What does it mean to travel somewhere new and not be able to see it? That question led me on a 10-day journey through northern India with Traveleyes, a British tour company that pairs visually impaired (受损的) travelers and sighted travelers.
I was paired with Candie, a blind woman from Seattle. “The whole sights thing doesn’t excite me,” she said. “Tell me what people are doing even if it’s just someone sleeping on the sidewalk — that is more interesting to me than, ‘There’s a tree over here with yellow leaves.’” I looked out of the bus window. Along the roadside were hairdressers who’d hung mirrors on trees, shaving customers on low chairs. I told Candie how cars here drive on the left, and how clearly marked road lines were almost universally ignored.
I was beginning to notice how speaking these details aloud made me more observant. Things I might have otherwise overlooked or skimmed past became more visible to me when I put them into words. In naming them, I also saved them into memory.
We eventually arrived in Ranthambore, one of the best places in India to spot wild tigers. Touring the park in an open-topped bus, we spotted tiger tracks — but no tiger. Admittedly, I was disappointed. Candie wasn’t. Just moving through the wilderness in the open air, she said, holding tight the handlebar, had been exciting enough.
These words reminded me of the difference between how blind and sighted people experience travel: For sighted travelers, it’s more like watching a film as they tend to rely on immediate visual cues to form quick and vivid impressions. For blind ones, the world reveals itself more slowly, through layers of sound, touch and smell. It’s a more immersive (沉浸式的), interpretive process — just like reading a novel, where the story unfolds through detail and imagination. And the book is often better than the film.
24. Why did the author start his journey?
A. To satisfy his curiosity. B. To spend his vacation.
C. To help disabled people. D. To heighten his senses.
25. What appealed to Candie most during the journey?
A. Traffic rules. B. Local customs.
C. Beautiful scenery. D. People’s activities.
26. How did describing details affect the author?
A. It refreshed his memory. B. It boosted his social skills.
C. It sharpened his perception. D. It encouraged him to speak up.
27. What message is conveyed in the text?
A. Don’t judge a book by its cover. B. Every cloud has a silver lining.
C. Actions speak louder than words. D. Slow tasting reveals true flavor.

