Last spring,I volunteered at a small community garden near my apartment, expecting
nothing more than simple physical labour:pulling weeds, watering young plants and clearing
dead branches.I viewed it as a casual hobby to fill spare hours and yield a handful of
vegetables, and carried my phone everywhere, ready to pause work and reply to messages
whenever alerts popped up.
One afternoon,an elderly gardener working beside me moved slowly, pausing to study
each seedling before reaching out to touch it.When I rushed to pull out weeds in quick, sharp
tugs,he stopped me,saying plants reveal their needs only to those who slow down enough to
watch them,I laughed at first, dismissing his patience as impractical and fussy(挑剔的),but as
I followed his lead,I picked up on subtle signs I had glossed over()slight curling leaves,
faint shifts in soil moisture, tiny insects feeding gently on the greenery.
That small encounter set me thinking about a common pattern of modern life:we chase
immediate gains and measurable returns, judging every activity by its instant output, and write
off stillness and careful observation as unproductive waste. We long for instant satisfaction,
growing frustrated with processes that unfold at their own pace rather than on our preferred
schedule. The garden taught me a quieter truth:not all valuable progress shows itself in
numbers or finished tasks, and some rewards can never be captured in data or marked off a task
list.True attention demands that we set aside our urge to rush for results, and simply be
present.
Now I visit the garden weekly,my phone is placed deep in my bag.I still value efficiency
in daily work, yet I've come to see that meaning is not always tied to quick achievements.
Some of life's most vital lessons emerge not when we hurry, but when we pause and notice.
24.Which word best describes the author's early gardening practice?
A.Digital-aided.

Every few years,a popular science book emerges that reshapes public understanding of
the human body. The Selfish Gene did so for evolutionary biology in the 1970s,and The
Emperor of All Maladies did the same for cancer research. This month,a new work joins that
select company:Roxanne Khamsi's Beyond Inheritance.
Beyond Inheritance centers on somatic mutation(体细胞突变)一the gradual
accumulation of DNA changes in our cells as we age.Though rarely discussed in mainstream
conversation, its implications are so far-reaching that it is bound to become a landmark in
popular biology writing.
At its core is a simple yet transformative claim:the DNA you were born with is not
identical to what you carry today, nor does it stay static lifelong.Traditional biology teaches
that mutations fall into two categories:either passed down from parents,or random mutations,
mostly rare and causing cancer.Yet years of advanced DNA research shows the latter is far
more common and impactful than previously assumed. Our cells accumulate changes
constantly;by middle age,the body is a mix of cells with slightly different genetic codes. Some
trigger disease,some are harmless,and a few even support the body's self-repair.
Khamsi,an award-winning science journalist, unpacks these ideas with remarkable clarity.
What sets the book apart is its balanced perspective:mutations are not merely a health threat.
The same process can drive illness, but also enable the body to heal itself. For instance, some
children with a severe immune disorder have recovered naturally, thanks to acquired mutations
高三年级英语科试卷第5页共12见
that shut off the faulty gene precisely.
Beyond Inheritance never overstates its conclusions;when evidence is preliminary,
Khamsi acknowledges it openly. This honesty, paired with accessible prose, makes it more than
a casual read.It lays the foundation for a new way of understanding human health, one that will
shape medical research for years to come.
28.What does the underlined phrase "select company"in Paragraph 1 probably refer to?
A.Medical experts
B.Leading firms.
C.Influential reads.
D.Scientific studies.
29.What can be inferred about somatic mutations from the new findings?
A.They are mostly rare.
B.They have mixed effects.
C.They start at middle age.
D.They are inherited from parents.
30.Why does the author mention children with immune disorders?
A.To show the upside of mutations.
B.To highlight medical advancement.
C.To identify the cause of the disease.
D.To stress the randomness of mutations.
31.What type of writing is this article?
A.A research report.
B.A book review.
C.A popular science essay.
D.A news story.

