拓展提高(课内同源 + 课外同源)
Passage1(课内同源:同一道难题的两种反应)
In the same maths class, the same hard geometry problem appeared on the blackboard, and two students, Ma Liang and Gao Xin, faced it in very different ways. / Ma Liang stared at it for ten seconds and closed his book. “I'm just not a maths person,” he told himself. “No matter how hard I try, people like me can't solve this kind of problem.” He spent the rest of the class copying the answer when it appeared, and forgot the problem the next day. / Gao Xin also failed at the first attempt — and the second. But she said something different to herself: “I can't solve it yet.” She drew a diagram, tried a new formula, and finally went to ask the teacher a precise question: “Is my first step wrong, or my second one?” After class she redid the problem from the beginning, and this time the lines fitted together beautifully. / Their teacher, Ms Fang, says the difference between the two students is not intelligence but mindset. Ma Liang has a fixed mindset: he believes ability is born and cannot change, so every difficulty feels like a judgement on his talent. Gao Xin has a growth mindset: she believes the brain grows stronger with effort, so difficulty is not a danger but a workout. / “The word ‘yet’ is small, but it is powerful,” says Ms Fang. If students learn to say “I can't do it yet” instead of “I can't do it”, a hard problem stops being a wall and becomes a ladder — and every climber grows a little taller.

Passage2(课外同源:德韦克与成长型思维)
Carol Dweck is a psychology professor at Stanford University in the United States. For more than thirty years, she has studied a simple but surprising question: why do some students give up easily while others enjoy challenges? Her research led to two famous ideas — the fixed mindset and the growth mindset. / In one of her well-known studies, she and her team gave hundreds of children the same puzzles. After they succeeded, one group was praised for intelligence: “You must be smart at this.” The other group was praised for effort: “You must have worked hard.” Then the puzzles became harder. The children praised for intelligence began to avoid difficult tasks, and their scores dropped; the children praised for effort chose harder puzzles and improved. / In 2006, Dweck collected decades of research in her book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, which is known in Chinese as 《终身成长》. In the book, she explains that people with a fixed mindset believe talent is fixed, so they fear failure and hide mistakes. People with a growth mindset believe abilities can be developed, so they welcome challenges and learn from criticism. / Her advice to parents and teachers is practical: praise the effort, the strategies and the progress, not the cleverness. Say “I like the way you tried three different methods,” instead of “You are a genius.” Whether you are a student or an adult, the mindset you choose decides how you face the next hard problem — as a final judgement, or as a chance to grow.

任务四范文:Last term, I failed the physics exam and felt very sad. For a few days, I wanted to give up the subject completely. Then my teacher told me about the growth mindset: our brains grow stronger when we face hard problems. I decided to believe in myself and try again. I redid all my wrong questions and asked my deskmate to check my answers. When the next exam came, I got 85 — not perfect, but much better. Now I know that “I can't do it yet” is much stronger than “I can't do it”.
