You have shown me what a family man is, always giving the best to the family even when tired. You have also shown me a caring husband’s love for his wife. I have never heard you treat Grandma disrespectfully.

① Sitting through a family dinner, your uncle suddenly starts talking about different topics like an expert. But everything he knows is from TikTok. After exams, one classmate is sure to do well. But he ends up with far lower marks than expected. Sounds familiar? This kind of behavior is called the Dunning-Kruger effect.
② In 1995, a man named Wheeler robbed a bank with lemon juice on his face. He believed it would make him not be seen. This inspired two psychologists (心理学家) David Dunning and Justin Kruger to do some experiments. They asked people to tell how well they did in certain tasks. The results showed people with poor skills often thought they did much better than they actually did. They failed to see their own shortcomings, which made them too confident.
③ Later, people used a simple graph (图表) to show this effect. It clearly tells us the link between our actual knowledge and our self-confidence. When we know very little about something, our confidence rises to quite a high point. We may even believe we know everything. Digging deeper, we begin to realize how difficult the topic truly is, and our confidence drops. At this point, we start questioning ourselves. Only when we keep learning can our ability and confidence rise in a healthy way.
④ This is not just a psychological phenomenon (现象) for strangers or uncles at dinner—it is a mistake that everyone may easily fall into. Have you ever laughed at your classmates’ mistakes without realizing your own? Have you ever turned a deaf ear to others’ advice because you thought you knew better? Have you ever felt fully prepared, only to be shocked by the final result? If so, you are having it too.
⑤ Dear graduates of 2026, as you are stepping into senior high and then a wider world, remember that real growth lies in the courage to be modest (谦虚). Always remember to learn, feel, and listen, and you will surely shine brighter in the years ahead.
31. Which sentence might be said by the uncle in Paragraph ①?
A. “I’m not sure. You’d better go and ask a teacher about this.”
B. “Oranges are good for the skin? Let’s check more articles.”
C. “This accident has many causes. I may not know the truth.”
D. “This war would end fast if they just listened to me.”
32. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. The bank Wheeler robbed.
B. The lemon juice on Wheeler’s face.
C. The story about the robbery.
D. The experiment Wheeler took part in.
33. What do the experiments by Dunning and Kruger show?
A. Most people can see their shortcomings more or less.
B. Less skilled people often think highly of themselves.
C. A person can tell how well he or she finishes a task.
D. Confidence can make people achieve success.
34. Who is most likely to be at Point D in the graph?
A. A student who is beating self-doubt step by step with hard work.
B. A person who feels super confident after taking the first driving lesson.
C. A math teacher who feels very lost in the beginning of his teaching.
D. An experienced doctor who keeps learning for many years at work.
35. Which of the following can be put in the third box of the structure of the passage?
A. Listing more results.
B. Sharing scientific facts.
C. Connecting with readers.
D. Discussing different ideas.

David, a famous scientist, has made several important medical discoveries. A reporter interviewed him, asking why he was so much more creative than most people.
David said that it all came from an experience when he was about four. He tried to take a bottle of milk from the fridge, but it fell on the kitchen floor and the floor turned into a sea of milk!
Thinking his mother would shout at him or punish him, David was worried. However, his mother said, “David, what a wonderful mess you have made! Well, the damage has already been done. Would you like to play in it for a few minutes before we clean it up?” Hearing this, David could hardly believe his ears.
He then played in the milk. After a few minutes, his mother said, “You know, David, whenever you make a mess like this, in the end you have to clean it up. Now, which do you prefer to use, a sponge, a towel, or a mop?” He chose the sponge and together they cleaned up the floor.
His mother then said, “You had a failed experiment just now. Let’s fill the bottle with water again and see if you can discover a way to take it successfully.” David then learned that if he held the bottle at the top near the lip with both hands, he could take it without dropping it.
This famous scientist learned that mistakes were just chances for learning something new. So are scientific experiments. Even if the experiment doesn’t work, we can still learn something valuable from it.

根据上文He was so surprised以及空后的he wondered可知,此处是固定句型so…that…,意为“如此…… if如果,when当……
根据空前的Some hooks可知,此处考查some…others…
根据空前的shared this creative idea和空后的a cloth designer可知,此处是固定搭配share sth. with sb.,意为“和某人分享某物”。on,in,for均不能构成此搭配。
should应该,must必须,would将会,均不符合语境。
根据上文提到的“they struggled to find a proper name”可知,宾语从句中的主语it指代前文的name。
主语this wonderful invention与动词use之间是被动关系,所以用一般现在时的被动语态is used。 所以应填is used。

My darling grandfather,
I don’t think I could ever find the words to describe your deep love for me. I’m writing to tell you how important you are to me.
Grandpa, I couldn’t imagine where I would be now without you and Grandma. Through all the difficulties, you two have been like a rock in my life and a peaceful island in a big and lonely ocean. You have given me power all the time.
Seeing you two again was always like a homecoming. When I came to visit, your loving arms welcomed me and we had a wonderful time together. You have shown me that there are men who are ▲ and patient. I remember, when I was a little girl, how you hugged me gently when I couldn’t sleep. You always gave me personal advice and spoke kindly to me.
You have shown me what a family man is, always giving the best to the family even when tired. You have also shown me a caring husband’s love for his wife. I have never heard you treat Grandma disrespectfully.
Grandpa, you gave me hope to believe that I could also be a responsible person. Thank you for your love and for being a role model to me.

C

固定搭配decide to do sth.
