He learned how to check the animals’ temperatures and give them simple treatments under the vets’ guidance. But, now, David’s favorite part of volunteering is training homeless dogs. He teaches them basic commands like “sit” and “stay”. Many of these dogs have been adopted by families because of his training. David says that seeing the dogs find new homes makes him feel really happy. In the future, David wants to study veterinary medicine in college. He hopes that after he graduates, he can work in an animal hospital and help more animals that are sick or injured. He believes that every animal deserves to be cared for and loved. 二、阅读理解 (本题7.5分)Wee Wonders Join us for an adventure with art and nature. That’s exactly what was expected to happen when a Campbell County shelter event in Virginia held an adoption day on June 8, 2025. But what happened that day was far from ordinary. A stray (流浪动物) named Sienna was greeting people at the event when she noticed something wasn’t right with one of the attendees. Sienna walked up to the man and stayed with him, putting her paw (爪子) on his leg. Sienna, who had probably been trained before becoming a stray, was signaling that he was about to have a seizure A few moments later, the man’s wife, Kristen Davis, returned to his side and saw that there was a medical emergency unfolding. Davis quickly brought him to their car, turned on the air conditioning and gave him the care he needed. The Campbell County Animal Control explained on social media that Sienna reacted almost immediately and understood what was going on before it occurred. The post explained, “Sienna knew it before any human saw the signs. She gently broke away and walked straight up to a man she had never met. Then she did what surprised the people at present. It wasn’t a trick. It wasn’t reminded of.” Davis updated a post online. “We already have three dogs at home, but none of them are service dogs or can detect seizures like Sienna,” she said, adding that her family wasn’t capable of adopting a fourth, but she wanted people to know how amazing Sienna was. Many people were interested in adopting Sienna and a couple, who live 50 miles away, recently came to the shelter to meet her. They adopted Sienna and she has not left their son’s side ever since. 24.(2.5分)Why did Sienna walk up to the man? A.She detected his health issue. B.She enjoyed playing with him. C.She desired to be adopted soon. D.She was asked to entertain him. 25.(2.5分)What did the Campbell County Animal Control say about what Sienna did? A.It went as people had expected. B.It turned out to be a funny trick. C.It was intentionally reminded of. D.It seemed like her natural response. 26.(2.5分)What did Davis’s online post show? A.Her capacity to train stray dogs. B.Her high praise for Sienna. C.Her strong willingness to volunteer. D.Her decision to take Sienna home. 27.(2.5分)What can we learn about Sienna from the text? A.She has a happy ending. B.She is good at caring for kids. C.She hates staying at the shelter. D.She will work in the medical field. 根据第二段“Sienna walked up to the man and stayed with him, putting her paw (爪子) on his leg. Sienna, who had probably been trained before becoming a stray, was signaling that he was about to have a seizure (突然发作).(西耶娜走向这名男子,待在他身边,把爪子搭在他腿上。这只在流浪前或许受过训练的西耶娜,发出信号表明他即将疾病发作。)”可知,西耶娜走向这名男子是因为察觉到他的健康问题。 25.推理判断题。根据第四段“The post explained, “Sienna knew it before any human saw the signs. She gently broke away and walked straight up to a man she had never met. Then she did what surprised the people at present. It wasn’t a trick. It wasn’t reminded of.”(该帖子解释道:“在任何人发现征兆之前,西耶娜就察觉到了。她轻轻挣脱,径直走向一位素未谋面的男士。接着她做出了令在场所有人惊讶的举动。这不是把戏,也没有受到提示。”)”可知,坎贝尔县动物管控部门表示这是狗狗的本能反应。 26.推理判断题。根据第五段“Davis updated a post online. “We already have three dogs at home, but none of them are service dogs or can detect seizures like Sienna,” she said, adding that her family wasn’t capable of adopting a fourth, but she wanted people to know how amazing Sienna was.(戴维斯在网上更新帖子。“我们家里已经有三只狗,但没有一只是服务犬,也没有谁能像西耶娜一样察觉疾病发作。”她补充说自家无法收养第四只狗,但她想让大家知道西耶娜有多了不起。)”可知,戴维斯的网络帖子表达了她对西耶娜的高度赞扬。 27.