this word means something like “very”. So, when an American says “It’s quite hot today,” they mean that it is extremely warm. 39(2.5分) If a British person tells you something is “quite good”, they actually mean it is not that great! Such differences can lead to misunderstandings.
40(2.5分) British people talk about “a drop in the bucket (桶)” when Americans say “a drop in the ocean” — both mean a small amount of something that makes no difference to something much larger. Another phrase that can cause a problem in conversation is “I don’t mind”. If a British person is asked if they want coffee or tea, they might reply “I don’t mind”, meaning either is fine. But an American might answer “I don’t care”, which sounds very impolite to a British person’s ears!
A.Americans call these French fries!
B.British English is a serious language.
C.They call the British “football” “soccer”.
D.But for British people “quite” means “a little bit”.
E.But there are not many examples that can explain it.

37.根据上文“But in America this word actually means a sport played with an egg-shaped ball.(但在美国,这个词实际上指的是一种用蛋形球进行的运动)”可知,此处应说明美国人对英式football的称呼,C选项“They call the British “football” “soccer”.(他们把英式“football”称为“soccer”)”承接上文football的词汇差异,符合语境。故选C项。
38.根据上文“For example, in the well-known British dish, fish and chips, the chips are long pieces of fried potatoes.(例如,在著名的英式菜肴炸鱼薯条中,薯条是长条状的炸土豆)”可知,此处应说明美国人对英式“chips”的称呼,A选项“Americans call these French fries!(美国人把这些称为薯条!)” 故选A项。
39.根据上文“So, when an American says “It’s quite hot today,” they mean that it is extremely warm.(所以,当美国人说“今天quite热”时,他们的意思是天气非常热)”以及下文“If a British person tells you something is “quite good”, they actually mean it is not that great!(如果一个英国人告诉你某件事“quite”,他们实际上的意思是没那么好!)”可知,此处应对比英国人对“quite”的理解,D选项“But for British people “quite” means “a little bit”.(但对英国人来说,“quite”意思是“一点点”)”承上启下,符合语境。故选D项。
40.根据下文“British people talk about “a drop in the bucket (桶)” when Americans say “a drop in the ocean”(英国人说“a drop in the bucket”,而美国人说“a drop in the ocean”)”可知,此处应引出英美短语用法的差异,G选项“British and American people also use different special phrases.(英国人和美国人也使用不同的特殊短语)”引出下文短语差异的例子,符合语境。

Tanino was seventeen or seventy-four — it made no difference. He loved celebrating his birthday with love and attention. Each year, he began the day replying to warm messages and calls. Then, he met his friends at Carmelo’s café, where he enjoyed free coffee and cakes. At lunch, he returned home to a delicious meal prepared by his wife, Melina.
This year, however, things seemed different. After finishing lunch at home, Tanino asked, “Can we have pasta with tuna (金枪鱼意面) next Sunday?” Melina shook her head. “No, Rosanna doesn’t like it.” Surprised, Tanino suggested sweet-and-sour liver (肝) . Again, Melina refused, saying Rosanna couldn’t eat it. This was unusual. In their family, the birthday person usually chose the menu. Feeling upset, Tanino said generously, “You choose then. It’s not just my meal.”
Later, something caught his eye: the surprise on Melina’s face. Had she forgotten his birthday? If his wife forgot, would his friends remember? The next day, at Carmelo’s café, Tanino tested the waters by asking if they’d meet on Sunday. One by one, his friends declined due to family plans. Convinced they’d forgotten, Tanino felt hurt. Feeling down, Tanino passed a shop and bought three boxes of chocolates— if no one else would celebrate, he’d do it himself!
As his birthday approached, Tanino expected nothing. He even looked forward to seeing regret on others’ faces. But that morning, his phone lit up with messages and calls. His friends invited him to the café the next day! At lunch, Melina served all his favourite dishes, and his daughter Rosanna arrived, bringing gifts and flowers. Tanino was moved, though still puzzled. Would they have come if he hadn’t reminded Melina days earlier?
Just then, Rosanna raised her glass and said, “Happy Birthday, Dad — and Happy Mother’s Day, Mum!” Tanino froze. How could he have missed that? Suddenly, everything made sense. His friends weren’t free because they were with their mums. He, who had judged everyone, had forgotten the most important part of the weekend!
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
“Sorry,” Tanino apologized to Melina, “I was so selfish I forgot your day.”
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Dad, you’re going to be a grandfather!” Rosanna said happily.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
“Sorry,” Tanino apologized to Melina, “I was so selfish I forgot your day.” A wave of guilt washed over him as he spoke. He felt small and ashamed, recalling how he had been angry at the café and even bought chocolates to comfort himself, wrongly accusing everyone of forgetting him. Hearing his words, Melina’s face softened into a warm smile. “It’s okay, really,” she reassured him. “Actually, I’ve moved on to the next level now.” Tanino looked at her, puzzled, until she exchanged a meaningful glance with Rosanna. That’s when he noticed Rosanna’s cheeks and the gentle hand she rested on her belly.
“Dad, you’re going to be a grandfather!” Rosanna said happily. Tanino’s eyes went wide with shock, and for a second, he couldn’t find his voice. Then, overwhelming joy replaced his surprise. He leaped up and wrapped his arms around Rosanna, followed by a big hug for Melina. “This is the best birthday present ever!” he exclaimed, his heart swelling with happiness. He finally understood why Melina had seemed distracted and why Rosanna couldn’t eat liver. Everything made perfect sense now. They hadn’t forgotten his birthday; they had been busy preparing the most wonderful surprise for him.

My name is adam, and i'd like to welcome you to this year's toronto international film festival. Let me tell you a little bit about the festival itself. When I originally started back in one thousand nine seventy, IT was actually called the festival of festivals. The aim back then has not changed much. The original organizers wanted to show films from other festivals around the world. They wanted to build a cultural centre for international films in canada, the festival that grew in size and became well known among both filmmakers and film industry professionals. Let me tell you a little bit about the festival itself. When I originally started back in one thousand thousand nine seventy six, IT was actually called the festival of festivals. The aim back then has not changed much. The original organizers wanted to show films from other festivals around the world. They wanted to build a cultural center for international films in canada. The festival then grew in size and became well known among both filmmakers and film industry professionals. After that, I changed its name in nineteen ninety four to what we have now. In twenty ten, we moved into our own building, the tiff bell lights x, which has five floors filled with cinemas, galleries of film mark as well as a film library.
F.They are not only using different words for the same thing.
G.British and American people also use different special phrases.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
“Sorry,” Tanino apologized to Melina, “I was so selfish I forgot your day.”
