Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have for one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to do.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both anxious and excited before their first day. You will probably
love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen (高年级学生) will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled (在家自学的) all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
21.What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school?
A.Teachers are quite strict. B.Students often stay up at night.
C.Teachers provide little care for students. D.Students should make good use of their time.
22.What does Frank think would make the high school experience more enjoyable?
A.Make some friends. B.Join in some sports or activities.
C.Take it easy and don’t worry. D.Learn to deal with things and manage time wisely.
23.Who mentions the importance of friends?
A.David. B.Frank. C.Sharon. D.Eddie.

“Your playful days are over,” my brother said to me when he knew I was going to be a senior high school student. Then he continued selling me that senior high school life was boring because I had to do a large amount of homework every day and that the subjects were much more difficult than those of junior high school.
I stepped into the school gate with a nervous heart. However, I was surprised to find what I experienced there was completely different from what my brother had told me.
The teachers gave excellent lessons in their own special way. They talked with me in a natural and fair way, as if I had been an adult. All of them were so knowledgeable(知识渊博的) and they not only explained the contents of textbooks but also provided extra information from other sources. Every word they said in classes made so excited and interested that I had a strong desire to take in as mach as I could.
In fact, my playful days were not over at all in senior high school. There were many kinds of after-school activities I could take part in, such as sports meetings, the art festival, the English comer, outings and so on. Best of all, generally, students rather than teachers organized the activities. Through that process, I improved my leadership abilities and communication skills. I became mature(成熟的) and was not a kid any more.
Now if anyone asks me, “Through your process of growing up, which part is most impressive up till now?” Well, the answer will absolutely be my “senior high school life”.
24.How did the writer feel when starting his senior high school?
A. Very excited B.Worried C.Quite relaxed. D.Awkward
25.What was the writer’s general impression of his senior high school teachers?
A.Strict and organized. B.Friendly and hardworking.
C.Learned and easy-going. D.Helpful and kind-hearted.
26.What has the writer learned by joining in different after-school activities?
A.Doing housework. B.Reading and writing skills.
C.Leadership and social skills. D.The understanding of textbooks.
27.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The writer did well in all his subjects.
B.The writer will no longer believe in his brother.
C.The writer’s senior high school life was boring and tiring.
D.The writer’s senior high school life was the most memorable.
C
In Europe, many people make friends between their countries through town twinning. Town or city twinning means two towns in different countries agree and decide to become “twins” with a sister city relationship.
The people find pen friends in the twin town. They exchange newspapers and stamps. The school teachers discuss teaching methods with the teachers in the twin town.Officials visit the twin town for celebrations.Ordinary people travel to the twin town, too, but not very often if it is far away.
Sometimes, schools even exchange their classes for two or three weeks! For example, German middle school students study for a while at the school in their twin town in Britain, staying with British families. A few months later, their British friends come to study in Germany.
Many British towns are so pleased with the results of the twinning that they set out to find more than one twin town!
Tonbridge, a small town in Kent, for example, has twin towns in both Germany and France. Richmond near London has relationships with Germany, France and even a town in a Balkan country!
Town twinning can help make friends. It helps students improve their language skills, and also helps people to understand the differences between nations.
28. Twin towns develop .
A. in the same country B. between different countries
C. between European countries and China D. in the English-speaking countries only
29. How many countries are mentioned in the passage?
A. 4. B. 5. C. 6. D. 7.
30. One of the advantages of town twinning is .
A. to earn more money B. to set up schools
C. to improve students’ language skills D. to develop industry and agriculture
31. Which is the best title for the passage?
A. Town Twinning B. Friendly Towns
C. Exchanging Teachers and Students D. Peace and Understanding
D
Thirteen-year-old Kaylee has a lot of friends — 532, actually, if you count up her online friends. And she spends a lot of time with them.
But is it possible that Kaylee’s online friendship could be making her lonely? That’s what some experts believe. Connecting online is a great way to stay in touch, they say. However, some experts worry that many kids are so busy connecting online that they might be missing out on true friendship.
Could this be true? During your parents’ childhoods, connecting with friends usually meant spending time with them in the flesh. Kids played Scrabble around a table, not Words With Friends on their phones. When friends missed each other, they picked up the telephone. Friends might even write letters to each other.
Today, most communication takes place online. A typical teenager sends 2,000 texts a month and spends more than 44 hours per week in front of a screen. Much of his time is spent on social media platforms (平台) like Instagram and Facebook.
In fact, in many ways, online communication enables friendship to be stronger. “There’s obviously a positive influence. Kids can stay in constant contact, which means they can share more of their feelings with each other,” says Katie Davis, co-author of The App Generation.
Other experts, however, warn that too much online communication can get in the way of forming deep friendship. “If we are constantly checking out our virtual (虚拟的) world, we will be addicted and have little time for our real-world friendship,” says Rosen, a professor at California State University. Rosen also worries that today’s kids might mistake the “friends” on social media for true friends in life. However, in tough times, you don’t need someone to like your pictures or share your blogs. You need someone who will keep your secrets and hold your hand. You would like to talk face to face.
32. What is the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To summarize the text. B. To encourage online friendship.
C. To bring up a topic. D. To tell something about true friends.
33. What does the underlined part “in the flesh” mean in Paragraph 3?
A. In any case. B. In person. C. In a hurry. D. In advance.
34. What is Katie’s attitude towards online communication?
A. Positive. B. Unconcerned. C. Confused. D. Worried.
35. What view does Rosen hold?
A. It’s wise to turn to online friends.
B. It’s easier to develop friendships in reality.
C. Social media help people stay closely connected.
D. Teenagers need focus on real-world friendships.

Dear Paul,
I’m glad to receive your letter asking for my advice on how to learn Chinese well. Here are some suggestions.
To begin with, it is a good idea to take a Chinese course, where you can follow the teachers and get help from your classmates. Besides, reading some Chinese books and magazine will help you to improve your reading ability. You can also watch some Chinese program on TV, which will improve your listening ability. Additionally, to make sure that learning Chinese isn’t too dull, it would be a good idea to learn to sing some Chinese songs. Last but not least, if possible, make some Chinese friends, so that you can learn languages from each other.
I hope you will find my suggestions beneficial and make great progress in Chinese. Looking forward to receiving your letter written in Chinese.
Yours,
Li Hua
