I was born and grew up in a small town, where every morning, I wake up to the sound of bikes or 1 bikes passing by—they are the milk delivery people who start their day earlier than most of us. As a kid growing up in this quiet town, I often watched them ride 2 the narrow streets for many kilometres, which is tiring but necessary for their work. Their main job is to bring fresh milk to every family and the only small shop in town by 7:00 a.m., and they never 3 to keep this promise. An important 4 for their job is carefulness, and they take it very seriously.
In our small town, it’s not easy to get milk to every doorstep on time, especially with the winding roads. We get to enjoy cold, fresh milk each morning, 5 these delivery workers. That’s exactly where their value lies—they make our quiet small—town life a little easier with their hard work.
(B)
A.daily B.impression C. seriously D.dairy E. light F. sort
Li Hua, who is one of the milk delivery people I know well, once shared his work with me. He said, “Our job is simple but important. In the morning, we pick up milk bottles from the nearby 6 factory. Then we 7 them by the names and addresses of the townsfolk. We use colourful stickers to help us remember who gets which bottle.” His words made me understand their 8 efforts better.
Even if it rains or snows heavily, they still deliver the milk on time to make sure everyone gets their milk, and when we smile and thank them, their faces 9 up with happiness. They take great pride in their job, doing small things well every day. These ordinary milk delivery people have left a deep 10 on me, for they teach me that every hard-working person is worthy of respect in our small town.

1.根据中文提示“询问时间”以及空后Charlie强调需要准时到达“I need to get there on time.” Rachel的答语“It will start at 2 p.m.”直接说明了具体时间,故用疑问句“when will it start”或“what time will it start”自然引出答语并衔接下文。
2.Charlie了解时间后需询问其他准备事项,后文Rachel回答“You need to prepare a 3-minute speech and a poster about yourself.”说明了具体准备内容,故用疑问句“what do I need to prepare”或“what should I prepare”进行提问,与下文形成完整问答。
3.Charlie补充道“I heard it was going to be moved to the gym last week.”,想确认活动地点是否更改,Rachel随后予以否定“No, it isn't. It's still going to be held in the school hall…”,故用一般疑问句“is it going to be held in the gym”或“is it in the gym”进行求证,与Rachel的否定回答形成紧密衔接。
4.Charlie提到自己4点有一场数学考试,需询问活动的持续时长,Rachel随后答出“I think it will only take one and a half hours in total.”,主句“Could you please tell me…”后接宾语从句需用陈述语序,故用“how long it will take”或“how long it will last”自然引出Rachel对活动时长的回答。
5.在Rachel给出自信表达的建议后,Charlie表示接受“I will.”,后文Rachel以客套用语“You're welcome! Good luck tomorrow!” 或“Thanks for your help/advice.”
Read the passage and complete the tasks
The Clay Figure Zhang (Niren Zhang) is a beloved traditional Chinese art form rooted in Tianjin, founded by the skilled artist Zhang Mingshan in the late Qing Dynasty. As an important part of China’s intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产), it is famous for its fine craftsmanship and highly realistic style around the world.
Artists shape each clay character with great care, paying close attention to every detail, from the exact curve of a character’s body to their lively facial expressions. Each piece tells a different story. It might be a famous historical character, a lively character from Chinese myths and fairy tales, or a warm scene from daily life. This mix of realism and narrative makes the Clay Figure Zhang a wonderful way to present and share Chinese culture and traditions.
To keep the art interesting for young people, modern creators mix classic clay-making skills with modern art. For example, Zhang Yu, the sixth-generation inheritor, has added new elements (元素) in his playful works like Monkey on Horseback. This creative mix of old and new ensures the art remains meaningful and easy for today’s youth to understand and appreciate. Artists also choose materials carefully. The main material is a special soft clay, which is carefully processed to get the perfect texture for shaping. Natural paints are used to make the figures both visually beautiful and surprisingly durable (耐用的).
In short, the Clay Figure Zhang is a shining example of traditional Chinese craftsmanship. Because of its special artistic style and rich cultural heritage, the Clay Figure Zhang holds a special place in Tianjin’s culture, passing on the cultural legacy from one generation to the next.
It also draws attention from all over the world. Nowadays, more and more young Chinese people are willing to share the Clay Figure Zhang around the world because they take pride in China’s intangible cultural heritage. Conquering the “I’ll Do It Tomorrow” monster
Good morning, everyone. Let’s be honest — how many of you have ever told yourselves, “I’ll start this tomorrow,” only to find yourself stressed and rushing the night before it’s due? Yeah, me too. For the longest time, I was the master of procrastination (拖延). “One more video” was my motto, and my to-do lists were forever unfinished.
My breaking point came in 10th grade. I had a major history presentation. I had weeks to prepare for it. My plan was beautiful … in my head. In reality, I spent those weeks doing everything but the work. The night before, I was a disaster — cramming, crying, and trying to stay awake. The result was disappointing, and I was exhausted. I knew I needed a real change.
