Swim at a safe dep, walk carefully around the pool. Use a float or wear ARM bans. Do not swim in pants, lakes or rivers without adult permission. Do not swim alone at the beach. Always wear a life jacket if you are on a boat. Bb, bb, what your step? Sit down. Please. please get down. No standing in the bus. It's very dangers that's for safety. Sit bus OK. Who have? And to the road, to the bus, you see . a crushed that's very distract the . driver. I'm sorry. Thank you about . demotic s because I was crush. That's very dangerous. Keep those papers at your backpack. I do my book. 这是大家一起来。What are . you doing? No choice. A lot in . the bus. okay? OK put them away. No . toys out. What are . you doing eating in the bus? You know. food about IT here OK. 我也在儿童OK . banana way。Never brain food ever again. The food is not allowed in the bus. But like my hair, why you do that? That's so disrespectful. Because i'm good. Never do that. You always have to be respectful . to the driver. OK now, you know, never be disrespectful. Please put everything in your backpack now. could wear about your eyes. OK where here and take a step. Be careful. Are you . forgotten this? what? Never forget your belongs. what? You left your back, cat. Library rules, get quiet in library, be quiet, put back books, sorry, late lineup, follow rules. So english is a stress timed language. What is a stress timed language here you ask IT means that the language follows a very particular random. So we have certain words that are given more emphasis, more stress than, oh, so you end up listening to something like, and this is why sometimes when you're listening to native speakers or watching your favorite T, V shows, you understand some words more than others. This is because some words are emphasized more to fit the rythm, and the other words in between. Those stressed, emphasized words gets set very quickly and very weekly as well. So the sounds also change to make IT quicker for us to say them. And we do this because IT needs to fit a particular rhythm. Let me show you an example. I scoot over here so the space we have, mice eat cheese. Stress, stress, stress, nothing changes. But now listen to this. The mice eat the cheese. The mice eat the cheese. Notice that i'm not saying eat cheese. Not every single word distressed. I'm only focusing on the more important words and the, and the good weakened. Now this one, the mice are eating the cheese. The mice are eating the cheese. I'm not saying the mice are eating the cheese. I'm not stressing every possible in english. That's because we need to give more priority to certain celebrity. In those important words, everything else gets weakened. So notice that the mice are eating, the mice are eating, uh, IT gets weakened. Remember before I said that some was change to make them faster to say, and this is a perfect example of that. So how do you know which words in english to stress? Why do we say my strong? But are becomes, uh, and the becomes the, why do these become weak? But this was become strong? Well, that's because we can divide the language into two categories. We can divide the language into content words and function words. Some people also call these structure words, just in case you see IT in other videos or with your teacher or in a text book. The words are important words that Carry content. They Carry meaning. Your structure or function words are the little words that we use for grammatical structure, so content words are names, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, negative oxy verbs and model verbs, and question words like who, what, why, when ETC. All of these have strong forms, and they will be stressed in a sentence. Function words include articles, pro pro, ono s, conjunction and model verbs, and auxiliary ary verbs in the affirmative form. So when they negative, they usually stressed, but when they are not, when they're not negative, when they're positive, we can pronounce them in a weaker and quicker way. So the interesting thing about structure words is that they have two forms, a strong form and a weak form. The strong form is one that you may use for emphasis, you may also use IT for contrast, or you may use IT when the word is in isolation. The weak form is used in sentences, so it's quicker and easier to say. So if we take the verb are from the verB2Be, is the strong form. But, uh, is the week for? Are you ready? Are you ready? Notice the difference here. I am really emphasizing IT. Are you ready? Are you going? But here, are you ready? Are you going? It's much quicker and IT sounds much more natural. So now I want you to read some sentences and practice your you can practice the sounds that you've learned today as well as the sentence stress that you've just learned. Now here's the first sentence. I live in the north of italy. I live in the north of italy, so notice on the stressed words, your national goes up. I live in the north of italy. And then he goes back down at the end, because we are finishing the sentence. Here's another one. Think about the stress here. I love going to the beach in summer. I love going to the beach in summer. I love going to the beach in summer. How about this one? The boss drove round and round the city. The bus drove round and round the city. So notice with, and i'm not saying round and round, but round and round. So is sometimes we don't just change the sounds to make the weaker. We can cut some sounds in the weak forms. So watch out for that. And the final one, can I have a small piece of cake? Can I have a small piece of cake? So can I not going to pronounce as the strong form? Can I have a small piece of cake? But can I have? Can I have a small piece of of cake? Can I have a small piece of cake?
