For years, I could never fully understand why so many people failed to practice this simple rule. It seemed easy enough to imagine others’ situations before passing judgment, until a small family incident forced me to reflect deeply on my own blind spots. Last Tuesday evening, I lost my temper over my 14-year-old son Leo. His teachers had sent me three warning messages that week: he frequently handed in unfinished homework and arrived late for morning classes almost every day. I blamed him simply for being lazy and lacking self-discipline, without giving him a single chance to explain. Instead of shouting back, Leo lowered his head and spoke in a soft, tired voice. Our home lies more than 25 kilometers away from his school. The bus ride alone takes one hour each way. The bumpy, noisy bus leaves no quiet space for him to focus on schoolwork. By the time he gets home after rush-hour traffic, it is already dark, and he is too exhausted to finish heavy assignments quickly. His words struck me silent all at once. I suddenly realized I had only focused on his bad performance, totally ignoring the tough struggles hidden behind his mistakes. This conversation brought me a clear insight: everyone can recall a great many wise rules, yet putting them into real action is surprisingly hard. I have long told my family and friends to stay considerate, but whenever I am seized by negative emotions, I instinctively jump to blame others. I fix my eyes on visible results rather than digging out unseen difficulties others are going through. The theory of empathy sounds simple, but self-control against sudden anger is the biggest barrier standing in our way. I have gradually formed two small habits to avoid prejudiced judgment. Before blaming anyone, I will consistently picture myself standing in their position, and feel pressure firsthand. Besides, I force myself to pause for fifteen full seconds before saying any critical words. That short pause can calm my sudden anger, break my fixed prejudice, and leave space for real understanding between people. 4. Why does the author talk about the value of empathy at the very beginning? A. To create an unexpected sharp contrast. B. To lead in the following personal story. C. To provide related supporting statistics. D. To prove a viewpoint with opposite examples. 5. What was Leo’s attitude when faced with the author’s blame? A. Calm and worried. B. Furious and defensive. C. Confused and doubtful. D. Unconcerned and careless. 6. What is the greatest difficulty in practicing empathy? A. Having too many things to do. B. Lacking enough life experience. C. Being controlled by sudden bad emotions. D. Failing to remember valuable life lessons. 7. What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A. A hidden harm of biased judgment. B. Practical methods to avoid biased judgment. C. Long-term benefits of keeping silent when annoyed. D. The importance of patient communication with teenagers. B 5. A 6. C 7. 根据文章第一段“Putting ourselves in others’ shoes is the most basic quality of a decent person. For years, I could never fully understand why so many people failed to practice this simple rule. It seemed easy enough to imagine others’ situations before passing judgment, until a small family incident forced me to reflect deeply on my own blind spots.(换位思考是一个正直的人最基本的品质。 根据文章第四段“The theory of empathy sounds simple, but self-control against sudden anger is the biggest barrier standing in our way.(共情的理论听起来简单,但克制突发怒火是阻碍我们的最大障碍)”可知,践行共情最大的难处就是被突发的不良情绪控制。 根据文章最后一段“I have gradually formed two small habits to avoid prejudiced judgment. Before blaming anyone, I will consistently picture myself standing in their position, and feel pressure firsthand. Besides, I force myself to pause for fifteen full seconds before saying any critical words.(我慢慢养成两个小习惯来避免带有偏见的评判。在指责任何人之前,我总会设想自己处在对方的位置,切身感受压力。此外,在说出批评话语前,我强迫自己完整停顿十五秒)”可知,本段主要讲述避免偏见评判的实用方法。 C A new research confirmed that Shakespeare truly boosts children’s reading and writing skills and emotional intelligence provided that his works are acted out. “What we’ve learned is that the techniques actors use have a powerful effect on how children handle language and how they perceive themselves,” said Siri Lee of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). The randomized control trial involved hundreds of year 5 pupils — aged nine and ten — at 45 primary schools that had not been “previously exposed to RSC teaching approach.” They were split into target and control groups and asked to write, for example, a message in a bottle as Ferdinand after the shipwreck in The Tempest. The target group was given a 30-minute drama-based activity to accompany the passage. The results showed that the target group of pupils drew on a wider vocabulary, used words “classed as more complicated or rarer”, and wrote at greater length. They also “appear to be more comfortable writing in role. While control pupils imagine how they