Yang Changqin turned a childhood dream into a career. The 36-year-old is now a master bamboo weaver (编织者).
Born in Guizhou Province, Yang loved handicrafts (手工艺) as a child. After trying different jobs, she gave up her kindergarten teaching job, and started learning traditional bamboo weaving at about 18.
Bamboo weaving turns bamboo pieces into useful and pretty objects through skilled handwork. It makes everyday objects such as chairs, baskets and other tools in houses.
Yang remembered how hard it was at the beginning. She found it hard to control the knife and often cut her hands. But she kept working and improving until the skills came easily to her. In 2012, she set up her brand (品牌) Jizhu. Its bamboo paintings, handbags and lamps soon became popular.
But starting a business also meant learning new skills. She mixed traditional skills with modern technology to make her products special, and also learned to manage production and reach more customers outside her hometown.
As more young people take an interest in intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) and run brands themselves, Yang encourages them to use their power to bring traditional crafts into modern life.

Passage 6
(2026·河北邯郸·一模)阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Have you ever thought about what kind of job you would like to have when you grow up? Many people think that we can only have one job in our lifetime. We all know that this is not true, but quite a few people actually think this way. For example, when people choose a major (专业) in college, they think that the decisions they make now will decide their jobs for the rest of their lives. However, there are many examples where people became successful after changing their careers (职业) later in life.
J.K. Rowling, writer of the famous novel Harry Potter, was a school teacher before she began writing books. In fact, she was out of work before the first Harry Potter book came out.
Former US President Ronald Reagan began as an actor when he was a young man. He later discovered a deep passion (激情) for public service which led him to become President of the United States.
The famous 19th-century artist Vincent Van Gogh was not a painter from the beginning. He once worked as an art salesman and later became a preacher (牧师). It was only 10 years before he died that he decided to become an artist.
Careers are always open to change. The important thing is to find what you are really good at or what you really want to do. Once you find the answer, it’s all a matter of how hard you try
1.What did many people become after changing their careers later in life?
2.What was J.K. Rowling before writing books?
3.What led Ronald Reagan to become the president?
4.How long was Vincent Van Gogh’s career as an artist?
5.If you want to change your job, what question would you ask yourself?
Passage 7
(2025·重庆·一模)阅读下文并回答问题。
In the city center, firefighters quickly get ready when they hear the alarm. Within 60 seconds they are dressed and rushing to a burning building. Even though they know the floors might collapse and the ceilings could fall, they still have to go inside. One wrong decision might mean death.
Who would do a job like that? Ask firefighter Sam Telfer. One month ago, he signed up for the job. He used to sit in an office of a software company, but now he is trained to break into rooms full of smoke and heat and come up with a rescue strategy.
“I wanted a job where I could be active, work with my hands, learn new practical skills, and face different challenges every day,” That’s quite an understatement (保守说法) to describe a career that requires you to keep a cool head while fighting against a fire. But Telfer says that flames (火焰) and nerves can be controlled in the same way: through continuous physical and mental training.
Telfer was a runner in college, but now he trains his lungs for dangerous situations instead of races. He has to climb hundreds of steps while wearing 34 kilograms of gear, like oxygen tanks. He also needs to carry unconscious people to safety. No matter what he’s doing, he has to control his breathing. Panic (恐慌) will only waste his limited air supply.
His survival depends on more than just being physically fit. Firefighters need a lot of mental preparation too. When they are not dealing with emergencies, they study many subjects like emergency medicine, structural design, and chemical reactions. They practice quickly assessing (评估) the changing conditions of a fire.
Shifting from a software expert to a first responder was a big change for Telfer. But he says, “I have never once felt that this isn’t the right job for me.” Even though danger might be waiting every day, his body and mind are trained to stay calm, even in the middle of a fierce fire.
1.Do firefighters have to get ready within sixty seconds after hearing the alarm?
2.When did Sam Telfer become a firefighter?
3.How can a firefighter stay alive in a big fire?
4.Does Sam Telfer love the job as a firefighter? Give your reasons.

3.How can a firefighter stay alive in a big fire?
4.Does Sam Telfer love the job as a firefighter? Give your reasons.
