Previous research has theorized that pigeons employ a problem-solving strategy, involving a trial-and-error approach, which is similar to the approach used in AI models but differs from humans’ reliance on selective attention and rule use. To examine it, Brandon Turner, a psychology professor at the Ohio State University, and his colleagues conducted the new study. In the study, the pigeons were presented with various visual images, including lines of different widths and angles, and different types of rings. The pigeons had to peck (啄) a button on the right or left to indicate the category to which the image belonged. If they got it correct, they received food; if they were wrong, they received nothing. Results showed that, through trial and error, the pigeons improved their accuracy in categorization tasks, increasing their correct choices from about 55% to 95%. Researchers believed pigeons used associative learning, which is linking two phenomena with each other. For example, it is easy to understand the link between “water” and “wet”. “Associative learning is frequently assumed to be far too primitive to explain complex visual categorization like what we saw the pigeons do,” Turner said. But that’s exactly what the researchers found. The researchers’ AI model tackled the same tasks using just the two simple mechanisms that pigeons were assumed to use: associative learning and error correction. And, like the pigeons, the AI model learned to make the right predictions to significantly increase the number of correct answers. For humans, the challenge when given tasks like those given to pigeons is that they would try to come up with rules that could make the task easier. But in this case, there were no rules, which upsets humans. What’s interesting, though, is that pigeons use this method of learning that is very similar to AI designed by humans, Turner said. “We celebrate how smart we are that we designed artificial intelligence: at the same time, we regard pigeons as not clever animals,” he said. 8. What is the purpose of the new study? A. To test a theory. B. To evaluate a model. C. To apply a strategy. D. To involve an approach. 9. What were the pigeons expected to do in the experiment? A. Draw circles. B. Correct errors. C. Copy gestures. D. Identify images. 10. What do pigeons and AI have in common according to the study? A. They are of equal intelligence. B. They create rules to make tasks easier. C. They respond rapidly to orders from humans. D. They employ simple ways to get things done. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Pigeons’ trial-and-error method is revealed B. Pigeons outperform humans in tough tasks C. “Not smart” pigeons may be as smart as AI D. AI models after pigeons’ learning approach 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第一段中“Previous research has theorized that pigeons employ a problem-solving strategy, involving a trial-and-error approach, which is similar to the approach used in AI models but differs from humans’ reliance on selective attention and rule use. To examine it, Brandon Turner, a psychology professor at the Ohio State University, and his colleagues conducted the new study.(先前的研究提出理论认为鸽子采用一种问题解决策略,包括试错法,这与人工智能模型中使用的方法相似,但与人类依赖选择性注意力和使用规则不同。为了检验这一点,俄亥俄州立大学心理学教授布兰登·特纳和他的同事进行了这项新研究)”可推知,新研究的目的是检验一个理论。故选A。 根据第二段中“In the study, the pigeons were presented with various visual images, including lines of different widths and angles, and different types of rings. The pigeons had to peck (啄) a button on the right or left to indicate the category to which the image belonged.(在这项研究中,向鸽子展示了各种视觉图像,包括不同宽度和角度的线条以及不同类型的圆环。鸽子必须啄一下左边或右边的按钮,以表明图像所属的类别)”可知,鸽子在实验中需要识别图像。故选D。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中““What’s interesting, though, is that pigeons use this method of learning that is very similar to AI designed by humans,” Turner said.(特纳说:“然而,有趣的是,鸽子使用的这种学习方法与人类设计的人工智能非常相似。”)”以及倒数第二段中“The researchers’ AI model tackled the same tasks using just the two simple mechanisms that pigeons were assumed to use: associative learning and error correction.(研究人员的人工智能模型仅使用鸽子被认为使用的两种简单机制来解决同样的任务:联想学习和纠错)”可知,根据这项研究,鸽子和人工智能的共同点是它们都使用简单的方法来完成任务。 C选项““Not smart’ pigeons may be as smart as AI(“不聪明”的鸽子可能和人工智能一样聪明)”符合文章主旨,适合用作标题。故选C。 