The world is drowning in plastic, and one can hardly buy anything in the supermarket without encountering wrapping and other packaging made of this oil-based polluter that accounts for a major proportion of waste in landfills.
Now, scientists at the Chinese University of Hong Kong have developed an edible, transparent and biodegradable material with considerable potential for use as food packaging.
In a recent paper, published in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, the team members have turned their attention to bacterial cellulose(BC) — an organic compound derived from certain types of bacteria that has gained attention as a sustainable, easily available and harmless solution to the pervasive use of plastics.
Unlike the cellulose found in the cell walls of plants, BC can be produced through microbial fermentation (发酵) that avoids the need for harvesting trees or crops. Prof. To Ngai from the chemistry department noted that as a result. “this production method does not contribute to deforestation or habitat loss, making BC a more sustainable and environmentally friendly material alternative to plant cellulose”.
Ngai noted that this approach has high potential for scale-up. It doesn’t need specific conditions like chemical reactions, but rather a simple and practical method with mixing and coating. “This approach offers a promising solution to the challenge of developing sustainable and environmentally friendly packaging materials that can replace single-use plastics on a large scale,” he added.
The researchers are now exploring the directions for future research, hoping to increase the versatility (多功能性) of modified BC films (薄膜), making them suitable for a wider range of applications. They hope that their study will help reduce the excessive use of single-use plastics that can persist for hundreds of years after only a few days of being displayed on supermarket shelves.
28. What can be concluded about bacterial cellulose?
A. It is mainly sourced from plants like trees and crops.
B. Its production does not cause forest or wildlife destruction.
C. It has been widely used as the primary alternative to plastics.
D. Its fermentation process is more complicated than plant cellulose.
29. What makes this new method easily scalable?
A. It doesn’t require expensive materials. B. It depends on specialized reaction settings.
C. It involves basic and workable operations. D. It uses precise mixing and coating techniques.
30. What’s Ngai’s attitude toward the research?
A. Unclear. B. Cautious. C. Doubtful. D. Optimistic.
31. What will the future study focus on?
A. Improving the strength of BC films. B. Reducing the cost of BC film production.
C. Expanding the uses of BC films. D. Replacing supermarket display plastics.
D
Inspiration for Zeynep Demirbas’ research struck during a chat with a friend. That friend, a psychologist, said some health insurance companies were pushing the use of artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, for mental health. The idea: AI might be less costly and easier to access than human therapists (治疗专家).
That worried Zeynep, 14. She knew that ChatGPT often gave wrong answers or agreed with incorrect statements. Could this type of AI, known as a large language model — or LLM — really be trusted with our mental health?
To find out, she tested whether several LLMs could detect stress in human text. She gave the models a dataset of more than 3,500 posts. Human raters had been asked to label each one as containing stress or not. Then Zeynep asked the models to identify which posts showed stress.
To judge how well the models did, Zeynep calculated something called an F1-score for each one. This score considers how many stress-containing posts the models accurately spotted. It also accounts for how often the models missed cases of stress and how often they mislabeled posts as showing stress. An LLM specifically designed for mental health did the best. It scored about 82 percent. ChatGPT scored only about 74 percent.
ChatGPT performing badly was “really surprising”, Zeynep says. It did even worse than the “random-forest” model, which is “supposed to be a very simple and old technique. So I just put it in as a baseline,” Zeynep says. “That was very interesting — how something so small and simple was able to beat an LLM like ChatGPT that used millions of parameters (参数) and had so much coding go into it.”
“We should be mindful with AI,” Zeynep says. “That doesn’t mean that LLMs are bad, because they’re for general use. They’re not necessarily meant for mental health.” Her data led her to conclude that LLMs should not be replacing human therapists. Instead, these models might help identify people who are struggling and refer them to a mental health professional.
32. What worried Zeynep when chatting with a friend?
A. AI is applied to mental health. B. Human therapists charge high fees.
C. AI is developing at an alarming rate. D. Health insurance companies face challenges.
33. Why were the human raters asked to label the posts?
A. To assess the reliability of the posts.
B. To figure out the F1-scores of different LLMs.
C. To provide a reference standard for LLM testing.
D. To assess human raters’ accuracy in detecting stress.
34. Why does Zeynep mention the random-forest model?
A. To erase doubts about old models.
B. To compare simple and complex models.
C. To illustrate the urgent need for more parameters.
D. To show the poor performance of LLMs in the test.
35. What does Zeynep mean in the last paragraph?
A. LLMs are generally useless in most fields.
B. Humans are responsible for improving AI.
C. LLMs need more training in identifying mental struggles.
D. Humans still play a dominant role in addressing mental issues.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
When I show people this image and ask what they see, they mostly say a question mark with two periods. They often add that the two periods represent your past and future, and the question mark is today. They wouldn’t be wrong. As a society, we are either focused on not repeating the past mistakes or what we’ll do in the future. We make lists, track what we read, study, watch, or listen to, and think a lot on injustices that demand equality.____36____
What if I tell you that there’s more white space than actual markings in the image? White space — also called negative space — exists in design as the unprinted area that is purposeful.____37____ Jocelyn K. Glei describes it as balancing the page by letting elements breathe, enhancing focus.
____38____ Glei suggests applying white space to daily schedules to foster innovation and imagination. Other writings describe it as cultivating the mental capacity to play, explore, learn, and rest without guilt or distraction. By shifting focus to the white space, we invite creativity and transcend the ordinary, helping us become who we’re meant to be.
Simply put, wherever you have goals and dreams, this is where you need white space in your life.____39____ Rather than being continually active, rushing from one activity to the next, set aside time to just hold hands. Do you want to be more creative and productive when you are trying to build a business or create income through writing? Then schedule white space into your calendar to nurture creativity. White space isn’t laziness; it’s intentional time for wisdom to flow.
So, how can we introduce this concept into our daily routines? You can create white space by intentionally setting electronics aside and walking away from your smartphone.____40____ Just like a webpage’s white space draws the eye, a life with scheduled white space draws in possibility.
A. But here is where we get our focus all wrong.
B. It supports visual integrity and draws attention.
C. But our focus tends to skip the present moment.
D. It creates an environment that fuels innovation and imagination.
E. White space also comes from taking a walk or gazing at the breeze.
F. Do you desire a deeper relationship with the special one in your life?
G. If white space works so well in design, could it also improve our lives?

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was a cool autumn morning when the school announced the annual sports day. For most students, it was a day of excitement and joy, but for me, it was just another event I wanted to avoid. I had always been the type to shy away from group activities, preferring the company of my books and thoughts.
Our class monitor, Sarah, noticed my unwillingness. She was the very image of enthusiasm and leadership, always trying to bring the class together. One day, she approached me during lunch. “Why don’t you join us for the relay race? It’ll be fun,” she said with a warm smile. I hesitated, but her perseverance was hard to ignore.
The next day, Sarah organized a practice session. I unwillingly joined, feeling out of place among my more athletic classmates. As we ran, I tripped and the baton (接力棒) fell, with my knee scraped (擦伤). Embarrassed, I wanted to quit, but Sarah was there in an instant, offering a hand and words of encouragement. “It’s okay, we’re a team,” she said. At this time, other fellow classmates came to encourage me. Their kindness made me feel less alone.
As the days went by, I found myself looking forward to the practices. The care and support among my classmates was touching. I began to see the value of teamwork and the joy of shared experiences. My initial unwillingness melted away, replaced by a newfound sense of belonging.
The anticipation for the sports day filled me with excitement. I dreamed of the cheers, the applauding crowd, and the excitement of competition. Training hard, I desired to show my skills, push my limits, share and feel the joy of victory. This event was more than a game; it meant a lot for me. I could not wait to be part of it!