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Many people were interested in adopting Sienna and a couple, who live 50 miles away, recently came to the shelter to meet her. They adopted Sienna and she has not left their son’s side ever since.(很多人想要收养西耶娜,一对住在50英里外的夫妇来到收容所见它。他们收养了西耶娜,从此它一直陪伴在他们儿子身边。)”可知,西耶娜拥有圆满的结局。 (本题10分)When danger approaches, many creatures seem to follow the ancient proverb that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Researchers have recently been finding surprising ways that animals communicate with other species in this kind of cooperative defense agreement. For example, a recent study in Nature Ecology & Evolution documented more than 20 bird species on four continents that make virtually identical “whining” calls when they spot brood parasites (巢寄生鸟类) such as cuckoos. “That call is essentially the word for ‘cuckoo’ — gathering individuals to come together against this common enemy,” says study co-lead author James Kennerley. Brood parasites lay eggs in other birds’ nests, tricking the host parents into raising their chicks for them. At a field site in Australia, Kennerley has witnessed individuals from a dozen or more species attack a cuckoo in response to a chorus of whining calls, which can be so ferocious that Kennerley and his colleagues need to cage the model cuckoo used in their experiments to protect it. Otherwise the attacking birds would have “just completely torn it into pieces”, Kennerley says. Many birds also share a common vocabulary for enemies. Wildlife ecologist Erick Greene and others find songbirds and red squirrels use high-pitched “seet” calls to warn of flying hunters — too high for the hunters to hear. If the hunter lands, they switch to “attack” calls that, as Greene puts it,“draw in the group to drive that hunter out.” Monkeys, lemurs, and chipmunks recognize other species’ alarm calls. In coral reefs, unrelated fish exchange visual and chemical signs to avoid predators (捕食者). But cooperative defense is not the only reason for cross-species communication. It may help birds migrate and enhance food intake among mixed-species monkey groups and dolphin groups. “However, unlike with alarm calls, researchers aren’t sure if they give warnings on purpose or just randomly follow other birds. But clearly, very complex multi-species communication networks are common,” Greene says. “It develops a sense of connection among animals, encouraging them to keep an eye on one another in their shared surroundings.” 28.(2.5分)Why does the author mention the proverb in paragraph 1? A.To show that animals are similar to humans. B.To explain how animals identify their friends. C.To introduce the topic of cross-species cooperation. D.To prove the changeability of cross-species relationships. 29.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “ferocious” in paragraph 3 most probably mean? A.Organized. B.Intense. C.Brief. D.Cautious. 30.(2.5分)What can be learned about the cooperative defense? A.It mainly happens among bird species. B.It relies on researchers’ intervention to be effective. C.It involves different species responding to a shared threat. D.It requires animals to use the same type of sound to send warnings. 31.(2.5分)Which of the following may Greene agree with? A.Animals may not signal intentionally. B.It’s urgent to protect certain species’ habitats. C.Songbirds tend to use loud calls to frighten away hunters. D.The multi-species communication is too complex to track. 根据第一段中“When danger approaches, many creatures seem to follow the ancient proverb that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. Researchers have recently been finding surprising ways that animals communicate with other species in this kind of cooperative defense agreement.(当危险来临时,许多生物似乎都遵循着古老的谚语“敌人的敌人是朋友”。研究人员最近发现,动物在这种合作防御协议中与其他物种交流的方式令人惊讶)”可知,作者提到这句谚语是为了引出跨物种合作这一主题。故选C。 29.词句猜测题。根据第三段中“At a field site in Australia, Kennerley has witnessed individuals from a dozen or more species attack a cuckoo in response to a chorus of whining calls, which can be so ferocious that Kennerley and his colleagues need to cage the model cuckoo used in their experiments to protect it. Otherwise the attacking birds would have “just completely torn it into pieces”, Kennerley says.