61.Dear Chris,
I’m writing to share with you the colorful sports activities held in our school recently, which have greatly promoted sports culture on campus.
To inspire us students, our school invited the famous volleyball player Li Yingying to communicate with us. As a player who has won numerous honors with strong will and team spirit, she has set a wonderful example for all of us.
As for me, I’m fond of playing basketball, which I take part in regularly after school. Not only does it strengthen my body, but it also teaches me how to cooperate with others and face difficulties bravely, making me more confident in my daily life. I strongly advocate that every student should take an active part in sports. We can stay healthy and energetic.
Yours,
Li Jin

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be, but when you 16 eyes on them, you know at that 17 moment they will affect your life in some 18 way.
And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful and unfair 19 , but on reflection you find that without overcoming those 20 you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart.
Everything happens for a 21 . Nothing happens 22 or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and complete stupidity all occur to test the 23 of your soul. Without these small tests, 24 they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but 25 and pointless. The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to 26 who you are and who you become.
Even the 27 experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant (伤心的) and important ones. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, 28 them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being 29 when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back 30 , not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.
Make every day 31 . Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and 32 listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make your life 33 you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it with 34 no regrets.
Most importantly, if you LOVE someone, tell him or her, for you never know what tomorrow may have 35 . And learn a lesson in life each day that you live.
That’s the story of life.
16.A.base B.spend C.lock D.exchange
17.A.Very B.just C.only D.much

20.A.qualities B.virtues C.motivations D.obstacles
21.A.reason B.excuse C.incident D.complex
22.A.in principle B.on purpose C.by accident D.without hesitation
23.A.challenge B.condition C.limits D.maximum
24.A.whichever B.whenever C.wherever D.whatever
25.A.passionate B.dull C.active D.fragile
26.A.crash B.create C.crack D.criticize

As an overseas student (留学生), you may find it difficult to make friends in a new country. Being alone without your family, you will probably feel homesick and a little uncomfortable in a new culture. Here are some suggestions to help you make friends.
Firstly, it’s a good idea to ring your family and friends at home and tell them about your new life. Talk to your teachers and other overseas students. Share your problems and feelings and you will soon feel a little better.
Secondly, it is very important to attend your classes and do your homework. The more you learn, the more confident you will become. If you are learning a new language, you will learn quickly at the start, but then more slowly. Be patient with yourself, because all learning takes time.
Thirdly, you should join a club at your school or college. There are many to choose from — sports groups, movie groups, music groups. Remember that every time you join in, you are helping yourself make new friends.
Finally, to make friends you really ought to learn about the new culture. As you understand more about how people around you live and think, you will find it easier to make friends. Ask questions and be interested. Some of these friends will probably be your friends for life.
In a word, living in a new country and making friends is a valuable experience. Face your loneliness, then study hard and try to join a club and understand the culture. You will probably make life-long friends.
36.How many suggestions does the writer make?

D.Try to learn about a new culture when you are abroad.
38.The word “homesick” in Paragraph 1 probably means ________.
A.feeling happy at home B.missing home

A.study hard B.call your friends
C.keep your loneliness a secret D.join a sports group
40.What is the passage mainly about?
A.How to make friends in a new country. B.How to learn a new language in a new country.
C.How to join a school club in a new country. D.How to understand the culture in a new country.

