Passage1
Inventions That Changed Our Days
English
Every day we use objects that once seemed impossible. Paper, printing, electricity and the Internet all began as someone's idea, and each of them changed the way people live.
Take paper as an example. Before paper was invented, people in China wrote on bamboo pieces or silk. Bamboo was heavy and silk was expensive. When paper appeared, knowledge became easier to keep and carry, and more people could afford to learn to read.
Printing went one step further. With printing, a book no longer had to be copied by hand, so ideas could travel faster than ever. Centuries later, the Internet did something similar: it made information reach almost every corner of the world in seconds.
Not every invention is famous, however. A better water pump, a stronger bicycle light or a cheaper way to store food can improve daily life just as much. Great inventions do not always look great at first; most of them simply solve a real problem for ordinary people.
Inventions also change as people use them. The first bicycles had no pedals, and the first phones could only make calls. Users kept finding new needs, and inventors kept answering them. In this way, a simple idea can grow into something that nobody could have imagined at the start.

Drones: Helpers in the Sky
English
A drone is a small aircraft without a pilot on board. At first, drones were mostly used by armies. Today, however, they have become useful helpers in many parts of our lives.
In the countryside, farmers use drones to spray water or medicine over their fields. A drone can cover a large area in a short time, which saves both time and water. In cities, drones deliver medicine to hospitals and help firefighters find people in thick smoke.
Drones are also helpful after disasters. When an earthquake breaks roads, a drone can fly over the damaged area and send back pictures. Rescue teams can then decide where to go first, without putting themselves in danger.
Still, drones bring problems. They may hit birds, fall on people, or film others without permission. That is why many countries have made rules about where and when drones can fly. Used carefully, these small machines can make our world safer and more convenient.
For young people, drones are more than toys. Learning to fly one safely teaches patience, careful planning and respect for rules. Some students even build their own drones and test them in competitions. Who knows? The next great use of drones may come from a classroom like yours.

Livestreamer Dong Yuhui wins hearts over a controversy
“顶流”主播董宇辉的上升之路
Dong Yuhui, a 30-year-old livestreaming (直播) host for East Buy (东方甄选), found himself in an online controversy (争议) that began on Dec 5.
East Buy, a subsidiary (子公司) of New Oriental Education (新东方教育科技集团), said that many of the things Dong said in his livestreams were written by the East Buy team, not by himself. The then-CEO, Sun Dongxu, criticized Dong and the team, which made Dong’s fans upset.
Surprisingly, this controversy made Dong even more popular. In just one week, his Douyin followers (关注者) increased by over 3 million, while East Buy lost more than 2 million followers. Sun was no longer the CEO, and Dong became vice president (副总裁) of New Oriental’s cultural and tourism business.
Despite his rising fame, Dong remains humble. “I am not good-looking or tall; I don’t know why I have so many supporters,” he said.
However, Xu Hanze, an associate professor (副教授) at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (南京航空航天大学), believes that Dong got more attention because of his talent and intelligence, thanks to his habit of reading extensively.
In the age of consumerism (消费主义), Dong does not trick consumers into buying unnecessary products, but encourages them to be rational (理性的) when shopping online. He also puts more effort into educational activities and events to help farmers.
He believes that people should not wish to be the next Dong Yuhui. “I want to tell other young livestreamers that they do not need to be me, as each story is moving in its own way.”
He went on to say that people are not products made on manufacturing lines, and that diversity (不同) is what makes people special.

Passage3
On January 28, 2025, something amazing happened on Chinese TV. During the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, a very popular TV show, people saw a dance called “Yang BOT”. Famous movie director Zhang Yimou made this show.
This special show mixed an old Chinese dance called “yangko” with new robot technology. Yangko is a joyful and traditional dance from the north of China. People often dance it during holidays. In the show, humanoid robots (robots shaped like humans) who wear bright and colorful clothes danced yangko. The robots waved colorful handkerchiefs (手帕) very fast and made interesting shapes together.
These robots were developed by Unitree (宇树科技), a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree’s first success. Back in 2021, Unitree made robot cows named “Ben Ben”. These robot cows danced behind the famous singer Andy Lau. They moved in a funny way but the performance weren’t very smooth then.

