He was easily distracted, so he made a deal with himself: study for ten minutes, then stop. He used a kitchen timer in the shape of a tomato—pomodoro in Italian. The method grew into the Pomodoro Technique. / The modern version is simple. Choose one task. Set a timer for twenty-five minutes. Work without stopping. When the timer rings, take a five-minute break. After four blocks, take a longer break of fifteen to thirty minutes. / Why does it work? Because it turns a large, frightening task into a small, finishable one. It also builds in rest, which the brain needs to consolidate memory. And it makes distraction visible: every time you reach for your phone, you notice it. / The method does not suit everything. Deep writing may need longer blocks, and some people prefer fifty minutes. / “The timer is not magic,” Cirillo says. “It is a mirror. It shows you how you actually spend your time.” 任务一:单项选择 1.What was Cirillo's timer shaped like? A.A tomato. B.An apple. C.A clock. D.A book. 2.How long is a classic Pomodoro block? A.Twenty-five minutes. B.Ten minutes. C.Fifty minutes. D.Five minutes. 任务二:判断正误(T/F) 3.After four blocks, you take a longer break. ( ) 4.Cirillo says the timer is magic. ( ) 任务三:简答 5.What does Cirillo say the timer actually is? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ Passage2(课外同源:六十六天) How long does it take to form a new habit? Many people say twenty-one days. That number comes from a 1960 book by a plastic surgeon, and it was never based on research. / In 2009, a team at University College London studied ninety-six people who were trying to build a new daily habit, such as eating fruit or running. The average time to reach automatic behaviour was sixty-six days. The range was wide: from eighteen days to more than two hundred. / The researchers also found that missing one day did not damage the habit. What mattered was returning the next day. “Missing once is an accident,” one of them wrote. “Missing twice is the start of a new habit.” / Simple habits became automatic faster than complex ones. A glass of water after breakfast was easy; fifty sit-ups were not. / So the useful question is not “how many days?” but “how small can I make it?” A habit you can repeat on your worst day is a habit you will keep. 任务一:单项选择 1.What was the average time to build a habit in the 2009 study? A.Sixty-six days. B.Twenty-one days. C.Eighteen days. D.Two hundred days. 2.What did the researchers find about missing one day? A.It did not damage the habit. B.It ruined the habit. C.It made the habit stronger. D.It doubled the time. 任务二:判断正误(T/F) 3.Simple habits became automatic faster than complex ones. ( ) 4.The twenty-one-day idea came from careful research. ( ) 任务三:简答 5.What does one researcher say missing twice is? _______________________________________________________________________________________________ 任务四:单元微写作 班会将讨论“我的时间管理计划”。请写一段话,不少于6句话。请写清你要改变什么、具体做法和时间安排,并用上 habit 和 stick to。 _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________________________ 参考答案 夯实基础 一、单词汉译英 1.habit 2.plan 3.priority 4.procrastination 5.goal 6.focus 7.reward 8.distraction 9.efficiency 10.track 11.stick 12.balance 二、短语汉译英 1.form a habit 2.set a goal 3.put off 4.focus on 5.remove distractions 6.track time 7.on schedule 8.stick to 三、词形变换 1.distraction 2.efficiency 3.procrastination 4.achievement 5.decision 能力进阶 一、单句填空 1.put 2.tracked 3.are 4.set 5.stuck 二、根据汉语意思完成句子 1.puts; off 2.distraction 3.tracked; week 4.Set; goals 5.stuck; to 三、句型转换 1.How; long 2.What; an 3.Does; put 4.was; it 5.is; used 四、选词填空 1.habit 2.goal 3.distraction 4.reward 5.efficiency 五、情景补全对话 答案:1.A 2.D 3.B 4.C 5.E;多余项:F 拓展提高 Passage1 任务一:1.A 2.A 任务二:3.T 4.F 任务三简答:5.A mirror that shows you how you spend your time. I want to change one habit: I check my phone as soon as I sit down to study. From Monday, the phone will stay in the kitchen, and I will work in twenty-five-minute blocks with a five-minute break. I will write the first small step of each task on a card, so I do not feel frightened by the whole thing. I will track my blocks on the calendar, and if I miss a day, I will start again the next day, not the next week. I think I can stick to this, because it takes only one decision each evening. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