At dinnertime, if I’m anywhere near my favourite restaurant, there’s not a chance you can talk me into going somewhere else — I want to eat at China Fun. Actually, I have been eating at this restaurant for 17 years.
Don’t get me wrong, trying new things is great, and I love exploring. But the pressure to always keep trying new things ignores the satisfaction of finding our loves and keeping on loving them. That’s why I dislike pop-up restaurants. I’d much rather invest my time and money in a place that will still be here next month, working my way through the menu to find my favourite dishes, and figuring out which is the best table. In a chaotic world, being a regular makes me feel that there are always places where things stay the same.
In my mental map of the city, I mark all my favourites — cute bookshops, hidden gardens, and the hotdog stand that’s open only at weekends. To be a regular is to let a place become a character in your life. The act of returning builds connection, and a sense of being at home as you settle in and share a nod with the waiter before he asks if you’ll be having the usual.
Some things just get better the more you do them. While relaxing weekends offer the promise of finding country paths for a wander, I would prefer revisiting a beloved walking route as the seasons turn, noticing the subtle (微妙的) changes in the same place. I’ve walked along the Thames a hundred times, but the banks look different each time as the tides move to reveal or conceal (隐藏). It feels like spending time with a friend. The river is alive, and each time we meet, we grow closer.
I discovered a little local café recently. After several visits, Kirsty, the resident café cat, has finally started acknowledging my presence. The other repeat customers have also started nodding at me. They were here first and this is their café. Now they seem to be saying, “Have a seat, stay a while, and come back soon.”
41.What does the author’s restaurant preference show?
A.He is a creature of habit. B.He is strictly self - disciplined.
C.He loves exploring new things. D.He favours Asian cuisine most.
42.What does the underlined word “character” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Reward. B.Souvenir. C.Symbol. D.Companion.
43.How does the author find the walking route along the Thames?
A.Crowded but comforting. B.Familiar but refreshing. C.Winding but approachable. D.Exhausting but adventurous.
44.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The café only welcomes regular local visitors.
B.The author feels accepted as a regular in the café.
C.Kirsty the cat is unfriendly to new customers.
D.The café is too small to hold more people.
45.What message does this text mainly convey?
A.Satisfaction exists in the present. B.Shared experiences build bonds.
C.Possibilities hide in the unknown. D.Repeat visits deepen appreciation.
C
Imagine a world without English majors. In the last decade, the study of English and history in college has fallen by a third. According to a recent story in The New Yorker, “The End of the English Major”, this decline is largely a result of economic factors: which departments get funded or what students earn after graduation, etc. Fields once wide open to English majors, such as teaching, academia, publishing, the arts, the media have collapsed or become less desirable. Facing huge academic debt and an uncertain job market, students may find majors like communication arts and digital storytelling more realistic.
And yet another important and discouraging part of the story is that the study of English itself may have lost its allure (吸引力), even among kids who enjoy reading. They are learning to hate the subject well before college. Both in terms of what kids are assigned and how they are instructed to read it, English class in middle and high school — now renamed as language arts, or language and literature-is often a suffering. It’s as if once schools teach kids how to read, they devote the remainder of their education to making them dread doing so.
A typical high school assignment now involves painstakingly marking up text with colored pencils in search of “literary devices”-red for imagery and diction, yellow for tone or mood, etc. Students are instructed to read even popular fiction at an extremely slow pace in the service of close-reading in unison They’re warned not to skip ahead. No one is supposed to feel excited!
When I was in public high school in the olden 80s, we read “The Red Badge of Courage” and “The Scarlet Letter,” with multiple forays (首次尝试) into Shakespeare. We were assigned Faulkner, Joyce, Conrad and Henry James, authors whose work opened my mind and tested my abilities of comprehension and interpretation.
But if anyone had suggested that I be offended by a nearly all-male reading list, I would have been hurt. Couldn’t girls read books by men just as well as boys could? At the same time, my teacher’s expectation that I could make sense of “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man”, felt like a vote of confidence. Students were encouraged not to avoid or attack these books but to learn from them.
46.Which of the following is NOT one of the reasons for the decline of English major?
A.Dim job prospect. B.High education debt.
C.Unrestricted study materials. D.Undesirable study approach.
47.The underlined word “dread” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to______.
A.avoid B.fear C.ignore D.regret
48.What do we know about current English class from Paragraph 2 and 3?
A.Current teaching mode is so intense that kids may feel frightened.
B.Current teaching mode ignores the importance of reading skills.
C.Current teaching mode put little emphasis on the value of reading.
D.Current teaching mode discourage kids from reading out of interest.
49.Which of the following statements will the author mostly agree with?
A.English major is likely to disappear in the not-so-distant future.
B.Students should be encouraged to learn from classic literary works.
C.Students should be taught to read slowly in search of literary devices.
D.Females will feel disrespected if given nearly all-male books to read.
50.What is the author’s main purpose of writing this article?
A.To explain the decline of English major.
B.To criticize the current education system.
C.To introduce her own reading experience.
D.To give suggestions on the existing education mode.
D
Smartphones are our constant companions. For many of us, their glowing screens are a ubiquitous (十分普遍的) presence, drawing us in with endless distractions. They are in our hands as soon as we wake, and command our attention until the final moments before we fall asleep.
Steve Jobs would not approve.
In 2007, Jobs took the stage and introduced the world to the iPhone. If you watch the full speech, you will be surprised by how he imagined our relationship should be with this iconic (标志性的) invention. This vision is so different from the way most of us use these devices now.
In his remarks, Jobs spent an extended amount of time demonstrating how users could utilize (应用) its touch screen before detailing the many ways Apple engineers had improved the age-old process of making phone calls. “It’s the best iPod we’ve ever made,” Jobs exclaimed at one point. “The killer app is making calls,” he later added. Both lines drew thunderous applause.
The presentation confirms that Jobs imagined a simpler iPhone experience than the one we actually have more than a decade later. For example, there was no App Store when the iPhone was first introduced, and this was by design. Jobs was convinced that the phone’s carefully-designed native features were enough. He did not seek to completely change the rhythm of users’ daily lives. He simply wanted to take experiences we had already found important — listening to music, placing calls, generating directions — and make them better.
The minimalist (简约主义者) vision for the iPhone Jobs offered in 2007 is unrecognizable today — and that is a shame.
Under what I call the “constant companion model,” we now see our smartphones as always-on portal (通道) to information. We have become so used to it over the past decade that it is easy to forget the novelty (新奇) of the device. It seems increasingly clear to me that Jobs probably got it right from the very beginning: Many of us would be better-off returning to his original minimalist vision for our phones.
Practically speaking, to be a minimalist smartphone user means only using your device for a small number of features that do things of value to you. Otherwise, you simply put it away outside of these activities. This approach removes this gadget (小玩意) from the position of a constant companion down to a luxury object, such as a fancy bike, that gives you great pleasure when you use it but does not dominate your entire day.
Early in his 2007 keynote jobs said, “Today, Apple is going to reinvent the phone.” What he didn’t add, however, was the follow-up promise: “Tomorrow, we’re going to reinvent your life.” The smartphone is fantastic, but it was never meant to be the foundation for a new form of existence. If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get more out of both your phone and your life.
51.According to Steve Jobs, what was the main selling point of Apple’s first iPhone?
A.It allowed its users to have access to the Internet.
B.It was actually an iPod that could make phone calls.
C.It was installed with applications by third-party developers.
D.It could fulfill people’s desire to multitask in their daily lives.
52.According to the article, a minimalist smartphone user is likely to ________.
A.expect to reinvent his life with the device
B.buy the latest model of iPhone and see it as a luxury
C.spend more time working than playing with his device
D.remove the unnecessary applications from the device
53.The underlined word “it” in the 7th paragraph probably refers to ________.
A.the native features of smartphones B.the information on the Internet
C.the novelty of the device D.the constant companion model
54.What can be inferred from the passage?
A.The minimalism of iPhone helps users bring out the best of the device.
B.Jobs expected iPhone to be the foundation for a new form of existence.
C.Smartphone users have changed their life to enjoy pleasant experiences.
D.The invention of App Store has made smartphones luxury objects.
55.The author’s purpose in writing the article was to ________.
A.tell readers why Steve Job created the iPhone
B.remind readers not to be addicted to their smartphones
C.show readers that smartphones can greatly change their lives
D.encourage readers to block Internet access on their smartphones