themselves would react to being shipwrecked, target children put themselves in the shoes of a literary character and express the character’s emotion”. The Time to Act study also found that while control pupils relied on “deserted island conventions” such as palm trees, target pupils were “more expansive giving a broader picture of the sky, the sea and the atmospheric conditions.” Siri Lee said she had been most surprised by the “emotional literacy that was evident in the target children’s writing” and that they were “more resilient in their writing, more hopeful”. She added: “The emotional understanding was very evident and it is probably related to the rehearsal room process where you are used to trying to imagine your way through. They were comfortable in describing different emotional states and part of what you do in drama is put yourself in different shoes.” The study showed the importance of embedding arts in education, she said. But could the results be replicated with any old dramatist? Siri Lee said more research would be needed but suggested that the grammar school boy’s use of 20,000 words, compared with the everyday 2,000 words, gave a “massive expansion of language into children’s lives”, which was combined with children “using their whole bodies to bring words to life”. 8. Why were the pupils divided into two groups? A. To illustrate the popularity of RSC. B. To prove the advantage of acting-out. C. To measure their writing speed. D. To see their understandings of a drama. 9. What did control pupils’ reliance on “deserted island conventions” show? A. Their preference for big words. B. Their casual style of writing. C. Their weakness in description. D. Their ignorance of small details. 10. What can be inferred about Shakespeare’s use of words? A. It overshadows that of other dramatists. B. It is overly challenging to students. C. It enriches children’s daily vocabulary. D. It is definitely scholarship-oriented. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Acting Out Shakespeare: A Stone, Two Birds B. Follow in Shakespeare’s Footsteps C. Shakespeare: Language Strugglers’ Cure-all D. Shakespeare: Easier Said Than Done 【答案】8. B 9. C 10. C 11. 根据原文第一段“New research confirmed that Shakespeare truly boosts children’s reading and writing skills and emotional intelligence provided that his works are acted out.(新研究证实:倘若通过戏剧表演的形式演绎莎士比亚的作品,就能切实提升孩子们的读写能力与情商。)”及第二段“They were split into target and control groups and asked to write, for example, a message in a bottle as Ferdinand after the shipwreck in The Tempest. The target group was given a 30-minute drama-based activity to accompany the passage.(他们被分成实验组和对照组,比如要求学生扮演《暴风雨》中遭遇海难后的费迪南德写一封漂流瓶信件,实验组会配合课文开展三十分钟戏剧活动。)” 根据原文第三段“The Time to Act study also found that while control pupils relied on “deserted island conventions” such as palm trees, target pupils were “more expansive giving a broader picture of the sky, the sea and the atmospheric conditions.”(这项名为“行动时刻”的研究还发现,对照组学生只会套用棕榈树这类荒岛写作套路,实验组学生描写内容更丰富,能细致描绘天空、大海和环境氛围。)” 根据原文最后一段“Siri Lee said more research would be needed but suggested that the grammar school boy’s use of 20,000 words, compared with the everyday 2,000 words, gave a “massive expansion of language into children’s lives”, which was combined with children “using their whole bodies to bring words to life”.(Siri Lee表示还需要更多研究,但提出莎士比亚拥有两万个词汇,远超日常两千常用词,极大拓展了孩子接触到的语言内容,还能配合肢体表演活化文字。)” 根据原文第一段“New research confirmed that Shakespeare truly boosts children’s reading and writing skills and emotional intelligence provided that his works are acted out.(一项新研究证实,如果用表演形式演绎莎士比亚作品,能切实提升孩子的读写能力与情商。)” D Mindfulness is such a hot word. We all want it. But while mindfulness may be credited as a key to happiness, mind-wandering is the key to our survival as a species. According to Michael Graziano, a professor of psychology and neuroscience, humans evolved to prioritize immediate threats. “Having your attention focused on external events happening in the moment is of great importance during “fight-or-flight” moments,” says Graziano. But the other side of it is also important: when our mind wanders, that, too, is essential to our survival, says Graziano. “It’s partly about remembering how to survive the saber tooth tiger (剑齿虎), but it might also be about social interactions. There are a lot of benefits to mind-wandering so long as you’re not doing it the moment a tiger is attacking you,” says Graziano. Often, when our minds wander, we’re thinking about past and future social interactions and how to conduct them. And this phenomenon isn’t by chance. Emiliano Bruner, a paleoneurobiologist (古神经生物学家), explains that it originates from the brain’s parietal cortex (顶叶皮层). His 2022 study reveals that this region expanded significantly in modern humans, enabling outstanding capacities of visual imaging, along with imagination of past and future. “This is a wonderful superpower for evolution, promoting evolutionary fitness, but