Maya was very happy because the summer vacation was coming. She loved everything about summer: the warm sun on her face, the soft grass under her feet, and the picnics (野餐) with her family. But the thing she wanted most was to go to her aunt and uncle’s farm with her parents and sisters.
But this year was different. Maya’s dad told her they couldn’t go. From early June on, her mum would teach summer classes in a school, and her aunt and uncle would visit a friend in another city. Maya was too surprised to say a word.
Maya went to her room and sat on her bed. She was sad that she couldn’t go to the farm and that her summer vacation would be boring. Just then, she noticed some brochures (小册子) on her desk. They were from museums, parks and historical sites (历史遗迹) in her city. Looking at them, she suddenly had an idea.
Maya ran to her sisters and suggested (建议) a staycation—exploring their own city like tourists. Her sisters were interested, so the three girls happily told their parents the idea. Their parents loved the idea and picked a few days in late July for their special trip.

Pu’er is known for its tea, but it is also China’s coffee centre. At Elephant Coffee Manor (庄园) , visitors can drink fresh coffee while watching elephants walk nearby. “People come for the elephants, but they find the process of making coffee is also amazing.” said the manor’s starter.
Baishapo in Pu’er used to be a place like any other. Now it is a busy coffee village. Visitors can go to a large coffee centre and small shops run by villagers. There, coffee workers guide them through the coffee journey— from seed (种子) to cup.
Russian vlogger Allie came to visit. She picked coffee cherries (咖啡果) from the trees. “I drink coffee every day, and it’s bitter,” she said. “But I never knew the coffee cherries themselves taste so sweet. If you like coffee, you should come to Pu’er.” With the help of a coffee worker, she finally tasted her own handmade coffee.

When Tom gets home, he takes out his phone and puts it near the door lock. With a short “beep” sound, the door opens right away. This smart way to open the door comes from a great technology called NFC.
NFC stands for Near Field Communication (近场通信) . It lets two devices (设备) share information when they are very close to each other. You don’t need to open an app, use the internet, or pair them like using Bluetooth. Just a tap is OK.
NFC helps a lot with our daily activities. For example, you can pay (支付) in shops or restaurants just by tapping your phone or smartwatch on the payment machine. Two phones can share photos and music when you tap them back-to-back. You can also use NFC to open the door. In many cities, people tap an NFC card or their phone to take the bus or subway.
Many people like using NFC for the following reasons. First, it’s very fast. When you tap your phone, everything happens in a short time. Second, it’s easy to use. There are no difficult steps to remember and it doesn’t need Wi-Fi, so you can use it anywhere. Third, NFC is safe. Because the devices must be very close to work together, it is hard for other people to get your information. NFC makes our lives easy. This small technology helps us do important things with just a tap.
32. Why does the writer talk about Tom’s story?
A. To show a smart lock. B. To start talking about NFC.
C. To describe how Tom opens the door. D. To explain why phones are important.
33. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. The future of NFC. B. The history of NFC.

C. It’s fun and easy to use. D. It’s fast, easy to use and safe.

Then my parents had a good idea. They invited my grandparents to our city. It was a “reverse (反向的) travel”. It meant that my grandparents came to us instead of us going back. My grandparents agreed.
On the first day of the holiday, we waited for my grandparents at the station. When they got off the train, I gave them a big hug (拥抱) .
During the rest of the holiday, I showed my grandparents around the city. We walked in the park, enjoyed the flowers and went boating. We also watched great movies together.
On Mid-Autumn night, we stayed at home, ate mooncakes, talked happily and enjoyed the bright full moon.
It was a wonderful holiday. Though we didn’t go back to our hometown, we still had a happy family reunion (团聚) . Finally, I learnt that family love is the most important treasure. It doesn’t matter where we spend the holiday, as long as the family is together. I will always remember the happy days.

例文
Last week, our school asked 1, 000 students about how often they do housework. Here are the results.
Only 10% of the students do housework every day, while 30% of them never do it. 20% of the students help their parents with housework three to four times a week. Most students do housework once a week, which takes up 40%.
In my opinion, doing housework is very important for us students. First, it can help us develop our independence and learn basic life skills. Second, doing housework is a good way to relax ourselves from hard study. What’s more, it can help our parents and show our love to them. Therefore, we should take an active part in doing housework in our free time.

Yunnan was named one of the Top 10 Best Places to Visit in 2026 by The Wall Street Journal. It is famous for its beautiful mountains, old villages, and special tea. Also, the coffee farms there are well-known. More and more visitors are coming, even tour groups from other countries.

She picked coffee cherries (咖啡果) from the trees. “I drink coffee every day, and it’s bitter,” she said. “But I never knew the coffee cherries themselves taste so sweet.
C. The daily use of NFC. D. The joy of using NFC.
34. What are the good points of NFC?
A. It’s new and fun. B. It’s new, fast and safe.
C. It’s fun and easy to use. D. It’s fast, easy to use and safe.
35. What may the writer say about NFC?

Skillications can be relaxing. When your mind is busy learning a new skill, you don’t have time to think of the worries of work and your regular life. These might be hard to forget if you’re just lying on a chair at the beach!
A study shows that skillications can be good for your mind. Learning new things during skillications helps keep your brain (大脑) healthy. It can make your brain work well and stay strong as you grow old.
So why not try a skillication next time? Leave the usual souvenirs behind and take home a new skill instead.