Last August I took part in the Summer Camp of the General Final Contest of the 16th National Creative English Contest held in Beijing. It was one of the most meaningful thing I did in my Senior 2 summer vacation.
The summer camp lasted from August 20 to August 27. During the opening ceremony, we each wrote a postcard to motivate ourselves. On my card I wrote, “Brace yourself and show your best,” These words supported me throughout every obstacle I experienced.
August 24 witnessed the important debate contest that many of us feared. The night before, my teammates and I sat in a circle, focusing our minds on the debate topic, “Does competition among friends adversely influence their friendships?”
All of us were busy searching for examples of Olympic athletes or other real-life people to back up our arguments. Time seemed to disappear faster than usual while we were working on this project.
Finally, the big day arrived. Only one minute before we went on the stage, an inner voice entered my mind, saying, “Brace yourself and show your best.” Preparing the details in my head allowed me to feel ready for the challenge. With my teammates backing me up, I drew myself up to full height and expressed my point of view as best as I could.
The results of the contest convinced me that my motto paid off—I entered the top 50, and two of my teammates placed in the top 10 due to their excellent performance. And through the strength of our teamwork, my friends and I became closer than ever. The more competition among friends, the firmer our friendship will be.
From those eight days, it isn’t the prize I valued the most but the breakthrough and the pure friendship I gained. It would be better to change my motor into “Brace yourself and fight together.” I firmly hold the belief that this period of time will live in my memory forever and will shine even brighter when I look back.
56.What did the team do in the Summer Camp? (no more than 10 words)
57.What did they prepare to support their argument? (no more than 10 words)