it’s also a drawback for individuals because it can cause overthinking, fears and anxiety,” says Bruner. Today, this ability to survive is also the source of a lot of human sufferings. According to Bruner, in psychology, this is called “negativity prejudice” — or our natural instinct to think negatively about the future to remove any threats to our survival. “Evolution did its job, and happiness is not among its priorities,” says Bruner. Bruner says that because mind wandering was important to our evolutionary survival, humans today need to control the damage it can do to our lives. Regular meditation, for example, is a tool that has been proven by research to increase time spent in the present moment and limit the overthinking that brings mental pains. 12. Why does the author mention “fight-or-flight” in paragraph 2? A. To criticize its negative impact on modern mental health. B. To argue that humans no longer rely on evolutionary instincts. C. To compare different roles of mindfulness and mind-wandering. D. To emphasize its role as the only survival strategy humans need. 13. What is the main idea of paragraph 3? A. The danger of mind-wandering during attacks. B. The benefits of mindfulness in social interactions C. The connection of social skills to human survival. D. The evolutionary role of mind-wandering in safe periods. 14. Which of the following statements might Bruner agree with? A. We developed “negativity prejudice” after we were born. B. Mind-wandering is a drawback for individuals and should be avoided. C. Evolutionary adaptations prioritize survival over mental well-being. D. The expansion of the parietal cortex in humans enables us to better focus. 15. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage? A. Meditation Fixes Evolutionary Flaws B. A Wandering Mind Is Part of Our Evolution C. The Dangers of Overthinking in Modern Life D. The History of Neuroscience and Human Evolution 【答案】12. C 13. D 14. C 15. 根据第二段“According to Michael Graziano, a professor of psychology and neuroscience, humans evolved to prioritize immediate threats. “Having your attention focused on external events happening in the moment is of great importance during “fight-or-flight” moments,” says Graziano. But the other side of it is also important: when our mind wanders, that, too, is essential to our survival, says Graziano.(根据心理学和神经科学教授迈克尔·格拉齐亚诺的说法,人类进化过程中倾向于优先关注眼前的威胁。“在‘战斗或逃跑’的时刻,将注意力集中在当下发生的外部事件上至关重要,”格拉齐亚诺表示。但他也指出,另一面同样重要:当我们的思绪游离时,这对我们生存而言也是必不可少的)”可知,作者在第二段提到“战斗或逃跑”是为了比较正念与走神的不同作用。 【13题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段““It’s partly about remembering how to survive the saber tooth tiger (剑齿虎), but it might also be about social interactions. There are a lot of benefits to mind-wandering so long as you’re not doing it the moment a tiger is attacking you,” says Graziano. Often, when our minds wander, we’re thinking about past and future social interactions and how to conduct them. And this phenomenon isn’t by chance.(“这在一定程度上关乎如何记住如何躲避剑齿虎,但也可能与社会互动有关。 根据第一段“Mindfulness is such a hot word. We all want it. But while mindfulness may be credited as a key to happiness, mind-wandering is the key to our survival as a species.(正念如今是个热门词汇,人人都向往。 Have you ever found yourself lost in a book, turning pages without really processing the words? It happens to the best of us. ____16____ For them, reading isn’t just about understanding the text; it’s about thinking critically, making connections, and engaging with what they’re reading. This is where questioning techniques come into play in reading instruction. At its core, questioning techniques are strategies used to inspire readers to think critically about what they are reading. ____17____ Just like how exercise strengthens muscles, asking questions while reading strengthens comprehension skills. It pushes readers to not only understand the story but to analyze it, evaluate it, and sometimes even challenge it. ____18____ The types of questions asked can vary depending on the level of engagement required. There are easy literal questions that ask for information directly from the text and also inferential and evaluative questions that require readers to read between the lines. There are even predictive questions that encourage readers to make predictions about what will happen next. ____19____ But together, they create a rich, engaging reading experience that goes beyond just decoding words on a page. You might be wondering, “Why does this matter?” Can’t students just read and understand on their own? Well, the truth is, reading is more than just recognizing words. ____20____ In a world overloaded with information, teaching students how to think critically about what they read is more important than ever. Questioning techniques in reading instruction provide students with the tools they need to become thoughtful, engaged, and reflective readers. A. Each type serves a different purpose. B. It’s about making sense