高二24班周考试卷
1.【答案】B【原文】W: My brother’s family is coming to visit next week, and I planned to clean the entire house this weekend. But now, I’m feeling ill.
M: That’s unfortunate, but you can’t argue with your health.
W: You’re right. I’ll just have to take it easy before they arrive.
2.【答案】A
【原文】W: You and your wife are still so in love, even after 50 years. What are your tips?
M: The key is remembering that your relationship matters more than anything else. For example, making money is great, but why bother if you have no one to share it with?
3.【答案】C
【原文】M: Alice, can I borrow that library book you checked out?
W: Sure, John. But it’s due back pretty soon. Could you take it back to the library for me, once you’re done with it? I don’t want to get charged for being late.
M: No problem.
4.【答案】B
【原文】W: Are you glad you got a dog?
M: Definitely. I mean, I wish there weren’t always dog hair all over my house. But it’s not as bad, since I bought myself a cleaning robot. Plus, he needs long walks, which helps keep me active.
5.【答案】A
【原文】M: So, I understand you saw the accident. Can you tell me what happened?
W: The taxi was going much too fast as it approached the traffic lights. The light turned red, and the driver didn’t have time to stop before the bus pulled out.
【答案】6.A 7.B
【原文】M: It’s the perfect day for a movie. Shall we go after school?
W: I wish I could. But I promised I’d go to visit my grandmother. I’m going to take her to do her food shopping.
M: Oh, that doesn’t sound like much fun.
W: I don’t mind. When I was younger, I used to think it was boring. But now, I really love to be around her. She worked as a hospital nurse for most of her life, so she has some really interesting stories. And she tells me about my family. It’s really nice.
【答案】8.C 9.A
【原文】M: What do you want to do tonight? We really need to do something to treat ourselves after such a busy week!
W: I don’t know. I don’t have the energy for dancing or anything like that. We could go out for dinner.
M: Hmm... It’s probably too late to book a table. Why don’t we try that board game café in town? They have hundreds of board games to choose from and you can buy snacks and drinks while you play.
W: That sounds fun! But there aren’t many board games for two.
M: Hmm... maybe not. But we could ask Vicky and Mike to come with us. I’ll text them now.
W: That’s nice. They are good players.
【答案】10.C 11.B 12.B
【原文】W: Good morning! Ready for another day at school?
M: Not really! I was up late last night finishing my book report. I’m glad you’re here. Now, I don’t need to worry about missing our stop while sleeping here.
W: Ha-ha! Here. Check the news with me. That will keep you awake.
M: On Weibo? No thanks. I prefer the old-fashioned TV news.
W: Really? Why?
M: I just think it’s more balanced. It’s all too easy to get into an “information cocoon” online.
W: A “cocoon” isn’t that the little home a bug makes when it’s turning into a butterfly?
M: Exactly. Social media programs present you with information they think you’ll like. In terms of the news, that means you won’t often see stories that disagree with what you already believe.
W: Right, I see. And that’s why it’s called a “cocoon”, because it’s like hiding yourself away in a soft, comfortable place.
M: Exactly!
W: I see. That’s a good point!
【答案】13.C 14.C 15.A 16.B
【原文】W: Everything alright, Rob?
M: Oh… not really. I’m having a few friendship problems.
W: Do you want to talk about it?
M: Well, Matt and I have been best friends since we were five.
W: Wow That’s so much longer than I’ve known you guys. So, you’ve been friends for 25 years?
M: Yeah! We left home together and even went to the same college. He has always been there for me. But ever since he was laid off from his previous job three months ago, he has become so negative. It seems he has lost all his passion for things he ever loved.
W: Hmm… That’s terrible.
M: It’s really getting me down. My sister, Clara, says I should start avoiding him, but I’d feel awful about doing that.
W: No, you can’t do that. It’s hard to be around someone who is negative. But he’s your friend. You could take him into nature to help him get rid of his negative feelings. And you can hang around with other friends who make you happy sometimes.
M: Like you! Thanks, Jenny.

【原文】
Welcome to the theater club. I’m Teresa, your new club president, and I’m excited to announce that we have chosen our autumn show. We are going to perform Liam Pierce’s The New Sky! It’s a funny, heartwarming story of a group of theater-loving women who decide to perform an all-female version of William Shakespeare’s play, while all the men are away fighting in World War II. We’ll be looking for six girls to play the female parts, ranging from young women to old ladies. There are also a couple of male parts: Alexander Ford, the young stage manager, and Mr. White, the old theater owner who constantly makes trouble for our heroines on purpose! The original play was set in the U.S. , but our writers decided to move the action to Australia, so we could use our own accents. There are passages of Shakespeare throughout the play, for which we’ll use British accents. Tryouts are on Friday. You’ll be asked to read a scene from the play, as well as perform a short Shakespeare speech. You won’t need to sing at the tryouts, but please be aware that there is a small amount of singing required in the show. I hope to see you all there!