Passage4
In the summer of 1978, an English man named Steven was driving his tractor through a field of wheat when he discovered something strange. Some of his wheat was lying on the ground. The flattened wheat formed a circle about six meters across. Around this circle were four smaller circles of flattened wheat.
Three years later, a farmer who lived nearby discovered almost the same circles in one of his fields. These circles were larger—nearly 15 meters across. In the Same year, another English farmer discovered three circles of flattened wheat on his land—one large circle between two small circles. During the following years, farmers in England found circles in their fields more and more often.
The circles are called “crop circles” because they usually appear in fields of wheat or corn. The wheat in the circles lies on the ground but is never broken; it keeps on growing, and the farmers can later harvest it. Farmers always discover the crop circles in the morning, so the circles probably form at night. They appear only in the months from May to September. What cause the crop circles?
At first, people thought that some kids were making them as a joke, or that farmers were making them to attract tourists. (In fact, in 1991, two men said they made the circles themselves, but many scientists don’t believe them.), and they couldn’t flatten the wheat without breaking it.
For several times, people reported seeing strange objects near the fields where crop circles later appeared. Many people believe that these crop circles are the messages sent by living things for outer space or the marks left by their spaceships.
Scientists who have studied the crop circles try to find out what causes them. In the summer of 1990, some scientists spent three weeks in the part of England where many circles have appeared. They had all the latest high-tech equipment The equipment-worth 1.8 million dollars—got nothing. But one night, crop circles formed in the field behind them, which were quite different from the others. The scientists had neither seen nor heard anything.
When Steven discovered the crop circles on his land in 1978, he said, “It was just like something that had landed in the field from the air and gone back up again. I don’t know what to make of these things.”
Crop circles have appeared in England, Japan, the United States and Russia. Experts from all over the world have studied them, and they say what Steven said: we don’t know what to make of these things.
13.Which picture is probably the one formed in the field behind the scientists?
A. B. C. D.
14.“Flattened wheat” means ________.
A.harvested wheat B.growing wheat C.broken wheat D.lying wheat
15.Which of the following sentences is NOT true according to the passage?

D.The wheat in the circles can keep on growing.
16.The passage is mainly about something ________.
A.that is discovered and copied by the farmer
B.that is done by living things from outer space
C.that cannot be solved but found all around the world
D.that cannot be made clear or understood
Passage5
In a factory in Germany, something unusual is happening. Every machine on the production line is under the watch of intelligent sensors If a robot uses too much electricity, the intelligent program will slow it down to reduce energy waste. If an important part begins to wear out, workers will get a warning before it breaks down. With these digital tools, the factory has not only cut its electricity use by 20% but also increased its production to a record high, showing the great power of joining technology and sustainability
This is more than just a factory story. Experts name it the “twin transition (转型)”. It connects digital transition and sustainability in a way that not only focuses on using digital tools or saving energy. Instead, it aims to use digital technologies to help protect our planet. What makes this transition special is that it turns the once-separate goals of technological progress and environmental protection into a united task that benefits both businesses and the earth.
The idea is already being used in the “digital twin”, a virtual replica (虚拟副本) of a real machine in which robots can practice and repeat difficult tasks again and again without wasting any materials or risking harm to real parts. The technology records all effective actions and removes ineffective ones. After enough virtual tests, the robot can perform perfectly in the real world. It cuts down material waste and stops breakdowns, which would need expensive repairs under normal conditions.
However, the twin transition is not a perfect solution by itself. Although digital tools help people complete tasks with less effort and better results, people may end up using them more often, leading to increased energy use in the long run, a problem known as the “rebound effect.” Another challenge is the “digital divide.” Both developed and poorer areas have tried the twin transition, but poorer areas are short of high-speed Internet and practical digital skills. As a result, they cannot get the same benefits from the transition as developed areas do.
To solve these problems, experts suggest that good leadership and proper education are key. Companies need leaders with an understanding of both technology and the natural world. Schools should teach students how to use digital tools to solve environmental problems. In fact, there is no need for technological progress to clash with nature. With the right actions, the twin transition will guide us toward a more sustainable and intelligent future.
17.Why does the writer talk about the factory in Germany in Paragraph 1?
A.To introduce a new idea. B.To prove a common view.
C.To compare two situations. D.To advise on general matters.
18.According to the passage, what is a good example of the “twin transition”?
A.Providing high-speed Internet to poor areas to close the digital divide.
B.Training students to use digital tools to solve environmental problems.
C.Using green energy to produce more electricity for industrial machines.
D.Practicing tasks on a virtual copy of a machine to prevent material waste.
19.What does the underlined word “clash” in the last paragraph most probably mean?
A.Mix. B.Trade. C.Fight. D.Connect.
20.Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?
A.Joining Technology and Nature: A New Way
B.Going Green: A Smarter Way with Digital Tools
C.Transition and Sustainability: Goals of Companies
D.Digital Twin: A Virtual Replica for Robot Practice
Passage6
②AI played an important part in this surgery. By studying lots of medical data (数据), AI helps doctors plan the surgery, predict problems that could happen, and find the ways to solve them.
③During the surgery, AI also tells the doctors the patient’s necessary information, like heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen levels. If anything of the patient goes wrong, it can warn doctors and suggest to change the plan.
④Another key role in this surgery was supercomputer technology. Remote surgeries need fast data transmission (传送), as even small delays (延迟) can be dangerous. Supercomputing can quickly deal with a lot of data, making sure that the surgery pictures are clear and the doctors’ orders are followed at once.
⑤The robot does an excellent job in this surgery. It has one arm and one hole, which makes the cut smaller, making less pain and speeding up the process for the patient to get better. It also increases the chances of a successful surgery and lowers the risk of accidents.
⑥This kind of surgery is a huge excitement, especially for people in remote areas. It means that patients don’t have to travel far for good medical care, saving time and being treated in time.
⑦And for places with fewer doctors, this kind of surgery also brings good news as doctors from bigger cities can help with surgeries and train local doctors. This kind of surgery is important for improving healthcare everywhere.
21.How does the writer lead into AI-powered remote surgery?
A.By giving reasons. B.By telling a story. C.By listing numbers. D.By giving an example.
22.Which of the following questions is answered in Paragraph 4?
A.Why does the surgery need the help of supercomputer?
B.Where was the surgery performed?
C.How’s the normal computer different from the supercomputer?
D.When is the best time for the supercomputer to deal with the data?
23.What is the theme of the passage?
A.Art. B.Culture. C.Travel. D.Technology.
24.Which of the following shows the structure of this passage?