D You’ve probably heard someone lament (惋惜) the state of “kids today” that current generations aren’t as: smart as the ones that came before them. However, psychologists who study intelligence have found that there isn’t much support for this idea; instead, the opposite may actually be true. The Flynn effect, first described in the 1980s by researcher James Flynn, refers to the finding that scores on IQ tests have increased in the past century. Researchers studying this effect have found wide support for this phenomenon. One research paper, published by psychologist Lisa Trahan and her colleagues, combined the results of other published studies (which included a total of over 14,000 participants) and found that IQ scores have indeed increased since the 1950s, although researchers have documented some exceptions. Researchers have put forward several theories to explain the Flynn effect. One explanation has to do with improvements in health and nutrition. For example, the past century has seen a decrease in smoking, discontinuation of the use of harmful lead paint, improvements in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, and improvements in nutrition. As Scott Barry Kaufman writes for Psychology Today. “The Flynn effect serves as a reminder that when we give people more opportunities to prosper, more people do prosper. ” Another explanation for the Flynn effect has to do with societal changes that have occurred in the past century as a result of the Industrial Revolution. According to Flynn, the world today is “a world where we’ve had to develop new mental habits.” Flynn has found that IQ scores have increased the most rapidly on questions that ask us to find similarities between different things and more abstract types of problem- solving- both of which are things that we need to do more of in the modern world. The Flynn effect tells us that the human mind is much more adaptable than we might have thought. It seems that some of our thinking patterns aren’t necessarily innate, but rather things that we learn from our environment. When exposed to modern industrial society, we think about the world in different ways that our ancestors did. In other words, instead of being a measure of natural, unlearned intelligence, IQ may be something that can be shaped by the education we receive and the society we live in. 12. How did Trahan and her colleagues’ research support the Flynn effect? A. By explaining the cause and effect. B. By surveying over 14, 000 participants. C. By making documents of the exceptions. D. By relating to the results of other studies. 13. Which of the following reasons for increasing IQ scores is WRONG? A. Many of the public health issues are being addressed. B. We do more abstract types of problem- solving nowadays. C. People attach more importance to intellectual development. D. The Industrial Revolution changed people’s habits of mind. 14. What’s the possible meaning of the underlined word “innate” in paragraph 5? A. Hard to explain. B. Exactly the same. C. Naturally born. D. Likely to change. 15. What’s the main idea of this passage? A. Scores on IQ tests have improved over time. B. Modem society gives people more opportunities. C. Studying the Flynn effect is helpful for education. D. People have wrong opinions about current generations. 【答案】12. D 13. C 14. C 15. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要通过介绍弗林效应证明智商测试分数在过去一个世纪有所提高。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“One research paper, published by psychologist Lisa Trahan and her colleagues, combined the results of other published studies (which included a total of over 14, 000 participants) and found that IQ scores have indeed increased since the 1950s, although researchers have documented some exceptions. (心理学家Lisa Trahan和她的同事发表的一篇研究论文结合了其他已发表研究的结果(共包括14000多名参与者),发现自20世纪50年代以来,智商得分确实有所提高,尽管研究人员记录了一些例外情况)”可知,Lisa Trahan和她的同事通过与其他研究的结果相联系,以此支持弗林效应。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Researchers have put forward several theories to explain the Flynn effect. One explanation has to do with improvements in health and nutrition. For example, the past century has seen a decrease in smoking, discontinuation of the use of harmful lead paint, improvements in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, and improvements in nutrition. (研究人员提出了几种理论来解释弗林效应。一种解释与健康和营养的改善有关。例如,在过去的一个世纪里,吸烟人数减少,有害含铅油漆的使用停止,传染病的预防和治疗得到改善,营养得到改善。)”、第四段“Another explanation for the Flynn effect has to do with societal changes that have occurred in the past century as a result of the Industrial Revolution. According to Flynn, the world today is “a world where we’ve had to develop new mental habits.” (弗林效应的另一种解释与上个世纪工业革命带来的社会变革有关。根据弗林的说法,当今世界是“一个我们不得不培养新思维习惯的世界”。根据弗林的说法,当今世界是“一个我们不得不培养新思维习惯的世界”)”以及第五段“When exposed to modern industrial society, we think about the world in different ways that our ancestors did. In other words, instead of being a measure of natural, unlearned intelligence, IQ may be something that can be shaped by the education we receive and the society we live in. (当我们接触到现代工业社会时,我们以与祖先不同的方式思考世界。换句话说,智商可能不是衡量自然、未经学习的智力的指标,而是我们所接受的教育和所生活的社会所塑造的。)”可知,文章提及的可能解释智商分数的因素,包括许多公共卫生问题正在得到解决、如今我们采用更为抽象的问题解决方式、以及工业革命改变了人们的思维习惯,但文章并未提及人们更加重视智力发展。故选C。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第五段“The Flynn effect tells us that the human mind is much more adaptable than we might have thought. It seems that some of our thinking patterns aren’t necessarily innate, but rather things that we learn from our environment. (弗林效应告诉我们,人类的思想比我们想象的更具适应性。