We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time. Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively a short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular, the forehead will grow larger. Nowadays our eyes are in use constantly. In fact, we use them so much that very often they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over a very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger. On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life. But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in the course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. Perhaps all these give the impression that in the future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own. 24. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Man’s life will be different in the future. B. Future man will look quite different from us. C. Man is growing taller and uglier as time passes. D. Man’s organs, functions will be useless in the future. 25. What serves as the evidence that man is changing? A. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had. B. Man’s hair is getting thinner and thinner. C. Man’s arms and legs have become lighter and weaker. D. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years. 26. Which of the following is TRUE about a human being in the future? A. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful. B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses. C. He thinks and feels in quite different ways from us. D. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t have to use them. 27. What can we infer from the passage? A. Human beings will become less attractive in the future. B. Less use of a bodily organ may lead to its degeneration (退化). C. Human beings all hope for a change in the future life. D. We are certain about our future life and appearance. B 25. D 26. A 27. 通读全文,尤其是第一段“What will man be like in the future— in 5,000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.(未来,5000年甚至5万年以后,人类会是什么样子?当然,我们只能猜测,但我们可以肯定,人类将会与今天的他有所不同,因为人类一直在缓慢地变化)”可知,以及下文对人类身体部分的变化描述,本文主要介绍未来的人与现在的人的样子不一样。故选B项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively a short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. (即使在五百年前,人类也比现在矮。现在,男性的平均身高约为3英寸。500年是相对较短的一段时间,所以我们可以假设人类会继续长高)”可知,通过与500年前的先人比较,人类的样子正在变化,并且将继续变化。故选D项。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段“But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in the course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. (但是头发呢?随着时间的推移,它可能会从身体中完全消失,因为它不再有任何有用的用途)”可知,未来人没有头发,因为头发不再有用。故选A项。 根据第四段“On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. (另一方面,我们倾向于较少使用我们的胳膊和腿。其结果是,这些身体部分可能会变得更弱)”可推知,胳膊和腿这些身体器官因为较少使用,可能会退化。故选B项。 C No one ever said science education was easy. Certainly the concepts we teach, like conservation of momentum (动量守恒) or quantum mechanics (量子力学),can be hard to grasp. But what really makes our reaching complicated is that we're also trying to teach a deeper lesson at the same time — to help students understand the nature of science itself. All too often, young people get the impression that science is about learning certain "laws" and then applying them to different situations. After all, that's what we make them do on tests, to show that they've been doing the work. But that's not it at all. Science is the process of building these concepts through the collection of experimental evidence. And while I'm on it let's call these concepts what they really are — not laws, but models. Science is all about building and testing models. It's difficult to help students understand that aspect of science when we just give them the models to begin with. Sure, in physics we often include historical or mathematical evidence to support big ideas, but that often isn't enough. Of course, we can't start from scratch. If students had to build their own models from the ground up, it would be like trying to learn programming by inventing computers. As Isaac Newton is supposed to have said, we stand on the shoulders of giants. We must take models built by others and go from there. What I'd like to suggest is that this actually provides a great way into the adventure of science and an opportunity to meet our objectives as educators. If you can create a situation that challenges students' assumptions and produces conceptual conflict, that's a great opportunity for learning. 28. What is the misunderstanding of teaching science? A. It's complicated. B. It focuses on the nature of science. C. It's very difficult. D. It lies in teaching and testing “laws”. 29. Which way to teach science is highly recommended by the author? A. Encouraging students to always start from scratch. B. Providing students with some models to follow suit. C. Guiding students to begin with models built by others. D. Offering students proof to support important concepts. 30. The author cites Isaac Newton's words to . A. justify the experiment B. praise the statement C. show the achievement D. support the argument 31. What is the best title of the passage? A. Science teaching B. Concept building C. Science learning D. Concept conflicting 【答案】28. D 29. C 30. D 31. 根据第二段“All too often, young people get the impression that science is about learning certain "laws" and then applying them to different situations. 根据第四段“Of course, we can't start from scratch.(我们当然不能从头开始)”及“We must take models built by others and go from there.(我们必须借鉴前人已经建立的模型并且从他们那里开始)”可知,作者反对让学生平地筑高楼的方法,认为难度过大。 根据第一段“No one ever said science education was easy.(没人曾说过科学教育是简单的)”可知,文章从第一段就引入“科学教学”。 