My turnaround started with one simple rule: just start. I began with the 5-minute trick: tell yourself you’ll only work on something for five minutes. Starting was often the hardest part, and once I began, I kept going.
To make my progress easy to be seen, I began using a simple weekly planner. I broke tasks into tiny, specific steps for each day. Instead of writing “work on essay”, my planner now said: “Write the introduction paragraph (3:00-3:30 PM).” I used a simple red marker to physically cross off each tiny task. Each checkmark in the planner became a small win, and seeing a week planned out took my worries away.
I also had to deal with perfectionism I learned that done is better than perfect. Waiting for the ideal moment was just another form of delay. And when I did fall back, I learned to reset without guilt and take the next small step.
This wasn’t about becoming a productivity machine. It was about trading last-minute panic for peace of mind. The time will pass either way. Why not spend it feeling in control instead of chasing deadlines?
Start small. Try five minutes. Break one task down. You might just find that tomorrow doesn’t have to be so scary.Task1: Answer the questions.
1.Did the writer realize she needed a real change after her disappointing history presentation in 10th grade?
2.What is the “5- minute trick” according to the writer?
3.Which is more likely to be seen in the writer’s weekly planner, “Review for the English test” or “Recite Chapter 5 word bank (4:00-4:40 PM)”?
4.What does the writer mean by saying “done is better than perfect”?
5.According to the passage, what did the writer do when she fell back into her old habits?
Task 2:
6.What does “growth” truly mean according to the writer’s experience? Please give an example from your own life. Write a short paragraph in about 30 words.
1.Yes, she did. 2.Tell yourself you’ll only work on something for five minutes. 3.
Recite Chapter 5 word bank (4:00-4:40 PM). 4.It means finishing the task is more important than making it perfect. 5.She learned to reset without guilt and take the next small step. 6.
Growth means overcoming bad habits. I used to delay homework. Now I start with small steps and finish tasks on time, feeling more confident and in control.
1.文章第二段原文写到“The result was disappointing, and I was exhausted. I knew I needed a real change.”,交代作者十年级历史展示效果糟糕,身心疲惫之后,意识到自己需要真正做出改变。原文直接给出事实信息,此处需作出肯定回答Yes, she did.
2.文章第三段原文写到“I began with the 5-minute trick: tell yourself you’ll only work on something for five minutes.”,给出“5-minute trick”的解释,告诉自己只花五分钟去做这件事,一旦开始就可以继续坚持。
3.文章第四段原文写到“I broke tasks into tiny, specific steps for each day. Instead of writing ‘work on essay’, my planner now said: ‘Write the introduction paragraph (3:00-3:30 PM)’”,说明作者习惯将任务拆成细小、具体并附带时间的任务,不用笼统的任务描述。“Recite Chapter 5 word bank (4:00-4:40 PM)”符合作者的记录方式。
4.文章第五段原文写到“I learned that done is better than perfect. Waiting for the ideal moment was just another form of delay.”,引出这句话来对抗完美主义,等待完美时机本身也是拖延。
5.文章第五段原文写到“And when I did fall back, I learned to reset without guilt and take the next small step.”,写明当作者退回旧习惯时,她学会不带愧疚地重新调整,迈出下一小步。
Read the passage and complete the tasks.
During Ben Cloud’s second year in high school, he took a few business classes. They sparked his interest and filled his head with ideas to start his own business. He started by naturally thinking about things he liked. First, it was clothing. Then coffee. He thought about opening a coffee shop or a clothing shop. But both ideas seemed too hard and costly.
Some might stop right there and keep going about their regular life. But Ben is different. He kept thinking and came up with the idea of selling his own brand of coffee. He felt like there were possibilities to do this without too much money or risk. So he turned to the internet and started doing research. He finally found a coffee bean supplier. He had to learn about all of the legalities (法律方面) of starting a business. They seemed difficult to him but he never gave up.
To set up his own business, Ben began testing different versions of beans with his friends and family, getting the feedback and improving his products. He only had a little bit of savings from his birthdays and part-time jobs over the years, but he didn’t want to borrow money to start his business. Without enough money, he bartered with designers to help him with his logo, product pictures, and website design. He would supply them with coffee in exchange for their design talent! Six months later, he managed to set up his website for selling coffee.
After launching (正式推出) his website, Ben started to sell his coffee at his local high school coffee shop, then a restaurant, and then local shops. Ben is now working on expanding (扩大) sales of his coffee to grocery stores and more in his local community. He does have plans to expand nationally.
Ben Cloud is an excellent example of a young person pushing himself to become the best he can be. In a recent interview, he told reporters that his next goal is to help other kids and show them how they might start their own business.Task 1: Answer the questions.
1.Did Ben Cloud run a coffee shop or a clothing shop during his second year in high school?
2.Why did Ben Cloud choose to sell his own coffee brand?