Dear Jane,
Sorry to hear about the challenges you’re facing. It’s completely understandable that time zone differences and the limitations of virtual communication can make it hard to build meaningful connections.
To begin with, to tackle the time zone issue, I suggest deciding on a fixed meeting time that works for everyone, even if it’s just once a week. Secondly, you could use shared tools like Google Docs for joint work, so that no one is left out due to timing. What’s more, as for virtual barriers, why not start meetings with a fun ice-breaker question?
These adjustments take time. I’m sure your group will gradually grow closer.
Yours,

【答案】范文:
Taking a deep breath, Eva and Adam stepped into the boardroom together. Facing the group of funders, Adam kicked off the presentation with solid data, his voice steady and confident. Just as the atmosphere became a bit dry, Eva smoothly took over, weaving the touching stories behind the old photographs into her speech. She noticed the funders leaning forward, their expressions softening as they connected with the faces in the pictures. Adam didn’t interrupt her this time; instead, he nodded encouragingly, clicking through the slides in perfect time with her words. For the first time, their different strengths weren’t clashing — they were working in harmony, blending cold facts with warm hearts.
As they walked out of the room, Joanna, their manager, was waiting for them with a bright smile. She announced excitedly that the foundation was so impressed by their combined approach that the funding was officially theirs. Eva and Adam looked at each other, a wave of relief and victory washing over them. Adam turned to Eva, his eyes twinkling, and joked that they had finally passed that media studies project from years ago. Eva laughed, realizing that her”school enemy” had turned into her best partner. She hadn’t just found a perfect job; she had found a friendship she once thought impossible, proving that even the strongest competitors could make the finest team.

Looking for good books to enjoy in your spare time? Here are some fun and educational reads from the University of Chicago Press. Many titles bring nature to life with clear science and strong visuals, along with insights from experts and major publications.
Mushroom Day by Alison Pouliot follows 24 hours in the lives of 24 different fungus (真菌). With beautiful illustrations by Stuart Patience, it is described as “a feast of fungal wonders” that brings together science and beauty. It is highly recommended by the Fungi Foundation.
Frog Day and Bird Day, written by Marty Crump and Mark E. Hauber, introduce various kinds of frogs and birds over a single day. Both books mix science with fun. Booklist calls the former “a scientific gem (瑰宝),” while New Scientist describes the latter as “delightful.”
You can also try Book Curses by Eleanor Baker, a funny collection of old warnings from libraries. And don’t miss Be Inspired, a drawing guide that teaches skills from Renaissance masters like Leonardo and Michelangelo.

Eleven students took the summer course taught by Brad Davis, a professor in the College of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia, on the practices of drawing outdoors. As a profession, landscape architects often bring to life their ideas of an outdoor space through computer pictures. The course gives these future landscape architects the tools to observe the details of a landscape and draw that scene by hand. “Students can end up producing better computer images with some hand instruction first because they know the rules, and they know how to recognize the key features of what they’re seeing,” Davis says.
The students gathered around Davis to watch him paint with watercolors. Step by step, Davis showed them how to apply thin coats of paint. Then he asked the students to paint by themselves. “You’re getting the smells and sounds, and the way the light changes. Color, depth, size, and shape all come into play as you translate the landscape onto paper,” the third-year graduate student Matthew Gauldin said of the landscape. “It helps you get more of the detail you’d miss if you were drawing from a picture. Out here, it’s alive.”
Nearly two weeks earlier, most of these students had never touched watercolor. Many had limited experience in drawing. Now they’re facing sunrise and better dealing with the challenge of its rapidly changing light.
“Before this course, I never imagined I could paint with watercolors, even at a basic level,” said JH Leigh, a fifth-year student. “In two weeks, I’ve gone from having no idea how to approach this to having a complete idea of how to do it. I’m proud to have mastered watercolors so quickly and created something beautiful.”
The experience continued well beyond their drawing boards each day. They enjoyed group dinners featuring homemade cakes and local beer, took bird-watching trips, went fishing at the beach, and took late-night drives to see mountain stars. Back on Driftwood Beach, as students packed up their drawing boards and gathered their paintings, they carried away more than drawing skills.
24.What is the purpose of Davis’s outdoor drawing course?
A.To meet students’ curiosity about nature. B.To encourage relaxation for art students.
C.To reduce students’ computer dependency. D.To build practical skills for landscape design.
25.What key advantage does the drawing process offer according to Gauldin?
A.Creative problem-solving. B.Free expression of feelings.
C.The hands-on learning chance. D.The sharper focus on artworks.
26.What does JH Leigh mainly point out about this course?
A.It requires a lot of practice. B.It brings a sense of achievement.
C.It focuses on scientific approaches. D.It supports personal learning styles.
27.What extra benefit did the students gain from the course?
A.Stronger teamwork abilities. B.Enriching shared experiences.
C.Useful outdoor survival skills. D.Inspiration for future artistic projects.

