阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A

Many people often stop and wonder how to live a meaningful life. Some hold the belief that life’s meaning comes from extraordinary success, wide-spread fame or great wealth, but an old volunteer named Mrs. Brown holds a completely different opinion. For more than twenty years, she has devoted most of her spare time to looking after elderly neighbours living alone in her community.

Mrs. Brown never carries out amazing or world-changing tasks. Each week, she pays visits to three elderly neighbours with no family nearby. She helps tidy their rooms, buys daily necessities for them and patiently listens to their life stories. On quiet afternoons, sometimes she simply sits beside them, sharing a cup of warm tea and chatting about little things in daily life.

Once, an 82-year-old neighbour told her that he suffered from deep loneliness most days. Hardly anyone stopped to talk with him before Mrs. Brown appeared. Those simple regular visits brought him great comfort and warmth.

When young people come to ask Mrs. Brown for advice, she always says that a meaningful life is measured not by what you receive from the world, but by what you choose to give. You do not have to wait for a rare big opportunity to make a difference. Helping strangers carry heavy shopping bags, cheering up a sad classmate who meets trouble or caring for small young plants in the community garden are all valuable acts.

She also reminds us that living meaningfully does not require us to stay strong all the time. It is perfectly normal to feel down or run into difficulties in our life journey. The key point is not to give up easily and keep carrying out small acts of kindness. These little efforts will stay in people’s memory and spread warmth quietly little by little.