Passage7
AI (Artificial Intelligence) and machine learning refer to the ability of machines to learn and act intelligently. It means they can make decisions, finish tasks, and even tell the possible future results based on what they learn from the data (数据).
AI and machine learning already play a bigger role in everyday life than you might imagine. Health care, banking, video games, every search on the Internet you make…, all are driven by AI.
AI is going to change almost every field of modern life. A famous scientist once said, “Success in creating AI would be the biggest event in human history.” And he added at once, “Unluckily, it might also be the last, unless we learn how to avoid the risks.”
As we know, there are possible huge risks for society and human life, especially when you consider some countries are racing to develop AI-enabled autonomous weapons It is also going to change and take the place of many human jobs. The same worries also come from the public. According to the survey conducted by Centre for the Governance of AI, 91% of the people (tend to and totally) agree that “AI is a technology that requires careful management” in Europe.
But rather than agreeing with an idea of a helpless future where all human jobs are given over to robots, some people believe AI will make our working lives better. It will improve the work of humans, and new jobs will appear to take the place of the old ones.
What’s more, machines become more intelligent and they are able to finish more human tasks.
Things, which only belong to humans like creativity and critical (批判性的) thought will become even more valuable in the future. Like it or not, AI is here. Maybe changing ourselves and managing it well are the best way out.
Just as Benjamin Franklin once said, “When you’ve finished changing, you’re finished.”
25.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A.AI is widely used in daily life. B.People face risks of using AI.
C.The management of AI is hard. D.AI has replaced human.
26.According to the chart (图表) and Paragraph 4, what percentage of people ________ disagree the careful management of AI?
A.5% B.91% C.4% D.9%
27.What do you know from the underlined sentence?
A.AI will become less valuable than people expected.
B.AI will become more intelligent than humans.
C.Humans have some special abilities that AI doesn’t have.
D.Humans will be replaced by AI in the future.
28.Which of the following shows the structure of this text? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
Passage8
②Police can use software (软件) to age photos of missing people, but it seems to work best in adults, as age-related changes of adult faces are much easier to predict and to make.
③Unlike adults, the faces of children change greatly as time goes by, and matching photos of found children to old images (画像) in a database (数据库) of missing children is difficult. “Even with a recent face image of a child, it is quite hard for a human to recognize (辨认), visually, who the child is from a large data set of child face images,” says Debayan Deb at Michigan State University.
④Now Deb and his teammates have created an algorithm (算法) to work out the problem. They created a face-recognition algorithm on data sets, which have images of nearly 1,000 children between 2 and 18 years old. And they took photos of them at least four times over a period of six years.
⑤AI learned to match recent photographs of children with images taken 2.5 years earlier. The correct matching rate can be 80 percent. With one year between the two photographs, it was 90 percent correct at recognizing faces. This dropped to 73 percent after three years. The new AI might help to improve accuracy (准确性) of this kind of software, too.
⑥Deb’s next goal (目标) is to make the age gap wider. His team also hopes to develop an app to fight against the sale of children.
29.What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 1 refer to?
A.School children. B.The missing children.
C.The children’s faces. D.The last-known photos.
30.Why does Deb’s team do the research according to paragraph 4?
A.To make it easier to match missing children with old photos.
B.To build a database to find the missing children.
C.To help the police change and improve their software.
D.To tell the difference between adults and children.
31.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Deb’s team has already made the age gap wider.
B.AI can help to improve accuracy of matching rate.
C.Deb and his team will still work hard to develop a new app.
D.It is hard to recognize a found child even with a recent image.
32.Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.

A.Crop circles are always discovered in the morning.
B.The crop circles maybe form at night.
C.Crop circles have appeared all over the world.
D.The wheat in the circles can keep on growing.
16.The passage is mainly about something ________.
A.that is discovered and copied by the farmer
B.that is done by living things from outer space
C.that cannot be solved but found all around the world

①Can you imagine a doctor performing a surgery (手术) on a patient thousands of kilometers away? A recent surgery was done by doctors in Chengdu. Using a robotic technology, the doctors saved a patient in Lhasa (拉萨). With the development of AI-powered remote surgery (人工智能辅助远程手术), modern healthcare has changed in a big way.

①As missing children get older, they become quite different from the faces in their last-known photographs, which makes finding them really difficult. Now AI (人工智能) can make it easier to match any found children to those old photos.
A. B.
C. D.