Many children try to make their parents proud. But in some families, a child’s success is always “on show”. Parents want praise from others, and the child may feel like a performer, not a person.
The term “peacock parenting” comes from the idea of being “as proud as a peacock”. Here it means a self-centered style of parenting. A peacock parent may show off a “perfect family” in public, yet criticise the child behind closed doors when the child fails to meet high expectations. Over time, the child may learn that love is conditional. They may hide their real feelings, stop exploring their own interests, and start to believe, “I am not worthy.”
Experts describe three common signs. The first is psychological control. When the child sets a boundary or feels upset, the parent may say, “You’re too sensitive,” and turn the blame back onto the child. This often creates a sense of guilt. The second is unpredictable mood swings. The parent can be warm one day and cold the next, making the child feel like they are “walking on eggshells”. In adulthood, this may lead to people-pleasing and weak boundaries. The third is role reversal. Some parents fail to provide proper care and attention, or even expect their child to look after them emotionally or physically. As a result, the child may grow up too fast and miss out on a normal childhood.
Healing takes time, but it is possible. The first step is to be kinder to yourself and reconnect with your own interests. Supportive friends, groups, or professional help can provide the care that was previously missing. Clear boundaries can also make a relationship safer, and if contact continues to cause harm, limiting contact may be necessary. After all, there are many places to find warmth, and not all of them are under a parent’s roof.
28. What is the purpose of paragraph 1?
A. To raise an issue. B. To describe a study.
C. To explain the causes. D. To offer the solutions.
29. What does “peacock parenting” in paragraph 2 mainly focus on?
A. Public approval. B. Unconditional love. C. Independent growth. D. Honest self-expression.
30. Which sign best matches “role reversal” in paragraph 3?
A. The parent praises the child in public. B. The child tries to win others’ approval.
C. The parent relies on the child for support. D. The child avoids setting any boundaries.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Distance ensures safety. B. Self-care is the final step.
C. Healing requires parental effort. D. Support exists beyond the family.
D
Many people often feel they don’t have enough time, even when they actually have more free hours. This is because when it comes to time, its quality is as important as its quantity. We often wish for an extra hour in the day, but even when we get it, many still feel time-pressed.
This feeling is called “time poverty”, which means having too many things to do and not enough time to do them. It’s more about how we feel than simply counting how many hours we have. Recent research shows that this feeling depends more on perceived shortages than actual ones. Constant interruptions, long to-do lists, and not being in control of one’s time can all worsen this feeling.
To understand this better, researchers have tried to find an “optimal” amount of free time. One study of over 35,000 Americans found that having 2 to 5 hours daily for enjoyable activities was linked to the greatest well-being. However, this optimal time is subjective. If people use their free time for hobbies or quality time with friends and family, the unusual sense of feeling worse due to “too much” free time disappears entirely.
A study in China with 100,000 people also had surprising results. Over half of those who felt time-poor actually had more than 1.8 hours of free time daily. On the other hand, more than a third with less free time did not feel time-poor. This clearly shows the difference between the amount of free time one has and how one feels about it. Further research revealed that high time pressure and fragmented (碎片化的) time made people feel more time-poor. In contrast, feeling deeply involved in activities made them feel richer in time.
Reducing time poverty requires both individual and societal changes, researchers say. On an individual level, experts suggest doing a “daily audit”. This means tracking your activities, how long they take, and how you feel afterward. This can help you understand how you spend your time, for example, on social media, and then make changes to use your time more wisely.
32.What can we learn about “time poverty” in paragraph 2?
A.It leads to poor time control.
B.It arises from too many tasks.
C.It is mainly a subjective sense of lack.
D.It is largely caused by limited free time.
33.What does the underlined word “optimal” mean in paragraph 3?
A.Exact. B.Extra. C.Average. D.Ideal.
34.Why does the author mention a study in China?
A.To offer further evidence.
B.To give a practical example.
C.To make detailed comparisons.
D.To draw a different conclusion.
35.What can “daily audit” help you do?
A.Manage your time reasonably.
B.Avoid social media completely.
C.Adjust emotional states regularly.