(在澳大利亚的一处野外研究地点,肯纳利(Kennerley)目睹了十几种甚至更多种类的鸟儿,在听到一阵哀鸣声后,群起攻击一只杜鹃。这场攻击如此ferocious,以至于肯纳利和他的同事们不得不用笼子罩住实验中使用的杜鹃模型,以保护它。肯纳利说,否则的话,那些攻击的鸟儿“会把它撕得粉碎”)”可知,攻击的鸟儿非常凶猛,否则会把模型杜鹃撕成碎片,所以ferocious意为“凶猛的,强烈的”,与Intense意思相近。故选B。 30.推理判断题。根据第二段中“For example, a recent study in Nature Ecology & Evolution documented more than 20 bird species on four continents that make virtually identical “whining” calls when they spot brood parasites (巢寄生鸟类) such as cuckoos. “That call is essentially the word for ‘cuckoo’ — gathering individuals to come together against this common enemy,” says study co-lead author James Kennerley.(例如,最近发表在《自然生态与进化》上的一项研究记录了四大洲20多种鸟类在发现杜鹃等巢寄生鸟类时会发出几乎相同的“哀鸣”声。“这种叫声本质上就是‘杜鹃’这个词——召集个体聚集起来对抗这个共同的敌人,”该研究的共同主要作者James Kennerley说)”以及第五段中“Monkeys, lemurs, and chipmunks recognize other species’ alarm calls. In coral reefs, unrelated fish exchange visual and chemical signs to avoid predators (捕食者).(猴子、狐猴和花栗鼠能识别其他物种的警报声。在珊瑚礁中,无关的鱼类会交换视觉和化学信号以躲避捕食者)”可知,合作防御涉及不同物种对共同威胁的反应。故选C。 31.推理判断题。根据最后一段中““However, unlike with alarm calls, researchers aren’t sure if they give warnings on purpose or just randomly follow other birds. But clearly, very complex multi-species communication networks are common,” Greene says.(“然而,与警报声不同的是,研究人员不确定它们是有意发出警告,还是只是随机跟随其他鸟类。但显然,非常复杂的多物种交流网络很常见,”Greene说)”可知,Greene认为动物可能不是有意发出信号的。故选A。 (本题10分)Nothing says “proud homeowner” like a clean, green lawn. A clean lawn shows your care and earns your neighbors’ admiration. Every autumn, millions of homeowners reach for their garden tools. They gather fallen leaves, bag them, and send them away. However, this tidy appearance comes at a cost. A growing movement of environmentalists suggests we simply leave the leaves instead of sending them to landfills. If leaves are buried in landfills, they break down without oxygen and give off harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming. In fact, yard waste makes up about 13% of what we throw away. Some people burn leaf piles instead. But this releases harmful chemicals into the air and creates fire risks, especially in dry conditions. So what happens when we leave the leaves? The benefits are significant. Leaf litter shelters insects, spiders and other small creatures, offering critical winter habitats for many species as noted by the Xerces Society. The National Wildlife Federation’s “Leave the Leaves” program adds that butterflies, bees and other insects rely on fallen leaves for protection. Leaves are also natural plant food. As they break down, they release nutrients into the soil. This helps grass stay green and healthy without chemical products. Many universities recommend cutting leaves into small pieces with a lawn mower (割草机) and leaving them on the grass rather than removing them. This autumn, consider seeing your leaves differently. They are not trash to remove but a resource to keep. Move them into garden beds. Run over them with a mower to break them into small pieces. Let them accumulate in quiet corners of your yard. These simple actions reduce pollution, support wildlife, and nourish (滋养) your soil. Sometimes the best thing we can do for the planet is also the easiest: just leave the leaves. 32.(2.5分)What do homeowners generally think of a clean lawn? A.It increases workload. B.It is good for wildlife. C.It needs deep thinking. D.It is a source of pride. 33.(2.5分)What problem do leaves in landfills cause? A.They produce greenhouse gases. B.They start big fires easily. C.They hurt small insects in the soil. D.They pollute soil directly. 34.(2.5分)What is a benefit of leaf litter? A.It makes grass clean. B.It offers wildlife shelter. C.It reduces yard waste. D.It kills harmful chemicals. 35.(2.5分)What can be a suitable title for the text? A.A Threat Posed by Burning Leaves. B.A Smart Guide to a Clean Lawn. C.The Hidden Gifts of Autumn Leaves. D.The Importance of Garden Wildlife. 根据第一段中“Nothing says “proud homeowner” like a clean, green lawn. A clean lawn shows your care and earns your neighbors’ admiration.