似乎我们的一些思维模式不一定是innate,而是我们从环境中学到的东西。)”可知,我们的一些思维模式是我们从环境中学到的东西,由此可知,这不一定是天生的,推测划线单词表示“天生的”,与Naturally born意义相近。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第二段“The Flynn effect, first described in the 1980s by researcher James Flynn, refers to the finding that scores on IQ tests have increased in the past century. Researchers studying this effect have found wide support for this phenomenon. (弗林效应最早由研究人员詹姆斯·弗林在20世纪80年代描述,指的是智商测试得分在过去一个世纪有所提高的发现。研究这一效应的研究人员发现,这一现象得到了广泛支持。)”以及文章提及的可能解释智商测试分数提升现象的因素可知,文章通过介绍弗林效应证明智商测试分数在过去一个世纪有所提高,即随着时间的推移,智商测试的分数有所提高。故选A。 第二节 (共5 小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Risks of Overtraining Getting in shape and training for an event such as a marathon requires long-lasting and intense (高强度的) physical commitment. ____16____ But the truth is, sometimes the very acts we do to get healthy can actually push us past our physical limits. Specifically, overtraining is a set of signs that occur when your body is not able to recover enough before going into your next workout. ____17____ People tend to ignore them. Over time, the cycle of starting the next training workout before allowing recovery causes breakdown of the very parts of the body that you work so hard to build up. The structures and systems of your body adapt to the demands you have placed on them before the rest time. If your workout slightly goes beyond your present ability, it will adapt toward what you did in a positive way. ____18____ Two main factors are necessary in recovery: nutrition (营养) and rest. Good nutrients, including water and protein (蛋白质) intake, is extremely important, especially within 40 minutes of your workout. ____19____Your body uses the nutrients you have given it during the rest time, especially sleep, to strengthen. One of the best ways to prevent overtraining is to focus on your morning resting heart rate. ____20____ Generally, you will detect an increase in your heart rate before the other signs show up. Tracking it in a log can be a great way to monitor your recovery. A. It’s easy to measure and track. B. Allowing time for recovery is also necessary. C. The problem is that they show up very gradually. D. Below are the signs and indications of overtraining. E. If far beyond, it’ll take longer to adapt and may cause injury. F. Listening to your body will ensure you reach your fitness goals. G. We generally assume regular intense exercise is good for our health. 【答案】16. G 17. C 18. E 19. B 20. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了当身体缺乏适当的恢复时,过度训练就会发生,导致逐渐出现的、经常被忽视的损害健康的迹象。它强调营养和休息有利于恢复,并建议监测早晨心率以防止过度训练。 【16题详解】 前一句“Getting in shape and training for an event such as a marathon requires long-lasting and intense (高强度的) physical commitment.(为马拉松这样的赛事保持良好的体型和训练需要长期和高强度的体力投入。)”提到“为了马拉松等赛事需要长期且高强度的身体投入”。后一句“But the truth is, sometimes the very acts we do to get healthy can actually push us past our physical limits.(但事实是,有时我们为了健康所做的行为实际上会让我们超越身体的极限。)”用But转折,指出“有时我们的训练实际上会让我们超越身体极限”。G选项“We generally assume regular intense exercise is good for our health.(我们通常认为有规律的高强度运动对健康有益。)”既提到了上文的训练,也引出了下文的训练量,起到了很好的承上启下作用。故选G项。 【17题详解】 前一句“Specifically, overtraining is a set of signs that occur when your body is not able to recover enough before going into your next workout.(具体来说,过度训练是当你的身体无法在下一次锻炼前恢复时出现的一系列迹象。)”定义了过度训练。后一句“People tend to ignore them.(人们往往会忽略它们。)”提到“人们倾向于忽视身体无法恢复的迹象”。C选项“The problem is that they show up very gradually.(问题在于这些迹象出现得非常缓慢。)”解释了为什么人们会忽视它们(因为不是突然出现的),符合逻辑。故选C项。 【18题详解】 前一句“If your workout slightly goes beyond your present ability, it will adapt toward what you did in a positive way.( 如果你的锻炼稍微超出了你目前的能力,它会以一种积极的方式适应你所做的。)”提到“身体对于训练量的有效适应”。E选项“If far beyond, it’ll take longer to adapt and may cause injury.(如果远远超出(能力范围),适应将需要更长时间,且可能导致受伤。)”与前一句形成对比(slightly goes beyond vs. far beyond),完整地阐述了身体适应的两种不同结果。故选E项。 【19题详解】 本段首句“Two main factors are necessary in recovery: nutrition (营养) and rest.(两个主要因素对恢复是必要的:营养和休息。)”提到恢复需要两个主要因素:营养和休息。空格前一句“Good nutrients, including water and protein (蛋白质) intake, is extremely important, especially within 40 minutes of your workout.( 良好的营养,包括水和蛋白质的摄入,是非常重要的,尤其是在你锻炼的40分钟内。)”详细讲了“营养”的重要性。B选项“Allowing time for recovery is also necessary.(留出时间休息也是必要的。)”自然地引出了第二个因素,与前文结构保持一致。故选B项。 【20题详解】 前一句“One of the best ways to prevent overtraining is to focus on your morning resting heart rate.(防止过度训练的最好方法之一是关注你的晨间静息心率。)”提到“预防过度训练好方法是关注心率”。后一句“Generally, you will detect an increase in your heart rate before the other signs show up. (一般来说,在其他迹象出现之前,你会发现心率的增加。)”提到“心率增加这个典型现象”。A选项“It’s easy to measure and track.(它很容易测量和追踪。)”解释了为什么关注心率是一个好方法(因为操作简单),且与后文提到的“追踪(Tracking)”相呼应。故选A项。 