故选A项。 D A Rhode Island grower is the first in the world to achieve three records in the hobby of growing enormous foods. The three world records consist of the heaviest pumpkin and the longest gourd (葫芦). And now it includes the heaviest squash (倭瓜) . Joe Jutras previously broke two records. Joe got his third last weekend when he broke the giant squash record. It weighed 2,118pounds. This was at Frerichs Farm in Warren last Saturday. His other titles came in 2006. That is when he broke the record for the longest gourd. It was a 126.5-inch gourd. In 2007, he broke the record for the largest pumpkin. It weighed in all 1,689 pounds. Both previous records have since been surpassed. But Jutras is the only grower so far to break world records in the three most competitive categories. “It feels great,” Jutras said Monday. “It’s really been a goal of mine to try to achieve this.” Jutras has been working on the three records for a decade, since his pumpkin won. He was close to the goal a few years ago. But he failed. Now 62, Jutras recently retired from his work as a high-end cabinetmaker. He wants to devote more time to his hobby. Jutras noted that others had won multiple world records for fruit and vegetables before. But they won in categories such as carrots that are not as competitive. Jutras says his fruit is headed to New York City. It will be on display this month at the New York Botanical Garden. Asked what he plans to do next, he says he’s been thinking about the bushel gourd. “I think the record now is about 279 pounds,” Jutras said. “That might be something I might want to get into a bit.” 32. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 mean? A. The records Jutras set in 2006 and 2007 have been broken by others. B. Jutras was awarded a lot of money for the two records. C. Jutras is determined to break his previous records. D. No one else can compare with Jutras. 33. How do you find Jutras? A. He is brave and competitive. B. He is creative and generous. C. He is determined and ambitious. D. He is excellent and light-hearted. 34. What can we know according to Paragraph 7? A. Jutras is proud of his records. B. Jutras thinks highly of other people’s achievements. C. Jutras will experiment with carrots. D. Jutras will break more records for fruit and vegetables. 35. What can we infer from the passage? A. Jutras’ hobby is making cabinets. B. Jutras is aimed to set a new world record in a bushel gourd. C. Jutras will work at the New York Botanical Garden. D. Jutras will feed more people. A 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第三段“His other titles came in 2006. That is when he broke the record for the longest gourd. It was a 126.5-inch gourd. In 2007, he broke the record for the largest pumpkin. It weighed in all1, 689 pounds.(他的其他头衔出现在2006年。那一年,他打破了最长葫芦的纪录。那是一个126.5英寸的葫芦。2007年,他打破了最大南瓜的纪录。这个南瓜总重1689磅。)”以及第四段“But Jutras is the only grower so far to break world records in the three most competitive categories.(但Jutras是迄今为止唯一一个在三个最具竞争力类别中打破世界纪录的种植者。)” 根据第五段““It feels great,” Jutras said Monday. “It’s really been a goal of mine to try to achieve this.”(“感觉很棒,”朱塔斯周一说。“实现这一点确实一直是我的目标。”)” 以及第六段“Jutras has been working on the three records for a decade, since his pumpkin won. He was close to the goal a few years ago. But he failed.(自从南瓜夺冠后,朱塔斯为这三项纪录努力了十年。几年前他距离目标很近,但失败了。)”可知,Jutras意志坚定且有远大抱负。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第七段“Jutras noted that others had won multiple world records for fruit and vegetables before. But they won in categories such as carrots that are not as competitive.(朱塔斯指出,以前也有人多次拿下蔬果的世界纪录。但他们夺冠的项目是胡萝卜这类竞争没那么激烈的品类。)”可知,Jutras为自己取得的纪录感到自豪。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据第九段“Asked what he plans to do next, he says he’s been thinking about the bushel gourd.(当被问及下一步打算时,他说他一直在考虑蒲式耳葫芦。)” 和第十段““I think the record now is about 279 pounds,” Jutras said. “That might be something I might want to get into a bit.”(“我认为目前这项纪录大约是279磅,”朱塔斯说,“这或许是我想尝试去挑战的目标。”)” Last Sunday I was thinking about the difference between successful people and those who don’t achieve anything significant. I made an interesting discovery. This difference may at first look obvious, but the fact is quite the opposite. ___36___ Everyone has a purpose behind their actions. If they don’t, they wouldn’t take action. ___37___ When they take action, at the back of their minds they think about success that this action is going to bring them. ___38___ What’s the purpose behind your actions? Do you work to thrive (蓬勃发展) or to survive? Do you go to work to feed your family or to create an amazing lifestyle? Different purposes will result in completely different life experiences. People who work to survive are the ones who fear that some unexpected bill will arrive. They go to bed worrying about money and unimportant things. They hate their employment but don’t quit because they doubt their own ability to create something greater. I know this kind of feeling because I was like that once. That’s a very uncomfortable state to be in because you are constantly worried about insignificant things. ___39___ Therefore, you cannot achieve anything great. Now there are some people who don’t accept the “Life is hard” story and they are fueled by an entirely different purpose. They work to thrive. ___40___ They have a beautiful vision and they take constant action to make that vision a reality. A. So let me ask you a few questions. B. This state does not allow you to be creative. C. It lies in what motivates people to take action. D. Such an attitude invites great opportunities to you. E. And they don’t think about why something cannot be done. F. And this makes you take even more or better quality action. G. But successful people have a completely different purpose behind their actions. C 37. G 38. A 39. B 40. 