Ratan Tata, an 86-year-old Indian billionaire and businessman, has never married and has no children or grandchildren. But he does have 12 million followers and a lot of influence and reach among India's youth.
His partner, Niki Thakur, is in her 20s but she grew up without a grandfather. This unusual pair are now both involved in the Goodfellows, a Mumbai-based startup that aims to enhance the lives of both young and old Indians by facilitating new “grandparent- grandchildren-esque (类似祖孙的)" relationships between senior citizens and India's youth.
The Goodfellows model pairs elderly people with younger people. The elderly partner is called the grandpal, and the young helper is called the goodfellow. Thakur explains, “We wanted the bond between the grandpal and the goodfellow to be similar to the relationship shared between a grandparent and grandchild.”
Shantanu Naidu, a former office manager says, “Pairs aren't done using AI because AI wouldn't be able to pick up on slight differences during the introductory visits to the grandpals' homes. There is a lot to be taken note of apart from the circumstantial and demographic parameters (人口参数). This takes a keen eye.”
“Sometimes we see these senior citizens repeating a piece of information frequently,” Naidu continues. “Other times they stop mid-sentence attempting to hold back saying something. These parameters are evaluated during our visits.”
Naidu and his team use the evaluations to make careful, suitable partnerships between the young and the old with similar interests so that it will be a good experience for both.
Goodfellows has been up and running in beta mode since 2021, when Shantanu Naidu floated the idea on the Internet. Niki Thakur, a filmmaker, and Gargi Sandu, a corporate lawyer, saw the post and reached out to Naidu, eventually becoming his partners.
Though Naidu's ultimate objective is to scale up across the country, the young entrepreneur (企业家) is happy with the current progress and doesn't want to move so swiftly in the short term that they compromise on the quality of the partnerships.
24. What is the aim of Goodfellows?
A. To help Indian senior citizens find jobs.
B. To promote AI technology in matching Pairs.
C. To encourage young Indians to start their own businesses.
D. To help young and senior Indians through new relationships.
25. What's Paragraph 4 mainly about?
A. The importance of parameters.
B. The reason why AI can't be used.
C. The process of pairing grandpals.
D. The difficulty Shantanu Naidu faces.
26. What can we learn about Naidu and his team?
A. They ask the young to contact the seniors.
B. They always repeat a piece of information.
C. They usually interrupt the seniors while visiting.
D. They conduct in-person evaluations for the seniors.
27. What does Naidu plan to do next?
A. Scale up across the world.
B. Move quickly in the short term.
C. Make steady and long-term progress.
D. Improve the quality of the partnerships.
C
Nano-and microplastic particles (NMP) are increasingly polluting urban and rural landscapes, where bees and other beneficial insects come into contact with them. Whereas the harmful effects of NMP in water and for individual species are well documented, there have as yet been no systematic reviews on how the particles affect agricultural ecosystems.
To fill this gap, the authors of a novel (新颖的) review summarized 21 already published individual studies for the first time. They were interested particularly in the question of how pollinating insects and other beneficial insects come into contact with NMP and what consequences the ingestion (摄入) of the particles has for them, as well as for the ecosystems that are dependent on them and for agricultural production.
In this way, the researchers first succeeded in identifying different sources from which NMP end up on agricultural land, including plastic films, fertilizers, polluted water, and atmospheric deposition (沉积). The plastic particles accumulate in the soil, and pollinators and beneficial insects that are important for pest control ingest them from the air and food or use them to build nests.
The authors of the study establish that the bees' ingestion of NMP leads, for example, to damage to their digestive system, to a weakening of their immune system, and to changes in their behavior. This makes the bees more easily infected by diseases, possibly causing them to pollinate plants less effectively. A decline in pollination services has a negative effect on crop yield. Thus, plastic pollution could further aggravate existing uncertainties in the global food supply, the researchers warn.