【答案】41.A 42.D 43.B 44.B 45.D

根据第三段中“To be a regular is to let a place become a character in your life.(成为熟客就是让一个地方成为你生活中的character)”及后文“The act of returning builds connection, and a sense of being at home as you settle in and share a nod with the waiter before he asks if you’ll be having the usual.(回头光顾能建立起一种联结,当你安顿下来,在服务员开口问你是否点老样子之前就对他点头致意时,便会生出一种在家的归属)”可知,常去的地方如同生活中的伙伴、陪伴者。
根据第四段中“While relaxing weekends offer the promise of finding country paths for a wander, I would prefer revisiting a beloved walking route as the seasons turn, noticing the subtle (微妙的) changes in the same place. I’ve walked along the Thames a hundred times, but the banks look different each time as the tides move to reveal or conceal (隐藏). It feels like spending time with a friend. (虽然悠闲的周末意味着可以去乡间小路漫步探险,但我更愿随着四季流转,重走那条心爱的小径,细察同一方天地间的微妙变迁。泰晤士河畔我已走过百遍,但随着潮涨潮落,每一次河岸的景致都不尽相同。这种感觉,宛如与挚友相伴)”可知,泰晤士河畔的路线虽熟悉,却因季节变化每次都有新鲜感。
44.细节理解题。根据最后一段中“The other repeat customers have also started nodding at me. They were here first and this is their café. Now they seem to be saying, “Have a seat, stay a while, and come back soon.”(其他的熟客也开始对我点头致意了。他们捷足先登,这里早已是他们的地盘。此刻,他们仿佛在说:“坐吧,歇会儿,常来啊。”)”可知,作者作为熟客感受到了接纳。
45.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第四段中的“Some things just get better the more you do them.(一些事物你接触越多就变得越美好。)”

