English Homework Helps Me Level Up!
Among all kinds of English homework, I like role-play best. It makes boring language learning full of fun and helps me practise speaking in real situations.
Last month, our English teacher asked us to role-play a conversation between a doctor and a patient. My partner and I wrote the lines carefully, practised pronunciation again and again, and even prepared simple tools. When we acted it out in class, we got praise from our classmates.
Through this homework, I not only learned useful medical-related words and sentences, but also became more confident in speaking English. I believe role-play will keep improving my English.

Now lots of tall buildings stand everywhere, and city roads are much wider. But I also find a serious problem. Our environment is not as good as it was before — there are problems such as dirty rivers and noisy parks. I hope our city can develop quickly and pay more attention to environmental protection. To find those secrets, he studied rocks and mountains all his life. He also travelled to different places to study landforms. He made many important discoveries. These discoveries helped China find more oil resources and understand earthquakes better. Besides doing research, he wrote science books for teenagers in his free time. His spirit deeply touches many young people. Everyone respects Li Siguang for his great discoveries. I want to be a useful person to society like him. Step by step, I hope to achieve my dream of being an astronaut. So, tell me who you admire most. Looking forward to your reply.

Dear friends, let’s check out the students’ learning tips. Last week, our class held a meeting about smart learning. Five students shared their methods. Lin Tao uses mind maps to connect key points. They can help him remember things quickly. Wang Fang takes notes carefully. Her clear notes help her review well. Chen Yu asks his teachers for guidance. For example, his maths teacher often gives him advice on how to improve maths. Li Meng builds up confidence. She can solve difficult problems with courage. Zhang Wei watches short videos about science. They make hard ideas easy to understand. These methods work well. They help us learn better and enjoy our studies more. I will try some of them.

【新课标·学习策略】 Instead of boring grammar worksheets (活页练习册), students in Class 8 got an exciting task. The task asked them to plan a one-day trip to the City Museum and make a simple English guidebook. Their teacher, Mr Smith, called it a “Project-Based Learning (PBL)” challenge. He said it would help them use English in real life.
At first, the students were worried. “How do we start?” asked Chen Yu, a quiet student. Mr Smith smiled, “Work together and find the ways yourselves.”
The teacher divided (把……分成) the class into three groups. The research group looked for information about the art show on the website. The design group drew simple pictures to make the guidebook nice. The language group wrote clear introductions and checked the English texts for foreign visitors.
They had some small problems and argued with each other at first. With the help of Mr Smith, they learned to talk nicely and finally made up. When they showed their guidebooks to the museum director, Mr Li, he was surprised. “These are better than our official ones!” he said.
On the trip day, all the students actively introduced the museum to the visitors in English. “I used to think English was just words in a book,” Chen Yu said. “Now I know it’s a useful tool. It can help us connect with the world.”

For over thirty years, the Hubble Space Telescope (望远镜) has helped scientists get a deeper understanding of outer space. Then in 2022, the James Webb Space Telescope entered service.
Just like Hubble, the new telescope is named after a famous person. However, James Edwin Webb wasn’t a scientist or an engineer. So why is he worth remembering?
To find out the answer to this question, let’s go back to 1961. By then, Webb had worked in public service. NASA invited him to work as their leader. However, he was unwilling to take the job since he knew little about science and technology. But NASA told him that they needed a leader with excellent management skills. Finally, he had to accept the invitation.
Under Webb’s management, NASA made great progress in its exploration of space. ▲ One of the worst accidents in the history of spaceflight happened in 1967. Three astronauts died during a test. After the accident, Webb tried his best to lead the organization to solve all the problems. His hard work helped NASA achieve greater success later. In July 1969, nine months after Webb retired (退休) from NASA, the Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon.
Webb played an important role in human exploration of outer space. It’s no wonder that NASA decided to remember this man by naming its new space telescope after him.

A. They are used to explore space. B. They are named after scientists.
C. They were invented by engineers. D. They have served for thirty years.

A. Friendly. B. Creative. C. Adventurous. D. Successful.

That’s why they are popular with both young and old people,” she said. Xiao’s restaurant is running well now. The exhibition hall attracts visitors from all over the country.
Villager Li Yuai said she was glad to see her old house become a tourist attraction in the town. “I have to move away for personal reasons. It’s meaningful that the old building has its great value now. It can bring delight to lots of tourists instead of staying empty (空的),” Li said.
“Renovating the old houses has brought hope to our village. We are living better and better lives now,” Hexie Village’s head Huang Kai said.

第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
When it comes to admirable people, Norman Bethune always comes to my mind. He was a famous Canadian doctor. In 1938, he left his comfortable life and flew to China to offer medical support to Chinese soldiers in the war. At that time, medical supplies were short and the working environment was really hard. However, Bethune never complained (抱怨) about the terrible conditions. He worked day and night to treat wounded soldiers, often risking his own life to save more people.
To solve the problem of lacking medical tools, he designed and made simple useful tools by himself. He also taught local doctors and nurses basic medical skills so that they could look after patients without him. He spent every minute he had on medical work and hardly took any time to rest. Unluckily, he got a serious cut during an operation (手术) and passed away soon after. He gave not only his time but also his life to help others.
Bethune’s story has touched people of different ages for many years. The most valuable spirit he shows us is selflessness. He always put others’ safety and needs above his own. For us teenagers today, we do not need to face wars, but we can still carry forward this great spirit in small daily things. The spirit of caring for others will guide us to become better persons as we grow up.
71. Where was Norman Bethune from?
72. Why did Bethune go to China in 1938?
73. How did Bethune deal with the problem of lacking medical tools?
74. What caused his death?
75. What meaningful things will Bethune’s spirit lead you to do? Give one example and explain.