However, there is still a long way to go. For example, only little data is available on important pollinators and beneficial insects. In addition, the current data fails to separate the effects of different sizes and amounts of NMP. Researchers urgently need to conduct further studies to better understand the growing problem of plastic pollution and find solutions to it.……………………弥………封……线………… 内…………不…………要…………答………题………………
28. What do we know about the new review?
A. It is pioneering of its kind.
B. It shows how bees harm NMP.
C. It centers on the harmful effects of NMP in water.
D. It fails to record how the particles affect agricultural ecosystems.
29. How did the researchers come to the conclusion about NMP's influence?
A. By filling the gap between two reviews.
B. By identifying different sources of NMP.
C. By solving the question of how NMP affect bees.
D. By studying existing published relevant research.
30. What does the underlined word “aggravate” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Face. B. Decline. C. Worsen. D. Underestimate.
31. What's the author's purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A. To show the review has come a long way.
B. To display the limitations of the findings.
C. To prove the practical use of data from the review.
D. To arouse public awareness of the problem of plastic pollution.
D
Scientists have studied the processes of thinking in brain regions involved in creativity. However, the question of why some people are more creative than others is still open.
In a new study, researchers studied whether a person's creative thinking ability can be explained, partly, by a connection between three brain networks.
In the study, 163 participants completed a test, where they thought about a new and unusual use of objects. The task of this test was to assess the ability of people to deviate (偏离) from the usual use of the object. For example, one participant suggested using a sock to warm the feet, while another thought of using it as a filter for water.
Scientists also evaluated their ideas for originality and compared the assessment of each person's creativity with all possible brain connections (approximately 35,000) and removed connections with no link to creativity scores.
Scientists have found that people with stronger connections come up with better ideas.
What is happening in a“creative”network? In general, the brain regions associated with creativity belong to three specific brain systems: the default (默认), salience (显著) and executive networks.
The default network is a set of areas of the brain that are activated when people begin to think naturally, for example, to dream and imagine. The network can play a key role in generating ideas or brainstorming. The executive control network is a set of regions that is activated when people need to focus or control their thought processes. This network can play a key role in evaluating an idea. The salience network acts as a switching mechanism between two previous networks. It can play a key role in the alternation of generating an idea and its evaluation.
Usually these networks are not activated at the same time. The results show that creative people are better able to co-activate the brain networks, which usually work separately. Creative people are better able to engage the brain systems that usually do not work together.
32. How did researchers assess participants' creativity in the study?
A. By the originality of their ideas.
B. By their ability to follow instructions.
C. By their speed in coming up with ideas.
D. By their knowledge of unusual objects.
33. What role does the salience network play in creativity?
A. Generating new ideas.
B. Evaluating ideas critically.
C. Switching between brain systems.
D. Controlling emotional reactions.
34. What do study results suggest about creative people's brain systems?
A. They rely on a single brain network.
B. They use more brain regions than non-creative people.
C. They have more connections overall in their brains.
D. They have stronger connections between specific networks.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. The science of creative thinking
B. Brain networks and creativity
C. How to improve your creativity
D. The mystery of the creative brain

It was a bright and sunny day. Lily, a high school student, was on her way to the local library. She had been looking forward to borrowing a particular book about ancient history. As she entered the library, she noticed a commotion (喧闹) near the entrance. A group of people were gathered around an old man who seemed to be in distress.
Lily, being a kind-hearted girl, immediately went over to see what was wrong. The old man, Mr Johnson, had come to the library to return some books but had lost his wallet on the way. He was extremely worried as his ID card, library card, and a small amount of cash were all in it. He kept muttering to himself, "What am I going to do? I really need those cards."
Lily felt sorry for him. She decided to help Mr Johnson look for his wallet. They searched everywhere around the library entrance, in the nearby bushes, and even retraced Mr Johnson's steps for quite a distance, but there was no sign of the wallet. Just as they were about to give up, Lily had an idea.
