After a heavy rain, a volunteer team in a small town began to make a map of broken street lamps and blocked drains. People usually noticed the volunteers who spoke to residents (居民) or carried tools, but few noticed Lin Hao, who sat beside a folding table with an old laptop. He was quiet, and at the first meeting he 1 that nobody would expect much from him.
The team leader quickly divided the work. Some volunteers went from street to street, some took photos, and others called repair workers. Lin Hao was asked to keep the daily record. It sounded like a small job, so he accepted it without much 2 .
Two days later, however, the team began to face trouble. One group reported the same broken lamp twice. Another group forgot which drain had already been cleared. A worker drove to the wrong road because a photo had no street name. When people started arguing, Lin Hao opened his record and read out the exact time, place and problem for each report. The noisy tent became 3 at once.
The leader looked surprised. Lin Hao had also marked which problems were urgent and which ones could wait until the next morning. His record did not repair anything directly, but it kept the work in good 4 . From then on, each group reported to him before leaving and after returning. Before the team ended each day, Lin Hao would summarize the changes and ask everyone to 5 whether the map was correct.
On the fourth day, a repair truck broke down, and several streets might have been left in darkness. Lin Hao remembered that another team had finished a nearby area earlier than planned. He suggested changing the route (路线), and the repair work went on 6 .
At the final meeting, the town officer praised the whole team. She said residents could see the people carrying tools, but they should also remember the quiet work behind every clear decision. Lin Hao finally understood that a useful person is not always the one who 7 first. Some people notice details, some keep order, and some help others feel less worried.
That experience changed the way Lin Hao saw himself. He still did not enjoy standing in the centre, but he no longer believed quietness was a 8 . In a team, different personalities can become different kinds of strength. If each person understands both his strong points and his weak points, the group is more likely to 9 its goal. His record book was only a small thing, but it helped him discover a larger truth: knowing yourself is not about finding a label; it is about finding the best way to 10 .

前文提到由于信息混乱,大家开始争吵(“When people started arguing...”),而林浩随即打开记录,清楚准确地念出了每次报告的时间、地点和问题(“read out the exact time, place and problem”),用事实平息了争议。
结合后半句“whether the map was correct”,核对信息是否真实准确的标准动词是check,check whether...
原文首段提到“People usually noticed the volunteers who spoke to residents or carried tools”,而林浩是安静记录的人。
固定搭配reach a goal/reach its goal表示“达成/实现目标”。
work with others“与他人合作”完美契合文章主旨升华;give up“放弃”、show off“炫耀”、pay off“取得成功/得到回报”均脱离了团队互补协作的核心思想。

根据“give it a ...”
for“为了”;about“关于”;from“来自”,均不符合语境。
“Class, this is Kevin.” Mrs. Green announced, trying to sound 1 to catch our attention. We saw a boy in out-of-date clothes and shoes. Kevin looked around and smiled, 2 somebody to smile back. But nobody did.
I held my breath, hoping Mrs. Green wouldn’t notice the 3 desk next to mine. But she did, and 4 him in that direction. He looked over at me as he sat down, but I didn’t, I thought I 5 . He sat there silently.
By the end of his first week, Kevin was at the 6 of our school’s social ladder (梯子). “It’s his own mistake,” I told my mother one evening at dinner. “He 7 doesn’t even know how to count.” 8 this was true, I ate lunch with him the next day and listened to him carefully. I realized that Kevin was in fact pleasant to be around.
One night, I said, “Mom, tomorrow is Kevin’s birthday, and he’s not going to get anything Nobody 9 ” “Don’t worry,” Mom said as she kissed me good night. “I’m sure his birthday will be a real 10 .”
I wished Kevin a happy birthday first thing in the morning. He was glad I had remembered. By mid-afternoon, I’d almost decided birthdays weren’t that important. Then, as Mrs. Green wrote on the blackboard, I heard a familiar 11 singing the birthday song. Moments later, Mom came in with a plate of cupcakes, a present and a red ribbon (丝带). She 12 the red ribbon on Kevin’s desk, and he looked very excited.
My friend kindly shared his cupcakes with the class, carrying the plate from desk to desk, and everyone’s 13 of him began to change. I caught Mom watching me, and I was deeply 14 by what she had done—she smiled and winked (眨眼). At that moment, I understood: a little 15 can turn a lonely new kid into a friend, and a lonely day into one we’d all remember.

cheered him up“让他振作起来”、calmed him down“让他平静下来”、drove him mad“把他逼疯”,都不符合“我没有回应目光”带来的结果。
妈妈带来的装饰用红丝带是用来布置凯文的生日位置的,stuck(stick的过去式,此处表示“粘贴、放置”)符合给桌面布置生日装饰的动作逻辑。
Many people say volleyball is easy. “If you can 1 it in the air, you can play volleyball.” I used to be one of those people. 2 , recently I realized how silly I was.
My start in volleyball was hard. 3 practising with my mother, I was full of confidence that I could join my school team and play well as a “bookworm”! Unluckily, my dream was broken the next day.
Before“在……
under“在……
keep in harmony with为固定搭配,意为“与……

Robert Hunt, an expert, advises students about common problems. He feels the 9 way as Laura. “It is best not to avoid our problems. We should always try to solve them.” He thinks that you can first find someone to talk to and this person doesn’t need to be an expert like himself. Students often forget that their 10 have more experience and are always there to help them.

