Born in Sudan in 1990, Hamza Yassin is a British wildlife cameraman and TV presenter, known for his role as ranger Hamza on CBeebies and his work on shows such as Animal Park.
He moved to Northampton in 1998 when his parents, both doctors, were invited to work in the UK. Besides the climate, he also had to adjust to the change in pets. As mentioned in his book Hamza’s Wild World, “Where’s everyone’s pet lions and monkeys? It was all cats and dogs. I hadn’t realized what a special upbringing (养育) I had. But it was the UK that cemented my love of wildlife: I quickly fell in love with the country’s nature. At first glance, it doesn’t look like there is much wildlife. But if you peel back the layers, there is so much.”
Though his parents didn’t have time to closely teach him, they did turn on the television, especially the Discovery Channel. David Attenborough’s The Life of Birds was an eye-opening experience, and Steve Irwin was a huge inspiration. While Hamza thought they had cool jobs, he never thought he could be a presenter. As a non-white teenager, he never saw anyone like him in front of the camera.
After being an assistant for the incredible wildlife cameraman Jesse Wilkinson, Hamza realized he needed to forge his own path. In 2011, he traveled with friends to the Highlands. Two weeks later, he was back there. He told his parents he was living in a beautiful cottage, but in reality, he was living in his car, struggling to make ends meet. He parked at the local ferry terminal and lived there happily for nine months, doing odd jobs to survive. During that time, he was determined not to go back to Northampton and tell his parents: “I’ve been defeated.” Luckily, he made it. That experience taught him everything he needed to know about the profession.
Eventually, Hamza became a renowned wildlife cameraman, inspiring others to pursue their dreams regardless of their background.
4. What does the underlined word “cemented” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Strengthened. B. Evaluated. C. Challenged. D. Deserved.
5. Why didn’t Hamza think he could be a TV presenter in his teenage years?
A. He had no passion for being a presenter. B. He feared to stand in front of the camera.
C. He obtained little support from his parents. D. He lacked confidence because of his color.
6. What can we learn from Hamza’s experience in the Highlands?
A. He assisted a well-known wildlife cameraman. B. He longed for his parents’ financial support.
C. He persevered through different challenges. D. He documented the region’s wildlife for a TV show.
7. What does Hamza’s story of becoming a renowned cameraman show?
A. Great minds think alike. B. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
C. Strike while the iron is hot. D. A good beginning makes a good ending.

Whether in the home or the workplace, social robots are going to become a lot more common in the next few years. Social robots are about to bring technology to the everyday world in a more humanized way, said Cynthia Breazeal, chief scientist at the robot company Jibo.
While household robots today do the normal housework, social robots will be much more like companions than mere tools. For example, these robots will be able to distinguish when someone is happy or sad. This allows them to respond more appropriately to the user.
The Jibo robot, arranged to ship later this year, is designed to be a personalized assistant. You can talk to the robot, ask it questions, and make requests for it to perform different tasks. The robot doesn’ t just deliver general answers to questions; it responds based on what it learns about each individual in the household. It can do things such as reminding an elderly family member to take medicine or taking family photos.
Social robots are not just finding their way into the home. They have potential applications in everything from education to health care and are already finding their way into some of these spaces.
Fellow Robots is one company bringing social robots to the market. The company’ s “ Oshbot” robot is built to assist customers in a store, which can help the customers find items and help guide them to the product’ s location in the store. It can also speak different languages and make recommendations for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.
The more interaction the robot has with humans, the more it learns. But Oshbot, like other social robots, is not intended to replace workers, but to work alongside other employees. “ We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us,” said Breazeal.

New smart wheelchairs are designed to allow users more freedom of movement. Some even allow them to raise or lower the seats or to go up and down stairs. Now, Scewo, a Swiss company, has designed their futuristic motorized wheelchair Scewo Bro that is a complete solution with multitasking innovation. This smart wheelchair is so advanced and multifunctional that it won the Design Prize in 2018 and has been recognized as a pioneer in the medical technology industry.
With clearly defined lines and a reduction to the essentials, the design team developed a clear design language. That way, Scewo Bro is seen as a new generation of wheelchairs at first glance. Scewo Bro users can control the wheelchair either by a touch interface (界面) or a smartphone. They can switch from one to the other and can also choose from three different modes: park mode, drive mode, and track mode. This allows for any terrain (地形) and for people with mobility disabilities to be independent.
Built with safety in mind, the seat always balances itself so the user stays in a sitting position. This feature allows users to deal with different terrains without the risk of tipping over. Besides, the foot rests, seat, and arm rests are designed to be comfortable and adjustable.
The smart wheelchair can go up to 35 kilometers on one charge and can go 10 kilometers per hour. If a break is needed, just put the chair into the relaxation position. The smart wheelchair comes with two secure storage areas for people on the go to store valuables. It can fit in the trunk of a car and can be charged in just five hours.
Scewo Bro is available in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. While the first batch(首批) has sold out, people can pre-order for delivery at the end of 2021. This futuristic wheelchair will allow for increased movement and a better quality of life for people with mobility issues.

Last winter, I joined a community program to teach art to children from low-income families. My first class left me feeling ___21___ — none of the kids seemed interested in drawing. They sat quietly, staring at the paper without lifting their crayons, and when I tried to encourage them to draw, most just ___22___ their heads.
I went home wondering if I was doing something wrong. A friend who worked with kids suggested I ___23___ their world instead of pushing my own plans. The next week, I brought photos of animals they might see near their homes: stray cats, sparrows, and even the old dog that ___24___ the neighborhood. I asked them to tell me stories about these creatures first. Suddenly, the room ___25___ to life. A boy’s cat had extra tails “because it runs so fast,” and a girl’s sparrow wore a tiny hat “to stay warm.” When I praised their work, their eyes lit up with ___28___ I hadn’t seen before.
As the weeks passed, the class became a ___29___ part of my routine. I watched shy kids grow confident enough to share their art, and quiet moments turned into lively discussions. One day, a girl handed me a drawing of a rainbow with our faces underneath. “This is us,” she said softly. It now hangs on my fridge, a ____30____ of how connecting with others can turn frustration into joy.
By the end of the program, I realized teaching art wasn’t just about drawing — it was about ____31____ space for these kids to express themselves. They didn’t need perfect techniques; they needed someone to ____32____ their voices mattered. When we held a small exhibition of their works, parents and neighbors gathered, and the kids stood tall, ____33____ their “artistic” works.
I still think about that first difficult class. It taught me that patience and curiosity are more ____34____ than any lesson plan. Sometimes, the most important thing we can do is ____35____ and listen.

8. How are social robots different from household robots?
A. They can control their emotions.
B. They are more like humans.
C. They do the normal housework.

A. Communicate with you and perform operations.
B. Answer your questions and make requests.
C. Take your family pictures and deliver milk.
D. Obey your orders and remind you to take pills.
10. We can learn from the last paragraph that social robots will ______.
A. train employees
B. be our workmates
C. improve technologies
D. take the place of workers
11. What does the passage mainly present?

B. Marketing strategies for social robots.