第三部分 语言运用 (共二节,满分25分) 第一节 完形填空 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 The 13-year-old girl Anna Grace is a volleyball manager, a basketball manager, and a theater volunteer, but perhaps her greatest ___21___ is the fact that she has beaten cancer twice. My husband Eric was on business trip, so after picking up my 11-year-old son Nathan from school, I’d popped into the grocery store to buy a roast chicken for dinner. I figured that would buy me an extra hour to work on my project, since I wouldn’t have to cook that night. Now, it was 6:00 p.m., and I was typing away, making good progress. My kids were downstairs watching TV. My eleven-year-old son, Nathan, came into the room and said, “Mom, I’m getting hungry. Can you warm up the chicken now?” “In a little bit,” I answered without looking up from the computer. Ten minutes later, my older son Jordan came in to tell me he was hungry too. Fifteen minutes after that, my eighteen-year-old daughter Julia made the same request. I exploded: “Every one of you is old enough to put a roast chicken in the microwave. I have to finish the project before 3:00 tomorrow. I would think you would realize that I’m busy and just take some responsibility.” Twenty minutes later, a paper plate filled with chicken appeared on the desk next to my computer. I smiled sheepishly at the kids. “Sorry I yelled at you guys. I’m just so tired of being ATF around here.” “ATF?” “All Things Food. It’s my responsibility to plan the meals, shop for the food, cook the food, and then clean up the dishes afterward. If it’s food-related, it automatically falls to me.” Julia looked at her brothers, “In the following day, the three of us are ATF. Let’s leave Mom alone and go make a plan.” The next morning, Julia came home, carrying multiple bags of food with her brothers. An hour later, Nathan literally tiptoed into the room to deliver my breakfast to me and smiled, “I hope your work is going well,” he whispered and then tiptoed back downstairs. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After several productive hours of work, I could smell something cooking. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We were about to have lunch when my husband came back. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: After several productive hours of work, I could smell something cooking. The delicious scent of garlic and tomatoes drifted up to my room, making my stomach rumble. Curious, I saved my project and quietly went downstairs to investigate. I found my three children working together in the kitchen, a scene I had rarely witnessed. Jordan was carefully stirring a large pot of spaghetti sauce while Nathan set the table with surprising focus. Julia, their confident leader, smiled at me and announced, “Lunch will be ready in five minutes, Mom.” We were about to have lunch when my husband came back. Eric walked in with a suitcase, his eyes lighting up at the scene. “Wow, what a feast!” he laughed, putting down his bag. With visible pride on their faces, the kids rushed to tell him about their “ATF plan,” and I explained how they’d taken over all food tasks. Over lunch, we chatted and laughed. I felt the stress from my project melt away, replaced by overwhelming love for my thoughtful family. As I bit into the tasty soup, I realized that family isn’t just about taking care of others, but letting them take care of you too. 词汇激活 行为类 ①咕咕叫:rumble/growl ②亲眼看见:witness/behold ③放下:put down/set aside 情绪类 ①充满好奇的:curious/inquisitive ②体贴的:thoughtful/considerate 【点睛】【高分句型1】The delicious scent of garlic and tomatoes drifted up to my room, making my stomach rumble.(运用了现在分词短语作结果状语) 【高分句型 1. One of his notable inventions was the “CO2ube”, a device that could be attached to vehicle tailpipes to reduce carbon emissions, and it’s available to many people at low prices. He also created a smartwatch that changed body heat into energy, which can be used to power up the watch as well as mobile phones. Young Jaggi, now a third-grade college student studying engineering and economics, has become a famous eco-innovator and his company is developing promisingly. However, Jaggi’s vision to save the environment goes beyond creating products. He plans to launch an online platform through Ecoviate, which will encourage young students interested in science and technology to get actively involved in innovation and invention. Students can submit a science project online, and talk about the help that they need to make the project a reality. 4. What can we learn about Jaggi? A. He was curious by nature. B. C A new study reveals that pigeons (鸽子) can tackle some problems just like artificial intelligence, enabling them to solve difficult tasks that might challenge humans. AI models after pigeons’ learning approach D You’ve probably heard someone lament (惋惜) the state of “kids today” that current generations aren’t as: smart as the ones that came before them. D. C. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