She remembered that there was a security camera near the entrance of the library. Maybe it had captured the moment when Mr Johnson dropped his wallet. Lily quickly approached the librarian and explained the situation. The librarian was very cooperative and immediately helped them access the security footage. They watched the video carefully, frame by frame. Sure enough, they saw Mr Johnson accidentally drop his wallet while taking out his handkerchief. A young man, who was walking behind him, picked it up. Instead of looking around for the owner, he put the wallet into his pocket and walked away in a hurry. Lily and Mr Johnson were shocked and disappointed. But Lily refused to let this setback stop them.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

Ratan Tata,an 86-year-old Indian billionaire and businessman, has never
married and has no children or grandchildren. But he does have 12 million
followers and a lot of influence and reach among India's youth.
His partner,Niki Thakur,is in her 20s but she grew up without a grandfather.
This unusual pair are now both involved in the Goodfellows,a Mumbai-based
startup that aims to enhance the lives of both young and old Indians by facilitating
new“grandparent--grandchildren-esque(类似祖孙的)"relationships between
senior citizens and India's youth
The Goodfellows model pairs elderly people with younger people. The
elderly partner is called the grandpal, and the young helper is called the
goodfellow.Thakur explains,"We wanted the bond between the grandpal and the
goodfellow to be similar to the relationship shared between a grandparent and
grandchild.”
Shantanu Naidu,a former office manager says,"Pairs aren't done using AI
because AI wouldn't be able to pick up on slight differences during the
introductory visits to the grandpals'homes. There is a lot to be taken note of apart
from the circumstantial and demographic parameters(人口参数).This takes a
keen eye.”
"Sometimes we see these senior citizens repeating a piece of information
frequently,"Naidu continues."Other times they stop mid-sentence attempting to
hold back saying something. These parameters are evaluated during our visits."
Naidu and his team use the evaluations to make careful, suitable partnerships
between the young and the old with similar interests so that it will be a good
experience for both
Goodfellows has been up and running in beta mode since 2021,when
Shantanu Naidu floated the idea on the Internet.Niki Thakur,a filmmaker, and
Gargi Sandu,a corporate lawyer, saw the post and reached out to Naidu,
eventually becoming his partners.
Though Naidu's ultimate objective is to scale up across the country, the
young entrepreneur (is happy with the current progress and doesn't want
to move so swiftly in the short term that they compromise on the quality of the
partnerships.

Nano-and microplastic particles (NMP)are increasingly polluting urban and
rural landscapes, where bees and other beneficial insects come into contact with
them.Whereas the harmful effects of NMP in water and for individual species are
well documented, there have as yet been no systematic reviews on how the
particles affect agricultural ecosystems.
To fill this gap,.the authors of a novel(新颖的)review summarized2l
already published individual studies for the first time. They were interested
particularly in the question of how pollinating insects and other beneficial insects
come into contact with NMP and what consequences the ingestion (of the
particles has for them,as well as for the ecosystems that are dependent on them
and for agricultural production.
In this way,the researchers first succeeded in identifying different sources
from which NMP end up on agricultural land, including plastic films, fertilizers,
polluted water, and atmospheric deposition ()The plastic particles
accumulate in the soil, and pollinators and beneficial insects that are important for
pest control ingest them from the air and food or use them to build nests.
The authors of the study establish that the bees'ingestion of NMP leads, for
example,to damage to their digestive system,to a weakening of their immune
system, and to changes in their behavior. This makes the bees more easily
infected by diseases, possibly causing them to pollinate plants less effectively.A
decline in pollination services has a negative effect on crop yield. Thus, plastic
pollution could further aggravate existing uncertainties in the global food
supply,the researchers warn.
However, there is still a long way to go.For example, only little data is
available on important pollinators and beneficial insects. In addition, the current
data fails to separate the effects of different sizes and amounts of NMP.
Researchers urgently need to conduct further studies to better understand the
growing problem of plastic pollution and find solutions to it.
28.What do we know about the new review?
A.It is pioneering of its kind.
B.It shows how bees harm NMP.
C.It centers on the harmful effects of NMP in water.
D.It fails to record how the particles affect agricultural ecosystems.
29.How did the researchers come to the conclusion about NMP's influence?
