Smart spending is a necessary skill for everyone, especially for teenagers who are just starting to handle their pocket money. It is not about never buying nice things, but about spending money on the right things at the right time. To develop this skill, here are three practical tips that you can easily follow in daily life.
First, make a clear shopping list before going to the mall or the supermarket. Write down only the items you really need, such as school supplies or daily necessities. Avoid adding things that catch your eye but are not essential, like fancy snacks or trendy toys. This simple step can prevent you from buying unnecessary stuff on a whim.
Second, wait for 24 hours before making any expensive purchases. Many people tend to buy costly items impulsively, but after a day of thinking, they often find that they don’t actually need those things. This waiting period gives you time to calm down and make a wise decision.
Finally, keep a spending journal. Write down every penny you spend, including the amount, the item and the reason for buying it. At the end of each week, review your journal and see where your money has gone. This way, you can find out your bad spending habits and correct them in time.
Smart spending helps you save money for future goals and avoid the regret of wasting money. It is a habit that will benefit you for a lifetime.

Some children cannot wait to grow up. Because once you become an adult, you are free to make your own decisions. You can do all those things that you cannot do now because you are too young. So, at what age do you really become an adult? Well, people become adults at different ages in different places.
In Australia, the 18th birthday is a very important event for young Australians because it means they can do almost anything they want. They can vote (选举), learn to drive a car, get married and even buy their own houses. However, even if they can do all these things, most Australians have to wait until their 21st birthday to really celebrate becoming an adult. This is the traditional adult age not only in Australia, but also in the USA and the UK. It is their first year of true independence. Traditionally, people were given a key to their houses by their parents when they turned 21. They could come and go as they liked.
Even though 21 is the traditional adult age in many English-speaking countries, the law nowadays is different in each country. In the UK, you can join the army at 16 and even get married at 16 if your parents agree.
In China, there is a different age for each of the stages of becoming an adult. You can vote and learn to drive a car when you are 18, but if you want to get married, women have to wait until they are 20 and men until they are 22.
No matter what age you are, becoming an adult is really about learning how to be independent and responsible (有责任心的). Once you are finally able to take care of yourself and make your own decisions, then you can say that you are truly a grown-up.

B. It depends on their own independence and responsibility.
C. It depends on if they are eighteen years old.
D. It depends on when they get the key to their houses.
39. Which is the right structure of the passage?

Volunteering is a great way to help others, whether it’s a child who has difficulty finishing his or her homework or an elderly person who feels lonely.
When somebody volunteers, they are doing something good for others or the world around them without being paid. Volunteering comes in all shapes and sizes. It can be organised, such as working for an organisation, or not organised, like helping your neighbours with their food shopping. Many people volunteer to help the environment by picking up rubbish or planting trees.
Helping others can actually help yourself too. Research has shown that volunteering improves your well-being (幸福感). It can give you a sense of purpose—a meaningful goal (目标) to work towards—and then help build your self-trust and make you feel motivated (有积极性的). This is especially true if you match volunteering to your interests. Amy Meek, who volunteers for a wildlife organisation, agrees. Amy loves animals, and by joining the wildlife organisation, she has become much clearer about what she can do and feels more motivated.
Volunteering can also influence your health. By giving something to others, you feel happier and this is good for your health. Volunteering has also been shown to reduce your personal worries. That’s because you pay some attention to others’ needs. “Volunteering also offers you a chance to meet and connect with people, which is good for our mental health (心理健康),” says Jolie Goodman of the Mental Health Foundation.
So, what are you waiting for? Go volunteering and make a difference, not only for yourself but also for the world.

How to be good students in the new era
The 21st century is a time full of challenges and chances. It is important for us to know how to be good students in this new era. Today I’m glad to share my ideas about how to be good students.
First of all, we should have good morality. We must love our country and try our best to pass on Chinese culture. Secondly, as for schoolwork, we are supposed to study hard. Also, we should learn to cooperate with others because teamwork is important. Finally, we need to develop good habits in our daily life. We should learn to be independent.