of those words. C. Of course, all questions aren’t created equal. D. They can totally transform the reading experience. E. But imagine students who are just learning to read. F. Think of questioning techniques as a mental workout for the brain. G. Be aware that these techniques can be tailored based on reading levels. E 17. F 18. C 19. A 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“Have you ever found yourself lost in a book, turning pages without really processing the words? Nothing made me happier than seeing their eyes light up during these interactive and engaging activities. So I had never imagined that waste items would become our most valuable teaching resources, and that shortage would become the source of our greatest inspiration. Last year, our school was hit by severe budget cuts, which meant many resources for science activities were no longer available. As a teacher who had always relied on vivid experiments to make science fun, I felt extremely frustrated and discouraged. How could I keep my students interested and engaged without the well-equipped lab and expensive materials that had served us so well before? I was at a loss, worrying that my science classes would become boring and ineffective, and that my students would lose their passion for exploring the world through experiments. Just as I was struggling with this problem, my students surprised me in the most unexpected way. When we started our unit on simple machines, something amazing happened. Jamie, a ten-year-old boy full of curiosity, brought in some old bicycle parts from his garage. He said they could be used to make wheels and levers (控制杆). Following his example, Maya shared cardboard boxes that her family had kept for later use. One by one, other students also brought in recycled items: plastic bottles, string, used cans, and even small pieces of wood. By the end of the week, we had transformed the corner of our classroom into an entire “invention lab” using recycled materials and student contributions. At first, I doubted whether these simple, everyday objects could support meaningful learning. However, it turned out the learning that happened in that makeshift (临时的) lab exceeded anything we had accomplished with expensive commercial kits. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 In this makeshift lab, students worked with amazing enthusiasm. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ By the end of the semester, we held a small exhibition for other classes. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 In this makeshift lab, students worked with amazing enthusiasm. Groups gathered around desks piled high with plastic bottles, strings, cardboard boxes, and various waste items. Instead of following strict instructions from expensive commercial kits, they created, tested, and improved their own simple machines. Some used bicycle chains to build a pulley system, while others cut plastic bottles to create a water wheel. When their simple machine successfully lifted a small weight, cheers erupted. Through hands-on creation and repeated attempts, they developed a much deeper understanding of scientific principles. Their eyes shone with confidence and pride, which I had rarely seen before. By the end of the semester, we held a small exhibition for other classes. My students proudly showed off their creations, explaining how they used recycled materials to make something useful. It soon became a hit, inspiring many other classes to collect recycled materials for their own creative activities. The principal visited our classroom and was amazed by what we had accomplished. That day, I learned something no teacher training workshop had ever taught me: constraints don’t kill creativity — they set it free. When we involve students as partners in problem-solving, we tap into their creativity and resourcefulness while building genuine investment in their learning. 词汇激活 行为类 ①聚集:gather/assemble ②解释:explain/interpret ③鼓舞:inspire/motivate/encourage 情绪类 ①自豪地:proudly/with pride ②惊讶的:amazed/surprised/astonished 【点睛】[高分句型1] Their eyes shone with confidence and pride, which I had rarely seen before.(运用了which引导的非限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] The principal visited our classroom and was amazed by what we had accomplished.(运用了what引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高二年级10月练习英语试卷 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段录音,每段录音后有一个小题。从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段录音后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段录音播放两遍。 1. B Putting ourselves in others’ shoes is the most basic quality of a decent person. C A new research confirmed that Shakespeare truly boosts children’s reading and writing skills and emotional intelligence provided that his works are acted out. Shakespeare: Easier Said Than Done D Mindfulness is such a hot word. 12. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