D.Promote societal changes gradually.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Trust helps relationships grow, but it doesn’t come equally easily to everyone. ___36___ Instead, it is shaped by our experiences, our personality, and the way we have been treated in the past. That’s why people may trust in different ways.
Trust sits at the heart of daily life. When you take a taxi, you trust the driver to get you home safely. When you pay a worker to fix something, you trust him to do the job well. Typically, at school or work, you trust people to keep promises and respect basic rules. ___37___ Without trust, many everyday activities would feel risky.
However, once trust is broken, rebuilding it can be hard. When we meet someone new, we naturally pay closer attention to the setting and the person’s behaviour. We carry earlier lessons with us, too: many of us were taught as children not to talk to strangers. ___38___ This protective instinct naturally carries over into our everyday social life.
___39___ Sometimes we get a “feeling” about whether someone is safe to rely on. Yet a first impression is not the same as a final judgement. If we’ve been burned before, we may question our ability to read people and situations. We may then hold back even when someone means well.
The good news is that trust can be developed. Start by knowing your values and setting clear boundaries. Take your time, communicate worries honestly, and let trust grow through small actions. ___40___ If emotional pain is deep, professional help may be needed.
A. The same goes for first impressions.
B. It is more than a dictionary meaning.
C. That habit can shape our first judgement of others.
D. People may respond very differently to the same event.
E. Over time, these steps can help build trust more steadily.
F. Consequently, it is easy to stay cautious until we see the full picture.
G. We even trust strangers when we travel to and from school or work.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文,
Eva started her new job at a small charity called “Caring for Carers.” While checking the shared campaign folder, a name caught her eye: Adam Turner.
Memories suddenly flooded back. Adam had been her major opponent at school — a boy who always carried a leather briefcase while everyone else had backpacks. He was extremely talented at maths, while Eva excelled in English and history. They once failed a group project because they spent all their time arguing, unable to combine his logic with her creativity.
When the office door opened, a tall, handsome man walked in. It was Adam. He smiled broadly, “You do remember! Conker!” he teased, using her old nickname. Eva glared, but Adam quickly turned professional. “The Simpson Foundation is offering funding. If we make a convincing speech next Friday, they’ll pay for the whole campaign.”
As they worked together, the old disagreement remained. Adam was buried in precise budgets, while Eva insisted on using “creative” ideas to move the funders. Eva complained that he was too obsessed with figures, while Adam responded that her ideas were too impractical. They seemed to be back in their school days, fighting over every detail.
However, as the deadline approached, their relationship began to shift. Eva made an effort to understand his financial tables, and Adam started to appreciate the emotional power of Eva’s storytelling. One afternoon, they discovered some old black-and-white photos of people the charity had helped. Eva suggested using these to tell real stories, and Adam’s eyes lit up. He realized he could back those stories with data to prove their impact.
The day of the presentation finally arrived, which was also the final day of Eva’s trial period. Standing outside the boardroom, Eva felt her heart pounding. This wasn’t just about the funding; it was about whether she and her old opponent could finally succeed as a team.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Taking a deep breath, Eva and Adam stepped into the boardroom together.

You could take a man in nature to help him get rid of his negative feelings, and you can hang around with other friends who make you happy . sometimes like you. Thanks, Jenny. Listen to the next question. Welcome to the theater club. I'm teressa your new club president, and i'm excited to announce that we have chosen our autumn show. We are going to perform leon pierces. The new sky is a fun, heart warming story of a group of theater loving women who decide to perform an all female version of William shakespeare play. While all of the men are away fighting in world war two, we'll be looking for six girls to play the female parts, ranging from Young women to old ladies. There are also a couple of male parts, Alexander forward, the Young stage manager, and mister White, the old theatre owner, who constantly makes trouble for our heroines on purpose. The original play was set in the us, but our writers decided to move the action to australia so we could use our own accents. There are passages of shakespeare throughout the play for which will use british accents. Trios are on friday. You'll be asked to read a scene from the play as well as perform a short shakespeare speech. You won't need to sing at the trial. Ts, but please be aware that there is a small amount of singing required in the show. I hope to see you all there. Welcome to the theater club.
