One teen boy waved at me and asked if I’d like to have a try. I hesitated, my fear of heights holding me back, but his encouragement and the excited cheers of the other teens gave me a burst of courage. “You’ve got this, Mrs. K! It’s easy!” the boy shouted with a grin. With shaking hands but a determined heart, I climbed up the mountainside to the zip line platform. The camp leader secured my harness and gave me a reassuring nod. The teens cheered as I took a deep breath, closed my eyes for a moment, and stepped forward.
Once I stepped onto the platform and attached the clip (滑索夹) to the zip line, I suddenly found myself flying through the air. The rush of wind against my face and the breathtaking view of the canyon below filled me with exhilaration and joy. I let out a laugh, realizing that I was no longer afraid but completely free. As I landed on the other side, the teens erupted into applause, running toward me with high-fives and hugs. In that moment, I understood the power of stepping out of my comfort zone. These teens had not only brought new purpose to my life but had also reminded me that it’s never too late to face your fears and embrace life’s adventures.

【原文】W: I spent the evening marking your exam papers. All of you did a great job. Now turn to page three. Read the story first, and then I will ask someone to answer a question.
M: Sorry, Mrs. Smith. I left my book at home.
2.
【原文】W: I’ve only got ten minutes before my favorite sports game starts. The next bus will arrive here in twenty minutes. Let’s call a taxi.
M: Why not ride a shared bike instead? It’s much faster during rush hour.
3.
【原文】M: Kate, how was your holiday?
W: Terrific. My husband and I had a lot of fun. But look, a mountain of paperwork is waiting for me.
M: Ha-ha. What is this? It’s beautiful.
W: Sophia’s wedding invitation. She sent the invitations out to each of us this morning. Didn’t you receive yours?
4.
【原文】M: Are you up for a movie this weekend?
W: Er...Long lines, packed theaters, and the limited seat choices...I’d rather go cycling or hiking on weekends.
M: Okay, I will phone Cindy. She is free.
5.
【原文】W: The weather has been so unpredictable lately, hasn’t it?
M: Yes! Yesterday there were showers, but today it’s bright and sunny. Who knows — maybe it will snow tomorrow?
W: It’s really difficult to plan anything in this kind of weather.
6.~7.
【原文】W: You finally arrived! What took you so long?
M: I got to the airport on time. But then the plane was delayed for almost two hours. I don’t know what happened.
W: That’s too bad. Have you had breakfast yet?
M: No. The meal served on the plane was awful.
W: There’s a cafe called SkyBites downstairs that serves fresh desserts and coffee. Let’s go there later.
M: OK. I need to discuss some work issues with Mr. Stern after the meal. But first, let’s go to the baggage claim area on the first floor.
W: Sure.
8.~ 9.
【原文】M: I just baked masses of cookies! It’s time to put them into this cookie jar.
W: Actually, you’d better use an airtight food storage container instead. It’ll keep the cookies fresh for a longer time. I’m not into cookies, but my mom often bakes cookies for my brother.
M: Really? I always thought cookie jars were the best choice.
W: Not really. Cookie jars aren’t airtight, so the cookies will go soft rapidly. An airtight container can help them stay crispy and delicious.
M: Good point! I bought some of these containers last month. They should be on top of the cupboard.
10.~12.
【原文】M: Hey, Emma! My sister Jenny just moved into her new house. I was thinking of getting her some indoor plants as a housewarming gift. But I don’t know much about them.
W: That’s a great idea! How about a lucky bamboo? It is often seen to bring luck to the household. She can place it in the living room.
M: That sounds perfect!
W: According to Chinese traditions, the significance of the lucky bamboo is tied to how many sticks it has. For example, two sticks represent love, five sticks represent harmony and eight sticks represent growth.
M: Nice! What about something for her study room?
W: A Chinese money plant would be great. It only needs watering weekly. I placed one in my bedroom and it is growing well. The golden pothos is also a good choice.
M: Thanks, Emma!
13.~16.
【原文】W: Carl, my sister recommended a local restaurant. Let’s go there tonight.
M: Is that the one the hotel receptionists just talked about?
W: No, not that one. It’s a bit far from our hotel. Let me check a map.
M: Oh, sorry. I just got an email from my manager. He said there would be a staff meeting scheduled for this evening. I’m afraid we can’t try that restaurant.
W: What? But we’re in Mexico now! It’s at least a four-hour flight to Los Angeles. How can you attend the meeting?
M: Take it easy. With advanced technology, we can have online meetings anywhere now. In the past, I had to wait for a fax or a letter to get the information. If I needed to sign a contract with a client who was far away, I had to go there in person. But nowadays, a simple video call can solve all issues.
W: But sometimes, that convenience comes at a cost. Right now, it feels like our vacation time is being consumed by work. This is our first trip since we got married in Cairo.