3.What does the underlined word “bartered” in paragraph 3 probably mean?
4.Where did Ben sell his coffee first after setting up his website?
5.What kind of person is Ben Cloud from the last paragraph? (No more than 6 words)
Task 2:
6.In a recent interview, Ben Cloud mentioned his goal to help other kids. Suppose you were Ben, what would you say in about 30 words? (At least 2 points)
1.No, he didn’t. 2.Because it didn’t require too much money or risk. 3.Exchange. 4
At his local high school coffee shop. 5.He is helpful and kind. 6.First, you should find what you like and research it well on the internet. Second, never give up when facing difficulties and try to solve problems creatively with less money.
1.根据文章第1段“He thought about opening a coffee shop or a clothing shop. But both ideas seemed too hard and costly.(他想过开咖啡店或服装店。但这两个想法似乎太难且成本太高。)”可知,他在高二时并未开设这两种店铺,只是有过想法。答案需做否定回答。
2.根据文章第2段“He felt like there were possibilities to do this without too much money or risk.(他觉得这样做有可能不需要太多的钱或风险。)”
3.根据文章第3段“He would supply them with coffee in exchange for their design talent!(他将为他们提供咖啡以交换他们的设计才华!)”
4.根据文章第4段“After launching his website, Ben started to sell his coffee at his local high school coffee shop...(推出网站后,本开始在当地高中咖啡店销售他的咖啡⋯⋯)”可知,网站建立后,他最先销售的地点是高中咖啡店。
5.根据文章第5段“...his next goal is to help other kids and show them how they might start their own business.(他的下一个目标是帮助其他孩子,并向他们展示如何开始自己的生意。)” He is helpful and kind.
Does a longer day mean more work?
When the school bell rings at four, some students still sit over their books until late at night. Many adults do the same at the office. They stay after six, answer messages at supper, and call it hard work. A simple question is worth asking: does more time at the desk always mean more real work?
In 2022, 61 companies in the United Kingdom tried a four-day week. About 2,900 people worked fewer hours but kept the same pay. After six months, most companies did not lose money. Some even did a little better. Workers said they slept more and felt less burned out. Ninety-two percent of the firms chose to keep the shorter week.
This surprised people who believe that time and output rise together, like two trains on the same track (轨道). Scientists who study attention say the two trains often run apart. Most of us think most clearly between nine and eleven in the morning. After lunch, around two or three, the brain dips. Sitting through that dip with more emails does not make the morning brain come back. It only makes the evening longer.
Fang Hongbo, chairman of the Chinese company Midea, once said that more than 95 percent of overtime is empty. He does not work after six. The company later stopped meetings after hours. His point was not that work is unimportant. It was that looking busy is not the same as being useful. Extra hours ____________. A tired person can fill eight extra hours and still leave the real problem untouched.
None of these means that difficult tasks need no time. A doctor on a night shift or a student before an exam—they cannot always finish their work at five. The lesson is smaller and stricter. First, decide what must be done. Then, give it the hours when the mind is awake. The rest of the clock is not automatically gold. If Jacob finishes his key maths in the morning and walks at dusk (黄昏), he may learn more than his classmate Kevin who just copies notes until midnight. Work, like sleep, has a shape. Stretching (拉伸) it without care does not make it larger. It only makes it thinner.Task 1: Answer the questions.
1.Did most of the British companies lose money after they tried a four-day week?
2.What does “burned out” in paragraph 2 mean?
3.What do scientists mean by “two trains that often run apart” in paragraph 3?
4.According to paragraph 4, what can be filled in the blank?
5.Why may Jacob learn more than Kevin?
Task 2:
6.Imagine you are Fang Hongbo. An employee always stays after 6 p.m. and looks very busy. What would you say to him? (Write about 30 words)
1.No, they didn’t. 2.It means tired/exhausted. 3.Time and output do not always rise together. 4.are not always useful 5.Because Jacob works when his mind is awake. 6.I appreciate your hard work, but staying late doesn’t mean being useful. Please go home at 6 p.m. and rest. We value efficiency, not just long hours.
1.根据文章第2段“After six months, most companies did not lose money.”
2.根据文章第2段“Workers said they slept more and felt less burned out.”
3.根据文章第3段“This surprised people who believe that time and output rise together, like two trains on the same track (轨道). Scientists who study attention say the two trains often run apart.”
4.根据文章第4段“It was that looking busy is not the same as being useful. Extra hours ____________.”及后文“A tired person can fill eight extra hours and still leave the real problem untouched.”
5.根据文章第5段“Then, give it the hours when the mind is awake. The rest of the clock is not automatically gold. If Jacob finishes his key maths in the morning... he may learn more than his classmate Kevin who just copies notes until midnight.”
I appreciate your hard work, but staying late doesn’t mean being useful. Please go home at 6 p.m. and rest. We value efficiency, not just long hours.