For decades, solar power and crop farming have been widely seen as competitors for
limited agricultural land:installing photovoltaic (panels means occupying farmland,
which is often viewed as a risk to food security. This so-called "land trade-off'has long
restricted the expansion of solar energy in China's main grain-producing regions.Yet a
three-year field study released in June 2026 challenges this view, presenting a practical model
一agrivoltaics(农光互补),which combines power generation and crop production on the
same plot of land.
The research team set up three parallel groups at a test site on the North China Plain:
open-air farmland as control, farmland with standard fixed solar panels, and farmland with
raised single-axis tracking panels. They monitored three core categories of indicators across all
plots:crop yield and quality, solar power output, and soil water consumption plus carbon
emissions. All plots adopted the same winter wheat-summer maize rotation system to ensure
consistent conditions.
高三年级英语科试卷第6页共12页
The results revealed a surprising win-win pattern.Under the raised tracking panels, total
grain yield dropped by only 4.2 percent, while annual power generation reached 1.28 million
kWh per hectare, lifting overall economic retums by 63 percent.More importantly, the shade
from panels cut soil water loss by 18 percent, reducing watering demand, and carbon emissions
per unit of grain fell by 22 percent.
The study provides the first systematic quantitative data on agrivoltaics in China's major
grain regions, offering solid support for the coordinated development of farmland protection
and clean energy transition.Still, researchers acknowledge clear limitations:the trial only
covered staple grain crops, and suitability for vegetables and fruits remains untested."It's not a
one-size-fits-all solution,"notes the lead researcher."But it opens a promising path for more
efficient land use.”
32.What is the purpose of agrivoltaics?
A.To dismiss the land trade-off.
B.To secure agriculture's dominance.
C.To eliminate land-use competition.
D.To balance crop yield with power output.
33.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The selection of test site locations
B.The crop rotation system on the farm.
C.The experimental design of the study.
D.The working principle of solar panels.
34.What can we leamn from the study about the agrivoltaic model?
A.It causes a sharp drop in crop yield.
B.It reduces the demand for farm maintenance.
C.It cuts carbon emissions per unit of land area
D.It boosts both economic and environmental benefits.
35.What is the main point of the last paragraph?
A.The research value and its drawbacks.
B.The importance of land use efficiency.
C.The application prospects of agrivoltaics.
D.The challenges of agricultural transformation

Picking a suitable university in the UK can be challenging with hundreds of higher
education institutions available.36 Understanding their core features and positioning helps
you make the wisest choice for your study abroad journey.
Traditional universities are the oldest and most established group, with long-standing
academic reputations and strict theoretical training. They focus on in-depth academic research,
and many prestigious Russell Group institutions fall into this category with high entry
requirements.37 Metropolitan universities, mostly founded in the 1990s,serve as the
practical-oriented alternative.38They partner closely with local businesses to provide
internship()opportunities,and usually have lower entry requirements than traditional ones.
Specialist universities centre on a single professional field such as art,law or music. They
deliver highly tailored training with industry expert tutors, and are often called"conservatoires"
or“academies'.39
40 No single type is universally superior to the others. The right choice always
depends on your personal learning style and career goals.
A.Each has unique strengths.
B.Class sizes are much smaller there.
C.Three main types dominate the field.
D.They offer diverse occupational courses.
E.They also have well-funded research labs.
F.Yet they may not suit practice-focused learners.
G.The best fit relies on the value and status of the university

In the heart of Oak Town stood Nora's Photo Studio,a tiny weathered shop run by
76-year-old Mrs.Nora.For nearly 40 years, she had taken photos with her old film camera,
following her father's careful way of developing film. She gave customers their original photos,
yet kept extra copies in these albums, allowing townspeople to return and look back on their
cherished memories. The shop, with its yellowing display window and wooden shelves lined
with dusty photo albums, was the memory keeper of the whole town.Generations of townsfolk