Our softball team huddled around Coach Jenny. It was the first game of the season and my first game—ever.
“Remember, even winners make mistakes,” Coach Jenny said. “But what do real winners do when they mess up?” She held up 1 fingers.
“Shake it off. Keep their head in the game. Never, ever quit,” we chanted.
“And what kind of winners are you?” Coach Jenny asked us.
“ 2 winners!” we answered.
I was up to bat (球棒) first. My teammates cheered loudly for me. I swung three times, and the umpire shouted “Strike three, You’re out.” I calmed myself down and walked back to the dugout Soon we got three outs, and it was time to defend.
First, I 3 a fly ball. Then, my throw from third base to first was too short. I told myself to stay focused and avoid more mistakes.
We took turns batting again after three outs. When it was my 4 , Callie stood on first base and Nickie on second. I hit the ball hard and rushed to first. The ball flew far to left field, so I advanced to second base. Nickie had scored, but Callie moved slowly toward third. I was so 5 to score another run that I ran faster and went ahead of Callie.
“Out!” the umpire yelled as I touched home plate. He told me base runners can’t pass each other during the game. I totally forgot this rule, and my face felt 6 with embarrassment. Coach Jenny comforted me, saying the score was tied.
I walked behind my teammates back to the field. I took my position at third base but stared at second. Why had I 7 Callie? A ball rolled under my glove later because I reacted too slowly. I took off my glove and almost gave up.
“Maddie!” Coach Jenny called. She held up three fingers. I knew what that 8 : Be a real winner. Could I still be a real winner? Our team chant played through my mind. Shake it off. Keep your head in the game. Never, ever quit. The choice was mine.
I put my glove back on and got ready. I kept my 9 on the batter and refused to replay my silly mistakes in my mind.
Soon the next batter hit a ground ball. I caught it quickly and threw it to Callie. She passed the ball to first base, and we finished a double play (双杀). Coach Jenny cheered for us.
My mind was 10 on the match. It was never too late to be a real winner.

Everybody makes decisions in daily life. Some of them are as 1 as what you will eat for breakfast while others can be as important as what you will do in the future. And the decision that you make can even be a turning point of your life.
I made an important decision when I was in Junior 3. Before I made that decision, I was just one of the boys who tried hard to act as a(n) 2 . I didn’t listen to my parents or teachers, thinking it was a way to 3 my independence (独立) . But soon my grades were getting poorer. Then came the high school entrance exam.
At the turning point of my life, my mum wanted to have a talk with me. In fact, I wanted to 4 her but when I looked at her eyes, I felt I couldn’t. Instead of asking me to study hard, to my surprise, Mum just asked what I wanted to do in the future. 5 thinking too much, I just said I would study hard.
Mum smiled and asked again, “What do you want to do?”
I never 6 thought about the question. So I kept silent.

根据“I didn’t listen to my parents or teachers”,可知此处指叛逆期想表现得成熟。
根据“but when I looked at her eyes, I felt I couldn’t”,可知前后动作相反。
根据“I just said I would study hard”,可知回答得很随意,当时未深思熟虑,应用Without“没有”。

根据“you want to go on studying or start to do something differently”,可知是选择关系,应用Whether“是否”。
根据“it is your own decision”,作者被“要求”自主决策,应用required“要求”。
根据“I wanted to be a man who makes a difference”,努力学习是为了“实现”理想,应用achieve“实现”。
根据“I didn’t act rebelliously any more. With passion in my heart, I studied hard.”,目标确定后,前路变“清晰”,应用clear。
Last summer, when I finally had a day off, Raymond ran to me and said, “Dad, the school is hosting a cookie auction (拍卖)! Each student was asked to bake cookies with their father!”
I had never baked cookies before, so we followed the instructions 1 . We shaped the dough (面团) into small rounds, and confidently placed them on a baking tray in the oven. Fifteen minutes later, I was 2 that the cookies were not the golden and perfectly shaped ones in advertisements.
After they cooled, we 3 them with icing and sprinkled (撒) chocolate chips on the top. “Good job!” Raymond said. By then, we were already running late.
When we finally hurried to the auction,I found a long table full of well-designed cookies. 4 , some of ours were the wrong shape and the icing even melted. I felt my face turn red, but Raymond didn’t seem ashamed of our 5 . He placed our cookies at the end of the table. I handed him eight dollars, Bid (出价) on some nice ones you liked, okay?”
Soon, the auction began. Parents and kids called out bids one after another, and the beautifully shaped cookies quickly got higher and higher offers. I kept looking at our messy cookies at the end of the table, my face 6 again. I tried to pull Raymond to look at a nicely decorated bag of strawberry cookies, but he shook his head, his eyes fixed on our own cookies. When the auctioneer finally picked up our bag of cookies, I held my breath and waited to hear people 7 quietly.
Before anyone else could call a bid, Raymond already raised his hand and shouted “Eight dollars!” loudly, his voice clear and 8 across the room.
On the way home, he bit into one of our cookies and told me it was the most delicious cookie he ever had. At that moment, I 9 what mattered wasn’t how wonderful the cookies looked. These 10 cookies that I baked together with my son were the most valuable treasure. I promised myself I would spend more time making such beautiful memories with him.

I had never baked cookies before, so we followed the instructions 1 . We shaped the dough (面团) into small rounds, and confidently placed them on a baking tray in the oven. Fifteen minutes later, I was 2 that the cookies were not the golden and perfectly shaped ones in advertisements.
