His first idea was a smart pen that could check spelling. He spent three months on it, but it did not work. He did not give up. He asked his science teacher for help, read more books, and tried again and again. Once he even cut his finger with a knife, but he went on working after putting on a bandage.
Last year, his hard work paid off. He invented a small chair that can be moved up and down. It is very useful for short and tall students in the classroom. His invention won a prize in a city competition.
When reporters asked him the secret of success, the boy smiled and said, "I just failed many more times than other people."

C What Is Quantum Computing?
You may have heard of quantum computing in the news. It is one of the hottest technologies today. But what is it, and how is it different from the computers we use every day?
Ordinary computers use bits. Each bit is either 0 or 1, like a switch that is on or off. They deal with one question at a time. Quantum computers are very different. They use quantum bits, or qubits. A qubit can be 0, 1, or both at the same time. This means a quantum computer can work on many problems at once.
This superpower may help us in many fields. It could test new medicine much faster, help planes save more fuel, and make the internet safer. However, quantum computers are still very new. They are huge machines and need to be kept extremely cold. They are not something you can put on your desk yet.
Scientists believe that in ten or twenty years, quantum computers will become smaller and cheaper. When that day comes, they may change our world just as the smartphone did.
63. What is a bit like according to Paragraph 2?
A. A small box. B. A switch that is on or off. C. A fast car. D. A bright light.
64. What can a qubit do that a bit cannot?
A. It can be 0, 1, or both at the same time. B. It can only be 0 all the time.
C. It can play music. D. It can print papers.
65. Why are quantum computers not put on desks yet?
A. They are too expensive to make. B. They are huge and need to be kept very cold.
C. They cannot solve any problems. D. They are too heavy to carry.
66. What is the passage mainly about?
A. How to buy a new computer. B. What quantum computing is and its future.
C. The history of the smartphone. D. Why old computers are better.
D Turning Old Plastic into New
Plastic is everywhere in our life, but it creates a big problem: it does not break down easily. Scientists have been working hard to find ways to reuse it.
Recently, a group of scientists developed a new way to recycle plastic bottles. In the past, old bottles were cleaned and cut into small pieces. Then the pieces were melted down and made into new products. But this way made the plastic weaker each time, so it could only be recycled a few times.
The new method is different. The scientists use special chemicals to break the plastic down into very small parts. These parts can then be built up again into brand-new plastic, which is just as strong as the original. In this way, the same plastic can be recycled again and again without losing quality.
The scientists say this method is still expensive, but they believe the cost will go down as more factories use it. If it is widely used in the future, there will be far less plastic waste on our planet.
67. What is the problem with plastic according to Paragraph 1?
A. It is too colourful. B. It does not break down easily. C. It is too cheap. D. It smells bad.
68. Why could old plastic only be recycled a few times in the past?
A. Because it became weaker each time. B. Because it was too dirty.
C. Because factories had no machines. D. Because people liked new plastic.
69. How does the new method work?
A. It burns old plastic quickly. B. It breaks plastic down into small parts and rebuilds it.
C. It buries plastic under the ground. D. It throws plastic into the sea.
70. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. The new method will never be used.
B. The scientists have given up the research.
C. The new method may help reduce plastic waste in the future.
D. Plastic waste will disappear next year.
第二节 阅读表达(共5小题,每小题2分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容回答问题。
Technology has changed the way we study. Ten years ago, students had to go to the library to borrow books and look up information. Today, almost everything can be found online in seconds.
Take online classes as an example. When COVID-19 hit, schools closed, but learning did not stop. Students stayed at home and took classes on their computers or phones. Teachers showed the lessons on the screen, and students handed in their homework by sending photos. This way of learning was new to everyone, but it worked surprisingly well.
There are other helpful tools too. In the past, if you met a new word while reading, you had to look it up in a paper dictionary. Now you can just tap the word on the screen and the meaning appears at once. Some apps even read the book aloud to you, so you can learn while walking or doing housework.
However, technology is only a tool. It cannot take the place of hard work. If you spend all your time playing games online, the best app in the world will not help you get better grades.
71. What did students have to do to get information ten years ago?
________________________________________________
72. How did students take classes when schools closed during COVID-19?

73. How can you find the meaning of a new word quickly now?

74. Why does the writer say technology is only a tool?

75. What other technology helps you study now? Give one example and explain.

参考范文:
Dear Editor,
Of all the inventions, I like the ballpoint pen best. It was invented by a Hungarian reporter in the 1930s. Before that, people had to use ink pens, which often made a mess on the paper. The ballpoint pen is cheap and can be used almost anywhere. It is widely produced around the world, and billions of them are sold every year. It has changed our life in a quiet but powerful way. Without pens, we could not take notes so conveniently at school or at work. I think small inventions sometimes make the biggest difference.