M: I heard this year’s Mini Fair is going to be even bigger and better than last year’s. It won’t disappoint us.
W: Oh really? I had to go to a boring work event at that time, so I couldn’t come last year.
M: Yes! I got so many things for my model train set.
W: Like what?
M: Well, the coolest things I got were some tiny little trees. They looked so real.
W: Wow!
M: I’m hoping the guy who sells them is here again this year.
W: I hope so! Now that I’m satisfied with the inside part of my dolls’ house, I want to focus on creating the garden. So, it would be great to get some little plants and trees. What about you?
M: I want some little model cars and people to add to my train station scene. But I need to find a toilet first.
W: Over there, by the restaurant hall.
M: Great. Meet you in five minutes, by the ticket desk.

【答案】24. A 25. D 26. C 27. D

【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. C

【答案】32. A 33. C 34. D 35. D

【32题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段“That friend, a psychologist, said some health insurance companies were pushing the use of artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT, for mental health. The idea: AI might be less costly and easier to access than human therapists (治疗专家).(这位朋友是位心理学家,他说一些健康保险公司正在推广使用人工智能技术,比如 ChatGPT,来辅助心理健康治疗。其想法是:与人类治疗师相比,人工智能可能成本更低、更容易获取。)”和第二段“That worried Zeynep, 14.(这让 14 岁的Zeynep感到担忧。)”可知,Zeynep在与朋友聊天时担心的是人工智能被应用于心理健康领域。故选A。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Human raters had been asked to label each one as containing stress or not. Then Zeynep asked the models to identify which posts showed stress.(此前,人类评估者已被要求给每条帖子标注是否包含压力。然后,Zeynep让这些模型识别哪些帖子显示出压力。)”可知,Zeynep给模型提供包含3500多个帖子的数据集,让人类评估者标记每个帖子是否包含压力,然后让模型识别哪些帖子显示压力,因此人类评估者的标记是为模型测试提供了参考标准,故选C。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“It did even worse than the “random-forest” model, which is “supposed to be a very simple and old technique. So I just put it in as a baseline,” Zeynep says. “That was very interesting — how something so small and simple was able to beat an LLM like ChatGPT that used millions of parameters (参数) and had so much coding go into it.”(它的表现甚至还不如“随机森林”模型,“随机森林模型本应是一种非常简单且古老的技术,所以我只是把它作为基准”,Zeynep说,“这非常有趣——一个如此小巧简单的模型,居然能够击败像ChatGPT这种使用了数百万个参数、投入了大量代码编写的大型语言模型。”)”可知,Zeynep提及随机森林模型是为了展示大型语言模型在测试中的表现不佳。故选D。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Her data led her to conclude that LLMs should not be replacing human therapists. Instead, these models might help identify people who are struggling and refer them to a mental health professional.(她的数据让她得出结论:大型语言模型不应取代人类治疗师。相反,这些模型或许可以帮助识别出那些正陷入困境的人,并将他们转介给心理健康专业人士。)”可知,Zeynep根据数据得出LLMs不应取代人类治疗师,而是可辅助识别有困扰的人并转介给专业人士,说明人类在解决心理问题方面仍占主导地位,故选D。

【答案】36. A 37. B 38. G 39. F 40. E

Recently, our school English newspaper conducted a satisfaction survey about the Club Festival held last week.
As shown in the chart, 80% of students were satisfied with the activity richness, which offered diverse and interesting club programs. However, only 55% felt content with event arrangements — some complained about overlapping schedules. Worse still, merely 25% were pleased with audience participation, as most activities lacked interaction.
To improve, we suggest planning the schedule more carefully to avoid conflicts. Also, designing more interactive games or group tasks can encourage students to join in. These changes will make the next Club Festival more organized and engaging, ensuring a better experience for everyone.

第二节(满分25分)

1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】The day I looked forward to came eventually. My heart pounded with a mix of nervousness and excitement as we lined up for the relay race. As the race began, the cheers from the crowd fueled my determination. I focused on the task at hand. Each step was a testament to the weeks of practice and the support of my teammates. But it was at the moment when I took over the baton that I collapsed onto the track, due to the sudden pain from my knee, gasping for air. We were supposed to win the championship, but in the end we ended up getting the second place.
We lost the game, and I blamed our failure on myself. After crossing the finish line, disappointment washed over me like a cold wave. As we gathered together, I finally spoke up, my voice trembling with guilt. “It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t tripped, maybe we would have won.” However, Sarah placed a hand on my shoulder and said gently, “We’re a team, remember? Your effort and improvement are what truly matter.” Her words warmed my heart, and I realized that the true value of the sports day lay not in winning but in the bonds we had forged and the lessons we had learned.