(没有什么比干净的绿草坪更能说明“自豪的房主”了。干净的草坪展示你的用心并赢得邻居的赞赏)”可知,房主通常认为干净的草坪是骄傲的来源。 33.细节理解题。根据第二段中“If leaves are buried in landfills, they break down without oxygen and give off harmful greenhouse gases, contributing to global warming.(如果树叶被埋在垃圾填埋场,它们会在缺氧条件下分解并释放有害的温室气体,导致全球变暖)”可知,填埋场中的树叶会产生温室气体。 34. 根据第三段中“Leaf litter shelters insects, spiders and other small creatures, offering critical winter habitats for many species as noted by the Xerces Society.(落叶层为昆虫、蜘蛛和其他小生物提供了庇护所,正如Xerces协会所指出的那样,为许多物种提供了关键的冬季栖息地)”可知,落叶的好处是为野生动物提供庇护所。 35. (本题12.5分)April 8 is International Rare Animal Protection Day. In China, years of conservation efforts have had positive results. Xu Keyi, a Chinese wildlife photographer, shares her stories and thoughts on protecting rare animals through her photographs. As a child, Xu always dreamed of traveling the world with a camera. Before fully taking a career in wildlife photography, she worked as a journalist after earning her master’s degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During a trip to Antarctica, she witnessed penguin parents fearlessly defending their chicks from intruders. 36(2.5分) In 2018, Xu made the life-changing decision to leave her job and pursue wildlife photography full-time. Last year, in Yunnan, Xu went through a tough early morning climb up a mountain to take pictures of the endangered Pavo muticus (绿孔雀). After enduring hours of rain and sweltering heat, she finally reached her destination. She remained perfectly still beneath the plants. 37(2.5分) In the afternoon, when the sun broke out and cast light on the hillside and a male Pavo muticus spread its tail beautifully in the valley, she used her camera to capture the breathtaking beauty. 38(2.5分) Xu aims to inspire greater awareness and involvement among people regarding wildlife protection through her photography. Too often, individuals fail to recognize the significance of a species until it is on the edge of extinction. 39(2.5分) We must not allow this to happen again. With the release of her photo book showcasing a variety of unknown Chinese wildlife species, Xu hopes to encourage more young people to engage in the conservation efforts. 40(2.5分) A.All her efforts paid off. More importantly, the ultimate goal of education is not to make the world adapt to us, but to help us learn to live with the world. We suggest you adjust your mindset and regard bird songs as natural background music. Let us show respect for every small life and grow into more tolerant and gentle people. Yours, Li Hua Possible version 2: Dear Chris, We have received your letter requesting the removal of bird nests on campus. We feel really sorry for the disturbance that the bird songs bring you. We work like men.” Outside stars were beginning to appear. Grandpa climbed on his bicycle. My friend Aslam and I jogged beside him. A sweet smell rose from Mr. Ahmed’s mango trees as we passed. Aslam slowed his jog, picked a few mangoes, and stuffed them into his pockets. I wished I were as lucky as Aslam with his movie-star hair, always making trouble, never getting caught. I wished I were at home, studying for the coming exam. I wished... But Grandpa was counting on me. We needed the money. He worked hard so I could stay in school. When we reached the Lawachara National Park, the moon had risen midway into the sky. We entered the shadows of the forest. Aslam feared there might be tigers behind the trees. I told him they were rarely seen there. He then reminded me of our task of catching pangolins (穿山甲), and warned me not to be overly merciful. He still remembered how I’d saved a snake from those boys the week before. My stomach began to turn. I knew what the traders would do with the pangolin if we found one. “A den (兽穴)is near. Stay and watch. I’m going further on to another.” Grandpa handed Aslam a cardboard box. “Remember, the traders won’t pay for an empty box. They want big pangolins with many scales (鳞). The better the scales, the better the money. I’m counting on you, boys.” Then he walked away. Aslam asked why people would pay so much for pangolins. I told him they thought the scales were magical and could cure all kinds of diseases. Then he went on with his movie-star dream, promising all our money troubles would end once he made it. We chatted away, watching the moon climbing higher into the sky. Paragraph 1: Suddenly we heard a low noise from among the fallen leaves. