Tesla’s new Roadster: a car that can fly

The show was at a SpaceX test place. No human drove the prototype (原型车). Instead, an Optimus robot sat in the driver’s seat. Every Chinese New Year, the town of Tongliang in Chongqing becomes the center of attention. Huge dragons made of cloth and bamboo “fly” through the streets with fire and smoke — this is the famous Tongliang Fire Dragon Dance (铜梁火龙), a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产).
Behind the wonderful show is 52-year-old Li Jie, a dragon dancer with over thirty years of experience. When Li was a boy, he often watched the older dancers swing (舞动) the dragons. “I was deeply attracted (吸引),” he says. “I told myself, one day I will make the dragon fly in my hands.” He started training at the age of 16.
The training is hard. The dragon head alone weighs about 10 kilograms, and dancers must run, jump and turn for a long time under the flying sparks (火花). Burns and tiredness are common. “Sometimes I couldn’t lift my arms after practice,” Li remembers. “But I never thought of giving up, because the fire dragon is the pride of our hometown. Besides, I am really into it.”
Now, Li worries that few young people want to learn the art. To pass it down, he teaches dragon dance in local schools for free and puts short videos of performances online. “The dragon dance is not just a show,” he says. “It carries our culture and the spirit (精神) of working together. I hope more young people will pick it up and make it fly higher.”

Fengxiang clay art is a special traditional art form in Shanxi Province, China. It’s famous for its bright colors and cute animal shapes, and has a history of over 2,000 years! Let’s explore this amazing art form.
Fengxiang clay sculptures (雕塑) are handmade from natural clay. They are often shaped into zodiac animals (生肖动物), such as tigers and rabbits, and painted with red, green, yellow, and black patterns (图案). People in Fengxiang call them mud toys (泥货). But these sculptures are not just toys — they mean good luck and protection in Chinese culture.
Making Fengxiang clay sculptures needs skills and patience. Here’s how artists do it.
First, prepare the clay. Artists usually use a special clay called Banban Tu from the local (当地的) mountains. The clay is mixed with water and paper fibers (纤维) to make it soft and strong.
Second, shape the clay. Artists press (按压) the clay into molds (模具) or carve (雕刻) animals by hand. For example, a tiger sculpture is made in two halves and then joined together.
Third, paint with colors. After drying, the sculptures are painted white first. Then, patterns are drawn with black ink, and filled with bright colors like red (for happiness) and green (for health).
Last, add protection. Usually, clear varnish (清漆) is brushed on to keep the colors shiny.