【答案】46.C 47.B 48.D 49.B 50.A
根据第一段中“Fields once wide open to English majors, such as teaching, academia, publishing, the arts, the media have collapsed or become less desirable. Facing huge academic debt and an uncertain job market, students may find majors like communication arts and digital storytelling more realistic.(曾经向英语专业学生敞开的领域,如教学、学术界、出版业、艺术界、媒体界,已经崩溃或变得不那么令人向往。面对巨额的学业债务和不确定的就业市场,学生可能会发现像传播艺术和数字故事讲述这样的专业更现实。)”可知,英语专业衰退的原因包括黯淡的就业前景、高额的教育债务,而根据第二段“And yet another important and discouraging part of the story is that the study of English itself may have lost its allure (吸引力), even among kids who enjoy reading.(而这件事里另一个重要且令人沮丧的地方是:英语学习本身可能已经失去了吸引力,即便在那些喜欢阅读的孩子中间也是如此)”和第三段中“A typical high school assignment now involves painstakingly marking up text with colored pencils in search of “literary devices”-red for imagery and diction, yellow for tone or mood, etc. Students are instructed to read even popular fiction at an extremely slow pace in the service of close-reading in unison (完全一致地). They’re warned not to skip ahead.
根据第二段中“It’s as if once schools teach kids how to read, they devote the remainder of their education to making them dread doing so.(就好像一旦学校教孩子们如何阅读,他们就会把余下的教育都用来让他们dread这样做。)”以及第三段中“A typical high school assignment now involves painstakingly marking up text with colored pencils in search of “literary devices”-red for imagery and diction, yellow for tone or mood, etc. Students are instructed to read even popular fiction at an extremely slow pace in the service of close-reading in unison (完全一致地). They’re warned not to skip ahead.
根据第二段中“English class in middle and high school-now renamed as language arts, or language and literature-is often a suffering. It’s as if once schools teach kids how to read, they devote the remainder of their education to making them dread doing so.(中学和高中的英语课——现在改名为语言艺术或语言文学——往往是一种痛苦。就好像一旦学校教孩子们如何阅读,他们就会把余下的教育都用来让他们害怕这样做。)”以及第三段中“No one is supposed to feel excited!(根本不让学生从阅读里感受到兴奋!)”
根据倒数第二段中“We were assigned Faulkner, Joyce, Conrad and Henry James, authors whose work opened my mind and tested my abilities of comprehension and interpretation.(我们被分配了福克纳、乔伊斯、康拉德和亨利·詹姆斯的作品,这些作家的作品开阔了我的思维,考验了我的理解和诠释能力。)”以及最后一段中“Students were encouraged not to avoid or attack these books but to learn from them.(学生们被鼓励不要回避或攻击这些书,而是要从中学习。)”
根据第一段中“Imagine a world without English majors. In the last decade, the study of English and history in college has fallen by a third.(想象一个没有英语专业学生的世界。在过去的十年里,大学里的英语和历史专业学习人数下降了三分之一。)”可知,全文先介绍英语专业没落的现状与经济原因,再重点批判当下死板枯燥、扼杀兴趣的英语教学,对比自己当年优质的经典阅读课堂,核心是剖析并批判英语专业衰败背后的教育问题。故选A。
【答案】51.B 52.D 53.D 54.A 55.B
由第四段中的“In his remarks, Jobs spent an extended amount of time demonstrating how users could utilize (应用) its touch screen before detailing the many ways Apple engineers had improved the age-old process of making phone calls. “It’s the best iPod we’ve ever made,” Jobs exclaimed at one point. “The killer app is making calls,” he later added.
由第五段中的“The presentation confirms that Jobs imagined a simpler iPhone experience than the one we actually have more than a decade later. For example, there was no App Store when the iPhone was first introduced, and this was by design. (这次演讲证实了乔布斯想象的iPhone体验比我们十多年后实际拥有的体验更简单。例如,iPhone首次推出时没有应用程序商店,这是经过设计的)”,第六段“The minimalist (简约主义者) vision for the iPhone Jobs offered in 2007 is unrecognizable today — and that is a shame. (2007年乔布斯提供的极简主义iPhone的愿景如今已无法辨认,这是一种耻辱)”和倒数第二段中的“Practically speaking, to be a minimalist smartphone user means only using your device for a small number of features that do things of value to you. (实际上,要成为一个极简智能手机用户,就意味着只需将你的设备用于少数对你有价值的功能)”可知,2007年发布的iPhone是极简主义智能手机的代表,上面没有应用程序商店,只有少数功能,可得出极简主义智能手机用户很可能会从设备中删除不必要的应用程序。故选D项。
53.词句猜测题。由第七段中的“Under what I call the “constant companion model,” we now see our smartphones as always-on portal (通道) to information. We have become so used to it over the past decade that it is easy to forget the novelty (新奇) of the device. (在我所说的“固定伴侣模式”下,我们现在看到我们的智能手机总是在信息门户上。在过去的十年里,我们已经习惯了it,以至于很容易忘记它的新奇之处)”可知,it用于指代上文,此处it指代上文“the constant companion model”。故选D项。
54.推理判断题。由第五段中的“He simply wanted to take experiences we had already found important — listening to music, placing calls, generating directions — and make them better. (他只是想利用我们已经发现的重要经验——听音乐、打电话、指路——并使之更好)”,第七段中的“It seems increasingly clear to me that Jobs probably got it right from the very beginning: Many of us would be better-off returning to his original minimalist vision for our phones. (我似乎越来越清楚,乔布斯可能从一开始就做到了:我们中的许多人最好还是回到他最初对手机的极简主义设想)”和最后一段中的“If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get more out of both your phone and your life. (如果你将这项创新(智能手机)回归到原来的角色,你将从你的手机和生活中获得更多)”可知,作者赞成乔布斯利用最少功能、发挥设备最大价值的极简主义智能手机,认为如果智能手机回归到极简模式,用户能从手机和生活中获得更多,可得出iPhone的极简主义帮助用户发挥设备的最佳性能。故选A项。
由第七段中的“Many of us would be better-off returning to his original minimalist vision for our phones. (我们中的许多人最好还是回到他最初对手机的极简主义设想)”和最后一段中的“If you return this innovation to its original role, you will get more out of both your phone and your life. (如果你将这项创新(智能手机)回归到原来的角色,你将从你的手机和生活中获得更多)”可知,作者赞成极简主义智能手机,认为如果智能手机回归到极简模式,用户能从手机和生活中获得更多,作者意图就是提醒读者不要沉迷于智能手机,而是更多地回归到正常地生活中去。故选B项。

阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
58.What’s the meaning of the underlined words “Brace yourself”? (no more than 5 words)
59.What’s the topic of the passage? (no more than 10 words)
60.In your opinion, how do you keep friendship? (no more than 15 words)
56.The team took part in the debate competition.
57.The examples of Olympic athletes or other real-life people. 58.It means pull yourself together.
59.The breakthrough and the pure friendship I gained.
60.Friends respect and trust each other.

With my teammates backing me up, I drew myself up to full height and expressed my point of view as best as I could.(在脑海中准备好细节让我觉得自己已经为挑战做好了准备。 It means pull yourself together.
根据最后一段“From those eight days, it isn’t the prize I valued the most but the breakthrough and the pure friendship I gained. It would be better to change my motor into “Brace yourself and fight together.” I firmly hold the belief that this period of time will live in my memory forever and will shine even brighter when I look back.(在这8天里,我最看重的不是奖金,而是我获得的突破和纯洁的友谊。不如把我的口号改成“打起精神,一起战斗”我坚信,这段时间将永远活在我的记忆中,当我回想起来时,会更加明亮)”可知,本文的主题,是讲述了作者通过8天的夏令营,突破了自己并获得了纯洁的友谊。故回答:The breakthrough and the pure friendship I gained.

As for me, I’m fond of playing basketball, which I take part in regularly after school. Not only does it strengthen my body, but it also teaches me how to cooperate with others and face difficulties bravely, making me more confident in my daily life.