M: I’m really sorry about that. I promise it will be over soon and then we can enjoy our time together.
17.~20.

A devastating earthquake recently struck Morocco, killing at least 2,900 people and leaving more than 5,600 injured. With a magnitude of 6.8, this was the strongest earthquake to hit the nation’s center in more than a century. Next, the independent film Flow won the Best Animated Feature Film at the 2025 Oscars, securing the first Academy Award for Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis. It is the first time a film from Latvia has ever been nominated, so it really means a lot. The movie can be seen on a free and open-source software platform called Blender and has no dialogue. I have been studying the French language for three years. This field of study has been the hardest but most precious of my life. I would put it above the study of writing simply because I started writing as a 6-year-old boy under my mother’s guidance. I always “felt” I could write. I did not always “feel” I could study a foreign language effectively.
But here I am, right now, in a French hotel. I spoke French at the border, when I checked in and when I went to get lunch. I fail to speak with fluency. I mishear words. I can’t really use complicated grammar. But my words are perfectly understandable and serve their purpose. I feel, as I always do, like I am lost in the dark, but with each misstep, I find my way more clearly. I didn’t feel it when reading French novels; I didn’t feel it at school. I just felt it when I first arrived in Paris.
I’m emphasizing feelings because, when studying, they are as important as any reality. The fear of making mistakes feeds the hopeless and makes learners quit. It is not the study of language that is hard. It is the feelings of who you are at the present level and pessimistic belief of who you will always be that make it hard. The transformation to turn struggles into growth is what truly makes learning a life-changing journey.
Maybe one day, someone will say something to me that I do not understand, and at that moment, I may feel a bit discouraged. But now, I feel a sense of excitement. These moments of confidence and motivation are precious, for they remind me of how far I’ve come. They are not the norm(常态), though. The truth is, the lows are what I encounter more often. They are part of the learning process, part of the transformation that shapes us into better versions of ourselves. And yet, it is through these lows that I am constantly learning and growing.
24.Which of the following can describe the author’s French?
A.Elegant. B.Formal. C.Broken. D.Fluent.
25.How does the author generally feel when speaking French in Paris?
A.Awkward. B.Nervous. C.Confident. D.Hopeful.
26.What does the underlined word “They” refer to?
A.Discouraging moments.
B.Learning disabilities.
C.Encouraging moments.
D.Failures and frustrations.
27.Which statement might the author probably agree with?
A.Fail often and grow better.
B.Stay grounded and work for greatness.
C.Accept the lows and wait for the chance.
D.Be courageous to explore the unknown.

Dreams seem to occur at random, from everyday situations to unpredictable experiences. Now, a new study shows that our personal features as well as real-life events actually shape what we dream about, creating patterns in our subconsciousness (潜意识).
The study, published in Communications Psychology, analyzed thousands of dreams and waking experience reports collected over four years. The researchers used natural language processing tools to quantify the structure of dreams. They found that personal features like how often someone daydreams, their attitudes about dreams, and their sleep quality all influence dream content.
Researchers noticed that dreams don’t simply replay scenes from our daily lives. Instead, dreams seem to mix familiar places like workplaces, hospitals, and schools into new scenes that combine memories with imagination. The reported dreams tended to focus more on visual details, feature more characters, and make less logical sense. They were also less self-focused and less driven by conscious thinking.
These dream transformations weren’t the same for everyone. Participants who spent more time daydreaming during the day tended to have dreams that jumped rapidly from one scene to another. Those who placed more importance on dreams described them as more vivid and immersive. Sleep quality also played a role.
The team used three large language models, LLaMA 3, ChatGPT-4, and ChatGPT-4 Turbo, to evaluate dream reports on 16 different aspects, such as mood, strangeness and freedom of movement. “By combining large-scale data with computational methods, we were able to discover patterns in dream contents that were previously difficult to find,” Elce said. “This opens new possibilities for studying consciousness, memory, and mental health in a better way.”
28.How did the researchers conduct the study?
A.Data analysis. B.Sleep observation. C.Personal interview. D.Life event tracking.
29.Which of the following best describes the nature of the dream?
A.Creative. B.Predictable. C.Realistic. D.Repetitive.
30.What is the main advantage of the language models?
A.Increasing the number of dream features. B.Improving the accuracy of human brains.
C.Simplifying more personal dream reports. D.Identifying the patterns of various dreams.
31.Which of the following can be a suitable title for the text?
A.To Control Dreams, Control Your Day. B.Better Sleep Creates Better Dreaming.
C.AI Now Fully Understands Our Dreams. D.Dreams Are the Mind’s Hidden Patterns.