A.By filling the gap between two reviews.
B.By identifying different sources of NMP
C.By solving the question of how NMP affect bees.
D.By studying existing published relevant research
30.What does the underlined word"aggravate"in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Face.
B.Decline.
C.Worsen
D.Underestimate.
31.What's the author's purpose in writing the last paragraph?
A.To show the review has come a long way
B.To display the limitations of the findings.
C.To prove the practical use of data from the review.
D.To arouse public awareness of the problem of plastic pollution.
D
Scientists have studied the processes of thinking in brain regions involved in
creativity. However, the question of why some people are more creative than
others is still open.
In a new study, researchers studied whether a person's creative thinking
ability can be explained, partly,by a connection between three brain networks
In the study,163 participants completed a test, where they thought about a
new and unusual use of objects. The task of this test was to assess the ability of
people to deviate (from the usual use of the object. For example, one
participant suggested using a sock to warm the feet, while another thought of
using it as a filter for water.
Scientists also evaluated their ideas for originality and compared the
assessment of each person's creativity with all possible brain connections
(approximately 35,000)and removed connections with no link to creativity scores.
Scientists have found that people with stronger connections come up with better
ideas
What is happening in a"creative"network? In general, the brain regions
associated with creativity belong to three specific brain systems:the default
),salience(显著)and executive networks.
The default network is a set of areas of the brain that are activated when
people begin to think naturally, for example,to dream and imagine. The network
can play a key role in generating ideas or brainstorming. The executive control
network is a set of regions that is activated when people need to focus or control
their thought processes. This network can play a key role in evaluating an idea.
The salience network acts as a switching mechanism between two previous
networks. It can play a key role in the alternation of generating an idea and its
evaluation
Usually these networks are not activated at the same time. The results show
that creative people are better able to co-activate the brain networks, which
usually work separately.Creative people are better able to engage the brain
systems that usually do not work together.
32.How did researchers assess participants'creativity in the study?
A.By the originality of their ideas.
B.By their ability to follow instructions.
C.By their speed in coming up with ideas.
D.By their knowledge of unusual objects.
33.What role does the salience network play in creativity?
A.Generating new ideas.
B.Evaluating ideas critically
C.Switching between brain systems.
D.Controlling emotional reactions.
34.What do study results suggest about creative people's brain systems?
A.They rely on a single brain network
B.They use more brain regions than non-creative people.
C.They have more connections overall in their brains.
D.They have stronger connections between specific networks.
35.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.The science of creative thinking
B.Brain networks and creativity
C.How to improve your creativity
D.The mystery of the creative brain

It was a bright and sunny day.Lily,a high school student, was on her way to
the local library. She had been looking forward to borrowing a particular book
about ancient history. As she entered the library, she noticed a commotion (
near the entrance.A group of people were gathered around an old man who
seemed to be in distress.
Lily, being a kind-hearted girl, immediately went over to see what was
wrong. The old man,Mr Johnson, had come to the library to return some books
but had lost his wallet on the way.He was extremely worried as his ID card,
library card, and a small amount of cash were all in it.He kept muttering to
himself,"What am I going to do?I really need those cards."
Lily felt sorry for him.She decided to help Mr Johnson look for his wallet.
They searched everywhere around the library entrance,in the nearby bushes, and
even retraced Mr Johnson's steps for quite a distance, but there was no sign of the
wallet.Just as they were about to give up,Lily had an idea.
She remembered that there was a security camera near the entrance of the
library.Maybe it had captured the moment when Mr Johnson dropped his wallet.
Lily quickly approached the librarian and explained the situation. The librarian
was very cooperative and immediately helped them access the security footage.
They watched the video carefully, frame by frame.Sure enough, they saw Mr
Johnson accidentally drop his wallet while taking out his handkerchief.A young
man,who was walking behind him, picked it up.Instead of looking around for the
owner,he put the wallet into his pocket and walked away in a hurry.Lily and Mr
Johnson were shocked and disappointed. But Lily refused to let this setback stop