had their first baby photos taken here, high school graduation portraits, and wedding group
pictures.Old neighbors would drop in just to flip through old albums and talk about the old
days.
Then came the unwelcome news. The old building was scheduled for a full safety repair to
fix its cracked walls and aging wires.Mrs.Nora had to move to a smaller shop down the street.
The thought of packing, carrying and rearranging over 5,000 photo albums, hundreds of fragile
negative boxes, her father's old camera and all the backdrop props was overwhelming.Hiring a
moving team would cost far more than she could afford. For weeks, she sat alone after closing,
wondering if she would have to lock the door forever.
She mentioned her trouble to a few regular customers-Mr.Davis,a retired principal
who came every month to print old photos, and a teenage girl who worked part-time on
weekends.Word spread slowly through the town.People talked about it at the grocery store,at
the bus stop, over the fence in their backyards.
Moving day arrived.Mrs.Nora stood in the middle of her shop, staring at rows of albums,
her throat tight with worry. She had expected to spend the whole day packing and carrying by
herself.Then she heard footsteps-first a pair,then a dozen,then a whole crowd.When she
looked up,her breath caught in her throat.

prize in the Urban Youth Creative Design Competition!
Our award-winning invention is a multifunctional walking stick.Inspired by my grandma,
who suffers great inconvenience while travelling outdoors,it is tailored for the elderly. It can be
folded compactly as a walking aid or expanded into a temporary seat for relaxation.Furthermore,
it is fumished with SOS alarm and positioning systems to guarantee senior citizens'security.
Curious to hear your thoughts on our design.Should any creative ideas occur to you,do feel
free to share them with me.I'm eagerly anticipating your insightful reply.

Para 1
A human chain of nearly 200 townsfolk lined up from the old studio to the new storefront.
Careful hands passed each photo album one after another along the line.As albums changed hands.
happy voices burst out now and then."It's my full-moon photo!"a boy exclaimed."This was my
wedding day!"a woman whispered."Look,my graduation portrait!"an old man murmured.Brief
joy flickered before they continued passing the albums. Each album traveled gently, carried by
wave after wave of hands.Watching the steady stream of passing albums,Mrs.Nora stood rooted
to the spot, her throat tight with unshed tears.

Para 2
When the last dusty photo album was placed on the new shelf,Mrs.Nora stepped forward,
hands trembling.Rows of photo albums stood neatly on the wooden shelves, just as they had in
the old shop. She glanced at the familiar faces on the album pages, feeling a warm wave of
gratitude wash over her.It suddenly dawned on her that her studio was never merely a place for
taking pictures. It was a treasure-house holding the precious shared memories of the whole town.
Before long, townsfolk began to drop by the new shop, flipping through albums and sharing
stories of the past.Though the location had changed, the warmth and memories remained
unchanged.Mrs.Nora smiled, knowing her little photo studio would keep recording people's life
stories for years to come.

M:Well,15 the soft robots from the Chinese robotics company Wisson Robotics really grabbed
my attention
W:15 What sets them apart?
M:15Compared with traditional robots, which are usually made of metal materials,15 the soft

robots adopt soft materials. They are more suitable for challenging environments and can
perform a wider variety of tasks in different industries and situations
W:Wow,that's truly remarkable.16I was blown away by Dreame Technology's window-cleaning
robots. They've managed to sell the product in over 100 countries and regions.
M:That's quite an achievement.

M:17If you are interested in investing in startups, this class is perfectly designed for you.I'm
Jeffrey Bussgang, who has been giving this class to college students for over a decade.Today
I'm going to share with you two stories.
Songe LaRon and Dave Salvant found themselves drawn to business, and the lack of change in
the barbershop experience caught their attention.18 So they began the building of Squire,
originally a customer-facing app.To spread the word about it and get immediate feedback, they set
up a pop-up barbershop. They discovered that the app effectively solved the issues they'd
experienced as customers but it failed to satisfy barbers'needs. So they decided to shift from
targeting end consumers to targeting barbershop owners, and purchased a barbershop to learn how
to adapt Squire.Salvant called this a"bet-the-company"move because they used over half their
funds. The risk paid off. They learned the challenges of running a barbershop.
1920Another story is about Tanya Menendez, who studied Economic Sociology in college.
After working in law,she decided to make a change after graduation. She first joined a leather
goods company. After working there for a year,20she noticed it was difficult to find American
factories that could make leather goods. To solve this problem,Menendez created Maker's Row,
an online platform that connects American factories with designers.