【36题详解】 由上一句“This difference may at first look obvious, but the fact is quite the opposite.”(这种差别乍一看可能很明显,但事实恰恰相反。)和下一句“Everyone has a purpose behind their actions.”(每个人的行为背后都有一个目的。) 由上两句“Everyone has a purpose behind their actions. If they don’t, they wouldn’t take action.”(每个人的行为背后都有一个目的。 和下一句“When they take action, at the back of their minds they think about success that this action is going to bring them.”(当他们采取行动时,他们会在心底想着这个行动将给他们带来的成功。) 【38题详解】 由下面三句“What’s the purpose behind your actions? Do you work to thrive (蓬勃发展) or to survive? Do you go to work to feed your family or to create an amazing lifestyle?”(你行动的目的是什么? 故选A项。 【39题详解】 由上一句“That’s a very uncomfortable state to be in because you are constantly worried about insignificant things.”(这是一种非常不舒服的状态,因为你总是担心一些无关紧要的事情。) 【40题详解】 由上面两句“Now there are some people who don’t accept the “Life is hard” story and they are fueled by an entirely different purpose. They work to thrive.”(现在有一些人不接受“生活艰难”的说法,他们的动机完全不同。 和下一句“They have a beautiful vision and they take constant action to make that vision a reality.”(他们有一个美丽的愿景,他们会不断采取行动,使这一愿景成为现实。) Gabi Rizea became a wood carver completely by accident. Three years ago, after ___41___ himself with a new chainsaw (链锯), he started “playing” with it on the ___42___ he had in his workshop. Now, select one of the composers listed on the chalkboard. And after class, find a tape containing the composition created by the composer. During the test, use the tape player to play the composition. When the music starts, imagine you are the conductor of an orchestra that performs the composer’s music.” And then she smiled, “You’ll receive the test in front of your classmates.” “What? A test in front of the classmates? It will kill me,” I said to myself. Although normally I performed well in music, and often have high marks, I am quite a shy girl. After a short while, I took a deep breath and scanned the list of names on the chalkboard. One name caught my attention. “Who’s that person?” I wondered. I didn’t know, but that was going to be my choice. Seated in the classroom, I fixed my eyes on that name anxiously, hoping no one would announce that name. Finally, it was my turn. I said without a second thought, “Johannes Brahms.” Once I said the name, panic washed over me. I sighed, “How am I going to do this? I know nothing about the person and his composition. But I have to perform in front of my classmates and teacher.” Later in the day, I went to a store and bought a tape that contained Johannes Brahms’s compositions and its relevant music notation (乐谱). Back home, I played the tape, and tried to get familiar with the composition. When listening to the composition and looking at the music score, I held a stick and moved my arms to and fro (来回地), pretending to be guiding an orchestra. During the following days, I kept practicing but didn’t perform quite well. The composition was indeed hard to me. When the big day came, I felt nervous as I slipped into my seat and waited for my turn to perform. Eventually, Mrs. Palin called my name, “Jill, it’s your turn.” Then, I forced myself to walk to the front of the classroom. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, Mrs. Palin handed each student a piece of paper with a score. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】例文: Then, I forced myself to walk to the front of the classroom. Standing in front of all the students made me very nervous, and my legs kept shaking. To make the matter worse, my brain went blank at that very moment, forgetting my previous practice. However, I tried to remind myself to be calm. After a few deep breaths, I felt much better and began to perform. Finally, the performance was over. Thinking my conduct must be terrible, I was even unwilling to think about the result. The next day, Mrs. Palin handed each student a piece of paper with a score. With my report card in hand, my heart pounded because I was afraid that I would be the one who got the lowest score. I closed my eyes and slowly opened my report card. To my surprise, I got a high score. When the teacher announced that I was the best in my class, I almost jumped with joy. I understood that only by working hard can we get good results. 词类激活 行为类 ①颤抖:shake/tremble ②宣布:announce/declare 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】【高分句型1】Thinking my conduct must be terrible, I was even unwilling to think about the result.(运用了现在分词作状语、省略that的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】With my report card in hand, my heart pounded because I was afraid that I would be the one who got the lowest score.(运用了with复合结构、because引导原因状语从句、that引导宾语从句、who引导定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $单元综合测评第一部分听力。 Text one, I have . been learning . chinese since last year, but I still can't speak IT well. B What will man be like in the future — in 5,000 or even 50000 years from now? C No one ever said science education was easy. Concept conflicting D A Rhode Island grower is the first in the world to achieve three records in the hobby of growing enormous foods. Last Sunday I was thinking about the difference between successful people and those who don’t achieve anything significant. Gabi Rizea became a wood carver completely by accident. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