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: After a while, Grandpa came back and saw the empty box. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Suddenly we heard a low noise from among the fallen leaves. Aslam quickly responded, grabbing the box. We leaned forward and looked hard into the darkness — a pangolin! Aslam hissed my name and signaled me to get it. For a while I held my breath, watching the pangolin sweeping dry leaves with its scaled tail. Aslam pressed me on by reminding me of Grandpa’s words about acting like a man. Yet I just couldn’t bring myself to harm the innocent creature. I tried to convince Aslam it was utterly inhuman to earn money by hunting pangolins. Aslam fell silent, staring at the helpless pangolin, and slowly lowered the box. After a while, Grandpa came back and saw the empty box. He glanced from Aslam to me. His white eyebrows stitched together. Unable to lie to him, I recounted everything in detail. I’d expected a good scolding, but instead I felt Grandpa’s rough hands gently stroking my face. He admitted he never liked the work and had turned to it only to support the family. Then he urged me to stay in school so I’d never have to make a living through something that troubled my conscience. Deeply touched, I promised someday I’d make him proud. The money was gone, but Grandpa’s back no longer looked so “bent” to me. 3.词类激活: 行为类: ①讲述:recount/narrate/describe/relate ②盯着:stare at/fix one’s eyes on 情感类: ①沉默的:silent/dumb ②温柔地:gently/tenderly 【点睛】【高分句型1】 For a while I held my breath, watching the pangolin sweeping dry leaves with its scaled tail.(运用了现在分词作状语) 【高分句型2】 He admitted he never liked the work and had turned to it only to support the family.(运用了省略了that的宾语从句) 2 / 2 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。Wow, you're walking your dog again. Every sunday morning, he goes to the shelter and spends four hours there, and in the afternoon, two hours at first, his main tasks were feeding the animals and cleaning their cages. As he spent more time with the animals, he became interested in helping the vets take care of sick animals. He learned how to check the animals temperatures and give them simple treatments under the vet guidance. But now David's favorite part of volunteering is training homeless dogs. David has always loved animals. Three years ago, he started volunteering at the local animal shelter. Every sunday morning, he goes to the shelter and spends four hours there, and in the afternoon, two hours. At first, his main tasks were feeding the animals and cleaning their cages. As he spent more time with the animals, he became interested in helping the vets take care of sick animals. He learned how to check the animals temperatures and give them simple treatments under the vet guidance. But now David's favorite part of volunteering is training homeless dogs. He teaches them basic commands like sit and stay. Many of these dogs have been adopted by families because of his training. (本题10分)Adoption days are a great way for people to find new pets and for shelter animals to find forever homes. (本题10分)When danger approaches, many creatures seem to follow the ancient proverb that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. (本题10分)Nothing says “proud homeowner” like a clean, green lawn. B.And it is too late by then. C.That trip cost her half of her savings. D.And her camera was set and ready for a perfect shot. E.A good photographer knew how to improve her skills. F.That journey refueled her passion for protecting wildlife. G.The rising involvement of youths fills her with optimism. 三、完形填空 (本题15分)A 90-year-old British woman has dedicated more than half of her life to saving animals of all types. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2 / 2 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