D
We rarely realize how much medical research depends on animals. However, live animals were used in 2.64 million scientific procedures in the UK in 2024, many of them painful and many of them fatal (致命的). But the government’s new strategy to phase out animal testing suggests that in the near future, emerging technologies can largely replace the use of animals in scientific research.
The UK has already taken steps to regulate their use in research. This is welcome, but there are still many widespread practices — such as giving mice tumors to study cancer — which most people would consider acceptable, despite their obvious cruelty. Yet, our human sympathy has a limit. The government will succeed only if it can convince scientists and the public that these trusted experimental methods can be replaced with something as good or better.
Organ-on-a-chip systems are already in use, which use lab-grown cells arranged into a mini network that can simulate (模仿) complex body systems. And machine learning systems are skilled at predicting potential toxic effects from medicines. These approaches won’t always provide perfect insight into how a given treatment might work for humans, but of course neither do animal tests.
This is an opportunity for both scientific and economic progress. Animal testing isn’t just cruel, it is expensive and time-consuming. But more importantly, there is an urgency to free these animals. Previous governments greatly reduced the number of animals favored by humans such as dogs and horses in experiments. Yet, 95% of lab animals in the UK are mice, birds or fish. Do they not deserve the same consideration?
32.What’s the meaning of the underlined words “phase out” in paragraph 1?
A.Expand. B.Continue. C.Examine. D.Stop.
33.What does the research of mice tumors suggest?
A.Challenges in fully replacing animal testing. B.Common practices in the past scientific work.
C.A desperate need to stop cruel experiments. D.Public awareness of animal suffering issues.
34.What does paragraph three mainly talk about?
A.Machine learning outperforms animal testing. B.Alternatives to animal testing are available.
C.Chip systems are less reliable than animal tests. D.Organ-on-a-chip systems are widely adopted.
35.What is the author’s attitude toward ending animal testing?
A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Unconcerned. D.Confused.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The Prison of Mask
People in the public eye are often heavily judged, and the comments can be cruel. We may not have people commenting on our daily choices in People magazine, but we absolutely have the “invisible audiences” that heavily influence our decisions. 36 It imprisons our true selves, forcing us to trade honesty for approval.
Researchers have proven that we often think too much of how much people actually notice us. 37 Because of this, we constantly edit our lives for an audience that isn’t even watching even though we aren’t famous superstars.
But who would you be if no one was watching? Carl Jung, one of the founding fathers of modern psychology, spoke about the “persona”, which is the metaphorical (比喻的) mask we all wear to meet the world. We all have them: the masks of the “successful businessman” or the “nice mom.” 38 However, if we wear these masks for too long, the true face underneath begins to disappear.
There is a severe cost to living a false life. It is called the “regret argument”. Bonnie Ware, a care nurse, recorded the top regrets of the dying. “I wish I had had the courage to live a life true to myself, not a life others expected of me.” When our lives come to an end, the fear of judgment disappears. 39 As the Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu said, “Care about what other people think, and you will always be their prisoner.” 40 Take off the mask. The only person who truly needs to approve of your life is you.
A.Thus, to live a true life, we have to stop.
B.However, the pain of self-regret remains.
C.We feel as if eyes are following us everywhere.
D.Developing a social mask is necessary for changes.
E.It makes us avoid wearing bold colors or speaking our minds.
F.They are entirely in our heads, but the prison they create is real.
G.Without them, fitting into society would be nearly impossible.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At sixty-five, I longed for a new purpose. One Sunday, our priest (牧师) suggested I volunteer with the youth department. After convincing my husband, we joined the Sunday school youth Bible class and evening events. It was a time filled with silly games, loud music and the Bible study.
Little did I know how much this generation gap would change me. When I took on the challenge of mentoring teenagers, some of whom lived in difficult home situations, I never expected I’d learn something from them. I watched teens learn to care about the homeless and the needy, and I realized they willingly made a difference to someone else’s life.
When our priest asked if I’d like to be a leader at the annual summer-camp trip, I jumped at the chance. As I took the first step up into the waiting bus, one of the boys raised his hand. “Here, Mrs. K. Let me help you. I saved a seat for you in the front. It will be easier for you to get out.” His big smile softened my heart. I just said, “Thank you.”
Four hours later, we arrived at our destination. I found myself gasping for breath as I trudged up a long hill to the girls’ dorm. Then we prepared for the upcoming drama together. Meanwhile, we had talks about their hopes and dreams, fears and choices. I provided the listening ear, and an arm around a shoulder. I became their cheerleader when they needed it.
The next morning the youth had free time and signed up for the zip line (滑索) over a deep canyon. I watched with fascination as our teens ascended a mountainside to zipline across a canyon. I didn’t share with them how terrified I am of heights. One of the camp leaders helped the last teen and then announced, “Any of you leaders who want to zip can get prepared now.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

One teen boy waved at me and asked if I’d like to have a try.
